00:00Have you ever wondered if you're the smartest person in the room, your office, or maybe even
00:07your hometown? Absolutely I do. Think you'd be smarter than half the country? Top 10% or maybe
00:13even the top 1%? I have the looks but obviously not the smarts. Doesn't matter where you went
00:19to school or what you do for a living. I'm a performer, waiter, I'll do it all. So mostly a
00:25waiter. The 1% Club levels the playing field for everyone. Before the show, we asked people
00:32from all over the United States a list of our unique questions that are designed to test
00:36logic, common sense, and how our brain actually works. Which of these snowflakes is exactly
00:42the same on both sides? Tonight we'll be asking those exact questions to our 100 contestants,
00:49beginning with the easiest one that 90% of America got right and ending with the hardest
00:53questions that only 1% of the American public answered correctly. At the start of each show,
00:59every contestant is given a $1,000 stake. If they get any question wrong, they're out of
01:04the game and their $1,000 goes into the prize pot. We lost 36 of you. It's a bloodbath out
01:10here. Whoever gets the furthest tonight gets the chance to answer the final 1% question and
01:15take home up to $100,000. I'll be doing the asking tonight and here doing the answering are
01:21these 100 contestants. I'm Joel McHale and it's time to play the 1% Club. This game moves very fast,
01:34so let's jump right in. Also, I have a dinner reservation in 45 minutes. Here we go. First up,
01:42the 90% question. One out of 10 of the Americans we polled got this wrong. I know, I know, we're
01:51already starting with math. Let's see how you fare with this question. A keytar gets its name because
01:57it's part keyboard and part guitar. What is the name of the hybrid instrument below? Your time starts now.
02:05And before you get any ideas, I already have patented the instrument, everyone.
02:24That is time. And everybody's wrong. Just kidding. Now let's see how many of you got the question
02:30right and how many of you are out of the game? We didn't lose anybody. Wow. None of you are idiots.
02:48That's great, which means we have 100 of you left. The answer, of course, is C. The hybrid instrument
02:56is part trombone and part tambourine. So it's a tromborine. Let's talk to somebody who got it
03:03right. That's all of you. So, Jimmy. Joel, what's going on, man? Congratulations on getting into the
03:08masters. I feel honored. You won the whole thing. Right. I can lead now. Jimmy, you got it right.
03:16I did. How long did it take you? Well, I'm a musician, so it didn't take that long. What instrument do
03:22you play? I actually play saxophone, but I'm a real estate agent, so I'm much better at selling
03:26houses than I am selling music. Do you ever play the saxophone while showing a home? Well, I do do
03:32music while I sell my homes. You know, when it's time to sell your home, call Jimmy Jones. When it's
03:37time to sell your home, call Jimmy Jones. Are the potential buyers like, I thought you played the
03:44saxophone. I pull out my saxophone when the jingle doesn't work. And then you're like, this one's
03:49got up a day. Okay, cool. Jimmy, thank you for being here. Honored to meet you, Joe. All right. The
03:56$1,000 of everyone who answers incorrectly goes into the prize pot, which is now at zero. Yeah.
04:05Yeah. Nothing. Now, if you just all keep getting it right, well, we're going to be here for days.
04:13All right. This is the 80% question.
04:19One of the kids pictured below took a bite out of the slice of pizza. Who was it? Your time starts now.
04:33Who the hell eats pizza starting from the side? What's that? What's... They're aliens.
04:43That is time, everybody. Let's see who remains proudly in the game and who will now be kicked
04:51to the curb like human garbage.
05:04We lost three of you on that question, which means we've got 97 of you left. Here's the answer.
05:12B, Billy. The only person whose smile would make that shape a bite is Billy,
05:16since he's missing his two front teeth. Let's talk to somebody who got it right. Erica.
05:21Yes. What do you do for work, Erica? I raise rare chickens.
05:25Oh. What's the rarest chicken you raise?
05:27Silky's. They're champions.
05:29Wow. How do they taste?
05:31Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no. We don't eat them.
05:33Oh, so sorry.
05:34No, no, no, no, no, no.
05:36Do you eat chicken at all?
05:37I eat chicken, but I do not talk about eating chicken around the chickens.
05:41They understand English.
05:42Yes, completely. Completely.
05:44What would you do with the money if you win?
05:46Okay, so I'm going to start a silky circus.
05:49A silky circus. That's the name of the barbecue?
