00:00Chiefs seconds.
00:08Gentlemen, you both received my instructions in the dressing room.
00:12You know exactly what I expect.
00:14A good clean fight, obey my commands, and protect yourself at all times.
00:19Touch gloves. Good luck to both of you.
00:23This crowd is at a fever pitch.
00:27Do you want Chihuahua?
00:29Or do you want Chicago?
00:33This a WBA super lightweight title eliminator scheduled for 12 rounds.
00:40Duarte versus Sims Jr.
00:45Here we go.
00:50That jab right there is going to be key to this fight for Sims Jr.
00:55Keeping the fight in the middle of the ring, staying off the ropes,
00:57and not letting.
00:59Duarte turned into the bust saw that he is.
01:01And Kenneth Sims Jr. has a history of being a fast star.
01:05I think it's going to be important for him to bank some of these early rounds.
01:08He has to expect to get a mid to late round surge roster Duarte once he gets some momentum going.
01:13Winning these early rounds is going to be critical, I think, for Ken Sims.
01:17Look at the size of Duarte's back.
01:19It looks like he has bricks under his skin.
01:22He's always been a muscular fighter, but normally muscles don't translate to power.
01:30But when it comes to Oscar Duarte, that's definitely the case.
01:33Sims is not known as a puncher at all.
01:36But that's not how he's going to win this fight.
01:38Power is not how he's going to win this fight.
01:40His ring generalship, it's defense, and that jab right there controlling Duarte,
01:45not letting him get off on his power punches.
01:47And both of these fighters love going to the body.
01:53You know, Sims thinks this fight for him is pretty simple.
01:56Stick and move, create angles.
01:59Don't let Duarte get in momentum and do not fight with your back against the ropes.
02:03Beautiful combination by Sims right there.
02:06Touch them upstairs, downstairs, every punch in the book.
02:10It sounds so easy, Chris.
02:13But Duarte has shown that it's never easy with him.
02:17In fact, Ryan Garcia, who ended up stopping Duarte,
02:20said that Duarte was the strongest and heaviest hitter that he's ever been in the ring with.
02:25No question.
02:26That's why it is so important for Kenneth Sims to get off to one of these fast starts.
02:30That body shot there by Duarte.
02:32Oh, and a nice uppercut as well.
02:43Sergio, did you like being the home fighter?
02:46I hated it.
02:47I had two draws in my career.
02:49I think Sims didn't like that body shot by Duarte.
02:54There's so many outside distractions.
02:56You got around your family being taken care of, tickets for your friends.
02:59You're trying to sell tickets.
03:01A lot of media responsibilities.
03:03It happens to a lot of fighters.
03:05I mean, we saw it with Regis Progray when he fought in New Orleans.
03:08You know, he didn't look good.
03:10Katie Taylor when she fought in Dublin.
03:11It happens all the time.
03:13Just too much pressure being the hometown fighter.
03:15Yeah, there's a flip side of it, too.
03:16A lot of fighters like it and have success fighting at home, especially over the UK.
03:21Yeah, and you know those close rounds.
03:24The judges hear the noise.
03:25Sometimes, they're humans.
03:27It can't affect who they give a round to.
03:29Tell you what, Sims needed a clean right hand, but Duarte didn't let him have that moment.
03:33Came right back and put a combination on Sims.
03:36Nice.
05:48And that's the thing about Sims.
05:50He can control the majority of this round with that jab, but as soon as he gets touched
05:54by Duarte, Duarte gets nothing but confidence and the heavy hands are on Duarte's side.
05:59You know, earlier tonight, I heard Oscar De La Hoya say, you know, Sims isn't really a runner.
06:11He doesn't move all that much.
06:13He just does a lot of head movement.
06:15And you can see he doesn't really run.
06:17He stays in the pocket.
06:19It is so elusive at the same time.
06:21There's a right hand.
06:22I think runner is a word overused in boxing.
06:25Guys can be sharp defensively, be elusive without running.
06:30And Ken Sims, I think, is a good example of that.
06:32Sims is a flat-footed boxer puncher.
06:34You know, he doesn't rely on power, but he does like fighting.
06:38That's the thing.
06:39Duarte is a straight pressure puncher, but he can't change his stripes.
06:44The thing about Sims is he can box on the outside or fight you on the inside.
06:48Good exchange there for Duarte.
06:50You know, Todd, to your point about running, when I talk to people in Sims' team,
06:54one of their concerns coming into this fight is that Sims will want to rumble with Duarte
06:59because he has that instinct, that reflex, to want to bang on the inside.
07:02They know their best chance to win is to box, but sometimes, Sergio, a fighter's instinct takes over.
07:07No, listen, I love the fact that he has that instinct, it's up to his corner to check that instinct
07:11because he's going to need to fight this monster off him.
07:14He can't just pop him.
07:14Oh, big right hand for Duarte.
07:16That might have buzzed him.
07:17Sims trying to fight off the ropes.
07:22Anytime Sims gets the ropes, he better get off.
07:24He can't stand nowhere near those ropes because Duarte will take advantage of it.
07:29Boys, Duarte put everything he had into that left hand.
07:33Good round here for Duarte.
07:39Good round here for Duarte.
07:47Time.
07:47It starts with an engineer providing access to thousands of Shell EV chargers.
08:04Helping supply more than 20% of the UK's gas.
08:07Getting it from here to here.
08:11Investing in people and communities to build skills for the energy transition.
08:15Shell is helping power the UK now and into the future.
08:27Stay that way.
08:28Stay in control.
08:29Just like you're talking.
08:30Stay in.
08:32Sims doing a good job going around boxing in circles, but he's getting hit with a looping
08:36shots, even though they're blocking, they're ricocheting off his gloves and onto his chin
08:40like that.
08:41The longer this fight goes, the more that his arms aren't going to be able to hold that
08:45power off.
08:46And they're bound to seep through and hurt a guy like Sims if he's not ducking under
08:50those punches.
08:50Todd Grisham, Chris Mannix, Sergio Mora, ringside.
08:58This is our main event.
08:59Off the back heels of a co-main event that'll be considered for one of the best fights of
09:04the year.
09:04Jojo Diaz.
09:06Looked like he found the fountain of youth.
09:09And a tough decision loss to Regis Brogre.
