00:00Let's start off with our sports betting story of the day. Could be a landmark decision made by the state of Maryland, as it looks like the prediction market could take a huge hit in their state.
00:09Calshee has lost its bid for a temporary restraining order to remain operational in the state of Maryland, with the court ruling that they're unlikely to succeed in arguing federal laws like the Commodity Exchange and Act Override state sports betting laws.
00:22Calshee is arguing that removing Maryland alone will be impractical due to federal requirements, but this is a state-by-state decision, and there will be another ruling coming up.
00:31So we'll see if the prediction market companies like Calshee are able to operate, because if they can't in Maryland, this would set the stage for other states to at least tax them or eliminate them.
00:41Meanwhile, DraftKings has come up with a very intriguing idea this coming season, if you're betting on player props.
00:45In fact, they're launching a new early exit program they announced over the weekend, which aims at customer experience.
00:52What it really means is that if you bet on a player and he gets hurt during the game, they're offering cash credits due to injury.
00:59How about that? Early exit program refunds single bets for the original stake and recalculates parlay bets based on winning legs.
01:07Never seen this before, but it could be something that a lot of people have a factor in coming this year.
01:11Also, a new NFLPA interim director was named over the weekend, in case you missed it.
01:16David White, who was a finalist in 2023 for the role, officially has been named to the role.
01:21According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissaro, a voting rep from all 32 teams participated to elect White on Sunday night.
01:28Now over to Major League Baseball, where the hottest team in baseball is in my neighborhood.
01:33How about that? The Miami Marlins sweep the New York Yankees over the weekend.
01:38Three straight games, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. 7-3 was the final on Sunday.
01:43It is the first time the Marlins have ever swept the Yankees in a three-game series.
01:47Meanwhile, what is going on with the Bronx Bombers not hitting, not pitching, not fielding, not running, not doing much of anything?
01:55Here's Aaron Boone, who still remains confident. They'll turn it around.
01:59A lot of swept by the Marlins. You said before the game we have to start doing things better.
02:02Just what can you do to snap this team out of it at this point?
02:05Yeah, I mean, we're going into another tough opponent that's playing well.
02:11We've got to do it. We've got to find a way.
02:14You know, again, we swing the bats really, really good.
02:19Obviously, the first night, again, I thought today was better in the at-bat quality, getting shut down by a good pitcher.
02:25But, you know, we've got to put it together more than anything.
02:28And, you know, it's getting to be real gut-check time.
02:34You know, it's getting late, and it's certainly not too late for us.
02:40And I am confident that we're going to get it together.
02:43But that's all it is right now is, you know, it's empty until we start doing it.
02:47What keeps you confident?
02:49Why do you believe that they're capable of turning it around?
02:51I think we've got a really good team out there, and that gives me confidence.
02:59But it's on me.
03:01It's on us.
03:01It's on all of us to pull it out and pull it out together.
03:06But I think we have the makings of a very good club.
03:10But obviously, we haven't shown it consistently enough.
03:14Yeah, that remains to be seen for the rest of the season.
03:16Meanwhile, the Red Sox moved ahead of the Yankees.
03:18They sweep the Astros with a 6-1 win Sunday at Fenway.
03:21This was the morning game yesterday.
03:23Lucas Giolino picking up the win, although not much of a guy who likes to wake up early, apparently.
03:30Is it true you're not a morning person?
03:31Yes.
03:33It's not very fun.
03:35Ever since I was a kid, I would stay up super late, like, reading.
03:38And then it turned into staying up super late playing video games.
03:41And I've just done that ever since.
03:43My excuse is, I like to say that I prime myself for 7 p.m. being my locked-in hours.
03:53But obviously, you have to make an adjustment for a day like today.
03:56So you have to be pretty consistent.
03:58But how long did it take to make that adjustment today?
04:01It's like the whole week leading up.
04:03Try and get to bed earlier.
04:05I'd say it's more important waking up earlier.
04:07Getting yourself up.
04:08Getting outside.
04:09Moving around.
04:09And, yeah, then it kind of puts me in a better position to where when I woke up this morning, I wasn't, you know, horribly groggy.
04:18What time did you get to sleep last?
04:20Where?
