Geologists Warn Hawaii's Kilauea Volcano Eruption Could Last 'Years'

Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano eruption could last for “years”, geologists with the US Geological Survey Hawaiian Volcano Observatory warned, in a new study released July 15.The geologists specifically examined fissure 8, seen in this July 23 footage, calling it "the dominant lava producer" in the eruption, which began May 3. They concluded the “eruption may continue for months to years.”The study warned the main hazard is the possibility that all or some of the lava may divert from its current course, plotting a new path of lava, that may potentially breach areas north of fissure 8, where residents have not been evacuated.
