00:00for nearly a decade the garden rescue team have made dreams come true for hundreds of garden
00:09owners across the UK oh wow it's absolutely stunning thank you so much thank you very much
00:26no matter the challenge it's just coming down a little harder the rain if this weather keeps on
00:32as it is we're not going to have any of this here and no matter the garden I tell you what flow it's
00:38a little bit smaller than I thought we've got the job done that's brilliant but the one question I
00:44always get asked is what happens to the gardens after we leave well now wow are we blooming it
00:54it's my turn to be amazed that's you that's grown into a bar I'm going back been a long time
01:01to my favorite garden rescues five years five years including some of our very first to find out what
01:17happened we should have called it the day after we packed up our spades I'm very excited to see the
01:24garden it has gone huge we've picked the perfect day to show you around the sun is shining the
01:31gardens looking beautiful it's fabulous this time in the Cotswolds hello Charlotte Grigg I see for
01:44myself how a blank canvas has been replaced with a mouthwatering country garden retreat we've had lots
01:51and lots of fun growing potatoes among two I don't know about you but whenever I've grown veg with
01:57children they actually eat those ones yeah catch up with a garden in Birmingham that needed some major
02:06TLC do you still love the garden yeah do you it's just been amazing you know we can't thank the team
02:12enough really it's just for so much and I head to Milton Keynes to discover what's happened to a garden
02:20we transformed six years ago you've done a fantastic job looking after it Charlie this is a dream garden for
02:27us now over the years the garden rescue team been lucky enough to build gardens in some of the prettiest
02:37parts of Britain one of my favorites was in the Cotswolds where the rich brothers and Arat found
02:44themselves four years ago this is Charlotte and Greg's garden in Morton in Marsh in the Cotswolds their
02:52daughter winter their son Albert and shadow the dog now the whole family relocated recently from Dubai
02:58to a beautiful part of the world what they're looking for is to have a country cottage garden one
03:04that is typical of the Cotswolds area Charlotte and Greg's garden was a complete blank canvas this is our
03:12garden we have a lot of green space a beautiful wall that goes all the way around it red brick wall a
03:21lot of grass and it's waiting to come alive the couple had four thousand five hundred pounds to
03:29spend and had already built a vegetable patch it's been brilliant isn't it yeah it's been a lovely
03:35summer of creating some beautiful fresh produce so Arat proposed a design that moved their grow your
03:41own patch to a more convenient spot so I've brought it nearer to the house and given you a raised bed for
03:47you to be able to have your herbs and vegetables this patio area has been extended so that you've
03:53got enough sitting area for a table and your sofa I love that but those cheeky rich brothers had a
04:00trick up their sleeves we know that you wanted to have a Cotswold country garden somewhere that had a
04:07nice bit of formality but also some informality through the plants we wanted to create a bit more of an
04:13informal atmosphere so that's why we've got this nice bound gravel on the floor the gravel leads to
04:17the evening bar area so it's going to be an elevated bar you can have some stools there and it's
04:24somewhere you can just relax and enjoy the last little bit of sun it just have a bar in our garden
04:29it's going to be so cool yeah and so picking a winner was actually quite straightforward and the winner
04:35winner is the rich brothers really just just fabulous we're really excited
04:43that was the easy part face we've got to do a bit of preparation uh first and then all hands on oak
04:55with nothing to clear from the garden there was plenty to bring in starting with 500 pounds worth of
05:02oak for the bar pergola and raised beds I'm just putting the basic structure of the bar together
05:13as well as some new patio to lay for Kyle the tricky thing is when when trying to do this is
05:20match the existing slabs but the boys have actually done a really nice job with these and a pergola to
05:25get up now the the timbers here have been screwed together keep them nice and firm but as you can see
05:31gruff's just putting in little oak plugs all that's doing is going in the hole of the screw went in
05:36but it's just covering the screw head so when you look at it it looks as if you're using almost the
05:41traditional way of building where it's no joints and then the oak pegs that go through to hold it
05:45next the planting started to take shape now Greg and Charlotte really like the idea of having quite a
05:53romantic almost quite country garden now when you think of that you think of perhaps roses and lavender
06:01so they were the two plants that we definitely wanted to filter into these planting beds
06:12the trees are doing a really important job in this garden they're controlling it but they're not
06:16dominating it inside the pergola we've got an espalliated apple tree lots of control going
