00:01You received your instructions in the locker room.
00:03I want a good, clean fight.
00:04Obey my commands at all times.
00:05Defend yourselves at all times.
00:06Do what you can't train to do.
00:08Good, clean boxing.
00:08Got it?
00:09Touch gloves.
00:10To your corners.
00:14Tristan Kalkruth wasn't great in his last performance,
00:17as Chris Mannix mentioned.
00:18He gave himself a C-plus grade for that performance.
00:22Believes he's refreshed, re-energized,
00:24and promises to deliver an A here tonight.
00:26And it'll be much easier now that he has a late replacement
00:30in Devontae Williams, who's fighting on a hope and a prayer.
00:34Let's see what he can do here as we come to you live from Chicago, Illinois.
00:38Not necessarily easier.
00:40I mean, you still have to learn from a new trainer.
00:43He was preparing to fight a southpaw.
00:45Williams is an orthodox fighter.
00:47Yes, he's much smaller.
00:48He's coming off a KO loss.
00:50He's been inactive.
00:51All that bashed up with Williams.
00:52But whenever you have someone in front of you
00:54and a different look that you weren't preparing for,
00:56you might have some rounds to get out first.
01:01Well, for Williams, he lost to Kenton Cook in 2017,
01:05took four and a half years off,
01:06then beat Mook Ethan Darvius,
01:08then took three and a half years off
01:10before losing last month to Dean Nicholson.
01:13Well, not only that, but he started his career at 149 pounds.
01:17He's much smaller, and the inactivity is another thing.
01:21Well, if you're Tristan Kalkruth,
01:23are you trying to get this guy out early,
01:24or are you just saying,
01:25look, it's eventually going to happen,
01:26let's just be patient?
01:27I think early.
01:28You get him out of there.
01:29I mean, he's been active.
01:29He's much smaller.
01:31You're the one with the big power behind that right hand.
01:33You have the height advantage of reach, the size.
01:36Don't try to get him confident.
01:38So go out there and try to land that big right hand
01:40as early as possible.
01:41William shakes that one off, nicknamed the Boogeyman.
01:47As for Kalkruth, signed with Golden Boy way back in June of 2019,
01:51and at the time, he was the second youngest ever to sign with the company.
01:55Yeah, they've been doing a great job with him as well,
01:56keeping him busy, keeping him active.
01:59Even after that loss, that hiccup, you know, he's back.
02:01You know, confidence hasn't swayed, and here he is again.
02:04Well, Chris, that loss does have an asterisk beside it,
02:08as Kalkruth had to go through a lot of pain and an injury
02:10just to make it to the end of that fight.
02:12Yeah, he did have to battle through a significant shoulder injury
02:15that later required surgery.
02:17He's bounced back well, winning seven fights in a row
02:19and kind of reestablished himself.
02:21But he's had a lot of uneven performances,
02:24like that fight against Valera.
02:25You look at the scorecards, near shutout, dominant,
02:28but it wasn't the best, I thought, of Tristan Kalkruth.
02:31He can be hit or miss in some of these fights.
02:34Right now, I like the confidence, the look in the eyes of Williams.
02:37He got caught with a shot, stared at Kalkruth,
02:40you know, nodding his head, but I like the confidence.
02:42Kalkruth left the hand, followed by a right from Williams,
02:45who looks a little bit like former heavyweight Chris Bird in the face.
02:49I agree, I was going to say that earlier.
02:52Shout out to Chris Bird.
02:54Watch the hold of him, guys.
02:55Stop, stop, take a step back.
03:00Box.
03:00But Williams having a better opening round
03:02than I think almost anybody thought he would.
03:04Yeah, and he's much smaller.
03:06You can see it right there, but I like the way he's handling himself.
03:09Anytime that Kalkruth tries to get something going,
03:12not only does he not his head,
03:13but he comes back with a nice punch to keep Kalkruth off.
03:18With a confident smaller fighter like this,
03:20you've got to bust him up with length.
03:21You know, don't get inside and give him an opportunity
03:24for a smaller fighter to throw shots like that.
03:28Pop him on the outside, keep him outside,
03:31and keep him at the end of that right hand.
03:32electric.
03:45I bet they bought the cow with crypto.
03:49You've probably got a podcast about Kale.
03:52The Triogas.
03:56Jeffrey reckons they wear sandals.
03:59They're coming now, they're coming now.
04:01There he is.
04:03Never seem nice.
04:06They seem all right.
04:07Don't force nothing in the corner of Tristan.
04:20Look, these are good shots by Williams.
04:22Not intimidated in that first round.
04:25I like the look in his face.
04:26And look, that was a good catching counter by Kalkruth
04:28that came up short.
04:29But Williams, he's a savvy fighter.
04:31You can see that he's confident.
04:32May not be prepared for this moment,
04:34but I like the look in his face.
04:36Yeah, he's showing that he's here to win,
04:37not just to stay away and make it to the end.
04:41It's scheduled for ten rounds.
04:44If Kalkruth doesn't use that jab
04:46and fight patient and break down Williams,
04:50I can see this getting out of hand for Kalkruth.
04:52Kind of one of those trap fights.
04:57Almost like a trap game in football
04:58where you're looking past your opponent to the next one.
05:01This is a guy that, on paper,
05:02Kalkruth should have very little problem disposing of.
05:06No, not only that, but he wasn't preparing for Williams.
05:08He was preparing for a totally different style.
05:13I mean, I can work against you,
05:14especially when that other style was a left-hander.
05:16You trained your entire camp,
05:18say an eight-week camp,
05:20with a left-handed fighter,
05:21and now you're in there with a right-handed fighter
05:23that's on the back foot,
05:24tricky, jabbing, confident.
