Kilauea Lava Flow Rolls Into Sea at Kapoho Bay

Clouds of steam rose over Kapoho Bay on Hawaii’s Big Island after a stream of lava from the Kilauea volcano made contact with the sea on Monday, June 4.The USGS shared aerial footage showing the lava from Fissure 8 forming a delta in Kapoho Bay. The agency earlier tweeted that locals had reported seeing lava on the shore of Kapoho Bay on Sunday evening.Hawaii Civil Defense warned residents to avoid contact with the “laze” steam, which can contain hydrochloric acid and volcanic glass particles.
