00:009-1-1, where is your emergency?
00:07I'd like to see if I could get an officer to do a welfare check on my mother.
00:10No one we know of has heard from our white son cops.
00:13It just drew a lot of alarm bells for everybody.
00:16The next steps to take is to obtain that surveillance footage.
00:20It is suspicious.
00:22What are they doing with this money?
00:24I was almost in disbelief.
00:26It was hard for me to realize that somebody could do this to another human being.
00:31It felt like I couldn't breathe.
00:33Don't start from time.
00:35Did you kill her?
00:5671-year-old Cindy Mudd is exchanging presents with her family at Christmas.
01:10Thank you, Haley.
01:11She gave the biggest bear hugs that you could possibly imagine.
01:17She was the perfect grandma in my eyes.
01:20I feel like she was made to be a grandma.
01:23When we did celebrate Christmas, it was a wonderful day.
01:30Nan was a virologist.
01:32She loved what she did, and she was pretty miraculous.
01:36I loved her for it.
01:37My mother was a single mother, and she worked really, really hard to provide for me.
01:46But you did a great job.
01:49Cindy's loyal dog, Dusty, isn't left out.
01:53Dogs were always part of her life, but she was a dog lover.
01:58I can guarantee that dog was at her side at all times.
02:02Just like every other pet we've ever had.
02:08Oh, look what we got here.
02:10Look at that.
02:11Dan started to show signs of dementia and early Alzheimer's.
02:16The last half a dozen times that I saw my mom,
02:20each time I saw her, there was a definite decline in her mental status.
02:26But my mom was funny and strong and kind.
02:36You just never think that something like this is going to happen to your family.
02:40My name is Jessica Bean, and I'd like to see if I could get an officer to do a welfare check on my mother.
02:52On August 18th, we received a call from an individual who was concerned about Cynthia Mudd,
02:57who lived in our Crosslanes area of Kanawha County.
03:01I've been coming by the house every day for, like, the last week, and no one's answering.
03:05No one we know of has heard from her in quite some time.
03:08I had started going down there every day and just pounding on the door.
03:13The only contact we've had has been with this house guest, and he said,
03:16oh, she went away on vacation.
03:18My mother doesn't have the means to take a vacation.
03:20She doesn't have a car.
03:21She doesn't have the money.
03:23We don't know what's going on.
03:24No one's answering.
03:25Is the house guest still there?
03:28The house guest isn't answering the door if he is.
03:32If they haven't been in contact, it could indicate that there's a very serious problem
03:36when we need to find out as quickly as possible the condition of the individual.
03:42All right, Jessica, I'll get somebody over there to check on her.
03:47Dispatch sends Corporal A.J. Miller to Cindy's house.
03:50So I noticed that the house was in really good shape.
03:59The yard was mowed.
04:05Sheriff's office.
04:07I knocked on the residence for over 15 minutes trying to make contact.
04:12I could hear a dog barking inside the home.
04:14Unless we see somebody that is in need of our assistance,
04:21can't open doors that we're not invited inside of.
04:26We generally try and look in the windows to make sure that somebody hasn't fallen.
04:30But they all had curtains and blinds on them.
04:33So I was unable to see inside the residence.
04:40I hit the siren to try and get her attention.
04:43Still no contact.
04:50Cindy's daughter, Jessica, arrives at her mother's home to speak with Corporal Miller.
04:55I remember meeting Jessica.
04:57She could tell me the specifics of her mother's living arrangement
05:01with a man that she's had living there.
05:04So who was the person that was living with your mom?
05:07His name is Sam May.
05:09She wanted a partner.
05:11She wanted a soulmate.
05:13She wanted someone to be with her, like a companion.
05:18But my mother's relationship with Sam May felt like something that you would see on Jerry Springer.
05:27Sam and my mother were a couple.
05:30But he had gotten another female pregnant, Michelle, and moved her into the house.
05:35And my mom was taking care of Sam and his girlfriend.
05:41Michelle had resided in the home up until about a year ago.
05:44Do you have Sam's cell number?
05:46I tried calling it over.
05:47I tried calling it over and over this week.
05:49It rang once, then nothing.