06:22on there it's not taking up much space at all but it's really utilizing this warm south facing wall
06:28and finally thanks to loads of perennials grasses and evergreen hedges Greg and Charlotte's new garden
06:36was ready for them to see what had been a vast open space was now more like an established old country
06:47garden three two one open your eyes oh my gosh wow I'm actually speechless oh look at that it's so
06:59beautiful thank you oh thank you so much you clever guys amazing I'm never short of words I'm never short of words
07:09wow from that boring nothingness oh my goodness me I mean wonderful there's so much in the garden
07:17oh yeah there's so much in the garden oh yeah lots of plants in the garden things like rose
07:29lavender rosemary thank you so much should we go and have a little look I'd love to nice yeah
07:36leave the way guys wonder okay we've got the wisteria on this side and a rose on that side so you can
07:41train it up and around and it'll kind of cascade down it's a dream come true it was a vision wanting
07:47you here and to have it realized today is it's so beautiful Greg and Charlotte loved the garden four
07:54years ago but what I want to know is has the love blossomed into their dream space hello Charlotte
08:01Greg morning good morning it's a pleasure to see you welcome to Morton in Marsh yes now I have to say
08:09I saw the program and Harry and David really nailed that Cotswoldy theme to the garden didn't they
08:17oh absolutely we're absolutely thrilled with it we were taken back at the time and and it's even better
08:23now in four years Greg and Charlotte's garden has undergone a dramatic change when we left the
08:31planting in the newly laid patio area was yet to mature now the beds are blooming
08:38back then the newly raised veg patch was just soil now fresh fruit and veg is popping up for the family to
08:48enjoy oh I can see the veg we've got a bit smaller scale this year but obviously four years of sort
08:57of harvesting and production and the children being very involved as well we've had lots and lots of fun
09:02growing potatoes of mange too and tomatoes tomatoes sweet corn yeah that's fantastic it's really good for
09:11the children as well you know they learn about where their food comes from and growing it I don't know
09:16about you but whenever I've grown veg with children they actually eat those ones yeah it's true when
09:22they're so involved absolutely when we had finished the pergola and its new surrounding plants were still
09:29young now the hedges have flourished along with the new trees so the pergola is it's a nice space and
09:38is that the apple tree espaliered on the wall yes it is and we've had some lovely harvest from that as
09:45well Greg's become I wouldn't say an expert become quite good at pruning it haven't you yes it's grown
09:52very vigorously though this year so I might need a few tips on that that'll be all that rain we've had
09:56so what you'll need to do this year is you see all those long wispy bits that have come out yes you
10:03need to summer prune and take those back by two-thirds right okay just take those back so it keeps the
10:09shape and then you build up these fruiting spurs and it it will stop a lot of that excess growth so
10:15it all goes into the fruit rather than into making more branches yes okay that's good because it looks
10:21very green but we need a bit more fruit this season four years ago the planting in the center of the
10:29garden was yet to mature now the perennials and grasses have grown so much it feels more like an
10:35established old country garden this has been really exceptional and has just taken really well
10:41it changes every year though some of the plants have kind of come back some don't we found the
10:47grass is really a quite vigorous yeah and so have moved a couple of them out so grass is you know that
10:53once they get going they can really get going so it's quite fine to dig them up and split them
10:58through and as with all sort of herbaceous type plants when you split them through you know you
11:06want to save the younger bits and chuck the older bits because the younger bits are going to be the
11:12nice healthier vigorous plants so you could split them through no problem at all but with your perennials
11:18you find some perennials are shorter lived and some are longer lived yeah that's part of the garden just
11:24developing really so we are so over the moon that we had garden rescue it was an absolute game changer
11:36to us being here and feeling settled here and creating this amazing space we're thrilled we had
11:42garden rescue come and designed the garden and four years on it really has delivered what I love about it
11:49is you've got that formality with the informality and they just contrast and such lovely spaces for
11:57you to use as a family absolutely
11:59good on you well done the garden looks fantastic I hope I've been able to help you out with a couple
12:09of things and keep up the good work oh thank you so much Charlie lovely to see you thank you thank you
12:17very much we appreciate so much see you another five years okay I'm loving how Greg and Charlotte's
