00:00so she'd rang me that day and said to me and what time you finished workout will
00:12you throw some lashes on me before I go out she literally had the most infectious laugh ever
00:1930 year old single mom Nadine Lott is getting ready for a festive night out she was going out
00:28for her auntie's birthday she'd always love a good night out that's kind of the way she was
00:36a young girl having fun with her friends I knew that he had sent just a text where are you what
00:46are you doing his obsession is that Nadine isn't out with her family she's out with another man
00:52I really think that this was something that was festering in his mind
00:59we went into the kitchen she was making gas and sales you couldn't see her face
01:10it was like a scene out of a horror movie
01:16Nadine lives in the small Irish seaside town of Orkla with her young daughter
01:36she was a single mom she had her own apartment she was doing really really well
01:43she followed a career in the beauty industry so she followed her goal and she followed her aim so
01:52she had a an idea what she wanted to do and she followed it through
01:55going to work for Nadine was not a job she loved what she did she loved her colleagues
02:03she absolutely adored her clients built great relationships with them
02:08Nadine plans a relaxing day with friends and family in the lead-up to Christmas her ex of six years has
02:38agreed to babysit their daughter 32 year old Daniel Murtagh an amateur MMA fighter from Dublin remains involved in his daughter's life
02:47we were all at a spa day and Nadine said to me everything is civil everything is going well long may it last
02:56Nadine actually thought that he possibly was seeing somebody else because she said he's in good form and I hope he is I hope he's seen somebody else
03:07Murtagh had been obsessing over his ex-girlfriend Nadine but appears to have taken steps to stabilise his life
03:16outwardly showing signs of greater maturity and a renewed focus on his role as a father
03:22every weekend for him was training hard during the week you know engaging in the odd mixed martial arts fight
03:35Stephen Breen is an established Irish crime journalist
03:42Nadine still included Daniel Murtagh in his daughter's life despite the previous behaviour of being quite intimidating but she still wanted to include him that reflects her current nature
03:50Nadine has invited Daniel to come and watch their daughter in her school nativity
04:05he was coming down for the show and she was going to rent his birthday party after it
04:12I was aware that she would have to confirm to him that your relationship is with your daughter there is no relationship with me
04:31Daniel Murtagh would stay the night before taking his daughter back to Dublin the next day to go Christmas shopping
04:38not something that had ever happened before they had gone through the whole bad patch and now he was being okay again
04:45but unknown to Nadine and her family Daniel Murtagh hasn't given up the dream of rekindling the relationship
04:53Daniel Murtagh
05:00you have to think of Murtagh's mindset and what was going through his head when he was coming down to Arklo to attend his daughter's nativity play
05:08again you go back to his ego you go back to his sense of delusion where he's been invited down to Arklo
05:14is this an opportunity for him to reconnect with Nadine is this an opportunity for him to start their relationship again
05:25I think he was being nice because he had some sort of mad illusion that you know him and Nadine were going to give it a go
05:32there was no doubt in any of our minds that there was nothing going on there
05:37we all met in her apartment went to the show
05:43Murtagh was at the show as well
05:46and I always remember coming out of that show
05:49Nadine came out behind me
05:51and she just said see you later
05:53and that was the last time I seen her in life
06:00Nadine has just dropped her daughter back at her appointment
06:03Daniel Murtagh is to babysit at her home
06:12the first time this has happened since the couple split six years ago
06:18she trusted him to look after their child while she went out with her family to celebrate a family event
06:25Nadine was going to her auntie's 50th birthday in the local pub
06:32the last night that I spent with Nadine
06:37we came to Christie's bar and lounge for a meal with my family
06:42this is actually where we parked our cars Nadine's car was parked here
06:47she came a little bit later because she was bringing the birthday cake with her
06:51it's a very special occasion they've been to the nativity play they're going to a family birthday party
07:04it's Christmas she's enjoying herself
07:07Nadine was so happy that night
07:11I mean she was so upbeat
07:13making plans for Christmas
07:15there's nothing about her on that night that would have said to me that I had anything to be concerned about
07:24about 12 of us all sitting around talking at a table
07:30with Irish people we all talk over each other so there's a lot of chat
07:34Nadine wasn't sitting right beside me
07:38Nadine was sitting beside my father
07:39because she took on the role after my mother
07:43of supporting my father
07:46he was saying she was his date for the night
07:55he had been calling her that night to see where she was or what time she was coming home at
08:00I knew that he had sent just a text
08:05you know where are you?
