00:00Powerful 8.8-minute earthquake has triggered a series of tsunami warnings and evacuation orders across Japan, the west coast of the United States and parts of the Pacific.
00:17In Argentina, Javier Mele's government tripled the number of people living on the streets amid the economic crisis that has gripped the country since he took office.
00:35The Israeli regime plans to block civilian populated areas of the Gaza Strip to pressure the Palestinian resistance for not accepting negotiations.
00:47Hello, welcome to From the South. I'm Luis Alberto Matos from the Resur Studios in Havana, Cuba. We begin with the news.
00:55A powerful 8.8-magnitude earthquake has triggered a series of tsunami warnings and evacuation orders across Japan, the west coast of the United States and parts of the Pacific after checking the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia.
01:07The earthquake was the strongest in the region since 1952, according to the Russian Academy of Sciences.
01:11It occurred at a depth of 19.3 km and had its epicenter 126 km east-south-east of Petropavlovsk-Shamkatsuki, a city located in Abu Dhabi.
01:17A powerful 8.8-magnitude earthquake has triggered a series of tsunami warnings and evacuation orders across Japan, the west coast of the United States and parts of the Pacific after checking the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia.
01:23It occurred at a depth of 19.3 km and had its epicenter 126 km east-south-east of Petropavlovsk-Shamkatsuki, a city located in Abu Dhabi.
01:38In this context, a tsunami between 3 and 4 meters high was recorded in some areas of Kamchatka, according to Sergey Lebedev, regional minister of emergency situations, with reports of several injuries.
01:49In addition, the U.S. tsunami warning system issued a warning of dangerous tsunami waves in the coming hours on some coasts of Russia, Japan, Alaska and Hawaii.
02:06And tsunami waves nurtured by the most powerful earthquake that has occurred in Russia since 1952 reached up to 5 meters in that territory,
02:16while Japan and the United States report waves of between 1 and 2 meters.
02:19So far, no fatalities have been reported.
02:22Russia, Japan, the United States and Guam issued urgent evacuation orders from coastal areas.
02:27After the powerful 8.8 earthquake that shook Kamchatka, the Kuri Islands were impacted by strong waves, power outages and several aftershakes.
02:35Meanwhile, Hokkaido was the first Japanese city to receive the wave impact.
02:40Those over 900,000 people were evacuated as well as all workers at the Fukushima nuclear power plant.
02:46Likewise, the U.S. territories of Hawaii and Alaska reported waves of up to 2 meters.
02:51In addition, dangerous currents and sea level rises are expected in New Zealand, the Philippines, Guam, Canada and Australia.
02:58They are on tsunami alerts.
03:13In this context, tsunami alerts were issued in Latin American countries bordering the Pacific Ocean.
03:17Tsunamis, with waves possibly exceeding 4 meters, are approached in several Latin American countries,
03:22such as Mexico, El Salvador and Honduras, after hitting Japan and Hawaii.
03:27Peruvian authorities have already issued emergency alerts and announced the closure of Costa Verde in Lima,
03:32while the Choco and Nariño regions in Colombia were among the first localities in the country to receive the alert.
03:37While the Chilean government estimated the arrival of the tsunamis at 10 a.m. local time,
03:42Ecuador had already spotted waves of up to 1.4 meters high in the Garapogos Islands.
03:48In Venezuela, the government not only offers financing to entrepreneurs, but also technical support and training.
04:16In this episode of Venezuela on the Move, we visit a farm where three varieties of specialty coffee are grown,
04:22accompanied by our correspondent Adriana Sibori.
04:25Hello, nice to greet you.
04:29Generally in many countries in the world, private banks give loans to individuals to raise their initiatives,
04:34but the interest they charge in several occasions drowns the applicant and in the end falls into bankruptcy.
04:39Starting something new in life as a business, an idea, is a challenge, sometimes the need drives it, other times an opportunity is given.
04:52A mixture of conditions are met in Venezuela.
04:55We took on the task of finding out how in the last year public funds have contributed to the development of entrepreneurs,
05:00and in Venezuela, on the move we noticed that it is not only about money.
05:07In the nursery, the seeds are prepared here they are protected, in an area where they take advantage of the sunlight.
05:16When they reach the right size, they are planted directly in the ground.
05:20These mountains are optimal for planting, but the road is not suitable for any vehicle.
05:25We continue on foot for 10 minutes and we arrive at the forest of light.
