00:30Murder. Mystery.
00:36The macabre.
00:39What is it about a hard-boiled detective, a femme fatale,
00:44and the cold steel of a gun that keeps our bedside lamps burning into the wee hours of the morning?
00:51However the spell is cast, tonight we honor a master of the form
00:56and celebrate the launch of Stormfall.
01:00Call me when you're ready to wash that off.
01:02The stunning conclusion to his best-selling Derek Storm mystery series,
01:09ladies and gentlemen, the master of the macabre, Rick Castle.
01:15Oh my gosh!
01:15Thank you!
01:18Thank you!
01:28Thank you!
01:29Just like this!
01:47Who are you?
01:51Allison Tisdale, 24, grad student at NYU.
01:55Part of the social work program.
01:57Nice place for a social worker.
01:59Daddy's money.
02:00Neighbors called to complain about the music
02:02when she didn't answer they had the super check on.
02:04No signs of struggle.
02:09He knew her.
02:10Even bought her flowers.
02:11He says romance is dead.
02:13I do. Every Saturday night.
02:15A little lipstick wouldn't hurt.
02:17I'm just saying.
02:19So what'd he give her besides roses?
02:22Two shots to the chest.
02:24Small caliber.
02:27Does this look familiar to anyone?
02:33No.
02:34But I'm not the one with the thing for freaky ones.
02:37Just give me a jackshot jail over Bill so I can get my collar and go...
02:40Oh, but the freaky ones require more.
02:43They reveal more.
02:44Look at how he left her.
02:46Covered.
02:47Modestly.
02:48So?
02:49So, despite all of the effort, all of the preparation, you won't find any evidence of sexual abuse.
02:55You really get that from just this?
02:57This.
02:58Plus, I've seen this before.
02:59You've seen it before?
03:00Where?
03:01Roses on her body.
03:02Sunflowers on her eyes.
03:04Don't you guys read?
03:07What kind of idiot kills off his best-selling main character?
03:08Are you asking as my blood-sucking publisher or as my blood-sucking ex-wife?
03:09Oh, is that what you're doing?
03:10Penishing me by killing the golden goose?
03:11Oh, come on.
03:12I may be petty and short-sighted, but I'm not that petty and short-sighted.
03:13Really?
03:14Then why?
03:15Writing Derek is to be fun.
03:16It sounds like work.
03:17God forbid you should work.
03:18I mean, you could have retired him.
03:19You could have crippled him.
03:20You could have had him join the friggin' circus.
03:21But no.
03:22You had to put a bullet through his head.
03:23Yeah.
03:24Real messy, too.
03:25Big exit.
03:26Big exit.
03:27Big exit.
03:28Big exit, one.
03:29I'm not a kid.
03:30I'm not a kid.
03:31I'm not a kid.
03:32I'm a kid.
03:33I'm a kid.
03:34I'm a kid.
03:35I'm a kid.
03:36I'm a kid.
03:37I'm a kid.
03:38I'm a kid.
03:39I'm a kid.
03:40I'm a kid.
03:41I'm a kid.
03:42I'm a kid.
03:43Don't worry.
03:44Derek Storm is not the golden goose here.
03:46I am.
03:47I wrote half a dozen bestsellers before him.
03:49What makes you think I'm gonna stop now?
03:50Oh, I don't know.
03:51The fact the new book was due nine weeks ago?
03:53You can't rush genius.
03:54Genius, Richard?
03:55Try blockage.
03:56I heard you haven't written in months.
03:59That's ridiculous.
04:01My sources are very reliable.
04:02Well, they're wrong.
04:03They better be.
04:04If I don't have a new manuscript on my desk in the next three weeks,
04:07Black Pawn is prepared to demand the return of your advance.
04:10You wouldn't dare.
04:11Try me.
04:12Try me.
04:13Just try me.
04:15You know, I already returned that advance.
04:17I spent it divorcing you.
04:23Really, dollface?
04:25Who does homework at a party?
04:26I have a test next week.
04:27So do I.
04:28Live a function.
04:29Don't see me studying.
04:31All right.
04:32Give me a hit of the bubbly.
04:33Make that, too?
04:34Hey, kiddo.
04:35Sales must be slipping.
04:36They're only serving the soft stuff.
04:39Hey, Dad.
04:40Hey, sweetie.
04:41So, mother.
04:42Shh, shh, shh.
04:43Not so loud.
04:44I'm still hoping to get lucky.
04:45Did you tell Gina I was having trouble writing?
04:47Oh, I told her nothing of the sort.
04:49I...
04:52I may have said something about spending your days woping in your underwear, waiting for post-time at Belmont, but hey, you're an artist. It's expected.