05:26The longer this fight goes,
05:27the more confidence that Williams is going to get,
05:31and the worse that Kalkruth may look.
05:35Williams can have confidence, Sergio,
05:37but if he didn't win the first round,
05:39he's not going to be the first minute plus of this round.
05:41Yeah, but he landed two good shots
05:43in the replay we just saw,
05:46so he's getting a little bit confident.
05:49Good left hook to start that sequence
05:51for Tristan Kalkruth.
05:53I'm capturing, I'm digging down to that body.
05:56That is 20 pounds of extra weight
05:58on Williams from his last fight.
06:00Yeah, his last fight was scheduled to be at 175,
06:03but Williams missed weight by seven pounds,
06:06so they boosted it up to a cruiserweight bout,
06:08and how about that uppercut?
06:10Williams is having fun in there.
06:12Yeah, he is.
06:13I've seen something different than you, man.
06:15I think, look, Williams is not winning.
06:18Yeah, but he might have won that first round.
06:19He landed some good shots.
06:22You know, and the longer this fight goes,
06:24the more confidence he's going to get.
06:25That's all I'm saying.
06:26You two have to stop scoring fights.
06:29Oh, boy.
06:31There might not be any scoring needed
06:32as Williams crumbles to the canvas here
06:36in round number two.
06:37Late reaction punch to the body.
06:39Williams up.
06:42Whoa, he's doing backflips with the fight's not over.
06:49What are we doing here?
06:50What is happening?
06:51Is this fight over?
06:53What is happening there?
06:55You ready?
06:57Come on.
06:58That was a strange decision by the referee.
07:05Williams appeared, did beat the count,
07:07but the referee then allowed him to walk back towards his corner,
07:11buying him another 10 seconds or so.
07:13Not only that, but Williams took his mouthpiece off.
07:16Turned his back, walked to his corner with his mouthpiece off.
07:18This fight should have been stopped.
07:19I mean, I guess you could say it's a veteran move
07:21by Williams to buy that time, but...
07:25Well, Cal Cruz has already celebrated the win.
07:28He's got to get it now.
07:29I guess he's got to get it now.
07:30It's good.
07:31Yeah.
07:31How are you going?
07:32I'm going to get it now.
07:33You'reoney!
07:34Woo!
07:34You're going to get I know you're going to get a pro.
08:37And call it a day as the crowd rains booze down on Devontae Williams.
08:42Yeah, when we're in commercial, I could hear Williams saying that he didn't want it anymore.
08:46The trainer said something about an eye.
08:48You could just see in the body language that Williams didn't want to go out there for that next round.
08:52Kyle Cooke caught his attention with that body shot.
08:54Williams showed no heart for the fight.
08:56Yeah, very bizarre ending.
09:00Chris, what did you learn talking to the referee?
09:02The referee just said succinctly he quit on the stool.
09:05So it was the decision by the fighter not to continue this fight.
09:09I agree.
09:10Well, an unsatisfying knockout win for Tristan Calkruth, who's already done his backflip once.
09:18Are we going to get two of them?
09:19I don't think he can, right?
09:20You've already spiked the football.
09:23Hey, he got the knockdown.
09:24The knockout, the knockdown.
09:25He's on to the next one.
09:26I mean, for a late replacement getting him out of here like this, Williams could have got trickier,
09:30but he just didn't have the mental fortitude to keep looking for a fight.
09:35Let's show you how this ended.
09:49You know, I think earlier Williams thought it was over.
09:52That's why he got up, walked to his corner with his mouthpiece out,
09:55and then all of a sudden the referee said, okay, you're going to fight.
09:56And then Williams was like, what do I do?
09:58I look good.
09:59I'm not hurt.
10:00Do I just try to make it to the end of the round?
10:02He made it to the end of the round, and then he officially quit.
10:05He said something about his eye, but I don't see no issues with his eyes.
10:08And I think in this situation, we could say he quit.
10:12So, yeah, he didn't want no more, and he found a way out.
10:14I lost.
10:16I ain't saying that you fight.
10:17No, I ain't done that.
10:20Well, we were praising Williams for a round and a half, and then he just kind of faded away.
10:26Yeah, you know, whenever you're a late replacement,
10:29you don't expect to go the distance.
10:31So the first two rounds, it was nervous energy.
10:34He was giving you what he had, but he was a smaller man.
10:37He was a much smaller man.
10:38And that body shot, it didn't land that cleanly, to be honest with you.
10:42And I think Williams just found, you know, came as a late replacement, cashed the check, and got out of here.
10:51Oh, that hit his elbow, his forearm.
10:55That punch didn't even land cleanly.
10:57And there's the flip.
11:06And then William C. Williams saying, no, I'm done.
11:08All right, well, that's over.
11:09And then the referee goes, wait a minute, you can still fight.
11:11So, Devontae Williams did not exactly go out on his shield tonight.
11:19And judging off that replay, he didn't even go out with a body shot.
11:22He was blocked.
11:23Just announced on DAZN, get ready for a clash of rising contenders
11:26as Abel Gonzalez steps into the ring against the tough and relentless Alphonso Flores.
11:30That's Saturday, August 23rd, live right here on DAZN.
11:42Let's go to Joe Martinez, who makes it official.
11:51Ladies and gentlemen, at one second of round number three,
11:56Williams fails to answer the bell to start the round.
11:58Referee, Joel Camposano Jr. puts a stop to the fight,
12:02declaring your winner by TKO, Sweet T, Tristan Calcruth.
12:17So, Tristan Calcruth with one of the easiest wins of his career,
12:21but he did take some punches there.