12:24garden turned out but my next garden revisit was a very different challenge I'm back in a sunny Milton
12:36Keynes where six years ago Vinnie and Renute's garden was transformed by the Rich Brothers
12:42garden was very plain and patio area was uneven all the slabs were coming off and the drainage area
12:53had damage so it was a risk as well we were hardly using the garden basically it was like a dead square
13:00piece very dull and very boring they both enjoy gardening but a lack of time meant the couple needed help
13:09and that's where Harry David and I came in what what would you like from the garden the only thing
13:16which probably we need a lot of color in this garden you is that what you would like more color in the
13:21garden yes because in the interior of my house I have used a lot of colors and color brings happiness to
13:29your life it makes you smile doesn't it I mean I see that you've got lots of seats around the garden
13:34and places to relax entertainment is key for us we we do lots and lots of barbecue during summer and we
13:42want our friends family to enjoy he is very popular among our friends and family for his barbecue which we
13:50thought we should reflected more seating space and maybe some herbs and vegetables in the garden oh that
13:57would be fantastic yeah yeah picking up my own mint if I'm making my hito it has to it has to go the
14:08food has to go the drink and the food has to go together of your Hindus and Hinduism is all about love
14:16peace peace with nature and I think a vibrant garden is a true reflection of what we believe they do also
14:25like the idea of a sort of meditation area oh so a nice lively side of the garden then also a nice
14:31relaxing quiet side of the garden as well that's the one it looks like a pretty large garden and
14:36there's not that much in it so what's the budget budget's 3,000 okay it's all right yeah you know so
14:43there's a lot of work there but three grand can go quite far the boys and I wasted no time coming up
14:49with our designs so your patio area down here I've just rearranged it leveled it made it more usable but
14:58the main entertainment area is this new patio further up the garden and then coming down here
15:05an ornate pathway with lots of herbs running through it so as you tread on them you'll get
15:11that scent leading to this area here where you can sit and meditate my design took a more traditional
15:19approach while Harry and David's design was more contemporary what we thought would be very necessary
15:25in the garden is to have a larger patio area at the moment it's really thin small and most of it's trip
15:30hazard so what we'd like to do is remove all of that and then repave it with a nice natural stone
15:37but large enough that you can have a lovely big family table there nice way to incorporate color
15:42into the garden also to provide more seating for when you have people around is to actually put
15:47these walls into a garden there's reasons for the colors we've chosen so this burnt orange burnt yellow
15:53is turmeric and then we want to go for this kind of purpley dark purpley blue is juniper and then it's
15:59saffron yeah and then the plants that we've got running through here are gonna be nice and vibrant and
16:04colorful as well you said you like to meditate it creates this lovely spot just sitting amongst the
16:10shrubs in this lovely natural space where you can sit relax and it's enjoy a slightly more tranquil side
16:15of the garden both our designs created spaces to entertain and to relax for Vinnie and Renouk choosing
16:23between the two wasn't easy when we saw both designs in fact both design amazing amazing we both were
16:30like you know we wanted both but there was very little between two designs and in fact it was very
16:38difficult for us yes but a decision had to be made you're making it difficult for us yeah I'm gonna
16:45tell us I'm really nervous about this but yeah we picked up Rich Brothers and not Charlie there was
16:56very subtle difference in Charlie's design the entertainment area was on the back side of the
17:02house and we wanted something which is closer to the house so that there is cooking happening in the
17:09kitchen and you're straight going to the garden and so the food so maybe we thought we were finding out
17:14reasons to choose a design and that was one of the reason it was then up to the team to bring David
17:21and Harry's design to life and with the entertainment space top of the wish list we needed to get cracking
17:27two big problems here are the patio paving and that grass and I tell you guys that is rock hard all
17:36coming up with a huge area of patio and lawn to dig out it was a back-breaking start to the project but
17:47with the new slabs going down the summer house got a facelift and work began on the rich brothers walls
17:56David and Harry and I couldn't wait to get involved too wow look at this hey well the patio looks
18:06incredible the team have done a fantastic job laying this lovely dark limestone and it's a far cry from
18:12what was here before David got to work on these colored walls tell you what this rendering jobs easier
18:19than it looks isn't it wow it's therapeutic isn't it it's almost like baking a cake I feel we just