05:52I tried calling it over and over this time.
05:54I triedache.
05:55Hi, Matt.
05:55Hi, my dad.
05:56I'm sorry.
05:57The number you have dialed is fucking Ñ… ì•„ Sarah.
05:57Mudd Patterson was out of service, so you couldn't leave a message.
06:01An MS in-person complaint, it's imperative to campus area to find out when somebody had last seen Mrs. Mudd.
06:10The sooner we get that information, the better.
06:17Deputies speak with Cindy's neighbors.
06:20We had run into her neighbor, Lorna.
06:22Excuse me, ma'am. I'm with the sheriff's office. Do you know your neighbor, Cindy Mudd?
06:27Yes, but I've not seen her, not for a while.
06:29It had been at least three weeks since she had seen her.
06:36Lorna made mention that she had recognized a younger female enter through a window of the residence.
06:43When we hear about somebody going through a window, it does create suspicion.
06:49Lorna says the woman she saw enter the house is Sam's ex-girlfriend, Michelle.
06:54They definitely need to be questioned by law enforcement in regard to why they're doing it.
06:59What's going on?
07:02It's imperative that we make contact with anybody that has had first-hand knowledge of her whereabouts, especially somebody that resides with her.
07:10Who else has been living there?
07:11Two guys, Sam and Arnold.
07:14Who is Arnold?
07:16Sam and Arnold were very good friends.
07:19Arnold would be just as important to speak to, because if anything had happened, he may very well have either heard or seen something that would be beneficial to our investigation.
07:30Lorna had explained that Arnold worked at a gas station about a mile and a half from her home.
07:38I made contact with the manager of the gas station.
07:43Excuse me, ma'am.
07:44I'm with the sheriff's office.
07:45I'm looking for one of your employees, Arnold Hiller.
07:48I was advised that he was let go.
07:51You got his cell number?
07:53Arnold's telephone was out of service, so you couldn't leave a message.
08:08It's kind of a roadblock.
08:09Kanawha County Sheriff's Office opens a missing persons investigation to find Cindy Mudd.
08:22Detective Elford leads the team.
08:25Once all efforts are exhausted in locating her, we put her into NCIC as a missing person.
08:32You just got to go to your next piece of key evidence to hopefully locate her.
08:35Investigators accessed Cindy's bank records to look for clues that might explain her disappearance.
08:45We got Cindy's banking transactions.
08:47Come and have a look.
08:51In looking at the transaction history, I noticed that there had been some ATM withdrawals and a lot of activity on July 20th, 21st, 22nd, and July 26th.
09:04From a Speedway gas station, which is in very close proximity to Cynthia's residence.
09:12That's a total of $832.94.
09:15That's a lot of money.
09:18Those four transactions, they were back to back.
09:21And from looking at her banking history, it's something out of the ordinary.
09:26Let's check it out.
09:28Going down to that gas station, we want to obtain that surveillance footage.
09:32Show me the footage from the camera on the ATM.
09:45We viewed the footage on July 26th, right at the time of the exact transaction.
09:51Our hopes is to see who exactly is using that debit card.
09:57Who's that?
09:58I immediately recognized that person using Cindy's card as Samuel May.
10:17I don't see Cindy.
10:18Show me the exterior camera.
10:22We may be looking for Cindy as well.
10:24See if she may be waiting for him out in the parking lot.
10:26But we see nobody on the footage other than him.
10:33Cynthia had some health issues.
10:36So it sounded as if he had become like a caretaker for Cynthia.
10:41It wouldn't be unusual for Sam to have Cynthia's card to buy groceries or other necessities for Cynthia.
10:53Cindy's card was used at the same ATM three more times.
10:57Let's watch the footage from the dates of the other transactions.
11:00On July 20th and July 21st, I saw that it was Samuel May again.
11:12And he arrived at the store on foot.
11:15He made the cash withdrawal.
11:17He withdraws $403.50 on both of those days.
11:25It was very suspicious.
11:28And he headed back in the same direction of Cynthia Mudd's residence.
11:31What was interesting about July 22nd was not only was Samuel May the one that used the card at the ATM,
11:52but he was also accompanied by another white male.