08:07what are you doing?
08:09there was nothing made of that text
08:11there wasn't an always text I got to go or anything
08:14there's clearly an element of delusion there
08:18because his obsession is that
08:20Nadine isn't out with her family
08:22she's out with another man
08:24why isn't she out with me?
08:25a date with someone else
08:26why isn't she home yet?
08:27and thereby
08:29undermining his ego and undermining his image
08:34I said I was going to go but
08:36I'd only had a baby
08:37she was only a couple of months old at the time
08:39so I kind of just backed out at the end
08:41and I still think about that
08:44if I did go out would it have been different
08:46because I would have like walked her home
08:48I only live kind of two or two minutes up the road
08:50would I have walked up and would it have been different?
08:51Arclough is a seaside town on the east coast of Ireland
08:54it's a very vibrant community
08:56people from all kinds of life live in Arclough
08:58it's not far from Dublin, only an hour's drive away
09:01it's a popular town
09:03people who want to live in Arclough
09:04it's a popular town
09:05people who want to live near the seaside
09:07but still work in the city
09:09we go back generations
09:11I was born here
09:12my parents and grandparents
09:13on both sides
09:14are all Arclough
09:16so our family are very integrated here
09:18so our family are very integrated here
09:19Nadine Lott, born in Arclough
09:20Nadine Lott, born in Arclough
09:22is the second lives of Arclough
09:28Nadine Lott, born in 1989
09:31My parents and grandparents on both sides are all our club,
09:37so our family are very integrated here.
09:47Nadine Lott, born in 1989,
09:50is the second of four children to David and Clare Lott.
09:54My earliest memory of Nadine was actually when she was born.
09:58When you looked at her, she had two big brown eyes.
10:01And that stuck in me forever.
10:05She loved other kids being around her.
10:08People would actually look forward to babysitting her
10:10because it would bring happiness into the room when she'd walk in, even as a child.
10:16My earliest memory was probably Christmas.
10:19Nadine got a Polaroid camera and we took a picture
10:22and we're like messy hair, pyjamas, and we looked absolutely ridiculous.
10:26But I think I was only about five or six at the time,
10:29but it sums up mine and Nadine's relationship.
10:32It was always about fun and capturing a memory.
10:35Nadine always brought the fun to my childhood.
10:38I remember Nadine as my baby, my fun-loving baby who, as she grew, became one of my best friends.
10:51Young Nadine quickly develops into an ambitious person.
11:01Her passions are fashion and beauty.
11:03She's busy.
11:05Nadine!
11:06She knew very early on she wanted to go into makeup.
11:12She knew she wanted to be a beautician.
11:14There was no question around it.
11:16She was one of those children who knew exactly what she wanted to do.
11:19And she also knew exactly what she needed to do together.
11:24You just felt like she knew what she was doing.
11:26She had it all worked out.
11:27She knew what she was doing in life.
11:29She knew what she wanted.
11:30She was very cute, so confident, really just sort of kind girl.
11:36We always say that Nadine was like the real glue to our group.
11:45I was the total opposite to her.
11:46She was a social butterfly.
11:48She just brought that out in me.
11:50She was such a genuine person that you actually really believed in every word that she said
11:55and you felt invincible with her.
12:06Like many young people, Nadine has dreams of adventure and opportunity.
12:13So at the age of 23, she decides to follow her friends to Australia.
12:25I remember like yesterday, the day she was leaving.
12:28She had worked extremely hard to get this money to go to Australia.
12:32She did it all herself.
12:33She didn't want support to do that.
12:36Like many of her friends, and indeed across many towns across Ireland,
12:39people went to Australia for a better life, for adventure,
12:42and just to experience something different.