09:11That jab is going to be key, and right now Sims is looking real sharp with that jab, but
09:20he needs to duck onto those punches of Duarte when they're looping around.
09:24You can't even catch those punches.
09:26Duarte punches so hard that even if you catch them, you're going to feel the blunt and the
09:30force.
09:33So Sims, a three-punch combination right there, but back to the stick.
09:36Everything's going to come off that jab.
09:41The Sims need to get the respect of Duarte.
09:44No, I think if he has that jab going and not letting Duarte get off on punches like that,
09:49he's going to be just fine.
09:50So.
09:51Going around.
09:52That'll get some respect.
09:53He sat down on that right hand, and the boss man scored.
09:59Body shot there by Duarte.
10:00See, that's what I mean.
10:01Even when they're blocked, they're bound to have a effect.
10:06The boss man needs to stay in charge of this fight.
10:09He cannot let Duarte back him up and do what he wants when he wants.
10:15Duarte said if he beat Sims Jr., this would be his greatest victory ever.
10:23A title shot very likely for the winner.
10:26Duarte tried to set up that overhand right, but Sims knew it was coming.
10:45Yeah, it's way too early to be looping shots like that.
10:48That right hand would have done better going down to the body.
10:51Sergio of a missed opportunity by Sims, though.
10:53He had Duarte out of position throwing that wild right.
10:56Should have cuddled that with something.
10:58Both of them exchanging.
10:59Sims exchanging.
11:00And this is still about Sims Jr.
11:01He's a fighter, not just off boxing.
11:03He's been able to exchange too early for that, in my opinion.
11:06Sergio, is Sims Jr. going to be too brave for his own good tonight?
11:10He better be smarter than braver.
11:12Oh, and he's got left hand.
11:14Duarte scored again.
11:15Sims Jr. does not look good here in the third.
11:21This is that power of Duarte.
11:23I've never looked at Duarte as being a one-punch knockout guy,
11:25but his accumulation of punches, that's what wears guys down.
11:29If Sims doesn't start dipping and not getting hit by shots,
11:32he needs to defensively make Duarte miss.
11:35He can't catch those shots because they're going to penetrate through
11:37and still do damage.
11:40Guys like Duarte, you got to make a miss completely.
11:42Don't give him any kind of impact.
11:46Just like that.
11:57Hey, Sean.
11:58As soon as you get next to him, right?
12:00When you're standing like this, you know what's going on up.
12:03See, there we have Duarte digging down to the body.
12:15Nothing landing cleanly.
12:16You know, the elbows are tucked in by Sims, moving around the ring.
12:19That's what he needs to do and keep popping that stick.
12:21Nice overhand right there by Sims, changing directions left to right.
12:25But this is what Duarte does best.
12:28He finds a way to penetrate through that guard,
12:30and once he gets started with that combination,
12:32it's hard to stop a bus saw like that.
12:34Yeah, that's a six-punch combination that Duarte landed,
12:37including the one big shot to buckle the legs of Kenneth Sims.
12:40And nowhere to hide from Sims.
12:41Punches are coming from anywhere and everywhere.
12:46All the way back.
12:49Round four scheduled for 12.
12:51We'll get a look at Chris' unofficial scorecard here in a few moments.
12:55Both of these men fought 168 days ago, Sims Jr.
13:03As we look at Chris Mannix's scorecard,
13:05he got it two rounds to one for Duarte.
13:07Yeah, fought Oscar Duarte.
13:08Shots like that, and he landed in the third round.
13:11Won that four.
13:12Look, his power punching is starting to have an effect on Kenneth Sims Jr.
13:17Sims has got to find a way to stay on that jab
13:19and stay away from these power combinations.
13:21Stay on that jab and make Duarte the miss.
13:23If you're not going to be dipping those punches,
13:25if you're not going to use your waist and your upper body
13:27to make Duarte completely miss, you're bound to get broken down.
13:31Good body shot for Duarte a moment ago.
13:34You have the footwork.
13:35You have the jab.
13:36You have the agility.
13:38All that is on your side, but you can't let Duarte do this.
13:43It's hard to out-tough a Mexican.
13:46And there's an overhand shot that landed cleanly on Sims.
13:49Sims took that punch grab.
13:53Sims, eight knockouts in his 22 wins.
13:57Duarte, 23 KOs in his 29 victories.
14:01He said it's hard to out-tough a Mexican,
14:04but you've got to out-maneuver fighters like this,
14:07fighters like Duarte.
14:08Mexico chance here in Chicago,
14:26even though it's the hometown of Sims Jr.
14:30Right hand for Duarte.
14:31Followed it up with a stiff jab.
14:33Sims answers back.
14:34Yeah, he got, Sims got caught with the right egg,
14:36and then came back with a check hook of himself.
14:40Good shot.
14:40There it is again.
14:41And that throws Duarte for a second.
14:43Yep.
14:45It was two solid-ass hooks landed by Sims in this round,
14:47even though Duarte seemed to dominate most of it.
14:50Well, ring four is slated for November 22nd,
14:55as David Benavidez, the Mexican monster,
14:58puts his WBC light heavyweight title on the line
15:02against Anthony Yard.
15:03Plus, Devin Haney challenges Brian Norman Jr.
15:06for his WBO welterweight title.
15:15Keep throwing to the body.
15:18Look, you've got to aim for that midsection.
15:25Look, when he throws that,
15:26when you throw that down,
15:28you've got to keep,
15:29you've got to keep that hand up
15:30for what's coming back.
15:32And there's that nice jab
15:40from Sims that he's been
15:42popping out there.
15:43That's a nice jab right there,
15:44but see, Duarte's getting accustomed to it,
15:46getting accustomed to the length of it.
15:48Sims better start
15:49alternating the speed
15:51and the length of that jab
15:52because Duarte's getting closer and closer
15:54to countering over the top
15:56of that jab.
15:57Chris, that was an accidental
16:00two-minute round.
16:03The timekeeper butchered it.
16:04Bell!
16:06I think that benefits Ken Sims.
16:09One last minute.
16:10And now the referee's saying,
16:11ring the bell.
16:12What's going on here ringside?
16:13I think they're getting too enthralled
16:15in this matchup.
16:17He holds us a minute
16:17because this is a tight fight.