05:52No.
05:53Ah, sorry. Erica, you are my favorite.
05:57Okay? Thank you, Erica.
05:59The prize pot now stands at $3,000.
06:05Time for the next question.
06:07This one is not more difficult. It is merely less easy.
06:10Here is your 70% question.
06:16Joey loves to take apart his action figures and use their parts to make new ones.
06:20Which pair of figures below did he use parts from to make the one pictured here?
06:25Your time starts now.
06:32Makes you wonder what little Joey could do if you gave him a trombone and a tambourine, huh?
06:36That is time.
06:47Our lighting programmer, Rob, will now reveal who got it wrong.
06:51Rob?
06:51We lost four of you on that question, which means we've got 93 of you left.
07:08Here's the answer.
07:09B. Only the second pair has the character with the triangle chess piece.
07:14The triangle chess piece.
07:20Not the cod piece.
07:23That's on all of them.
07:25All right.
07:26Let's talk to somebody who got it wrong.
07:28Stephanie.
07:29Hi.
07:29What happened?
07:30I don't follow directions, apparently.
07:33You're on a game show right now.
07:35I understand.
07:36I made it here.
07:37All right.
07:38Who are you here with, Stephanie?
07:39I'm here with my son, Cameron.
07:41Where's Cameron?
07:42Right here.
07:43Cameron.
07:43Hello.
07:44Cameron, how do you feel about your mom's answer?
07:46I don't think I'm surprised.
07:50I love you, too.
07:51Oh, see?
07:53Cameron, you kind of look like Jeffrey Dahmer.
07:56Oh, my God.
07:58Your mom laughed, so that's good.
08:01Karma.
08:02All right.
08:03Let's look at the prize pot.
08:04It now stands at $7,000.
08:11All right.
08:12Here's the 60% question.
08:17In this image, the letter O and the number zero each appear repeatedly.
08:22How many zeros are there?
08:24Your time starts now.
08:34This just looks like a wonderful plate of calamari to me, no?
08:50And that is time.
08:51Let's see who got the question wrong.
08:54Take it away, blue light.
08:55We lost 10 of you on that question, which means we've got 83 of you left.
09:13Here is the answer.
09:1515.
09:17You see?
09:19Let's talk to somebody who wrote down 14.
09:21Reed.
09:22Reed, you wrote down 14.
09:23I did.
09:24What do you do?
09:25I'm a financial advisor.
09:27Okay.
09:30And I work with professional athletes.
09:32Oh, so, yeah, they get ripped off all the time.
09:36Are you here with anyone else today, Reed?
09:37I am, and this was my greatest fear, was getting out before the two people came.
09:42Okay, settle down.
09:44This is my biggest win, baby!
09:47Do you know that guy?
09:48I don't.
09:49All right, it's somebody else, right?
09:50You're here with someone?
09:51My sister-in-law is here, and that is my brother, unfortunately.
09:54That's your brother.
09:55Okay.
09:55What's your name?
09:56Chad.
09:56I'm Jordana.
09:57All right, Chad the freak, Jordana his wife, and Reed.
10:01The loser.
10:02Did you work out today, sir?
10:04I did not work out today, but I appreciate that.
10:06You stole that shirt from a baby?
10:07Yes.
10:09So, just subtract one size.
10:11It makes everybody look bigger.
10:11Yeah, I know what you mean.
10:13I do the same thing.
10:14Do you like the shirt choice of your husband?
10:15You know, I don't hate it.
10:18Okay.
10:19Well, I guess that's why you married him.
10:20Chad, what do you do?
10:22I am a caffeine dealer.
10:24I work for a coffee company.
10:26I do account management and sales for them.
10:28And are you this loud and screaming a lot when you're around them?
10:32I'm like, yeah, we're buying some coffee beans!
10:35I'm just going to eat them, all right?
10:37Let's see how they are!
10:38Woo!
10:39For Dan, a good dude from Columbia!
10:41Did that happen?
10:43They actually, at the office, tell me not to drink as much coffee.
10:45I should be on about five cups right now.
10:48Okay.
10:48Jordana, what's it like to have to live with him?
10:50I actually have two sons that are exactly like him.
10:53Dear Lord.
10:54So, I pretty much live with three of him, and it might be my death.
10:58I can't imagine what dating was like.
11:01Going to dinner!
11:04Well, thanks for being here, you guys.