11:59He's wearing a ball cap, shorts, and a maroon-colored T-shirt.
12:03It was clear that the two men were together.
12:10They were communicating.
12:11They purchased some snacks together.
12:17The male that's with Sam on the surveillance video, he had eyeglasses.
12:21He's noticeably shorter and stockier.
12:24He's got facial hair.
12:27That man with Sam was Arnold Hiller.
12:29The friend of Samuel's, who lived in the home with them.
12:36Show me the outside camera.
12:43They exit the store together, and then they walk back into the direction of Cindy's house.
12:52Seeing that Sam and Arnold had consistently withdrawn money, it is suspicious.
12:57What need did they have for this immediate cash in such large amounts?
13:04What are they doing with this money?
13:06They're just getting out as much money as the ATM will allow them.
13:11The last time Sam and Arnold were seen were just a few days prior.
13:15So in our minds, we have to locate them as quick as possible.
13:22We're going to need a copy of the footage here.
13:23Thanks.
13:27Cindy's daughter, Jessica, calls Detective Alford with information she learned from Sam's ex, Michelle.
13:34Detective Alford speaking.
13:36Hi, Jessica.
13:37How can I help you?
13:38I learned from Jessica that her and Michelle had been in contact with each other.
13:43She said that the last time she saw my mother, Cindy, was a month ago.
13:49Michelle said she broke into the house.
13:51She climbed in through a window, and she said no one's there.
13:54So she thinks that he has fled.
13:57Jessica had given her permission to do that to see if she could maybe locate Cindy.
14:02She told me that she had gone to the house because she hadn't heard anything from my mom.
14:10And she, too, was concerned for my mother.
14:16It was Michelle who neighbor Lorna saw climb through Cindy's window.
14:22Investigators charge her with no crimes for entering Cindy's home.
14:26It was obviously very important that we find and speak to Michelle.
14:32We met Michelle outside of her place of employment.
14:41We interviewed her just in our vehicle outside of the Dollar Tree.
14:47We asked Michelle about going over to Cynthia's house.
14:51She'd been unable to reach Samuel or Arnold by phone, and so she decided to go over to check on the mall.
14:58I actually let myself into the house, and I actually went through the window.
15:03I expected to find Sam passed out in bed.
15:06I was quite shocked to find the house empty.
15:11In Cindy's room, there's pillows missing off of her bed, which is weird because she likes pillows.
15:18If she didn't see any signs of a disturbance, what happened to Cynthia?
15:25So what's your gut telling you?
15:26My gut's telling me that something bad happened to Cindy.
15:31Michelle reveals that she broke up with Sam a week earlier.
15:34He's been a little agitated.
15:39He's been distant, major mood swings.
15:43He'll be okay one minute, and the next minute he's angry at everyone.
15:49Drunk, he's capable of anything.
15:50If Sam wasn't at Salted Drive, do you have any idea where you'd be at?
15:58I don't, honestly.
16:03Michelle explained it because she shares a child with Samuel.
16:07She and Samuel have a tracking app called Life360.
16:13This was very exciting because that could obviously give us GPS locations.
16:18And that just basically shows when it went off in his last location?
16:22Yeah, it shows the last time that he was out of the house.
16:27That was Tuesday night, and then he went home.
16:30Wednesday morning is when Sam turned his phone off.
16:33So that was the last time I know of him being at that location.
16:37It's still off.
16:38It still says off since 944 Wednesday.
16:42Sam turns his tracking app off on August 17th.
16:45About two days before Cindy was reported missing, it raises a red flag.
16:51Why would he stop sharing his location?
16:53Two days, that's a lot of time.
16:55And with the amount of money they were retrieving from the ATM,
16:58I'm sure they could pay someone or maybe take a bus and get out of state.
17:03So we have to locate them as quick as possible.
17:05Back at the sheriff's office, investigators reanalyze Cindy's banking activity.
17:14At this point in the investigation, the transaction history using Cynthia's card
17:19was the only way we had of tracking anybody.
17:23There's new transactions on Cindy's card.
17:25Two days ago.