05:00We had a deal.
05:01I let you live with us, but you don't talk about my work.
05:04What's to talk about?
05:05You haven't done any since I moved in.
05:06I don't.
05:07Well, he hasn't.
05:08Whatever I have and haven't done, I would just appreciate it if you wouldn't share it with my ex-wife.
05:13Oh, what's the big deal?
05:15Hang on, sweetie.
05:16I just got a hit on my radar.
05:18Bingo.
05:19No ring.
05:20Stand back, kids.
05:21Mama's going fishing.
05:23You should have me committed.
05:26For what?
05:27Letting her move in?
05:28I think it's sweet.
05:29Won't be when I strangle her.
05:32You know I'm only 15, right?
05:34You're an old soul.
05:35Yeah, well, me and my soul can wait.
05:38When I was your age.
05:40I can't tell that story.
05:41That's wildly inappropriate, which oddly is my point.
05:44Don't you want to have wildly inappropriate stories that you can't tell your children?
05:47I think even if it was for the both of us.
05:49Life should be an adventure.
05:50You want to know why I killed Derek?
05:52There were no more surprises.
05:54I knew exactly what was going to happen every moment of every scene.
05:57It's just like these parties that become so predictable.
06:00I'm your biggest fan.
06:02Where do you get your ideas?
06:03In the ever popular, will you sign my chest?
06:06That one I don't mind so much.
06:07Yeah, well, FYI, I do.
06:09Just once, I'd like someone to come up to me and say something new.
06:12Mr. Castle?
06:14Where would you like it?
06:16Detective Kate Beckett, NYPD.
06:18We need to ask you a few questions about a murder that took place earlier tonight.
06:22That's noon.
06:35Mr. Castle?
06:36You've got quite a rap sheet for a best-selling author.
06:39Disorderly conduct, resisting arrest.
06:42Boys will be boys.
06:45It says here that you stole a police horse.
06:48Borrowed.
06:49Ah, and you were nude at the time.
06:51It was spring.
06:52And every time the charges were dropped.
06:55What can I say?
06:57The mayor is a fan, but if it makes you feel any better, I'd be happy to let you spank me.
07:03Mr. Castle, this whole bad boy charm thing that you've got going might work for bimbets and celebutantes.
07:10Me?
07:11I work for a living.
07:12So that makes you one of two things in my world.
07:14Either the guy who makes my life easier, or the guy who makes my life harder.
07:17And trust me, you do not want to be the guy who makes my life harder.
07:20Okay.
07:23Allison Tisdale.
07:24Daughter of real estate mogul, Jonathan Tisdale.
07:26She's cute.
07:27She's dead.
07:28Did you ever meet her?
07:29Book signing?
07:30Charity event?
07:31It's possible.
07:32She's not in my little black book, if that's what you're asking.
07:35What about this guy?
07:37Marvin Fisk.
07:38Small claims lawyer.
07:39Most of my claims tend to be on the, um, large side.
07:43So what's this got to do with me?
07:45Fisk was found murdered in his office two weeks ago.
07:48I didn't put it together until we saw the Tisdale crime scene tonight.
07:53Flowers for your grave.
07:55And this is how we found Marvin Fisk.
07:57Right out of Hell Hath No Fury.
07:59Looks like I have a fan.
08:01Yeah.
08:02A really deranged fan.
08:03Oh, you don't look deranged to me.
08:04What?
08:05Hell Hath No Fury.
08:08Angry Wiccans out for blood.
08:10Come on.
08:11Only hardcore castle groupies read that one.
08:13Do any of these groupies ever write you letters?
08:16Disturbing letters?
08:18Oh, all my fan mail is disturbing.
08:19It's an occupational hazard.
08:21Because sometimes in cases like this we find that the killer attempts to-
08:24Killer attempts to contact the subject of his obsession?
08:27I'm also pretty well versed in psychopathic methodologies.
08:30Another occupational hazard.
08:32And do you know you have gorgeous eyes?
08:35I take it that you won't have any objection to us going through your mail.
08:39Knock yourself out.
08:41Can I get copies of those?
08:43Copies?
08:44I have this poker game.
08:45It's mostly other writers.
08:46Patterson, Candle, you know, best sellers.
08:48You have no idea how jealous those would make them.
08:50Jealous?
08:51That I have a copycat?
08:52Oh my gosh, in my world that's the red badge of honor.
08:55That's the criminal Cooperstown.
08:57People are dead, Mr. Castle.
09:00I'm not asking for the bodies, just the pictures.
09:04I think we're done here.
09:19I'm just a gal who can't say no.