18:24put it on the icing I do love a bit of decoration whilst I took inspiration from some bamboo I found in the
18:32garden to concoct an off-plan mini bar for Vinay so to make the bar look a little bit more bar-like
18:40I'm using Vinay and Renouk's bamboo they've got a great big clump of bamboo in the corner of the garden
18:48which is fantastic looks great but of course it's also useful for getting canes
18:55with Harry busy making a bespoke table it was time for the planting
19:05it was really key that this garden was full of life and full of colour and that's one of the reasons
19:10that we're using this gorgeous rowan or mountain ash now it's a small tree so it's not going to
19:16dominate this space but what it will do is add loads of colour we've got things like hazel which has a
19:31lovely golden tone which comes in early we've also got cornice which again has a lovely autumn colour and
19:37is really well known for its winter form and colour through the stems but you've also got something
19:42like this rose tottering by gently it's lovely soft yellow tone but really this garden is all about
19:47linking in with the bold colours of the wall with the beautiful change in colour in through the shrubs
19:54with the gravel paths laid for the meditation zone of the garden there was just time for some spiritual
20:00touches before vinnie and renouk got a first look three two one open your eyes
20:07your eyes oh my god wow this is awesome yes come on this is that's good then i take it look at that
20:21nice oh my god it's totally changed yeah it's absolutely amazing we were really shocked and
20:31uh we didn't expect uh that it's going to turn out to be so beautiful what had been a large empty
20:40square of garden was now a space fit for entertaining and meditation with a large patio complete with bespoke
20:49table and colourful seating walls and a quiet more reflective area with gentle planting and revamped summer
20:57hands i have not even imagined that this would be the change oh really i have not imagined i've seen
21:05the pictures i've shown shown us the design and we knew there would be some walls we knew well there
21:13would be a quiet place there oh but charlie's also been really busy she's built a beautiful mojito bar
21:21that's beautiful because she has used in fact bamboos from yeah it's all recycled here i know i know
21:27now where i can find vinnie very very clever yes beautiful it's amazing everything we wanted and it's
21:35it's fantastic i can just sum it up in one word that's fantastic that was six years ago and i'm keen
21:42to see for myself what's changed we are excited to show our garden to charlie but at the same time we are
21:49also nervous because we did not select her design here we go
22:01hello
22:08now i know it wasn't my garden because you chose the rich brothers i'll let yours
22:12so far but i'm very excited to see the garden off we go oh this is exciting oh my goodness
22:23ranoke it's changed so much it has look at this meadow oh it's absolutely gorgeous it's so colorful
22:32even though we're what where are we we're sort of mid-july and it's still looking absolutely gorgeous
22:38what looked different back then is even more different now this garden basically it's a retreat
22:47for me when you know hustle bustle and it's just so peaceful here and i just find it so good so the
22:55whole thing was having a big socializing area but then also somewhere that you could just chill this is
23:00great bini which is your favorite part of the garden i would say bar after after having a few
23:09drinks next day if you want to calm your mind yeah meditation meditation meditation that was over there
23:16yeah now the heart was already there the summer house yes our house was there yeah it wasn't that
23:22color i changed the color we just wanted to camouflage with everything with the garden so i can't wait to
23:29explore six years ago top of the wish list was a proper entertaining space and harry and david
23:36certainly delivered i'm excited to see how it looks now you still got harry's bench and seats yeah
23:44wasn't this color was it this was natural color okay we painted green painted green to match with the
23:51summer house the summer house right okay i remember when you walked out because this area here was defined
23:58by the walls remind me of the colors again they were juniper saffron turmeric turmeric turmeric and it
24:06is all in sync with with the nature yeah the colors and it really does define this socializing area
24:15i know socializing was a really big thing for you wasn't it it is because like the month of august in
24:22this space itself in this garden we accumulated about 80 to 90 people so this place was buzzing
24:29whenever we have got parties of friends coming over we prefer outside and our friends also like
24:35they say we don't want to sit in we want to go out six years on and the entertainment area is proving
24:42its worth but what about the rest of the garden i mean look at it i said you know give it a year and
24:49this meadow will be up to almost waist height and it is look fantastic and what i love are the trees
24:56in this garden people get very nervous about putting trees in a small garden but look it's fantastic