16:20And this is the thing
16:28that we talked about
16:28before this fight,
16:29that Ken Sims Jr.
16:31can do a little bit of boxing,
16:32a little bit of fighting.
16:33Duarte lets him have
16:34the beginning of every round
16:36and Sims controls him
16:38with that jab,
16:38but he has to fight him
16:39in the second half of that round.
16:41And now Chance of USA.
16:43It's like an Olympic showdown, Chris.
16:44World Cup atmosphere.
16:45This is incredible.
16:55I'm getting shades of
16:56Katie Taylor versus Amanda Serrano
16:59when it was the
17:01Puerto Rico and Ireland chance.
17:03Chicago's always been a great city.
17:05I've fought here before.
17:06It's an amazing city.
17:07More fights need to come
17:08to this area in the Midwest.
17:11A couple good counter hooks there
17:13from Ken Sims.
17:14He doesn't have the power
17:15to hurt Duarte,
17:16but he's got to keep throwing
17:17those power shots
17:18to get the respect of him.
17:20Controlling with that jab,
17:21but you can hurt him to the body.
17:22You can hurt him downstairs.
17:24No man is immune to body shots.
17:35There we go.
17:36See, that's Sims Jr. right there.
17:37Poking him downstairs,
17:38coming around the guard,
17:39and then not staying
17:40in front of him.
17:41Go back to that stick.
17:44If Sims Jr. could box like this
17:49for the entire three minutes
17:51of a round,
17:51that's how he wins this fight.
17:54But Duarte's just one left hook
17:56away from freezing
17:57Sims Jr. in his tracks.
18:00Sims Jr. listed as orthodox,
18:03but does like to switch hits.
18:05Yes, he does.
18:05And he's having a great round
18:08right here,
18:08moving around both sides,
18:10left and right,
18:11not letting Duarte get off.
18:13But it's because of that jab,
18:14upstairs and downstairs.
18:16Good left to the body
18:17from Duarte.
18:21Yeah, this is the best round
18:22so far for Sims Jr.
18:23Oh, nice counter.
18:33Good timing from Sims Jr.
18:35Punch is going to be there again.
18:36Catch and counter
18:37right with that left hook.
18:41Puncher or not,
18:42if you catch
18:43an aggressive...
18:45There it is again.
18:45If Sims catches him
18:46with that catch and counter
18:47shoot left hook,
18:48he's going to hurt
18:49Oscar Duarte.
18:51Just like Ryan Garcia
18:52caught him off guard
18:52with that left hook.
18:55Sims may not have
18:56the Garcia power,
18:58but he has that
18:59fast twitch,
19:01quick muscle,
19:02reflex.
19:07Five seconds.
19:08Over in the bell.
19:10Time.
19:22He's had Duarte
19:46digging down to the body.
19:48Kenneth Sims catching
19:49and countering nicely,
19:49but it's that jab
19:51that really impressed
19:52me in that round.
19:53Of course,
19:53those body shots
19:54around the guard
19:54didn't let Duarte
19:55get off on any
19:56of his offense
19:57that he's known for.
20:04That's that
20:05catching counter
20:05left hook
20:06that I was talking about.
20:07That punch
20:07will be there again.
20:08And it was right
20:09on the temple, Sergio,
20:10and you don't have
20:11to have a lot of power
20:12to injure somebody
20:13if you hit him
20:13on the temple.
20:14Yeah, you hurt him
20:15with speed
20:15and not power.
20:16Accuracy.
20:17You see a very happy
20:19corner of Kenneth Sims Jr.
20:21between these last
20:22couple of rounds.
20:23They like the movement.
20:24They like the activity.
20:27That's the kind of fight
20:28they want Kenneth Sims
20:29fighting.
20:29Sergio,
20:30do you think Sims Jr.
20:31has kind of figured
20:32him out,
20:32or is that just going
20:32to be a blip
20:34on the radar
20:34or is this fight
20:35ebbs and flows?
20:35No, he figured him out.
20:36He caught and countered
20:38with that left hook
20:38right now.
20:39I think Sims had
20:40an excellent last round.
20:41He's starting this round
20:42nicely.
20:42Well,
20:46then what do you do
20:47if you're Duarte
20:47if you think
20:48the guy has figured you out?
20:49Well,
20:50you better start
20:50jabbing your way in.
20:51Right now,
20:51he's following Sims
20:52along the ring.
20:53Caught him
20:53with a left hook.
20:54He's following him
20:55around.
20:56He should be,
20:56he should be backing
20:57on with jab,
20:58double and triple jab.
21:00A little bit of smile,
21:02too,
21:02on the face of Kenneth Sims.
21:03Maybe getting into
21:04a bit of a rhythm
21:04here these last
21:05couple of rounds.
21:07Doctor just landed,
21:08almost landed
21:08the perfect overhand right.
21:10Sims better not
21:10get overconfident.
21:12He better not
21:16get tired.
21:17He can't be
21:18stationary against
21:19Duarte.
21:19The body shot
21:20by Duarte.
21:24And that's what
21:25I like about
21:26Sims Jr.
21:27Right back
21:27with the body shot
21:28of his own.
21:29Good counter hook
21:30there, though.
21:32No,
21:32the heavier hands
21:33are definitely
21:34Duarte.
21:35The quicker hands
21:36are going
21:37with Sims Jr.
21:38It's a very
21:42even matchup.
21:44Duarte having
21:45some good moments
21:46here in the six.
21:48Sims Jr.
21:49can't allow
21:49four punch combinations
21:51like that.
21:51Even though they're
21:52blocked,
21:52he needs to catch
21:53and counter.
21:54Intercepts.
21:55There's a left.
21:56Sims saying,
21:57I got you.
21:59Punch in between.
22:00There we go.
22:00That's what Sims Jr.
22:01needs to do.
22:01Punch in between.
22:02The combination of the Duarte.
22:04Don't let him get off
22:04with four or five
22:05punches.
22:06You know,
22:06that uppercut
22:07might have hurt Sims
22:08who's backed
22:08against the ropes now.
22:10Yeah,
22:10it's a couple of times
22:11that Duarte's
22:11trying to land
22:12that rear uppercut.
22:13There he goes
22:13trying to do it
22:14a third time.