17:26We found a transaction on August 17th, the day Sam's Life 360 was turned off.
17:34And that was at the family dollar.
17:36It was in the amount of approximately $71.
17:41We had seen who was using the card in July.
17:45But we wanted some video surveillance that would show us
17:48who in particular is using it in August.
17:50Can we see the footage from August 17th?
18:03We learned that the family dollar does have surveillance cameras
18:06and they provided footage of the transaction from August 17th.
18:11Yeah, play from there.
18:14From the camera that's facing the doors,
18:16I'm hoping to see who's using Cynthia Mudd's card.
18:20Stop there.
18:31At 6.07 p.m. exiting the store, we see two white males,
18:36one in a camouflage hat and a blue shirt with a gray backpack.
18:40And we see another male in a white sleeveless shirt and cocky shorts.
18:45That's Sam and Arnold.
18:46It was a confidence booster and let us know we're moving in the right direction.
18:52Rewind.
18:54We're hoping to see what they're purchasing and also when they're checking out as well.
18:59The two don't seem like they're in hiding.
19:04They don't appear nervous.
19:06They are chatty.
19:08They're just kind of joking back and forth.
19:10They shop around for a little while and they pay with Cindy's card.
19:20It's a big moment for us as investigators because we see them still continuing spending Cindy's money
19:26and she's still a missing person.
19:33Across town, Cindy's family grow increasingly concerned about her whereabouts.
19:38Hi, Detective Alford?
19:44And you heard anything yet?
19:46And the police were keeping me informed and making themselves available to me.
19:52Please let me know.
19:54Nothing yet.
19:55At one point, it felt like a nightmare.
20:03I was just hoping that you're, that I was wrong and that I'd been worrying for nothing.
20:15My fears were pretty dark at that point, but I was hoping that maybe she was just sick.
20:21On the following day, after we did the welfare check,
20:31the neighbor contacted the sheriff's office about Cynthia's dog.
20:35911, where's your emergency?
20:38Well, I don't know if anything's going on or not, but this lady's off the road,
20:42the elderly lady, has a dog.
20:44Well, it's been out for days and it's been over my porch eating cat food.
20:49The neighbor thought that was very unusual.
20:52She also went with the dog back over to the residence.
20:55I went to the door, knocked on the door, checked on the lady, and nobody answered.
20:59I followed the dog because it went around back and he kept kissing us this big old pile of brush and stuff.
21:05And he just keeps kissing and whining.
21:08The dog kept going to this location in the backyard, pawing at the ground.
21:12It just drew a lot of alarm bells for everybody.
21:15Deputies went and responded to that call.
21:22So I pulled up to the house.
21:24I then went over and spoke with the neighbor, Tanya, who was the complainant for this 911 call.
21:29I asked her to show me specifically the area of the yard that she was uncomfortable with.
21:38Hi, boy.
21:39I'm going to go have a look.
21:41The dog came with me.
21:43He shadowed me over that location.
21:46Along the back fence, directly behind the house, there was what looked to be a partially covered pile of wood.
21:55I'm a canine handler.
22:00I pay a lot of attention to the dog, to how the dog is interacting with the environment.
22:08As soon as I got close to that wood pile, the dog laid down on his stomach, looked directly at the side of it, and he whimpered.
22:17His behavior completely changed.
22:20Cease the meaning.
22:22I realized that what was meant to look like a wood pile was actually a stack of other stuff.
22:31I peeled part of, like, an outdoor backyard pool, and I saw what I thought was a side of a chest-style freezer.
22:41It was then that it became completely obvious that I was looking at a form of camouflage.
22:46There were several screws holding the freezer door shut.
22:51That immediately set off some red flags for me.
22:55I believed that there was something in the freezer that we needed to get to.
23:00Corporal Radliff calls for backup.
23:02I received a call to go to Salt-N-Drive, so I stop what I'm doing, and I drive there.
23:14When I walk into the backyard, it definitely appeared like someone wanted to conceal this deep freezer from people seeing it.
23:22I think that that dog was letting us know that something was wrong with that area right there.
23:27We attempt to open it.
23:29We actually used pry bars to get the screws out of the way.
