00:00Newcastle United have had what can only be described as a deeply frustrating transfer window so far.
00:08They've only managed to secure two new signings in Anthony Alanga and Aaron Ramsdale from Southampton on loan.
00:17However, one positive that has come from this summer has been the return of Lewis Hall to training and pre-season friendly action.
00:26Hall was injured in the run-up to last season's Carabao Cup and missed the final at Wembley.
00:33But his recovery has been smooth since that point and now he is on the verge of reclaiming his spot at left-back following a return to full fitness.
00:45Lewis Hall's first season at Newcastle was frustrating for him on a personal level given that he did not make many appearances until the end of the season.
00:54But last year, before his injury, was something of a breakout campaign for the former Chelsea youngster.
01:02Now, Hall, fully fit again, is hoping to make his mark on Newcastle's team and help them progress in the Premier League, which gets underway very soon.
01:12Last season, in the midst of Hall's breakout year, Tynan Weir TV spoke to the young player about breaking into Newcastle's first team
01:22and the frustrations he'd had the year before when not selected to play many minutes under Eddie Howe.
01:28This is what he had to say following an England under-21s match at Kenilworth Road in Luton, in which he picked up the Man of the Match award,
01:39signifying his progress as a defender both defensively and offensively.
01:44So, Lewis, I mean, firstly, just on your performance tonight, second half, two assists, it was a pretty good night for you, wasn't it?
01:53Yeah, of course. I think most importantly is about the team and so we got the win.
01:58I felt like we were in control for all the game.
02:01So, yeah, obviously, it wasn't for the win and, yeah, to get an award as well, it talks it off.
02:06How's the last sort of six months been for you, of course?
02:09When you came to Newcastle originally, you weren't in the team and you'd made the team by the end of the season.
02:14This season, you've started a couple of games as well, you've come off the bench as well and then you're playing well for the under-21s.
02:19It's quite a meteoric rise, isn't it?
02:21Yeah, it's just a thing that sums up football, really.
02:26Yeah, because you get, obviously, the highs and lows.
02:29Last season, there was moments where, obviously, I was at a low and, yeah, I wasn't feeling myself, really.
02:35But I somehow managed to pick it up at the end of the season.
02:40So, obviously, I know the quality that I have and, yeah, I managed to pick that up.
02:44And this season, I've wanted to start strong.
02:48And some games I think I've done that and other games I think I could do better in.
02:52But I think that's football, really.
02:54You've got ups and downs along the way.
02:56And, yeah, I think today I was really happy about our play.
02:59So, hopefully, I can kick on for the rest of this season.
03:01We can clearly see you're very much an attacking full-back when you play on the left.
03:04I mean, obviously, two assists to nice.
03:06And when you're in Newcastle, as well, you like to get up and down the wing.
03:09So, is that really the main part of your game that you want to be very much a length-to-length full-back?
03:15Yeah, definitely.
03:16I want to be able to do both sides of the game, really.
03:19I've always had the attacking quality, in my opinion, which I can still improve on.
03:24But I think defensively is where I'm trying to improve.
03:27And I feel like I have done that massively.
03:30But, yeah, I think there's still a lot more improvement there is to be done, really, defensively and offensively as well.
03:35So, I keep working hard on the training pitch.
03:38The manager's really good with me with all of his assistants as well at Newcastle.
03:42I've worked really hard to help improve.
03:44Well, not just me, but the whole team, really.
03:46So, yeah, I keep working hard and hopefully I can get myself back into the team.
03:50Yeah, and just finally, just on Eddie Howe there, what's it like under him?
03:53Of course, I know you've got a great set-up here at the FA, but what's he like as a coach at Newcastle?
03:59I think he's very unique in terms of his ideas and the way he coaches is a lot different to something I've ever had before.
04:07And, yeah, he works so hard for not just the team in general, but for individuals as well.
04:14So, as any manager does, they have a lot of work to do before a game and after a game.
04:20But it'll still take time to help individuals on the pitch who may not even be playing,
04:25to help them improve their game whilst they're trying to get into the team.
04:29So, I think that's a big, big quality that he has.
04:33And I think definitely it makes my job sometimes a lot easier with the way we prepare for games as well.
04:39So, yeah, he's nothing but really good words to say about him.