22:15Good stretch here
22:16for Duarte
22:16as Sims has slowed down.
22:20Sims didn't slow down.
22:22Duarte's slowing him down.
22:24Good one.
22:31Just when the fight
22:32was maybe
22:33looking like
22:34he was starting
22:34to slip away
22:35from Duarte.
22:36He's had a big round six
22:37but Sims getting
22:38some shots in now.
22:39There's another one.
22:41Now Sims turning south pole.
22:43Turning that right hook.
22:44Giving him a different look.
22:45Going back to orthodox now.
22:55There's the uppercut
22:56from Duarte.
22:57The left hook
22:58and the uppercut
22:58have been the punches
22:59of choice
23:00for Oscar Duarte.
23:01It's been the right hand
23:02of the jab
23:03and the catching counter
23:05left hook
23:06by the boss man himself.
23:07That job right there.
23:09Right down the gut.
23:11Chris,
23:11who did you give
23:12that round to?
23:13It's close.
23:14What an atmosphere
23:17here in Chicago
23:19and what a night
23:19it should be
23:20as Darren Till
23:22and Luke Rockhold,
23:23two former UFC superstars,
23:25step into the ring
23:26to settle the score
23:27in boxing.
23:28That's the co-main event
23:29for UFC icon
23:31Tony Ferguson
23:32who faces
23:33Misfits boxing hero
23:34Salt Poppy.
23:35No takedowns,
23:36just fists.
23:37Live August 30th
23:39from Manchester's
23:40AO Arena.
23:41lead right hand
23:45by Duarte
23:46trying to come around
23:47the guard
23:48of Sims Jr.
23:49But there's that uppercut
23:50you were talking about,
23:50Todd,
23:51because Sims Jr.
23:52got a little bit
23:52too comfortable inside.
23:55Shots like that
23:56will buzz you.
23:57The later this fight goes,
23:58they will take your legs.
24:01Back he comes right there,
24:03Sims Jr.
24:03with the sharper punches,
24:04the quicker shots,
24:06but the power shots
24:07and the heavier punches
24:08that are by Oscar Duarte
24:09in a very close round
24:12and close fight.
24:22A very even fight
24:25between Duarte
24:26and Sims Jr.
24:27We're here in the
24:28seventh round.
24:29That is Chris Mannix.
24:30Have it scored.
24:31I've got a 58-56
24:32in favor of Oscar Duarte.
24:34Very competitive
24:35sixth round,
24:36but I thought the power
24:36of Duarte
24:37helped the match.
24:38I think the power of Duarte
24:39has been the biggest
24:41difference maker
24:41in this fight.
24:42Kenneth Sims had
24:43a terrific fifth round.
24:44He needs to kind of
24:45bottle that up
24:46and make that
24:47through style
24:48the rest of the fight.
24:49Good body shot
24:49from Duarte
24:50and Sims is frozen
24:51against the ropes.
24:52He's not moving.
24:53He's got to move.
24:55He needs to move.
24:56Keep sticking that jab.
24:58Keep this fight
24:58in the middle of the ring.
24:59Stay off the ropes.
25:00And you're Kenneth Sims Jr.
25:01But that's what
25:02Oscar Duarte does.
25:03He forces you
25:04to fight his fight.
25:06Duarte just teeing off
25:08in the stationary
25:08Sims Jr.
25:10And there's that
25:10catch and counter
25:11left hook.
25:12Sims Jr.
25:14Sims ain't a game plan,
25:15man,
25:16but it's just
25:16somewhere like this.
25:17You have to fight him.
25:18You can't just
25:19outbox him.
25:21Stiff jabs there
25:22from Sims Jr.
25:24to back Duarte up.
25:27Anytime Duarte
25:28throws that right hand,
25:29Sims Jr.
25:30is waiting to catch
25:30counter with that
25:31net hook.
25:32Watch your head.
25:38Chris Mannix
25:39is in the corner
25:39of Duarte
25:40with Robert Garcia.
25:42Robert,
25:42what do you think
25:43of what you're seeing?
25:44Well,
25:44the fight's very close.
25:45Sims is doing
25:45a really good job
25:46counterpunching
25:47and when he
25:47got his distance,
25:48that's why we have
25:49to cut the distance
25:50right on the inside
25:51and it's just
25:52going to give him
25:52time to breathe.
25:53What does he have
25:54to do to close
25:54that distance?
25:55He's going to have
25:55to cut the ring
25:56and be aggressive.
25:57Throw more punches.
26:00Throw more punches.
26:04Duarte doesn't seem
26:05to stop throwing punches,
26:06Sergio.
26:07Here's a few more.
26:08Sims Jr.
26:09getting caught
26:09from that sidepaw stance.
26:11I don't think
26:11he should be doing
26:12that,
26:12especially against the ropes.
26:13You're doing fine
26:14from that orthodox stance.
26:15Popping that jab.
26:16Keep doing
26:17what you're having
26:17success with.
26:26Good body shot
26:27there by Sims.
26:28That's what he needs
26:28to do.
26:29Double up and body shots.
26:31If you can start
26:32having Duarte
26:32on the back foot,
26:33that's when you know
26:34those body shots
26:34are taking the leg
26:35of Duarte.
26:36Chris,
26:37what did you make
26:37of that advice
26:38from Garcia?
26:39I think he recognizes
26:40how competitive
26:40this fight is
26:41and wants to keep
26:42this fight in close.
26:43When it's at a bit
26:44of a range,
26:45that's where Kenneth
26:46Sims has his most
26:47success.
26:47When it's there
26:48in the corner,
26:49that's when Oscar
26:49Duarte can unleash
26:50those combinations.
26:52I don't think
26:52they've clinched
26:53once in this fight.
26:55No need for clinching.
26:56This is just power
26:57boxing at its best.
26:58And I'll tell you
26:58what,
26:59even against the ropes,
27:00nothing's landing.
27:00cleanly on Duarte.
27:02Duarte's overloading
27:02on a lot of shots.
27:07Nice right hand
27:08and left just missed
27:09for Duarte.
27:10Oh, he clipped it
27:11with a left
27:12and the time runs out.
27:14great fight here
27:17in Chicago.
27:24That's how you do it.
27:25You gotta keep that up.