11:06All right.
11:06Our prize pot now stands at...
11:09$17,000!
11:13Ah-ha, see, it's getting there.
11:16We're going to put a pin in this so I can do a quick chest workout.
11:19But we'll be back with way more 1% Club action after the break.
11:30Welcome back to the 1% Club.
11:33Coincidentally, 1% Club is also the nickname for my film career on Rotten Tomatoes.
11:39For any of the next 10 questions, you can use the $1,000 we gave you to pay for a pass
11:44and move on to the next question.
11:46You can only do this once, and your $1,000 will go straight into the prize pot,
11:51so use your pass wisely.
11:53Let's continue the game.
11:54I call this next one the hump question, even though the producers keep begging me not to.
11:59Nevertheless, we are over the hump with a question only half of Americans polled got right.
12:05It's the 50% question.
12:10What word can be made by intersecting the teeth of the two combs below?
12:15Your time starts now.
12:17Boy, before my hair transplants, I didn't need those.
12:40Your time is up.
12:43Let's see who answered correctly and who did not.
12:58We lost 8 of you on that question, which means we've got 75 of you left.
13:04Let's take a look at the answer, shall we?
13:05The word comb over is revealed when you move the comb over and interlock the teeth.
13:12Let's talk to somebody who got it right, Felita.
13:15Hi, Felita.
13:16What do you do for work?
13:17I am a truck driver.
13:19What kind of truck?
13:2018-wheelers.
13:21Right.
13:22Do you love driving trucks?
13:23I do.
13:24It's adventurous.
13:25I see a lot sitting up high looking down low, and a lot of times I just drive in a fast lane
13:30because I don't want to see what's going on.
13:32It'd be some stuff going on in cars.
13:33Uh, like tying a tie?
13:37That's a nice way to put it.
13:40That's the best way to put it.
13:42That round pushed and pulled the prize pot total up to...
13:47$31,000.
13:51Yeah.
13:53Here is the 45% question.
13:55The name of which U.S. state cannot be made using the words on the image seen here.
14:05Your time starts now.
14:06This is a page from the passport of the world's most boring traveler.
14:17Time is up.
14:32Stop answering and start worrying.
14:35Let's see who got eliminated.
14:37We lost four of you on that question, which means we've got 71 of you left, and 13 of you used your pass.
14:55And the answer is C, West Virginia.
14:59The word West is not in the image.
15:02Erica?
15:03Yes.
15:06What happened?
15:07I pressed Iowa, and then I saw it afterwards.
15:09I went, oh, God.
15:10Oh.
15:11Well, Erica, I'm glad you're still going to be here.
15:13Oh, God.
15:14And, you know, we'll just have fun.
15:16Okay, great.
15:18Let's talk to Jennifer M.
15:19Jennifer?
15:20Hi, Jennifer.
15:20So, what was your answer?
15:22I must have run out of time.
15:24I did not listen as well as I should have.
15:26So, there we are.
15:27What would you have done with the money?
15:28We have a very interesting pool.
15:31I have a phallic-shaped pool, as you can imagine that.
15:34And, I mean, now I have teens, and they're like, really?
15:36Do we need to swim in the balls?
15:38I'm like, fair enough.
15:40Touche.
15:40And, you know, buyer's remorse at that point, you can't take it back.
15:44Yeah, like taking the answer back that you gave, which was no answer, right?
15:49Thank you, Jennifer M.
15:51Let's talk to Andrew F.
15:53Yes, right here.
15:54Hi, Andrew.
15:54You used your pass.
15:55Well, I just wanted to add money to the pot, make everyone a little more motivated.
15:59Thank you very much, Andrew.
16:01That was very nice of you.
16:03Do you think you're going to go all the way and get the big money?
16:06I'm in another league.
16:07What league are you in?
16:08It's like 0.5%.
16:10The 0.5% coming up right after the 1%, okay?
16:14I live on YouTube watching all sorts of crazy stuff, so I feel like this is right up my alley.
16:19Because you watch YouTube videos, this makes you good at a quiz show.
16:24You're kind of old to understand it, but YouTube is like the new thing.
16:27I am very old, but how dare you?
16:29Old people watch all sorts of instruction.
16:32You'll see when I'm down there.
16:34Okay.
16:35Look at the confidence of Andrew.
16:37Thanks for dressing like a Boy Scout.
16:39Let's do it.