23:35There was a strong odor.
23:39I have only ever been able to associate it with death.
23:46We locate this roll of green carpet.
23:49We lifted the carpet out of the deep freezer, and it's got nylon rope around it, like somebody had tied the carpet to make it stay together.
24:02Carefully, they started to peel it open little by little.
24:07We're able to see human bones coming out of that carpet in a human skull.
24:11Based on the state of decomposition, this body has obviously been in the freezer much longer than a day.
24:25We believe that the body in the deep freezer is Cynthia Mudd.
24:31I was almost like in disbelief, you know.
24:34It was hard for me to realize that somebody could do this to another human being.
24:41The medical examiner's office was able to determine that in fact was Cynthia Mudd.
24:55The autopsy revealed that Cynthia had a fractured rib and a fractured sternum.
25:00That information told me that either Cynthia had a very severe accident, whether that be a fall or someone else has caused those injuries.
25:15Due to her being decayed so much, they estimated that she was deceased for at least a month.
25:25Investigators informed Jessica of her mother's death.
25:28My husband and I were on the front porch.
25:33The officer started walking up the steps.
25:37And I said it before she could say anything at all.
25:40No.
25:42No.
25:43No, no.
25:44I said she's dead.
25:51And she was.
25:52They didn't tell me exactly how she died.
26:00They just told me that they found out that Nan was dead.
26:05It felt like I couldn't breathe.
26:09I kind of wished it was wrong.
26:11And that something so heinous could never happen to someone so special to me.
26:17Investigator Secura warned to search the home Cindy shared with Sam and Arnold.
26:25We were able to enter the house and start doing an investigation and collecting evidence and possibly see if the crime happened inside the house.
26:36When I'm walking through the residence, I'm looking for bloodstains.
26:40Places that, you know, she could have been injured.
26:43Weapons, anything to tie what happened to her in the de-freezer in that house.
26:51We noticed that there was a hole in the wall, which could have been made from physical force or maybe a blunt object.
26:58But there was nothing jumping out at us saying that a crime happened inside the house.
27:03As we made our way out to the garage area, we located the white nylon rope.
27:12That rope seemed similar to the white rope that was used to wrap around the carpet that was surrounding the body in the freezer.
27:20Whoever did this to Cindy has access to the home and the garage area.
27:26We're really confident that Sam and Arnold most likely had some involvement in her death.
27:31Finding Sam and Arnold is very crucial.
27:38Detectives analyzed the latest transactions on Cindy's debit card to try to pinpoint their location.
27:45On August 17th, there was another transaction in Charleston, West Virginia, an ATM withdrawal for $400 cash.
27:52That's quite a large amount.
27:54And it prompts us to wonder, is the money being used to, you know, pay to stay somewhere?
28:01It shifted our focus to at least the Charleston area.
28:05I see Cindy's card was attempted to be used at, um, a motel.
28:10It's a quality in.
28:12My mind goes to, they gotta have somewhere to lay their heads.
28:16My adrenaline's pumping because, you know, I want to talk to these guys.
28:19I want to figure out what happened to Cindy.
28:21Detectives head to the quality and motel.
28:26We're from the Kanael County Sheriff's Office.
28:28Have you seen these two men?
28:30We showed that clerk some photos and they remember those two guys, Sam and Arnold.
28:36When they check in.
28:37It was confirmed that, uh, Samuel May and Arnold Hiller checked in to the motel on August 17th.
28:43It's the day before Cynthia Mudd was reported missing.
28:47And that was the day that Sam had turned his location off with Michelle.
28:52I mean, there's no doubt in my mind that they're, they're hiding.
28:55Are they still staying here?
28:56We learned that Sam and Arnold had checked out of the motel on August 22nd.
29:02And this date was interesting because the media had just released that Cynthia's body had been recovered.
29:11Sam and Arnold probably got the feeling that the cards were getting ready to fall.
29:17They realized they needed to make a move.
29:20It was kind of defeating a little bit, but we had another great piece of evidence.
29:24We had the surveillance footage from the hotel.
29:35Okay, play it from there.
29:48The lobby camera provided footage that showed Sam and Arnold checking into that motel
29:53on August 17th at 429 p.m.
