Torrential Rain Swamps Coquimbo Streets

A storm system in the Pacific brought unseasonably heavy rain to Coquimbo, Chile, on Thursday, May 11.AccuWeather reported that the storm was expected to deliver torrential rain to Chile’s central coastal region and trigger heavy snowfall further inland through the weekend.The storm has already generated significant rainfall with Chile’s Cooperativa reporting that the Coquimbo area had received continuous rain since Wednesday evening, and the National Emergency Office of Chile declared the region to be under a rainfall Yellow Alert, along with Atacama, Valparaiso, Metropolitana and O’Higgins. The storm also knocked out power to 13,000 people.This footage shows several of Coquimbo’s flooded streets.