05:29The tranquility, the sound of birds, that connection with nature is so beautiful.
05:41That is what my experience is, and the name came from there, because it is a forest.
05:47While up there is more light, while we calm down, it is a forest.
05:51So I made the combination of my experience.
05:54It's what I feel every time I come here, and I wanted to give honor to the farm with that name.
06:00A farm with centenary shrubs, originally from Ethiopia.
06:08The first ones arrived in Venezuela around 1730 from Brazil.
06:17This is typical coffee, the best cold coffee criollito, the ones that arrived,
06:22the mothers of everything that can be called coffee.
06:27To Amerilis, the pandemic forced her to immerse herself in the world of coffee growing.
06:35She already produces three varieties of specialty coffee.
06:38It was a long journey with state support, opting for learning and technical support, rather than financing.
06:48They have been dedicated to supporting us in the education part.
06:52In the training part we have done, I did the diploma course of the second court of coffee teachers.
06:58There is a great support that they are giving us, because in fact, from there we have learned many things.
07:04In this case, with the typical coffee, we did not know what a soqueo was.
07:08We did not know how to do so that these plants could take life.
07:13Alberto is the one who teaches about coffee plants, their complications, their cycles, their possible diseases, and their care.
07:25I pass on my knowledge and my experience to producers who have not had the same training that I have.
07:31So it's nice, because you multiply knowledge, so you multiply to see other people do things as they should be done.
07:43Concerned with the effects of climate change, he offers a solution.
07:47Plant trees, because when we plant a tree we are planting water, and we are planting oxygen.
07:53Do you understand me? So, what happens when we plant trees in those coffee plantations that are in the open sky?
07:58We are controlling the solar radiation to the plants.
08:03Part of the forest of light is a protected area, full of trees. No pesticides are used in the plantations.
08:12This is a farm where people work, but Emerilis is in front of it.
08:16I would like to export coffee to make our coffee known at an international level.
08:23I would like to share that in Venezuela a good coffee is produced, a specialty coffee, and if it comes from a woman's hand even more.
08:31Because women play a very important role in the coffee growing industry, and no women are taking over a lot of this.
08:38Behind a great cup of a specialty coffee, there is an excellent woman's hand.
08:49The production of quality Venezuelan coffee, in ascending recovery, is expanding in international markets such as Japan and the United States.
08:56More than 86,000 quintals have been exported this year. Coffee is the second most consumed beverage in the world after water.
09:05Government data show that there are 1,800,000 new enterprises generating income and jobs since 2021.
09:14By law, the creation of public policies is contemplated, which in addition to financing, provide training to the sector, which grew by 59%.
09:23We say goodbye for now, but we are still on the way. I invite you to stay connected to our multi-platform.
09:29I invite you to stay connected to our multi-platform.

09:41We'll be right back, stay with us.
09:43Welcome back.
10:10Welcome back.
10:11In Argentina, Javier Milet's governments triple the number of people living on the streets amid the economic crisis that has gripped the country since he took office.
10:19Milet's government has been marked by growing social unrest driven by the economic situation facing the Argentine people as a result of the neoliberal policies it has implemented.
10:29Official data reflect an increase in the cost of living and the end-of-state policies that protect the most multiple.
10:36Faced with this scenario, the Argentine people continue to organize extensive protests and various demonstrations in rejection of the economic adjustments and decrees that deregulate key areas of the state.
10:49The Argentine president Javier Milet blamed Tuesday banks for the unprecedented rise in the value of the dollar.
11:03Ironically, he had to request them to lend him funds to pay the debt that finally became due.
11:08In response, bankers agreed on giving him 9 billion pesos under their conditions and they refused to lend him the 11,800,000 billion pesos President Milet had requested.
11:20Subsequently, the Argentine head of state raised the interest rate from 46% to 65%.
11:25Nonetheless, he could not pay the debt that came due yesterday.
11:29As a result, the government scored a new defeat in the economic agenda, which accumulates more debt and more high interest, a decision Milet criticized earlier.
11:38And in southern Venezuela, the Bolivar National Armed Forces carried out a successful rescue operation saving the lives of three people who were victims of an aircraft accident in a remote area of the Amazonas state jungle.
12:04According to authorities, the aircraft, which was transporting Venezuelan citizens from the Yanomami people, was heading to the town of Parimapi, located in the municipality of Alto Noco.
12:17Upon learning of the accident, the armed forces immediately activated a search and rescue operation, mobilizing resources and personnel to the area of the accident.