29:56And it appears that Arnold gives his ID for the room.
30:01And that Sam pays for the room.
30:10In the lobby, their behavior is somewhat unbelievable because something very bad has happened to Cindy.
30:16And here's the two people closest to her that probably know what's happened.
30:23Yet here they are being seen just kind of casually joking, nonchalant in a motel lobby.
30:31Can you place the footage from the camera in their hallway?
30:33We got really lucky on that particular camera placement.
30:43We got really good views of Sam and Arnold.
30:46They appear to leave the room August 22nd at 9.33 a.m.
30:52Sam exits the room wearing a backpack.
30:54And shortly after Arnold exits the room, he also has his backpack with him.
31:03And they walk out of the hotel at that point.
31:07Seeing that surveillance footage from the hotel, it's unable to really help us on where they were going.
31:12I don't know what happened to him at this point.
31:15It's very urgent to locate these two now because obviously they know law enforcement is actively looking for them.
31:22What's, you know, going through their heads.
31:32Detective Alford speaking.
31:34So on the morning of August 23rd, I received a phone call that Charleston Police Department has Samuel May.
31:43We learned he had actually jumped in the river on the 22nd.
31:48I don't know if he was just using the river to try to maybe float and travel as far as he could to the next city.
31:55But some people had saw him, called 911, so he was in the hospital overnight.
32:00That moment I got that phone call about Samuel May, like, I was, I'm excited.
32:07I want to be in the interview room with him.
32:11Investigators bring Samuel May back to the sheriff's office for questioning.
32:16We're just here to figure out what happened.
32:19You saw the news, you said, so obviously that's what we want to talk to you about.
32:25So just start at the end.
32:26And I'm not one to lie.
32:31And Detective Morgan had just come out and, you know, just flat out asked him.
32:36Let's start from top, say, did you kill her?
32:43Did you kill her?
32:46Thomas.
32:47Sandy?
32:48Yeah.
32:49I did.
32:49When he heard that, we were kind of taken aback from it, like, wow.
32:54Like, he's, he's ready to talk.
32:56He's ready to tell us what's, what really happened.
32:58Arnold and I went out and took a bull bar down the road, which I really shouldn't drink, obviously, because I blacked out.
33:07And, I mean, it's, it's horrifying.
33:11They had gotten drunk and they walked home.
33:15But it was, it was late and I went straight to bed.
33:18And when I got up, you know, Arnold was trying to get me to help her and all that.
33:29And, I mean, you could tell there had been some damage.
33:33What kind of damage then?
33:35Some face punches.
33:37Okay.
33:38I mean, I, I don't, I mean.
33:39She, she went through real hard.
33:41Exactly.
33:41Were those punches for you?
33:44When you blacked out, unlikely?
33:46More than likely.
33:47Oh.
33:48He's just like, yeah, I blacked out on, I woke up and she was hurt really bad.
33:53It seemed like almost like he didn't really care as much.
33:56I don't believe you blacked out.
34:05I believe you knew what happened.
34:08He's admitting a little bit, but he doesn't want to go into all that detail because he knows what he did was really horrible.
34:16He said that he has assaulted Cindy before.
34:20And he's been involved in a few other domestics.
34:23We asked him why he hadn't called the hospital whenever Cindy was hurt.
34:29It blows my mind that neither one of them called 911.
34:41It didn't matter.
34:43And I knew that she quit breathing on the bed over, over one of the nights.
34:50But we found out that Cindy's death wasn't immediate.
34:53It took a few days.
34:55And we checked on her and stuff like that.
34:57Yeah.
34:57He was thinking about himself and not her.
35:09He said that after she had passed away, they decided to take her and roll her up in the carpet, in the deep freezer.
35:16He kind of went about his normal day.
35:19Sam is charged with the murder of Cindy Mudd, as well as the concealment of her body.
35:27Sam didn't admit to remembering what he did.
35:30So we were hoping to ascertain that information from Arnold.
35:33So we had put out still images asking for the public's help in locating Arnold.
35:38Approximately two weeks later, Arnold is located in Beckley and arrested.