12:52After arriving in Perth, Nadine plans to take a short trip to Darwin.
12:56But whilst there, her plans suddenly change.
12:59I was going to Perth as well, but I thought Nadine was going to be in Perth as well,
13:04but she hadn't come back down from Darwin because she'd met Dan.
13:08Nadine has met Daniel Myrta, a 26-year-old from Dublin
13:12and an amateur mixed martial arts enthusiast.
13:15He's been working as a labourer in Australia for the previous 18 months.
13:20Myrta was someone who was very athletic, he was very focused on his image,
13:25but he was also very charming as well.
13:29I think she was living in a world that was like paradise,
13:32and they had a good relationship in Australia,
13:35so life would have been looking good for her over there.
13:37It was all fun and it was literally like the holiday romance.
13:42I was like, what's he like?
13:44She was like, oh, yeah, he's really fun, really fun,
13:47but not someone that you'd bring home to your mum either.
13:53But Nadine is unaware of Daniel Myrta's troubling reputation back in Dublin.
13:58Growing up, Daniel Myrta was a bit of a loner, acted as a bit of a bully,
14:04was involved in numerous fights,
14:06but they were always kids who were a lot younger and yet smaller than he was.
14:09But as he grew older, he became fascinated by martial arts.
14:13It was all about looking after himself and training hard during the week,
14:16you know, and engaging in the odd mixed martial arts fight.
14:21He needed someone like Nadine, who was, you know, a beautiful young woman.
14:26People saw Nadine as like a trophy to him,
14:29where it wasn't just about him and her having this loving relationship,
14:33it was about him having someone that fitted his image.
14:38But the holiday romance is about to be tested.
14:42After just nine months in Australia, Nadine makes a discovery.
14:47She's pregnant.
14:51So she had phoned me and she was like,
14:53Oh my God, oh my God, you're not going to believe I'm pregnant.
14:56And I was like,
14:57Okay, well, you need to tell Mum.
15:01I just knew.
15:02I just knew.
15:03I had that deep feeling.
15:05I knew what she was going to tell me.
15:06So when she said it to me, it wasn't a shock.
15:09Nadine came home almost immediately after finding out that she was pregnant.
15:19All we wanted to do was get her home and give her a hug and say,
15:22Evening, you'll be all right.
15:23And we loved her even more because she was pregnant.
15:28There was absolutely never a doubt.
15:29She wanted her baby.
15:30And that was it.
15:32However, instead of returning to Ireland with his pregnant girlfriend,
15:35Daniel Murtagh decides to stay behind in Australia.
15:38I think that showed his narcissism and how selfish he was because even then his focus was on staying in Australia.
15:45Rather than returning to Ireland straight away.
15:46Rather than returning to Ireland straight away.
15:48In November 2013,
15:49He was a child.
15:50There was absolutely never a doubt.
15:51She wanted her baby.
15:52And that was it.
15:54However, instead of returning to Ireland with his pregnant girlfriend,
15:57Daniel Murtagh decides to stay behind in Australia.
16:01I think that showed his narcissism and how selfish he was because even then his focus was on staying in Australia rather than returning to Ireland straight away.
16:10In November 2013, Nadine gives birth to a baby girl.
16:17She was so natural with it.
16:20She absolutely adored her.
16:23She loved that all the family made such a fuss and how much we all loved her.
16:30Took to motherhood like a duck to water.
16:33It was natural for her.
16:35Daniel Murtagh has by now returned to Ireland from Australia to be reunited with Nadine and the couple's daughter.
16:51For her, the most important thing was providing a strong family network for her child.
16:56And part of that family network included having the child's father in her life.
17:01So Nadine was determined to make this work.
17:06They moved in here.
17:08And he was always talking about the next big job he was going to have.
17:11He always had the next business venture in mind.
17:14But none of it ever, ever materialized.
17:21After a few months of finding their feet, the young couple move in together in an apartment in Oklo's Marina District.
17:27But Nadine's friends are starting to have doubts about Daniel Murtagh.
17:34He wasn't consistently there like a father should be.