12:25It's important to note that although the weather conditions and the location of the accident presented significant challenges, the response by the authorities was effective.
12:32Rescue operations continue to ensure the care and well-being of the survivors, as well as to investigate the causes of the accident.
12:39The conviction of former President Álvaro Uribe, the maximum leader of the far right in Colombia, poses a series of challenges in some scenarios at the political and legal level that also transcends at the international level.
13:00Correspondent Enantobar with the details.
13:04Once it was known the sense of the ruling by Judge Sandra Heredia condemning the former President Álvaro Uribe Vélez for the crimes of bribery in criminal proceedings and procedural fraud, the reactions have been multiple.
13:18For some analysts, it will affect in various areas.
13:21This is going to have an unquestionable political impact.
13:25I think it is going to have an unquestionable political impact, I think it is going to be a momentary political impact of one or two weeks.
13:31He is still an important politician for Colombia, but he is a politician in decline.
13:36He was important because he was president 20 years ago.
13:39So I think the impact is being overestimated, but obviously the democratic center is going to come out and say they are politically persecuted and victims.
13:48I do not think this is going to last in the long term because they do not have a consolidated presidential candidate.
13:53The case also transcended in the international arena.
14:06The U.S. Secretary of State made a statement rejecting the conviction against the former president.
14:11For specialists, his announcement of support for Uribe not only demonstrates his political closeness, but also represents a clear interference in Colombia's internal affairs.
14:24The relations between Colombia and the United States are accompanied by what are divergent political positions.
14:32But in any case it is convenient to maintain relations between the two countries for many reasons, economic, political, social, but this normality of relations cannot sacrifice the position of autonomy and sovereignty of the Colombian state.
14:47It is an unacceptable position, an interference that cannot be tolerated, and Colombia must emphatically reject this intervention of the United States Secretary of State.
15:02While human rights organizations expect Uribe to respect the ruling against him and reiterate that this is not a political trial and will wait until August 1st to hear the sentence that Judge Sandra Heredia will impose on Alvaro Uribe.
15:17In this regard, the prosecution has requested a sentence of nine years and the place of his imprisonment will be determined.
15:24The judge herself has outlined the possibility of house arrest.
15:28The defense of the condemned man has already warned that it will appeal the ruling for review in the second instance.
15:35What we hope in any case is that he does not turn this sentence against him into a court to continue destroying the institutionality, to continue affecting democratic governance.
15:46I believe it is time for him to retire from public life and take this as a lesson, because let's remember that this is not a political persecution of President Gustavo Petro.
16:01Let's remember that this started more than 14 years ago when he tried to indict before the Supreme Court of Justice Senator Cepeda for the same crimes for which he has been convicted today.
16:16After the publication of the sentence, Uribe's defense will have five days to file the appeal in the second instance.
16:26The appeal must be resolved by the Superior Court of Bogotá, which must review the ruling and make a determination before October 16, when the criminal action against Uribe Vélez becomes time-bearable.
16:36In Guatemala an eviction operation in the community of Santa Rosalia Marble in the Rio Hondo Municipality left three people dead.
16:52The procedure was carried out on the grounds of a hydroelectric power plant located in the Guatemalan Department of Sacapa, causing the death of two residents and a national civil police officer.
17:04In addition, several people have been reported injured, although the exact number has not yet been confirmed.
17:09In this regard, videos circulating on social media show police violence in response to the farmers' protest.
17:15In the aftermath, local organizations and social media users have criticized the lack of dialogue on the part of the authorities.
17:22Every year several Cuban cultural institutions organize a wide range of recreational options for the month of July and August, coinciding with the school break.
17:50From Havana, Eric Mendez with details.
17:53People say that Cuba is an eternal summer.
17:57People say that Cuba is an eternal summer.
18:00However, in the months of July and August, when temperatures rise, cultural options multiply.
18:09Located in one of the most central areas of Havana, the Cubic Pavilion bears witness to this.
18:14During the summer season, this space becomes a favorite for the whole family, especially for the youngest members of the family.
18:24It was very nice here, I liked it very much, I want all the children to come to the fair.
18:31Come here to the fair, because this place is a lot of fun, and it is our passion to play together.
18:39Yes, I made a new friend, he's laughing over there with the cats.
18:46This is a lot of fun for the kids and I like it.
18:51Every year, the Cuban culture fair, Art on the Ramp, becomes one of the main options for the enjoyment of the residents of Havana, and those who visit the city during these days.