25:01dappled shade because sometimes you want to sit in the shade the berries and of course those flower in
25:07the spring so for the wildlife and also it's very natural and i love the way it changes the color with
25:14the season and i have to say vinay this is great so you've this dogwood you've you've crown lifted it
25:20so you've got the texture of the semes nice snail there cute little snail but you've still got the
25:26canopy that just adds height and when you add height to a garden like this it makes the garden feel bigger
25:32bigger yes i mean it is amazing coming back six years later i mean they have grown and shot up so much
25:39because they were sort of this little height weren't they look at this it is like a woodland walk
25:46isn't it yeah so which plants do you like here this purple one here right so this is it's a hardy
25:51geranium so it's more of an ornamental but you can actually plant it into the meadow turf because it
25:56will take being chopped down and it flowers and flowers and it's also known as crane's bill because
26:02if you look at the seed head it looks like the bill of a crane a bird yeah so it's gorgeous isn't it
26:10i i i like this yeah and the combination of purple and yellow makes it very special yeah it does looks
26:16gorgeous and you've got two different yellows there you've got saint john's wort which is native and
26:20then that's the bird's foot trefoil this is going to my area now i was responsible for this bit of the
26:29garden wasn't i what was originally designed to be the meditation area of the garden has kept its
26:36promise as a place to unwind this garden gives us love peace very close to the nature and
26:45mainly peace of mind actually where's my bar gone we have moved the bar because here we could do two
26:53or three in the bar all right and we have moved to new place where we can have 20 or 30 okay so the
26:59bar poo is very popular yes i thought you'd got rid of it but then but it has got a new color a new
27:05color as well yes so i do remember this area was going to be the the quiet zone so do you use this area
27:11for meditation this is my favorite place in the morning i come here i have my tea and then i do
27:17meditation and my breathing exercise like can you listen to the birds chirping now so the early
27:23morning it's even more and it just sets you up for the day doesn't it even when it rains or when it's
27:29cold uh because we go into our summer house there if it's really open the door just surrounded by nature
27:37what could be better absolutely maybe a mojito six years ago i had a hoop designing a mini bar for
27:46vinay i can't wait to see how it looks now well there is the bar i have to say i mean it's looking
27:53good lack of mint there vinay all mint used for mojitos okay okay perhaps we can shush that up
28:00it's amazing you know that's basically just a palette that we upcycled but very practical do you
28:07use it a lot very practical and it can cater to many people my bar's certainly getting good use but it
28:13could do with a spot of tlc pop that down there finney oh vinney this rose doesn't look too happy
28:22we are struggling with this rose is it because it is in the shade of the bar it won't be the shade
28:27what i can see is the obvious sort of problem is that the soil has eroded from around the roots so
28:35it's struggling like these roots are exposed come the autumn what i would suggest is that you cut it back
28:41hard and just replant it sort of maybe somewhere else to the side and plant it so that the soil is
28:48at this level okay so you can see these are all the roots and all you need to do with these is just pick
28:54off the sort of most diseased leaves and don't put them in the compost put them in your green bin
29:00yeah then dispose of them so here vinnie have a leaf for the bin back to the bar and some new
29:07plants to add to the basics i potted six years ago right finney here you go i've got some mint
29:13to go in here but i thought because you like your cocktails and you like making them look pretty yes
29:19i do so these are scented geraniums so you squish the leaves
29:27lemon and real i can smell lemon citrus citrus and this one is the same as well
29:32so i'm going to get you to put them in the pots you can use the petals to dress the drinks with
29:37but they're not hardy so come the winter time you need to move them either very close to the house so
29:44they're out of the rain but protected or you can move them in onto the windowsill to keep them going and
29:50you can tip them back and they're really easy to take cuttings off as well so if you pop those up
29:55hopefully you'll keep those going for many years yes look at that you've done that before yeah so
30:01recycling the compost so remind me vinnie what is in a majita made of mint uh sugar lemon and of course
30:11rum rum so i've got some mint to replace your other one and the good thing about putting mint in a
30:17container is it keeps it under control because if you plant it in the garden it can really take off
30:24channe how does this that's that's fine so that's good yeah that's fine you've got a nice