27:29You gotta show me
27:30some heart.
27:31You understand?
27:31Don't give him nothing.
27:41Don't let him get that
27:42distance.
27:42You close that.
27:43Because when he has that
27:46distance,
27:47he pitter-pats with that
27:48points.
27:48He tries to get those
27:49points on the outside.
27:50And there you see
27:54Sims against the ropes
27:55and that's what he
27:56shouldn't do.
27:56That's his kryptonite.
27:58Anytime he's on the rope,
27:59Duarte takes advantage
28:00of that.
28:00Nothing cleanly,
28:02but he's landing shots.
28:03Sims landing shots
28:04like that,
28:05catching and countering.
28:07Those are getting
28:08the detention of Duarte,
28:09but they're too far
28:10in between.
28:10You know,
28:11we're into now
28:12the second half
28:14of the fight.
28:15And watching these
28:15two guys in the corner,
28:17Oscar Duarte looks like
28:18the more fatigued fighter.
28:19He was sitting there
28:20breathing deeply
28:21through his mouth.
28:22I was watching
28:22Kenneth Sims Jr.
28:24after that last round.
28:25Looks pretty composed
28:26there in his corner.
28:27So,
28:27looks like his
28:28conditioning is holding
28:28up as we're into the 8th.
28:30Well,
28:30when you spar with
28:31Sean Porter
28:32as your sparring partner,
28:34you're gonna be durable
28:35and in good shape.
28:38Good jab to the gut
28:39there by Sims Jr.
28:39and you can see
28:40that he still has
28:41a snap in that punch.
28:45Which fighter
28:46would you rather be
28:46right now, Sergio?
28:47Sims Jr.
28:48I'll be honest with you,
28:49even though I might be losing,
28:50I like the snap
28:51and the punch
28:52of Sims right now.
28:54I like,
28:55I like the bounce
28:56on the feet,
28:56on his footwork.
28:58I like the fact
28:58that he's using the ring.
29:02Round 7,
29:02Duarte,
29:0327 to 96.
29:05Sims Jr.,
29:0525 to 60.
29:07And that's gonna be
29:07variable when you're
29:08thinking about
29:09how to score
29:09each one of these rounds.
29:10Close when it comes
29:11to connects,
29:12but the output
29:12of Duarte
29:13for most of these rounds
29:14has been significantly higher.
29:17The body shot there
29:17by Sims,
29:18catching you up
29:19at an angle.
29:19You can't even look too, man.
29:20A little bit low
29:21on the body shot there.
29:24The only way
29:25to beat a guy like Duarte
29:26is to catch and counter.
29:27You have to intercept
29:28his,
29:29intercept his punches
29:30in between the shots.
29:31You can't let him get off.
29:33Sims have done that
29:33in spots,
29:34but it's just
29:35so difficult to do
29:36when you have a bus
29:37on like this
29:37in front of you.
29:45It's a good round
29:46by Sims Jr. right now.
29:48He's making Duarte miss.
29:49You can see that Duarte's
29:50a little bit fatigued
29:51now missing.
29:52Still a long way to go.
29:55We're in the eight
29:56and scheduled for 12.
29:59Sims Jr.
30:00needs to keep
30:01picking and pecking
30:02with that jab
30:03and dig him down
30:04to the body
30:04when he's on the inside.
30:05Right here,
30:06he needs to go downstairs
30:07with Mexican.
30:14Chance of Oscar.
30:20There we go.
30:20See that jab right there?
30:21Cutting Duarte in half.
30:23Duarte doesn't like that.
30:24No fighter like that.
30:25The more aggressive you get,
30:26the more you gut them down there.
30:36There we go.
30:38Instead of cutting the ring off,
30:40Duarte's just following Sims around.
30:42Yeah, he is.
30:44There's that uppercut.
30:45It's still there.
30:46And now Sims needs to be stationary.
30:49Or doesn't need to be stationary.
30:50I don't know if Duarte took that round off,
31:14or Sims out-boxed him.
31:16But either way,
31:17good round for Kenneth Sims Jr.
31:21A fantastic night of boxing.
31:24There's the world-famous Navy Pier
31:25here in Chicago, Illinois.
31:27The co-main event,
31:31incredible,
31:32and the main event
31:32not far behind it.
31:36As we enter round nine,
31:37it could be one of those fights, Sergio,
31:38where it's four rounds apiece.
31:40Yeah, I can.
31:41And we expect this.
31:42Boxer versus puncher.
31:43You know,
31:44pressure versus savviness.
31:46That's the beauty of the sweet signs.
31:47Don't tip the bank.
31:54Wake up.
31:56Be great.
31:56Wake up.
31:58Okay?
31:58Look.
31:59Speed.
32:00Use that jab.
32:01Bang.
32:02Bang.
32:03Bang.
32:03Bang.
32:03Okay?
32:04Boxing the shit out of him.
32:07Sims Jr.
32:08said this week
32:08that he didn't think
32:09this would be a typical fight for him.
32:11He said,
32:11I just have to stay locked in,
32:12and I can't let Duarte
32:13have his big moment.
32:16My jab is the key.
32:17Yeah,
32:17he thinks that Duarte
32:18and his team
32:19might have underestimated him
32:20coming into this fight.
32:22His last performance
32:22against Kendo Castaneda,
32:24not his best,
32:25got fatigued
32:25towards the end of that fight,
32:27but he said he only had
32:27two-week training camp
32:28to get ready for that fight
32:30after coming off an injury.
32:31This fight,
32:32full eight-week camp in Las Vegas.
32:34He feels at his best.
32:37Let's see if Duarte
32:38can find his second win.
32:40Appears to be running on fumes.
32:42Good job.
32:49I love all Sims'
32:50boxing in circles, man.
32:52Nice foot kick right there.
32:57Bottle shot broken extension.
32:59Look how close it is.
33:00Those are very similar numbers.
33:03138 landed through eight
33:05for Duarte.
33:06One less for Sims Jr.
33:12That's why the Vegas
33:14oddsmakers had this
33:16as a 50-50 fight,
33:17pretty much.
33:18Slight edge to Duarte.
33:21With better work
33:22from Duarte
33:23in the first half
33:24of this round,
33:25keeping it on the inside,
33:26digging more to the body.