16:39All right.
16:40The prize pot is now.
16:44$47,000.
16:46We're in the thick of it now.
16:47Only 40% of Americans pulled answered this question correctly,
16:51which is how it got its cute little nickname, the 40% question.
16:58Based on the invitation, whose wedding is likely to have the fewest guests in attendance?
17:04Your time starts now.
17:09And yes, each wedding band will feature a tromborine player.
17:16That is time.
17:32Let's see who answered correctly and who did not.
17:37We lost 15 of you, which means we've got 56 of you left and nine of you used your passes.
17:56Here's the answer.
17:58C. Taylor and Morgan's wedding date is February 30th, and no one will be able to make it on that date since it doesn't exist.
18:07Let's talk to somebody who got it right.
18:09Taylor B.
18:10Oh, there's two Taylor B's?
18:13That's my wife.
18:14Oh, you're married.
18:16You're both named Taylor?
18:17Hell yeah.
18:18What?
18:19What?
18:19That was the pickup line, right?
18:21I messaged her out of the blue.
18:22I say, your name is Taylor.
18:23My name is Taylor.
18:24Kind of hungry.
18:25Let's take over the world together.
18:27And now we're taking over this world, and you're kind of standing in it, so.
18:30You married a total nut.
18:32I did, but he won me over.
18:34It took a little while, but we've been married five years now, so.
18:37You guys double the chances still of winning the big money.
18:40Cool.
18:41All right.
18:41We'll take it.
18:42Our prize pot now stands at $66,000.
18:48Good news.
18:50This next question will seem way easier if you make it to the other questions that follow it.
18:56This is the 35% question.
19:00What word will you get from solving this clue?
19:04Contestants, your time starts now.
19:06And what word will I get from solving this clue?
19:17Yeah, it can't always be about you guys.
19:30That is time.
19:32Let's see who got it right, and you know, who got it wrong.
19:34We lost two of you on that question, which means we've got 54 of you left, and two of
19:51you used your pass.
19:53Here's the answer.
19:55Flowers.
19:55The first letters of the words in the phrase spell out flowers.
19:59Let's talk to somebody who used their pass.
20:01Kurt.
20:02Kurt, hi.
20:03What do you do for work there, Kurt?
20:04I'm a stage magician, and I do, you know, I cut my wife in half.
20:07I hang from cranes, escape out of straight jackets, things like that.
20:09Do you want to show us a trick there?
20:11I'm a little scared.
20:12Yeah.
20:12So, the typical, you know, used cards, right?
20:15My favorite card trick takes a little too long, so instead, we'll just go from there.
20:21Wow.
20:22I feel like you're a witch.
20:25My wife says that.
20:27Oh, okay.
20:27Thank you so much, Kurt.
20:29All right.
20:29You're still in it.
20:30And let's see where we are with the prize pot now.
20:35$68,000.
20:37We're going through questions and contestants like toilet paper, which is an unfortunate way
20:42to refer to both of those things.
20:44But this is a tough game.
20:46More 1% Club after this.
20:52Welcome back to the 1% Club.
20:5654 contestants are still playing for the big money, and I'm still the host.
21:01I have a lot of dirt on the producers.
21:03I'll tell you about it later.
21:04Right now, there are 32 of you still with your past.
21:08This is one of the smartest groups we've ever had.
21:10So, all of you either can keep going and hope to make it to the 1% question and win up to
21:15$100,000, or you can take a guaranteed $1,000 right now and leave the show.
21:22Please make your decision now.
21:24Eight of you have decided to leave the show with your $1,000.
21:35Jordana, what made you make this decision?
21:37So, my whole goal coming here was to make it further than my brother-in-law, Reed.
21:42And I didn't realize how easy that was going to be.
21:45So, at this point, it's just the cherry on top, and I go home $1,000 richer and with bragging rights.
21:54So, wow.
21:56You made $1,000.
21:58Thanks for having me.
21:59All right.
22:00Let's continue the game.
22:01Here is the 30% question.
22:06How many different designs of floor tile were used to make this 16-tile pattern?
22:11Your time starts now.
22:13Also, honey, I think we have to fire the interior decorator.
22:25He has terrible taste.
22:37Your time is up.
22:39Let's see who has fallen prey to the 30% question.
22:42Good God.
22:58We lost 19 of you on that question, which means we have 27 of you left, and eight of you used your pass.
