In 2017, UN sanctions on Pyongyang pulled down the regime's trade by 15 percent compared to the year before... and its exports by 37-point-2 percent.
According to a report by KOTRA... on trends in North Korean trade, the hermit kingdom has a trade deficit exceeding 2 billion dollars, which is more than double last year's amount of 8-hundred-90 million.
The Seoul-based agency explained the losses were due to the UN ban on North Korea's main exports such as coal, steal, and fish.
The UN Security Council imposed the sanctions last year after the North launched missiles and carried out its 6th nuclear test.