33:27Good catch and counter there.
33:40No, Sims Jr.
33:49Nice body shot for Duarte
33:51and a good flurry from Sims.
33:53Heavy body shots
33:54by Oscar Duarte.
33:55He's got strong,
33:55heavy-handed punches
33:56to the body.
34:00Yeah, much better
34:02round nine here
34:03for Duarte.
34:04Good uppercut.
34:12Good right hand,
34:13a good right cross
34:14from Sims Jr.
34:15That's what Sims is so good
34:16at catching and countering.
34:17Nachoni Saapo,
34:19catching and countering again.
34:20But he caught
34:21too much there.
34:23Because he's squared up
34:24right now
34:24in between lefty
34:26and righty stance
34:26and Duarte's just
34:27going to the body
34:28if he can.
34:30And a left,
34:31a big one for Sims Jr.
34:33That might have hurt
34:33Duarte a little bit.
34:35That rocked Duarte
34:35with a catching and counter.
34:36That's the punch
34:37I was talking about earlier
34:38three rounds ago.
34:39Sims Jr.
34:40catching with that left hand
34:41and returning
34:42with that same left hand.
34:44Duarte with that
34:44zombie mentality.
34:46Even if he's hurt,
34:46he's coming forward.
34:48And if you remember,
34:48Duarte,
34:49when he caught Ryan Garcia,
34:50he was in the front foot
34:51with one hook
34:52that changed the tide
34:53and changed everything.
34:55Knocking out Duarte.
35:05Good right from Sims Jr.
35:07He heard that clicker.
35:12Beautiful.
35:13Decent head by Sims Jr.
35:14What round we on, y'all?
35:28Looking good.
35:30Stay behind the trap, yo.
35:32Look at that foot feint.
35:45The power of the foot feint.
35:46Even though Duarte landed
35:48a nice right hand right there,
35:49that's what Sims needs
35:50to keep doing.
35:50Boxing, Duarte in circles,
35:52foot feinting,
35:53staying behind that jab,
35:54and of course,
35:55staying off the ropes.
35:56Anytime Duarte starts
35:58letting off shots like that,
35:59overhand shots like that,
36:01those are the clean punches
36:03that the judges see
36:04in close fights.
36:07And that left hand,
36:08you saw it just clip the chin.
36:10Those are the ones
36:11that are most devastating
36:12rather than a solid shot.
36:13Yeah.
36:14It's a whip,
36:15the whipping effect.
36:18Only three rounds to go.
36:23You know, Chris,
36:24we mentioned perhaps
36:26Duarte needed a second win.
36:28He seems to have found it.
36:29Found it a little bit
36:30in that last draft
36:31by Kansas Sims also.
36:32It's a pretty good moment
36:33in that last round as well.
36:34But Sergei,
36:35you brought up something
36:35I think I'm seeing more of
36:37with Sims.
36:37That's kind of squaring up
36:38a little more.
36:38Even when he's in the middle
36:39of the ring,
36:40squaring up more
36:40than he has
36:41in previous rounds.
36:43Yeah, he is
36:43because he's switching
36:44lefty and righty.
36:46I just think
36:46he should stick with one.
36:47Let's look at Chris Mannix
36:48who's scorecard through nine.
36:50Yeah, I've got 87-84
36:52in favor of Oscar Duarte.
36:54The output for Duarte
36:55has given him a slight edge
36:57in the last two
36:58and the last three rounds.
36:59He's won on my scorecard.
37:01Good eighth round
37:01for Kansas Sims Jr.
37:03And a very competitive fight
37:04all throughout.
37:05But I've got Duarte up
37:0687-84.
37:08I've got to agree.
37:09I think Duarte
37:09has the momentum.
37:11He has the cleaner shots,
37:12the sexy shots,
37:12the more easy to see.
37:14Even though
37:14I love the work
37:16that Sims Jr. is doing.
37:17He's just not doing it
37:18for long enough
37:19to win the round
37:19is Duarte's heavier shots
37:21that are catching the attention.
37:22And you said earlier
37:23that Sims Jr. had to stay
37:25off the ropes.
37:25He invited Duarte
37:27to come meet him
37:28on the ropes there.
37:28Because he's catching
37:29and countering nicely.
37:30But whenever this fight
37:31is getting away from you,
37:32that's actually a bad look
37:33being against the ropes.
37:35It's also petite.
37:36Good body shot there
37:37by Sims Jr.
37:38on the inside.
37:38I don't think
37:39Duarte liked that shot.
37:43Duarte just putting
37:44his head down
37:45and letting his fist fly.
37:50Good right hand
37:51for Duarte.
37:52I still think
37:58Sims caught the attention
37:59of Duarte
38:00in the body, man.
38:01Oscar, Oscar,
38:03you got to keep
38:04the punches up, okay?
38:05No match.
38:09Being warned about
38:10low glows
38:11was Oscar Duarte.
38:18Sims Jr.
38:19jabs
38:20and body shots.
38:21That's what he needs to do.
38:23He got the respect
38:23of Duarte this front.
38:24I think he hurt him
38:25to the body
38:26because Duarte
38:26hasn't really been
38:27that aggressive
38:28and now he's getting hit
38:29with some clean shots.
38:30Good right hand
38:31and some of those punches
38:32look below the belt.
38:33And that was where,
38:34this is where
38:34Candace Sims Jr.
38:35needs this fight
38:36to be right in the middle
38:37of the ring.
38:42Duarte was winning
38:43the round
38:44until that sequence.
38:52He's leading some
38:53really close rounds.
38:54Left hook
38:55on the exit there
38:56as Sims left his hands down.
38:58Now Sims turning
38:59left-handed.
39:00I just think
39:01he's doing a good job
39:02finding right at it.
39:04How did Norther Dox
39:04why give this man a chance
39:06by scoring up?
39:06You're having a good round.
39:08You're going to the body
39:08and have some good lifts.
39:10Win this round
39:11and let's get the momentum
39:11going
39:12if you're Candace Sims Jr.
39:13Time.
39:14How do you want this fight?
39:26How do you want this fight?
39:30Do you want this fight?
39:31Let's go.
39:31Let's go.
39:32Let's go.
39:32Let's go.
39:32Let's go.
39:34You can't let him breathe.