04:21Midnight.
04:23It's very early for me.
04:24And what time did you get up then?
04:27What time did I get up?
04:28Eight.
04:29Yeah.
04:30Yeah, it's good.
04:31What time do you normally get to sleep?
04:34What do you rush into here?
04:35What are we doing here?
04:37What was the question?
04:42I guess Lucas Giolino is just like us these days.
04:45We all have to get up early.
04:46Royals score seven runs in the top of the 10th.
04:48Crazy inning.
04:49They beat the Blue Jays 7-4.
04:51Christopher Sanchez, meanwhile, has been one of the best pitchers in baseball.
04:54Phillies are going to be tough down the stretch.
04:56Eight shutout innings.
04:57Jawan Duran gets another save.
04:59And the Phillies beat the Tigers 2-0.
05:02All right.
05:02The San Francisco Giants decided to punt on their season last week, but they did take
05:07two out of three from the Mets this weekend.
05:10Rafael Devers had a monster game on Sunday.
05:12Three for four, a home run, and four runs driven in.
05:15And the Mets are seemingly walking through the end of this season.
05:18Got to pick it up, according to Carlos Mendoza.
05:20Carlos, what wasn't working for Montas today?
05:23Yeah, he just couldn't get swing and misses.
05:27Pitch selection, location.
05:28I mean, that pitch to Devers was right down the middle.
05:30You know, a fourth scene right there on the nitro zone.
05:34You know, and when you do that to good hitters, they're going to make you pay.
05:38And it seems like, you know, that first inning, stuff-wise, the sinker was good.
05:43I thought he got some swing and misses with the split.
05:45But then on that third inning, you know, they put the ball in play.
05:48They hit some balls hard.
05:49And then Devers got them, you know, with a big one there.
05:52But overall, just not getting swing and misses, location.
05:56And he got hit.
06:00How good was Wizen Hunt today?
06:04Pretty good, you know, good arm, good fastball.
06:07And the changeup was advertised, you know.
06:09Going into that game, we knew that changeup was his best pitch.
06:12And we saw it there.
06:13I mean, we saw flashes there that, you know, he's got really good potential.
06:18And, you know, he did a hell of a job for them.
06:20The Dodgers go on the road and get a great performance from Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
06:26Five and two-thirds scoreless innings to get the Dodgers a win over the Rays, three to nothing.
06:31Dave Roberts happy with the pitching performance, certainly, and also getting the win on the road.
06:36Okay.
06:36You talked a lot about the strikeouts as of late.
06:38Just to see the guys limit those, take different really quality at-bats.
06:42How would you describe what you were seeing from the offense and how they were able to manufacture different runs?
06:46It was, you know, stark as far as kind of the at-bat quality, putting the ball in play, winning pitches, and giving ourselves a chance at the bat.
06:55And it was obviously Freddie had a great series.
06:59And I thought Shohei took some really good at-bats today and the base running.
07:03And we finally built some innings and situational hitting was good.
07:07And we got some key hits.
07:09And so, you know, the bullpen, I felt, did a really nice job to get Alex to do an up-down, which was huge.
07:16And, you know, Blake's, you know, still trying to find his way.
07:18So it's only his third outing, something like that.
07:20So he'll be fine.
07:22But, you know, right now I just felt that, you know, we've got to, you know, get him out of there at that point.
07:27But I got all the confidence in Blake.
07:31Padres continue to surge.
07:32They beat the Cardinals 7-3.
07:34Now in the National Football League, the story in Dallas, well, actually in Oxnard, but the story with the Cowboys just keeps on getting deeper here.
07:43Micah Parsons over the weekend requested a trade.
07:45We'll hear from Jerry Jones coming up in just a little bit.
07:48But Parsons seemingly doesn't want to play in Dallas anymore.
07:50And the owner says he doesn't want to trade him.
07:52That's the short story.
07:53James Cook has sat out practice for the first time this offseason seeking a new deal with the media.
07:59He's just telling them it's all business.
08:01Who knows if Buffalo's going to get this done?
08:02Meanwhile, the Dolphins signed defensive tackle Zach Seiler, three years, $67 million, one of the best defensive tack footballs done a great job for Miami.