17:38He didn't want the whole family side of life.
17:40He just wanted her.
17:41And he didn't want the responsibilities that came having a family either.
17:45Like he was all into his gym and his MMA fighting.
17:48Like he did come across kind of like, you know, look at me, I have the muscles and look at the girl I've got.
17:56That he did not deserve.
17:59And it isn't long before Nadine realizes she's made a mistake.
18:04They were probably in the apartment a few weeks and Nadine decided no, it wasn't working.
18:10He moved out and she was much happier.
18:16But she always wanted her daughter to know who her father was and have a relationship.
18:23And that was very important to her.
18:25So she maintained a relationship through contact.
18:30Daniel Murtagh moves back to his family home in Dublin.
18:37But he keeps tabs on Nadine's whereabouts.
18:40He definitely had somebody down here who was able to tell him what Nadine was doing.
18:46He would send her text messages and say,
18:49and what were you doing with this person or in this place.
18:54He knew what she was doing or who she was seeing.
18:57Yeah.
19:02She was single.
19:04It was completely within her rights to do that if she wanted to.
19:08And the next morning she got abusive texts about who had she been out with.
19:17He had this delusion that perhaps one day they could get back together and be a family again.
19:24Murtagh was on the outside looking in.
19:27He could clearly see that she was going places.
19:29He could clearly see that she had a future.
19:31And he couldn't cope with that because of his ego.
19:34Because everything about him was all focused on what he could get out of this relationship.
19:53Nadine Loss, now living in her own home in Arklo Island,
19:56has just begun a new job as a beautician at a well-known Dublin beauty salon.
20:05She wanted to be in the beauty industry.
20:07She followed that dream.
20:08Any problems along the way, Nadine would think about them,
20:12find a solution for them and tackle them straight ahead.
20:15She had a certain vibrancy about her.
20:19She wasn't just looking for a job.
20:21She was looking to become a part of something.
20:23She loved it.
20:25She's always had the passion for beauty and I think this was like an extra step.
20:32Nadine's ex, Daniel Murtagh, continues to care for their daughter every other weekend
20:38and becomes increasingly aware of Nadine's newfound success and financial stability.
20:43I think he was jealous of Nadine and how successful she was in her career and how she was getting on with her life and she had a lovely little life for herself.
20:57Nadine, raised in a close loving family, dreams of the same for her own daughter.
21:15Since their child's birth, Daniel Murtagh has remained part of their lives, quietly holding on to the hope of one day reuniting with Nadine.
21:30Eventually, Murtagh suggests a fresh start.
21:34We always just thought that he just wanted to have Nadine for himself.
21:38She was gorgeous. I'd say he was kicking himself that he ever let her go.
21:43I think she always wanted a perfect family.
21:49So she always wanted her daughter to have a relationship with her father.
21:54Three years after they first separated, Nadine decides to give the relationship with Daniel Murtagh another chance
22:03and begins looking for an appropriate house for the family to move into.
22:08As a best friend, you support them no matter what and you'll stick by them even though you know you're going to be picking up the pieces again.
22:14He wasn't mature, he wasn't extremely bright, but there must be something there that would make him eventually want to be a dad to this absolutely amazing child.
22:32Having signed the contract to rent a family home, Nadine has high expectations for her family's future.
22:38Everything was done, they were due to move in on, I think it was the Monday.
22:49The day that they were supposed to move into the house, nobody could locate him.
22:58It was my 21st so it was a big moment in my life and I remember blowing out my candles and Nadine running, crying.
23:06And it was a couple of days later that she made contact with him but he made it very clear that he didn't want this, he didn't want to move in together and to make that moment.
23:21When it came to the crunch, he ran.
23:25She just tried over and over again for her family to make a go of it, but that was the last straw.
23:31She had told everyone about the excitement of her moving into this house with her daughter and, you know, getting this family unit and she was embarrassed.
23:40She was absolutely done after that.
23:43She was quick to let him know that there was nothing ever going to happen ever again.