39:35You understand that?
39:36You got to throw those shots.
39:37You need to keep going down
39:41to the body.
39:41You understand?
39:42You need to watch out
39:45with those low blows.
39:45You cannot get a point deduction.
39:47Don't commit this error
39:48because I don't want to get the point.
39:50I'm telling you.
39:52Nice body shots right there
39:54coming up.
39:55With the uppercuts
39:56it's Kenneth Sims Jr.
39:57but it was a body shot
39:58that caught the attention.
40:01Beautiful shots right there.
40:02Both sides
40:03coming up with the uppercuts.
40:06Yeah.
40:06They're hitting my best.
40:07And Chris,
40:08what do you think about this?
40:09I just checked online
40:10for the live odds.
40:12Duarte minus 800 right now.
40:14An 8-1 favorite
40:15to win this fight.
40:16I think Duarte's
40:17output has been
40:19a big advantage
40:20for him in this fight
40:20but this is still
40:21I think very much
40:22in play for a decision
40:24for Kenneth Sims Jr.
40:26That seems very high.
40:30Especially considering
40:31Sims Jr.
40:31as the hometown fighter.
40:38We're in the championship
40:39rounds here
40:40in Chicago, Illinois.
40:41It's been everything
40:42we thought it could be
40:43in this WBA
40:45title eliminator.
40:48Now, good advice
40:48in between rounds
40:50Robert Garcia
40:51encouraging Duarte
40:52not to just go out there
40:53and headhunt.
40:54He's digging downstairs
40:55to the body.
40:56Mix up your punches.
40:57More diversity.
40:58Well, absolutely.
40:58Because you have someone
40:59moving so much
41:00and having good defense
41:01upstairs.
41:02Just you've got to
41:02keep going to the ribs.
41:04You've got to stop him
41:04from moving
41:05from left to right.
41:06And how do you do that?
41:07You stop him
41:08by going to the body.
41:08Keep him still.
41:12We unleash your combinations.
41:16Count of right
41:17just off target.
41:22Nice turning right there
41:24by Sims Jr.
41:25See, that's what you need
41:25to do.
41:26You turn.
41:26You turn like you're
41:27dancing with your opponent.
41:28Get off the ropes
41:29and dig down to the body.
41:30Look how close
41:32the total punches
41:33landed through 10 rounds.
41:36Man, if you're wondering
41:37why those odds
41:38seem to favor Duarte
41:39at that bottom number
41:40749 to 576
41:42in total punches thrown.
41:49Sims Jr. said
41:50he was going to keep turning
41:51Oscar Duarte
41:52and he's been doing
41:53just that.
41:54Turning him,
41:55not letting Duarte
41:56get off in front of him.
41:57Using the entire ring.
41:59Moving not only
41:59left to right
42:00and of course
42:01popping him
42:02with that jab.
42:06Good right hand
42:07for Duarte.
42:11And he got out
42:12of the way
42:12for the receipt
42:13that time.
42:14Both of them
42:15exchanged hooks
42:16right there.
42:16That hooks
42:17blocked
42:17to get the better
42:18of it.
42:25Yeah,
42:26stabbing jab
42:26to the body.
42:27That's what
42:27stops you.
42:28Stops your opponent
42:29from coming forward.
42:30You keep annoying
42:31him with that jab
42:32down there.
42:34Kenny Sims Jr.
42:35is getting a little
42:35bit too brave
42:36exchanging with Duarte.
42:37Both fighters
42:38just missing big shots
42:39in exchanges.
42:41Maybe he feels
42:42that Duarte
42:42brought some steam
42:43off his punches
42:44and he can take
42:45the shots now.
42:46I understand that
42:47but when you're
42:47doing well,
42:48controlling and
42:49dictating,
42:50that's how you
42:51win this fight.
42:51you stay in control.
42:53You execute
42:54your main plan.
42:56You're going to go
42:57fire for fire
42:58with a fireman.
43:11Stop at the bell.
43:12good round for Duarte.
43:15Good round for Duarte.
43:15day.
43:31Don't give him
43:33no respect.
43:33three shots downstairs
43:37and they're going
43:37looping over the top.
43:40You need to go
43:41one, two, one.
43:42Don't step back.
43:43One, two, one
43:44and stay inside.
43:45Good job.
43:46Last round.
43:47Touch ball.
43:49But you've got to
43:50keep going downstairs
43:51but watch out for
43:51those low blows.
43:52You don't want
43:52a point deduction.
43:54It's changing hooks
44:08right there.
44:08That's what I'm
44:08talking about with
44:09Sims that he wants
44:10to avoid changing
44:11hooks with a hooker
44:12right there.
44:16That's the last round
44:17and it could hang
44:20in the balance.
44:20You never know.
44:24Duarte as he's
44:34always been
44:35on the front foot.
44:37He's the aggressor.
44:38He's taking the fight
44:39to Sims.
44:40Yes, he has.
44:40But Sims Jr.
44:41has been boxing
44:42nicely on the back foot.
44:44This is what we
44:44talked about earlier.
44:45Beautiful, perfect
44:46clash of styles
44:48between boxer
44:49and puncher.
44:51Let's look at
44:51Chris Mannix's
44:52unofficial scorecard.
44:53Yeah, I've got
44:54Oscar Duarte up
44:54106-103.
44:56A close competitive
44:5711 rounds
44:58and an edge Duarte
44:59based on the power
45:00shots.
45:00And again,
45:01the output was
45:02just higher.
45:03But there have
45:03been a lot of
45:04competitive rounds
45:05in this fight.
45:06Right now,
45:06my scorecard
45:07favorites Oscar
45:07Duarte.
45:08106-103.
45:10That's a good
45:11body shot there
45:11by Sims.
45:12But I have to
45:12agree.
45:13Duarte's just
45:14his pressure
45:15and his volume.
45:17Even though
45:17Sims Jr.
45:18has had great
45:18moments,
45:19clean shots.
45:20It's always
45:21Oscar Duarte
45:22on the front
45:22for pushing
45:23the fight.
45:24Landing body shots.
45:29A minute 45
45:30left.
45:33A possible
45:34title opportunity
45:35up for grabs.
45:38Duarte said
45:39this would be
45:40the biggest win
45:40of my life,
45:41no doubt about it.