19:04On the stage, are not only established artists, but also the youngest ones.
19:14Telesur's visit coincided with the presentation of a dance company, made up of girls between 3 and 12 years of age.
19:23It just so happens that today is the one year anniversary of the founding of my youth ballet.
19:29We just premiered it here at the Art on the Ramp, an invitation from the Cuban Fund for Cultural Goods.
19:34I am very grateful to all of them for having us here and well, all this gives us the opportunity to be seen by a wider public, and to move to other places in the city.
19:43Art on the Ramp, is also a space for traditions. Every week, the fair allows peasant music to take over the city center.
19:56In the pavilion such an important center for Havana, to demonstrate that traditions are still alive, especially in children and young people.
20:06This is very good, it has been a long time since something like this was done. The last time something like this was done was in 2002.
20:15It is a way to keep the tradition alive, the country music. It is also a way to pay homage to Tomasira, an icon of the Cuban music.
20:25The Art on the Ramp Fair becomes not only a showcase for Cuban culture, but also a space for the whole family to enjoy.
20:35A cultural oasis to escape, for a while, from the heat of the Caribbean summer.

21:39The Israeli regime plans to block civilian populated areas of the Gaza Strip to pressure
21:43the Palestinian resistance for not accepting negotiations.
21:46The occupation forces plan includes a total ban on the entry of food, water and any humanitarian
21:51aid.
21:52The Israeli army, although it has not formally approved the measure, is considering implementing
21:56the blockade simultaneously or in stages in the areas of Gaza City, the refugee camps
22:01in the center and the Al-Mawazi humanitarian zone.
22:04The Syrian regime in Tel Aviv once again attacks the welfare of the Palestinian people despite
22:08the humanitarian catastrophe it has caused during months of attacks, forced displacements
22:14and blockades.
22:21On Wednesday, the Palestinian Ministry of Health issued a warning about an increase
22:29in death from malnutrition and hunger in the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours.
22:34Health authorities reported seven deaths from starvation and malnutrition, including one
22:38child.
22:39So far, health authorities reported 151 Palestinians have died of starvation, including 89 children.
22:46Indicators warn of a serious risk of famine in the Palestinian enclave, where food consumption
22:50and nutrition levels are at their worst since the beginning of the conflict.
22:56In Malta, Prime Minister Robert Abella announced that his country would recognize the state
23:07of Palestine during the United Nations General Assembly in September.
23:10Abella made the announcement a few hours after a similar statement by British Prime Minister
23:15Keogh Starmer and days after France announced its plans to recognize the Palestinian state.
23:21Prime Minister had already announced in May that Malta would recognize the state of Palestine
23:25during the conference on the two-state solution, which was initially scheduled for June but
23:30was postponed and officially began two days ago in New York.
23:34At the time, he stressed that the worsening humanitarian tragedy caused by Israel's continued
23:38aggression in the Gaza Strip could not be ignored.
23:50And China demands the Israeli regime to immediately end military operations in Gaza and fully lift the
23:55blockade on vital aid.
23:57Spokesperson for the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Guo Yacoum, said Gaza is living in an unprecedented
24:02catastrophe after 21 months of the Israeli blockade of humanitarian aid.
24:07China holds the Sionist government responsible for the over 140 deaths in nutrition,
24:12based on the figures from the World Health Organization.
24:15The Asian giant's position contrasts with that of 17 countries, including France, Spain, Canada,
24:21and Arab nations, such as Jordan and Saudi Arabia, whose governments have called on the Palestinian
24:26resistance to lay down their arms.
24:28The Chinese giant, the man, comes on the same day that Israeli Interior Minister Itamar Ben-Vir
24:36declared all-out war on Hamas.
24:43On Wednesday, the first Australian-made rocket to attempt to reach orbit from the country's
24:50soil crashed after 14 seconds of flight.
24:53No one was reported hurt.
24:55The rocket Iris, launched by Gilmore Space Technologies, was the first Australian designed
25:01and manufactured orbital launch vehicle to lift off from the country, and was designed
25:05to carry small satellites to orbit.
25:07It was launched on Wednesday morning, local time, in a test flight from a spaceport near
25:13the small town of Bowen, in the north of Queensland State.
25:17Gilmore Space Technologies has private funders and received this month a 3.2 million Australian
25:22dollar grant from the country's federal government for development of the now-crashed
25:27Aries rocket.