23:48Despite Nadine making it clear to Daniel that any possibility of them rekindling their relationship has now disappeared, he again begins to keep a close eye on Nadine and any possible new relationships he suspects she's involved in.
24:14She was trying to make it clear that she did not want him and there was never going to be a relationship there again.
24:19So he was just convinced if she doesn't want me, she must have somebody else.
24:23But at that time, she actually didn't have anybody else.
24:25We could clearly see glimpses of his behaviour and his disdain for Nadine and that included him sending text messages.
24:37I know who he is, I know where you are, I know where you're going.
24:41She'd never give him like, you know, that reaction that he's looking for.
24:48He'd be trying to get her riled up and she was like, I'm not going to reply to that.
24:52Yeah, she was always looking at him.
24:53I wouldn't reply, she'd say, look at these messages, not replying.
24:56Though she didn't know what way she could stop it from happening.
25:00She never thought about going further and reporting it or anything because I don't think she thought there was any seriousness in it.
25:08Although there was no sign of any violence during their relationship when they were together,
25:13this is a precursor perhaps to what he did do eventually and it showed his intent.
25:19The relationship that they had was just because of her daughter. That was all it was.
25:40This showed her caring nature because he was the father of their child.
25:53She said to me, I remember, I couldn't give him an inkling that we would ever be a chance of us getting back together
25:59because we're finally co-parenting quite well now.
26:02Absolutely no way would Nadine have allowed him to be with her daughter if she knew
26:27or suspected he was going to be drinking. That wouldn't have happened.
26:32There would have been alternative plans made.
26:39So we finished our meal. I didn't want to stay on. I wanted to go home. I was driving.
26:46So I brought my father in that home.
26:50Nadine had said she was going to stay and have a drink with a friend of mine and her husband.
26:55And when I got home, it was raining.
26:59So I texted Nadine and said to Nadine, it doesn't matter what time.
27:03If you need a lift home, call me and I'll bring you home.
27:06And I never got an answer.
27:18Nadine asked, could anyone find a taxi? And I found a taxi.
27:21So, yeah, a local chap.
27:33Nadine arrives home to the smell of cannabis and to Daniel Murta, who's been drinking heavily.
27:40At the end of the night, Nadine comes home to be with her daughter.
27:43Shortly after Nadine returns home, a neighbor reports the sounds of a disturbance.
27:52The negative feelings had reached boiling point.
27:56And he was of the mindset that I am going to stop her from having a good life.
28:01I'm going to stop her from having a relationship with someone else.
28:05His mindset was, if I can't have her, then no one can.
28:09And that's when he launched this ferocious attack against her.
28:14Daniel Murta, trained in mixed martial arts, unleashes a brutal and sustained assault.
28:22Murta would have known full well how Nadine took care of herself,
28:26how her image was very important to her.
28:29When he inflicted this damage upon her, he was used to using his fists.
28:34It was so violent and so sustained that he continued that attack to make sure that when he left Nadine lying there,
28:42no one would know who she was or she would be unrecognizable to those who loved her.
28:46What was going to hurt her most was to disfigure her.
28:53This was something that would really cause her the most pain was to change her look.
29:01So there did appear to be an element of vindictiveness, like it was being focused on changing her appearance,
29:08the thing that mattered so much to her.
29:09The neighbour, a former classmate of her younger sister Phoebe, is concerned enough to raise the alarm,
29:23and contacts both the Gardee and Nadine's family.
29:26She had basically rang to say that Dan had stabbed Nadine and we needed to come quick.
29:35I remember getting up, just darting down to mam's room.
29:40We were asleep and Phoebe came running down the hall and said,
29:46Mammy, quick, get up, we've to go into Nadine's.
29:49I remember his hole jumping into the car, what seemed like a two-second drive.
29:54That's when Myrta then fled the scene and got into his car and tried to travel back to Dublin.
30:02First, Nadine's mother, brother and sister arrive. It's a chaotic scene.
30:16We were just running around the apartment, trying to find her.
30:19We went into the kitchen. She was in the corner, just thrown in the corner and there was gloom to absolutely everywhere.
30:31She was making gasping sounds.
