Ogio Gambit 17 Backpack Review

The first thing that caught my attention about the Ogio Gambit 17 backpack was the number of zippers. There were a lot of them, and those were only the ones on the outside. But zippers mean compartments, and this backpack is loaded with them. There are four levels of main compartments. The biggest compartment is intended for laptops. My 17" (diagonal measurement) laptop fit easily in this compartment, and it appears to be large enough to accommodate laptops up to 20"h x 12"w x 1"d as claimed by the manufacturer. The second main compartment is big enough to hold most netbooks or large tablets. The third main compartment is labeled for tablets, and it should hold any size tablet up to 10". The last (outermost) compartment is made for holding accessories, and it includes several open mesh and zippered pockets. And all this doesn't include the four zippered compartments on the backpack's sides, or the semi-rigid compartment at the top. There's even a small zippered compartment on the left shoulder strap. There's enough padding between the compartments to help prevent damage to the contents.

The nicely padded shoulder straps are adjustable in length, and there's a chest strap, a feature that in my opinion is essential for a backpack of this size. The backpack's zippers are large enough to be used with gloves on, and all zippers have either fabric pull tabs or rubber grips. The backpack's exterior covering is a polyester material that looks to be tough enough to resist cutting or scraping. On top of the backpack are both a fabric hanging loop as well as a padded carrying strap.

Even with the considerable carrying capacity of the Gambit 17, the backpack is compact enough to fit in the overhead bins of almost all commercial aircraft in service today. I'm not sure if it will fit under a seat, though.

For its large carrying capacity, the capability to organize the contents, and its versatility, I have no reservations about recommending the Ogio Gambit 17 as one of the best backpacks of its type that I've seen.
