Investigation launched over alleged incident at Cairns Childcare centre

Queensland police are investigating an incident at a Cairns Childcare Centre, where a female staff member is alleged to have assaulted a young child.

00:00The alleged incident is reported to have occurred in a Mayfield child care centre in White Rock last week.

00:08Police have confirmed they are investigating the alleged assault where a young child is reported to have sustained minor injuries.

00:15The centre confirmed to the ABC in a statement they stood down an educator on Thursday when they were notified of the incident.

00:23The next day they say they interviewed the individual and then terminated their employment.

00:27They say they also notified relevant authorities and are working with police,

00:32and say yesterday they reached out to the child's family to offer support.