30:37You couldn't see her face, but I kept telling her that you're okay, I'm here. Your baby's okay. Your baby's fine. Don't worry now. Everything's going to be okay.
30:49I remember my instinct to save my daughter kicking in.
31:00I'm doing what I need to do until the experts get here and save her.
31:07Nadine is taken to hospital by paramedics.
31:1464 injuries to her body. He better to a pulp.
31:20There wasn't practically a bone anywhere in Nadine's body that wasn't broken.
31:30Nadine was beautiful. He did destroy her face.
31:36It's obviously where he really, really focused whatever was inside him.
31:42Murta, meanwhile, has fled, attempting to escape in his car over the Wicklow Mountains.
31:54So Murta's trying to flee the scene, trying to escape justice by leaving Arklow and heading back to his native Dublin.
32:01But he's going over the mountains. He's not going on the motorway.
32:05He's thinking that I can avoid any police checkpoints or any guarded checkpoints.
32:13What could instigate that in any human being to do it to anybody?
32:18Never mind the mother of your child.
32:3534-year-old Daniel Murta has just brutally attacked his ex-girlfriend, Nadine Lott.
32:44She has sustained multiple broken bones and a stab wound to the neck.
32:49Murta has also mutilated her face before leaving her for dead.
32:54But whilst on the run over the Wicklow Mountains, Murta crashes his car.
32:59He crashes the car and the first things he says to the members of the Gardaà who came upon this accident were,
33:09I've just killed my wife, and then this is followed by, I've just killed my girlfriend.
33:14It got the investigators thinking as well, this is the individual we're looking for.
33:19It automatically gets the alarm bells ringing, so he will be brought in for questioning.
33:22Nadine Lott, meanwhile, has made it to hospital.
33:29She's still alive and being treated for her injuries.
33:33Numerous, numerous, numerous injuries.
33:37She was unrecognisable.
33:39She needed over 20, if not more, blood transfusions.
33:43They were trying to get all the details of what had actually happened, how bad was it.
33:49Phoebe could hardly talk.
33:50So I just said, look, go, do whatever you need, just keep us updated.
33:56We all just lost it, I think.
33:59We drove home in silence.
34:01We drove straight to the church.
34:04What else can you do? You don't know what to do in those situations.
34:07I don't know how we ended up in the church, but we did.
34:13The four of us sat there and this lady came over to us.
34:16Seven yous in here for your friend, because the whole town knew about it.
34:18And she gave us these little medals and she said, yous will be okay, yous will be okay.
34:22Yous will be okay.
34:23Yous will be okay.
34:38Nadine's friends organise a vigil, bringing the community together, lighting candles and praying for her survival.
34:44I was made aware that there was a vigil.
34:49And, you know, at the time you're just thinking, okay, all of this, it just has to work.
35:01I don't even think an animal would do as bad to what he had left her like.
35:15It was absolutely horrific. Nothing could spark that.
35:17How he could do the damage that he did is just unfathomable.
35:23It's not a human, a monster, creature, I said, is just pure evil.
35:28They up read, but they just could not do anything to save her life.
35:36She was beaten so badly.
35:44And Nadine lived until the Tuesday at three o'clock.
35:47The nurse let us know when she had slipped away.
35:59Once I had formally identified her, they take her away, straight away.
36:04Her body now becomes evidence.
36:08It was a harrowing court case.
36:36Myrta adding more trauma and pain to Nadine's family.
36:42Horrific to have to sit in two feet of him.
36:51He was basically sitting beside us.
36:53During the court case, he would often smirk at the gallery.
36:57He didn't have many supporters in the gallery, unlike Nadine,
37:01who had her family, her friends there.
37:03Totally unbelievable for him to put us through a trial
37:07where we had to relive and be re-traumatized
37:10for the sake of him trying to get a leaner sentence.
37:13Myrta's defence team argues that his actions amount to manslaughter
37:19rather than murder.
37:20Claiming that Nadine was still his girlfriend,
37:23Myrta's legal team presents his attack as a moment of diminished responsibility
37:27in a case of domestic violence.