23:07And I was just bragging about you guys.
23:11Here we go.
23:14The answer is B, too.
23:16The pattern is made with just these two tile designs, rotated and repeated as needed.
23:23Let's talk to some of the losers.
23:26Jimmy, you playing a sad saxophone solo right now?
23:30So sad.
23:30You have a lot of tile in the houses you sell?
23:33Of all the floors that I've seen, all the LVP luxury vinyl plate floors I've seen, I couldn't have gotten this one.
23:40I mean, this is pretty ugly.
23:42A bunch of amoebas died.
23:43What happened?
23:44Amoebas.
23:46Thank you, Jimmy.
23:47No problem, man.
23:48Thank you, Joel.
23:49Our prize pot now stands at $82,000.
23:56Let's continue.
23:57Here now is the 25% question.
24:03Mike rearranged all the numbers except two on this clock.
24:07Based on that information, what time is it?
24:10Your time starts now.
24:19Wow.
24:20What the hell happened to Flava Flav?
24:21That's time.
24:37Let's see who answered correctly and who got it wrong.
24:39We lost 12 of you on that question, which means we've got 15 of you left and six of you used your pass.
25:01Let's see what the answer is.
25:0211.55.
25:05He rearranged all the numbers except for the number two.
25:09So the clock reads 11.55 as it would on any other clock.
25:14All right, let's talk to somebody who got it right.
25:17Karima.
25:17Hi.
25:18Karima, did you figure it out pretty fast?
25:20I actually wrote 11.50 at first and then deleted it and then wrote 11.55.
25:24Okay.
25:24What would you do with the money?
25:25I, like, have an addiction to chocolate, so I want to open my own Willy Wonka chocolate factory.
25:31Like a magical chocolate factory that has a river of chocolate that you can put a boat on.
25:36Big old waterfalls.
25:38And now one kid gets sucked up into the thing.
25:41All right, Karima, you're in the game along with 14 other people.
25:45Let's look at the prize pot.
25:48$88,000.
25:49We have 15 contestants going into the break, and depending on your cable or streaming package,
25:58anywhere from zero to 240 seconds of commercials when the 1% Club returns.
26:11Welcome back to the 1% Club.
26:13We're nearing the end of the show, which is why I look so much older to you.
26:17So, here's how the rest of this will play out.
26:20The contestants that make it the furthest will win a share of $10,000,
26:24or they can risk the money and take a shot at the 1% question for a chance at everything in the prize pot.
26:31Currently at $88,000.
26:36And that will be delivered to you in a burlap sack with a big dollar sign on it.
26:41If you still have your $1,000 left, you can still pay for a pass, but you can't use it on the 1% question.
26:49This is the 20% question.
26:54At my last party, someone thought it would be funny to make a bunch of Joel O shots.
27:00If each color of gelatin represents just one flavor, how many flavors of Joel O did they use to make these shots?
27:09Your time starts now.
27:11Unfortunately, the party was celebrating my one year of sobriety.
27:22Very awkward.
27:24Now I have to tell my lawyer to sue the makers of Joel O.
27:26That is time.
27:36Put down your Joel O shots and let's see who did not answer correctly.
27:42We lost four of you on that question, which means we have 11 of you left and none of you used your pass.
28:01Here's the answer.
28:02Six, red, green, blue, yellow, purple, and pink in the corner there.
28:09See, pink?
28:11And when you combine those together, that's what your vomit looks like after 18 Joel O shots.
28:17Let's talk to someone who didn't get all the colors, Andrew F.
28:23Andrew?
28:25Oh, you are so confident.
28:27I was, yeah.
28:29I overthought it.
28:31I was thinking like red and blue made purple.
28:33So I was thinking like primary colors.
28:36It's just the 0.5% club just wasn't made for this show.
28:39Yeah, the 20% club.
28:42Yeah.
28:43Do you drink a lot of Jell-O shots?
28:46No, I might start after this though.
28:47Do you drink at all?
28:48No, not really.
28:49You should start drinking.
28:50Thank you so much.
28:53You were close.
28:54Not really.
28:55All right, let's talk to somebody who got it right.
28:57Courtney.
28:57Hi.
28:58How did you figure it out?
28:59Well, I just started by saying the colors in my head.
29:02And then every time I got to a color that wasn't the red, green, blue pattern, then I added that color to my list.
29:07Oh, okay.