30:30gap between the top of the soil and the top of the pot so that's ideal so that's that one done
30:39now vinay's gone off to get all the gear ready because he's going to make me
30:43a mojito or show me how to do it so he's getting all his bits and bobs together so i'm going to
30:48plant up the planter with a few extra things so i want it to be a bit of a surprise for him so we've
30:54got some mints this one is chocolate mint so it's got a more purple tinge to it as part from the mints
31:01i've also got apple mint which is just the most loveliest oh lovely lovely but then i wanted to give
31:09him a couple of things that he can use to dress the cocktails with as well so we've got dianthus
31:16they've got the smell of cloves to them and you can use the petals to dress salads or go in fruit
31:22salads or of course in cocktails and you literally just pluck the petals off and use those and then
31:31because vinnie really likes that yellow orange color i've got him a calendula and you can use
31:37the petals again to dress drinks and salads there you go look at that revitalized and all zhuzhed up ready
31:46for ranuk and vinay's next party it's just time for a quick cocktail lesson for me
31:54wow this is amazing a lot of colors yeah and a lot of herbs now yeah so show us your cocktail making
32:01skills and skills every night so let's try with new herbs pick the tops out there you go you smell that
32:08beautiful fantastic fresh as
32:15most important ingredient big slug of white plum oh that's a lot then i shake it
32:22my new decorative flowers are being put straight to use look at that well my oh my cheers well cheers
32:41vinnie and ranuk's garden has been on quite a journey from the square and unloved plot we first took on
32:48to the vibrant entertainment spot and peaceful meditation space we built and now six years later
32:57it's really come into its own i have to say guys i mean i can see why you love the garden it is so
33:03tranquil so much wildlife and the color and the scent you've done a fantastic job looking after it thank
33:11you thank you thank you to you charlie this is a dream garden for us now i've just about got over
33:17the fact that you picked harry and david
33:27across the years we've created many produce growing plots it's incredible look at the chilies
33:32the peppers is that basil what we've done is we've planted a mix of edibles such as strawberries
33:38mint it's everything i need and water-filled retreats for those in need of a sanctuary on a hot
33:44day i can imagine getting my feet up in there yeah i can do that too in which to unwind just look
33:50at everything around here my final garden was created with relaxation and produce in mind
33:57wow lots of paving lots of paint i mean little signs of green life yeah strawberries mint yeah
34:04five years ago ara and i visited sharina and her husband abu in birmingham
34:10they were frustrated by their first ever gardens lack of well garden
34:17the garden is just slabs not very pretty to look at um no interest at all that's one thing we're not
34:25proud of our garden at the moment it is that typical concrete garden you certainly wouldn't be relaxing
34:31in this space since i've come to this country which is roughly 1990 and all the homes i've lived
34:37in um did not have a garden so now we've we have got a garden i just can't get the time to do anything
34:45with it sharina and abu were desperate for help so it's a lovely big garden and somebody's into a bit of
34:54gardening yeah yeah that would be me yeah so um it's just me i like cooking so i enjoy vegetables
35:00and herbs i come from bangladesh and over there we have a lot of fruit trees but more of exotic foods
35:09so you've got mango papaya um i know birmingham is very exotic but i'm afraid we won't be able to grow
35:16those things but okay there's no reason why we can't have apple cherries maybe peach so fruit trees
35:23are a definite for you then in the garden um yeah yeah yeah yeah maybe a bit of water features oh a
35:29bit of water as well you want a little bit of everything don't you yeah yeah the couple trusted
35:35my design to deliver a garden for relaxation and produce with its large and raised veg beds
35:44a pergola to relax in and a water feature
35:51let's try it i created a patio and pergola to dominate the main central space
36:00but the main feature for abu and for me is this raised pond it's great perching height and i know
36:07it's breeze block at the moment but all we're going to do is clad it in the paving to give
36:12and quite a modern sleek feel and then this will all be lovely and shady we've gone for these gorgeous
36:20mild steel panels and what i'm going to do is not only have them up on the roof we're having them on
36:26the sides so this will make this area very private and intimate for abu and sharina
36:33while the team worked their magic with the detailing on the pond
36:42harrett and i filled the space with fruit trees and veg
36:47got red apple here cherry here and then we've got damsons over there so just getting the herbs and some
36:54of the veg into the beds i think it was a nice idea to anchor it with the crab apple but we've got the
36:59vietnamese coriander as well as just you know our ordinary uh coriander so that would be a really nice