37:29There was no relationship.
37:33They were not living together.
37:35The only thing they had done together was have a child
37:40and were together for a very short period of time.
37:43He is trying to insist that he was drunk, he was high,
37:49you know, he didn't intend to kill her.
37:51But due to the level of violence,
37:53it was quite evident that he intended to kill Nadine.
37:57This was a premeditated murder because he couldn't be with her.
38:00I think it just shows the character of the paper trader
38:03and what sort of individual he was.
38:06It shows his disdain for Nadine.
38:09It shows his disdain for our family.
38:11It shows the type of character he is.
38:26At the Central Criminal Court in Dublin,
38:29Daniel Myrta is sentenced to prison.
38:32The jury gave a unanimous verdict.
38:39And as each of them were walking out, acknowledged me.
38:44They all nodded.
38:45The Dean's family is now campaigning to change the law
38:50to increase the length of sentences in cases like this.
38:53It's like, what's life?
38:56What does that mean?
38:57He's got the maximum, he's got the minimum.
38:59What does this mean?
39:02And then you find out exactly what it means.
39:06And life isn't life in this country.
39:08And there are no degrees of homicide in this country.
39:14Anyone convicted of murder could only apply for parole after 12 years.
39:23But that's still something that Nadine's family will have to contend,
39:27where they will have to make their resolutions and make their submissions
39:32as to why he shouldn't be freed.
39:33He gets to see those submissions, but they don't get to see his.
39:36So that's one area of the law where many victims' families have concerns about.
39:40But he has received a life sentence now, so it'll be a long time before he's released from prison.
39:45But again, in 12 years' time he can still apply for parole and therefore cause more trauma to the family.
39:51I don't think I have any feelings towards him because I just don't even waste a second of my day giving him a thought.
40:03He's a waste of space and he's a waste of time.
40:06So I don't waste my time.
40:08You can't come to terms with something so horrific, but we don't have closure.
40:13He took so much away from us.
40:15MUSIC PLAYS
40:37The turnout from Nadine's funeral was absolutely amazing.
40:43That was a great solace in itself, to see so many people there.
40:47The community was a great source of inspiration.
40:55Sometimes it's harder than others to come up.
40:58Because she shouldn't be here.
41:00You know, she does. She's not any person.
41:04Still sit here in disbelief when you see her name on the grave.
41:08You know?
41:11It just doesn't make any sense.
41:14It's just unbelievable.
41:16And unbearable.
41:21She was taken from everybody.
41:23Her love for life is something that I try to live by because she helped me so much.
41:30How one person can be a best friend to everybody is just a massive uniqueness as well.
41:40She lived life to the fullest.
41:42She was just always so happy and positive.
41:45A really great friend.
41:48We miss her so much.
41:49Everyone needs to remember and see Nadine for who she was, not what happened to her.
41:57When anyone sees her photos, it's always smiling, laughing.
42:03She was such a fun person.
42:06She's in every single conversation we have.
42:09She's part of our family.
42:11And that's it.
42:12We talk about her, what she would have thought, what she would have done.
42:17And I want her remembered for the caring, loving, beautiful person that she was.
42:26I'd like her to be remembered as a genuine, loving, caring, sensitive person.
42:34She was beautiful, both inside and out.
42:48As a parent, you're there to protect your child.
43:01I can hear my child screaming.
43:03I can hear her cries.
43:05So, you know, it's living with those nightmares, with those flashbacks, your sleepless nights,
43:12your anxieties, and just the emptiness.
43:15Like somebody who passes from an illness, where you get that time to spend with them and say goodbye.
43:21We never got to say goodbye to Nadine.
43:24Was there something different you should have done on that night?
43:31You could have done on that night.
43:33That's what life is now.
43:37You live your life on what-ifs.
43:40In 2021, Daniel Murta is finally imprisoned for his brutal attack in Oklo, in which he condemned Nadine Lot,
43:54a loving mother, daughter, sister and friend, to her last night out.
44:13Let's find a little Find a way to help Burn Centre pueda evaluate.
44:31Even though 300 athletes are too far too far.