29:08And just kept going through the list.
29:09Just did it mathematically.
29:10Courtney, what do you do?
29:10I am a high school math teacher.
29:12And I'm actually here with two of my coworkers.
29:15Also high school math teachers.
29:16Mary over there.
29:18And David over here.
29:19And we are all still in.
29:20All right.
29:22Look at that.
29:23The power of education.
29:26Hey, yes.
29:27Do you guys cut loose sometimes?
29:29We played math trivia last week.
29:32Yeah.
29:33You played math trivia?
29:35Yeah.
29:35We came in fourth.
29:38Did you do some JOLO shots while you were playing?
29:40Something like that.
29:42Yep.
29:42And we lost our viewers.
29:43So this is a fascinating story.
29:47Okay.
29:47The prize pot is now a dizzying $89,000.
29:54A lofty amount.
29:56All right.
29:57This is your 15% question.
30:03Zora's birthday is on the second to last day of the year.
30:07And Lana's birthday is on the second day of the year.
30:10If today is Zora's birthday, how many days is it until Lana's birthday?
30:15Your time starts now.
30:17And do you think Lana would like some leftover JOLO shots?
30:25No.
30:26Your time is up.
30:42Let's see who answered correctly and who did not.
30:46We lost one of you on that question, which means we've got 10 of you left and nobody
31:01used their pass.
31:02I'm guessing the math teachers are still in this.
31:06And the answer is three.
31:09Zora's birthday is December 30th and Lana's birthday is January 2nd, which is three days
31:15later.
31:16Let's talk to Kat.
31:17Hi.
31:17Oh, so how did you figure out the answer?
31:20This is an argument that I have in my household all the time.
31:23And I am now proven right on national television.
31:26So thank you that we go from the date and then we count the days and that final day is included
31:30in the total.
31:31This is an argument with your children all the time?
31:33Yes.
31:34How old are they?
31:3510 and 6.
31:38I'm doing the math for when it airs.
31:41When do you think this is airing?
31:43Late summer.
31:44You're right.
31:45All right.
31:46I hope you get to the big money.
31:47Okay.
31:4910 contestants remain with a prize pot currently at still $89,000.
31:56Because the person who got out already used their pass, the prize pot remains the same.
32:01Wow.
32:01This game is getting intense.
32:03I need to go for a walk and clear my head.
32:05More 1% Club after the break.
32:11Welcome back to the 1% Club.
32:15We started with 100 contestants and now we only have 10 remaining.
32:20Who among them can go the distance and win both our entire prize pot and my hand in marriage?
32:25We're about to find out.
32:27The contestants that make it furthest in the game will win a share of $10,000.
32:32But if they're feeling brave, they can risk their share of the 10 grand and take on the
32:361% question for a chance to win everything in the prize pot, which is currently at $89,000.
32:44Yeah.
32:45But if anyone's going to win it, they need to survive our last three questions.
32:50Three of you still have a pass and you've got two questions left to use it.
32:54This is your 10% question.
32:59In the diagram seen below, which word is in the wrong place?
33:04Your time starts now.
33:05Your time is up.
33:19Let's see who is still in the game.
33:33We lost seven of you on that last question, which means we've got three of you left and
33:53two of you used your pass.
33:56Here's the answer.
33:57Civic.
33:58Civic is a member of all three circles, so it should be in the middle section with kayak.
34:04Let's talk to the only person who got it right.
34:07Karima.
34:11Karima.
34:11Walk us through how you did it.
34:14That was God.
34:16Oh.
34:17Thank you, God.
34:19Because I thought it was civic.
34:20I didn't see the V down there, so I thought it didn't go in the bottom circle.
34:25It was kind of wrong, but then you guessed right.
34:27Yeah, that's my life.
34:30God did really help you out.
34:33Okay.
34:33Karima, nicely done.
34:35There's somebody who didn't have God on their side.
34:37David.
34:38I can't believe I went out on a Venn diagram question.
34:41Yeah.
34:42Math teacher fail.
34:43Oh.
34:44Yeah, the other math teachers are still in it.
34:47They're in it to win it, though.
34:47I can tell.
34:48I do have a question, though.
34:49Do you have a question about the game or me, Joel?
34:52Both.
34:53Oh, all right.
34:53Let's see what happens.
34:54With about 10 seconds to go, I realized your head was blocking the Orzee.
34:59So next time, could you just get out of the way?