45:43Sims promised
45:44to deliver
45:44the performance
45:45of his life.
45:50Great performance
45:51by Kenneth
45:52Sims Jr.
45:53I'm not gonna
45:53lie,
45:53but it's not
45:55enough in my
45:56opinion.
45:56Because Duarte
45:56right now,
45:57even though
45:58this is a tight
45:58fight,
45:59is Duarte
46:00on the front
46:00foot.
46:04Not enough
46:05body shots
46:05coming from
46:07Kenneth Sims Jr.
46:07I think if
46:08anything,
46:09if he did get
46:09the respect,
46:10it was after
46:10a body shot,
46:11but he stopped
46:11going downstairs.
46:12There was a
46:13body shot from
46:14Sims Jr.
46:16I said it
46:16before the fight,
46:17if he was
46:17gonna hurt
46:18Duarte,
46:18it was gonna
46:18be a shot
46:19to the midsection.
46:21Yeah,
46:21in a competitive
46:21fight,
46:22with comparable
46:23punches landed,
46:24two things that
46:25can stand out
46:26to judge
46:26the edge.
46:26The one
46:27is who is
46:28the aggressor,
46:28and two,
46:30who is throwing
46:30more punches.
46:34Now you see
46:34Sims Jr.
46:35catching and
46:35countering,
46:36it's just
46:36too little,
46:37too late.
46:37I mean,
46:38these are the
46:38chances he needed
46:39to take earlier
46:40in the fight.
46:41This crowd
46:42is eating it up.
46:44Half a minute
46:45left.
46:50Good check
46:51left hook
46:51from Sims.
46:54He just
46:54hasn't been
46:55active enough
46:55so far
46:56on the 12th.
46:59Good body shot
47:00on the inside
47:01there by Sims.
47:02Who do you like?
47:16Both fans
47:17will think
47:17they've won it.
47:18Oscar Duarte
47:31climbing the ropes.
47:33Kenneth Sims Jr.
47:34Climbing the ropes.
47:36Will the judges
47:43appreciate the
47:44aggression and
47:45output and
47:46power of Duarte
47:47or the slick
47:48boxing and
47:49flurries of
47:50Kenneth Sims Jr.?
47:52Well, rising heavyweight
47:55phenom Moses
47:56Itamwa takes
47:57on the body
47:58snatcher.
47:59Dillian White
48:00in a career
48:00defining clash.
48:02Itamwa just
48:0220 years
48:04of age.
48:04White looking
48:05to reestablish
48:06himself once again
48:07as a heavyweight
48:08title contender.
48:09It's live
48:10from Saudi Arabia
48:11on to zone
48:11pay-per-view
48:12by it now.
48:13Well, Sergio,
48:16could you make
48:16the case
48:17that Kenneth Sims Jr.
48:18won this fight?
48:21Probably not,
48:22but it was a
48:22damn good performance.
48:24I mean,
48:24he executed
48:25like he said
48:26he was in an executed.
48:27He said his jab
48:28was going to be
48:28the key.
48:29He was going to
48:29dictate,
48:30and he did just that,
48:31but he let Duarte
48:32steal some close rounds.
48:35He didn't catch
48:35and counter enough,
48:36but all in all,
48:37I mean,
48:37I think he executed
48:40nicely, man.
48:41It's a tight fight,
48:41a close fight,
48:42but he still got
48:43a sweet
48:43to Oscar Duarte.
48:48Duarte said
48:49in camp
48:50with Roger Garcia,
48:51he's worked a lot
48:51on his footwork
48:52and his conditioning,
48:54and despite
48:54looking like
48:55he was fading
48:56in the seventh
48:56or eighth round,
48:57Duarte really
48:58closed strong.
48:59Yeah, he did,
49:00and I think
49:01Sims Jr.
49:02went away
49:03from the body shots.
49:05I think if
49:05he hurt
49:07and got the respect
49:08of Duarte,
49:08it was a left hand
49:09to the body.
49:10The jab was there,
49:11the movement
49:12was there,
49:12the game plan
49:13was there
49:13for Kenneth
49:14Sims Jr.,
49:14but not enough
49:15body shots.
49:17That was going
49:18to be the key
49:18here, the jab
49:19and going downstairs.
49:21I think he got
49:22the jab,
49:23he just didn't
49:23go downstairs
49:24enough.
49:26Well, either way,
49:27a very memorable
49:28night for Kenneth
49:29Sims Jr.,
49:29who's fighting
49:30at home
49:30for the first
49:31time in 16
49:32years when he
49:33was an amateur.
49:34I think both
49:40men, Sergio,
49:41correct me if I'm
49:41wrong,
49:42fought as well
49:42as they could
49:43fight.
49:43It's just
49:44Duarte,
49:45according to you,
49:46was a little bit
49:46better.
49:47100 percent.
49:48That's the reason
49:48you see smiles
49:49on both their faces
49:50because they both
49:51did what they
49:52trained to do.
49:53They executed
49:53their game plan.
49:55There's nothing
49:55to be ashamed
49:56of here on
49:57either side.
49:58All right,
49:58who got the win?
49:59Joe Martinez
50:00has a decision.
50:02Ladies and gentlemen,
50:04after 12 rounds
50:06of boxing,
50:06we go to
50:07the scorecards.
50:10Here are the
50:11judges' totals.
50:13Judge Al Gallardo
50:14scores at 114,
50:15114 even.
50:20Judge Nathan Palmer,
50:22116, 112.
50:24Mike Fitzgerald,
50:25115, 113.
50:28Your winner,
50:29by majority
50:30decision,
50:32De Parral,
50:33Chihuahua,
50:34Mexico,
50:36Oscar
50:36Miguel
50:38Duarte!
50:43And there you go.
50:44That's exactly
50:44how we saw it.
50:45114, 114
50:47was a drop-up.
50:47Either way,
50:48close fight,
50:49Kenneth St. Jr.
50:50hung in there.
50:51But ultimately,
50:52it was the bust-off
50:53from Chihuahua,
50:54Mexico,
50:55Oscar Duarte,
50:56that was able
50:57to get through,
50:58fight through,
50:59and get this decision.
51:01The biggest win
51:03of his career
51:03and maybe the best
51:04performance of his career.