37:05touch go swimming fishies with fish added to the pond the garden was ready to show sharina and abu
37:15do you want to open your eyes inshallah wow oh my god oh my god it's so amazing oh it looks like a show garden
37:34the once grey concrete garden was now full of produce and life a perfect urban retreat
37:42you've got your raised bed full of vegetables and herbs oh i can show off my garden that's
37:54that's all that we finally got a garden yeah well you've never had a garden i've never had a garden
38:00but what do you think of the pergola i love the fantastic i love it i love the um metal work
38:07it's sort of quite modern but it is modern yeah traditional at the same time that's what i like
38:11yeah that's what we wanted then yeah your raised fish belt feel like taking a dip in this weather
38:16oh my god yes you brought the fish here yeah thank you you know we just don't know how to thank you
38:28enough yeah it's it is it just looks amazing oh my god it looks so good and then we wander on down to
38:36the other end of the garden which is all the orchard fruits we've got a red apple and a damson because i
38:42know abu you said the red and the green i like my fruits yeah five a day
38:51five years on sharina and abu are still in birmingham and their garden has transformed
38:59the young planting has matured and sharina and abu are even more content with their space
39:05do you still love the garden yeah do you i love it yeah i mean we've had it for a couple of years now
39:13and we've just got so much joy out of it haven't we the garden has given us a lot it's been like our
39:20sanctuary when we had the garden done the following year we both were working from home so it was it was
39:28like a godsend it was calming we were able to reflect it's just been amazing
39:41this garden went from concrete car park to urban sanctuary
39:47and now it's grown planting like the apple tree is even more productive than ever it was really
39:54quite small wasn't it it's gone quite big and it produces quite a lot of apple more than that we can
39:59eat you can see like a lot on there now we're gonna have to pick some out so they can get quite big
40:04yeah neighbors will be happy it's got quite a lot of apple this year so they'll be happy when you take
40:09them around yeah yeah garden rescue has started a newfound passion for both of us we're keen gardeners so
40:18every spring every winter we we just keep on top of it and just make sure we maintain it um and i think
40:25that's probably why it's thriving as well we just learnt along the way but now there's more to this garden
40:31than the plants and trees we brought in abu and sharina have been busy they've introduced their own
40:39planting like the asa tree and gooseberry and then we've got the little daisies we get a lot of color
40:46throughout the season and abu's been busy with the wood the team left behind at the pond area
40:54this is your favorite part of the garden isn't it the pond yeah i i i enjoy seeing yeah watch the
40:59fish well you can see here because you built this bench and the bench over there and it's nice for me
41:06because then it's nice and enclosed so i can sit here enjoy the fish we've added in little cozy
41:13areas little nooks so it's nice for us to come out sit down it's inviting and we've still got the
41:20fish in the pond and that was a nice surprise for both of us so they're still there they're still
41:25thriving to be fair you do look after the fish in the pond so so that's your contribution to the garden
41:31it is it is abu's introduced shelving at the potting station too
41:36while sharina's added finishing touches to the pergola they were meant to rust weren't they and
41:47we left it for the first year and then i didn't like it so i just painted it um back to its original
41:54color and it looks much better we let it rust on the top which looks nice so we get a bit of both
42:00finding produce as well as peace was the reason the couple initially wanted their garden rescued
42:09and the produce area is thriving so we've got the original crab apple tree that charlie planted and
42:16look you can see so many on there and then we've still got the strawberries from what charlie left
42:21behind so we get a lot of strawberries started doing some spinach as well haven't you yeah this year
42:26we've put some swiss chard in we made a spinach curry it was very nice actually well that's that's the
42:33difference between shop-bought spinach and homegrown spinach yeah we're always interchanging the vegetable
42:39patch so we every year we're doing something new when we pick our own vegetables i mean you can
42:44tell that it tastes better than what you get from the shops because it's just fresh isn't it
42:48it brings satisfaction to the cooking and to know that it's come from your own garden
42:58it's just been amazing you know we can't thank the team enough really yeah it's just bought so much
43:06thank you garden rescue it's been great to see the gardens we built looking better than ever
43:13but the joy for me is discovering how the owners have come to love them it's not just a garden that
43:19that was built for them it's their garden now
43:36so
43:49so
43:55you