35:02Why don't...
35:02Wow.
35:04How about next time you look on your tablet?
35:07No, wait, what?
35:09Yeah.
35:09Oh.
35:12All right, little Miss Smarty Pants.
35:14That's fair.
35:15That's fair.
35:16As always, the $1,000 of everyone who got the question wrong or paid for a pass goes into
35:22the prize pot.
35:23And what is it now?
35:27$91,000.
35:29Can you see that?
35:31You can see the 91?
35:33It's not in the way or anything?
35:35Oh, it's up there, too.
35:35Okay.
35:36Karima, you still have your $1,000, which means if you pay for a pass on the next 5% question,
35:43you are guaranteed to go to the finale.
35:44If you don't pay for a pass and get the question right, you'll leave here with the $1,000 no
35:51matter what.
35:51Here is your 5% question.
35:58If A equals 25, B equals 24, C equals 23, and so on, what number do you get if you multiply
36:06all the letters of megahertz together?
36:09Your time starts now.
36:12That is time.
36:38Let's see who is still in the game.
36:41Blue light, do your thing.
36:52We lost one of you on that question, which means we've got two of you left.
36:57There they are, it is Courtney and Karima, and the answer to this, zero.
37:06The letters all have different values, but they are all ultimately multiplied by the last
37:12letter, Z, which equals zero, and any time you multiply by zero, you are left with zero.
37:19Let's put the $1,000 of anyone who got that wrong or used their pass into the prize pot,
37:25which brings our final total to $92,000.
37:32Congratulations, Karima and Courtney.
37:35After the break, they will decide whether to take on the 1% question, and I'll have to
37:40decide between chicken or pasta.
37:42It's the end of the show, and then my dinner when the 1% club returns.
37:47From 100 contestants to you two, you're about to take on the final question of the game.
38:04Get it right, and you will win up to $92,000 and become official members of the 1% club,
38:11which is like the Illuminati if they pick their members on a game show.
38:15But before we get to your final question, you need to make a decision.
38:20Either you can leave the show tonight and take your share of $10,000, which is...
38:27Do the math.
38:29$5,000, or you can risk it all on the 1% question.
38:34If you're right, you split everything in the prize pot.
38:38$92,000 with any other winners.
38:41If you're wrong, you leave with nothing.
38:43If only one of you gets the question right, then you can win the whole prize pot.
38:48This could be a $92,000 decision.
38:52Karima, Courtney, make your decision now.
38:55They're both going to answer the 1% question.
39:09Courtney and Karima, here is the 1% question.
39:20Without using the same color twice in the same sign,
39:24how many different configurations of equal signs can you make using just these four lines?
39:31Your time starts now.
39:32That is time, everyone.
39:58Lord, it is tense in here.
40:00All right, right now your answers are locked in and you can't change them,
40:05so we may as well ask you what you have put.
40:08Karima, let's start with you.
40:09What was your answer?
40:11Six.
40:12Your answer is six.
40:13Why do you think that?
40:14Because I put the red with the yellow, then the green, then the blue.
40:18So it's three.
40:19And then I put the yellow with the green and then the blue.
40:22So it's five.
40:23And then the green with the blue.
40:24So six.
40:25Okay, that's six.
40:27Courtney, what did you put?
40:28I said 12.
40:29How did you get that?
40:30The first half is exactly the same as Karima just described.
40:34Then I looked back and it said different configurations,
40:37which means all of those can be reversed also,
40:40because red-yellow would be different than yellow on top and red on the bottom.
40:44You're a math teacher, right?
40:45Yes.
40:46Okay, okay.
40:47We've heard your answers.
40:49Now it's time to find out if you are going to be joining the 1% club.
40:54Let's see the answer.
40:55For $92,000.
41:0612!
41:08All you need to figure out is how many times each color can appear on top of an equal sign.
41:15That number is three.
41:17So three times four colors gives you 12 possible combinations.
41:21Ladies and gentlemen, let's hear it for our winner, Courtney.
41:26Karima, you got so close.
41:29Thank you for being here.
41:31Congratulations, Courtney.
41:32You are walking out of here with $92,000.
41:35You are officially a member of the 1% club.
41:39We will see you next time.
41:41Let's hear it for Courtney, everybody.
41:44Nicely done.
41:45Good job.
41:47$93,000.
41:48You did it.
41:54Tempers flare and betrayal.
