00:00Park Lane is perhaps one of London's best known roads, but the green area that separates
00:11this dual carriageway, which is owned by Transport for London, for the last few years has been
00:19home to a makeshift camp. Tents erected by those sleeping rough and those that cannot
00:26afford housing have been a common sight in what is one of London's most affluent areas.
00:35Perhaps an unsurprising development when considering just how unaffordable London is for so many
00:43people. Transport for London spent £35,260 between 2024 and 2025 in their attempt to remove
00:55the encampment from Park Lane. TfL has suggested their attempts to do so were done on safety
01:02grounds, saying no one should be faced with sleeping rough. But that Park Lane was not safe. Information
01:11came out after a Freedom of Information request submitted by the local Democracy Reporting Service.
01:20TfL added people who had been sleeping rough in Park Lane had been made aware they would
01:29be removed if they returned and that security staff would patrol the area. A spokesperson for
01:37homeless charity St Mungos said people facing rough sleeping in London needed to be supported.