35:47We charged Arnold with fraudulent use of someone's debit or credit card.
35:52He's placed in a regional jail.
35:55We were able to come to an agreement for an interview with Arnold.
35:59He tells us that Sam basically steps on her head four or five times.
36:06And when I say step, I mean with force.
36:09The deep freezer idea was Sam's idea.
36:13And Arnold did assist with disposing of her body.
36:17In January of 2023, Arnold Hiller pleads guilty to concealment and disposal of a body.
36:23The fraud charges against Arnold are dropped as part of his guilty plea.
36:29Arnold was sentenced to one to five years.
36:34In August of 2023, Samuel May pled guilty to second-degree murder.
36:39And he was handed a sentence of 40 years in a penitentiary maximum.
36:44As part of the plea deal, prosecutors dropped all other charges against Sam.
36:52Investigators pieced together the events that led to Cindy's death.
36:56The investigation revealed that Sam had a tendency to be violent.
36:59There was reported incidents involving him and Cynthia.
37:02Michelle and Jessica had both said that he's very abusive towards women.
37:08One night in early July, Sam and Arnold go out to a bar and drink.
37:11When they got back from the bar, Cindy was up in the living room.
37:15According to Sam, he blacked out and doesn't recall exactly what happened.
37:22But I would say he was in a fit of rage.
37:26He hit, most likely kicked Cynthia.
37:32Causing a fractured rib and a fractured sternum.
37:34The following day, he realized that he messed up and he needed help.
37:47And he knew Arnold would help him.
37:49They keep her alive for about three days.
37:51They gave her water, trying to sustain her, until she eventually died.
38:00And then the two of them conspired to hide her body by wrapping it in carpet.
38:06And then they put that carpet with Cynthia's body inside of a deep freezer.
38:11And took the freezer out to the backyard where they concealed it with a tarp and stacked other objects up around it.
38:25When Sam and Arnold were using her debit card at the Speedway in mid-July, they were using it after her death.
38:32When they realized that family and reported are missing is when they decided to leave the house.
38:41On August 17th, Sam takes off the Life360 tracking app.
38:48And they make it to the Quality Inn.
38:54Well, I think it just shows that both of them are very selfish.
38:57And, you know, they didn't want to get in trouble for what had happened.
39:02Whereas, you know, if they had called 911 when she was alive, you know,
39:07there's a chance that they could have saved Cindy's life.
39:12I don't think there's really a big motive for Sam.
39:14I think he's just such an aggressive, like, just a bad person and thought he could get away with it.
39:22Cindy's kindness was definitely abused by Sam and Arnold.
39:27I think it would have took a lot longer to resolve if we didn't have the surveillance footage.
39:52It hurts.
40:03There's always that, well, maybe he thought it'd just been forceful and, you know,
40:08gone in there and just taken her out, that she would finally leave him.
40:13And that just never happened.
40:15There's a lot of guilt involved.
40:20Yeah.
40:20I miss her laugh.
40:24I miss the way that she hugs.
40:27I don't know where the world goes without Nan.
40:29I don't know where it's supposed to go without Nan.
40:39She's my mom.
40:42Person who loved me and taught me lessons and...
40:45helped me when I needed her.
40:51If I could say anything to my mom today.
41:01I would want her to know how much she's loved and missed.
41:03Next time on Sino Evil.
41:13911 emergency.
41:15This was an intentionally set fire.
41:17My son told me, no, mom, he's been murdered.
41:21What I never could have expected is video of them doing it.
41:25I mean, you can't even hope for something like that.
41:27I don't know where it's supposed to be.
41:28I don't know where it's supposed to be.
41:29I don't know where it's supposed to be.
41:30I don't know where it's supposed to be.
41:30I don't know where it's supposed to be.
41:31I don't know where it's supposed to be.
41:32I don't know where it's supposed to be.
41:32I don't know where it's supposed to be.
41:33I don't know where it's supposed to be.
41:34I don't know where it's supposed to be.
41:35I don't know where it's supposed to be.
41:36I don't know where it's supposed to be.
41:37I don't know where it's supposed to be.
41:38I don't know where it's supposed to be.