09:22I'm in a terrible fix.
09:25I always say, come on, let's go.
09:29Just when I order...
09:31Hey, kiddo!
09:33I'm just showing Bert here how we did it at the palace.
09:36Does he know it's your theme song?
09:38Ready to bring it home, donkey?
09:42Hey, yes!
09:43Five, six, seven, eight.
09:45I'm just a fool when lights are low.
09:49You're missing the late show.
09:51I saw it in previews.
09:52Looks like we got a new lead.
09:54His name is Bert.
09:55He does magic.
09:56Wow.
09:57Yeah.
09:58So he disappears by morning.
09:59Say, I play me and me down to the school night.
10:01Don't you turn into a pumpkin or something?
10:02Not when your dad's been squirted away by cops.
10:04That was a slammer.
10:05Anyone make it their bitch?
10:07Sorry, Switchblade.
10:08Still belong to you.
10:09Baby Bird?
10:10Already brushed.
10:11Your loss.
10:12So, are you gonna tell me about it or have to look it up on the fan sites?
10:19Nope.
10:20We had a deal.
10:21Sir, call the internet.
10:22You won.
10:23Stay off the fan sites.
10:24Seriously, Dad?
10:25Are you some type of trouble?
10:26Despite my best efforts, no.
10:27They want my help on a case.
10:29A case?
10:30Apparently.
10:31Someone's been killing people the way I killed them in my books.
10:34That's horrible.
10:35Yeah.
10:36How many?
10:37Two so far.
10:39Are you okay?
10:40Yeah.
10:41It's just so senseless.
10:44Murder usually is.
10:45Nope.
10:46Murder usually makes a great deal of sense.
10:49Passion, greed, politics.
10:51But senseless here is the books that the killer chose.
10:55Hell hath no fury, flowers for your grave, my truly lesser works.
11:00Why would a psychotic fan pick those?
11:02Maybe because he's psychotic.
11:04Come on.
11:06It's bedtime.
11:07We can figure it out in the morning.
11:13What are those?
11:14Castle's greatest hits.
11:16You're gonna familiarize yourselves with all of his murder scenes so we don't miss any.
11:20Got any on tape?
11:22First victim, male lawyer.
11:24Second victim, female social worker.
11:28Somewhere in these books, those two are connected.
11:30From the library of Katherine Beckett.
11:33Check it.
11:34Do you have a problem with reading, Ryan?
11:36Yo, check it, girl.
11:37You're totally a fan.
11:38Right?
11:39Of the genre?
11:40Right.
11:41The genre.
11:42That's why you're blushing.
11:43What are you, 12?
11:44Profiling indicates a perp with low intelligence, someone who has or thinks he has a personal
11:49relationship with our author.
11:50So that's where we start.
11:52What?
11:53I work dead bodies all day.
12:04The last thing I wanna do when I go home is read murder books.
12:09Aren't you curious?
12:11Curious?
12:12About how people can do these kinds of things to one another.
12:17Whoever did this read Castle's books and somewhere in those pages is the answer to where he'll strike next.
12:25Is all that Castle's mouth?
12:40His fans love him almost as much as he loves himself.
12:43Can you take that back to briefing, please?
12:46Did we hear back from the lab?
12:49Yeah.
12:50Scene was negative for DNA and prints, just like Fisk.
12:52Guys, careful.
12:53What about Tisdale and Fisk?
12:54Any connection?
12:55Other than your boy there?
12:57No.
12:58What's he doing here?
13:00Maybe he likes you.
13:01Detective Beckett.
13:02Captain?
13:04Yes, sir.
13:06Mr. Castle has offered to assist with the investigation.
13:09Really?
13:10It's the least I can do for the city I love.
13:13Considering the nature of the crime scenes, I think it's a good idea.
13:16Sir, can I talk to you for a minute?
13:20In private?
13:21Nope.
13:39What?
13:40Nothing.
13:41No, it's just the way your brow furrows when you're thinking.
13:50It's cute.
13:51I mean, not if you're playing poker, then it'd be deadly.
13:54But otherwise...
13:55Can I ask you a question?
13:56Shoot.
13:57Why are you here?
13:58You don't care about the victim, so you aren't here for justice.
14:02You don't care that the guy's aping your book, so you aren't here because you're outraged.
14:05So what is it, Rick?
14:07Are you here to annoy me?
14:09I'm here for the story.
14:10The story?
14:11Why those people?
14:13Why those murders?
14:14Sometimes there is no story.
14:17Sometimes the guy is just a psychopath.
14:19There's always a story.
14:21Always a chain of events that makes everything make sense.
14:24Take you, for example.
14:25Under normal circumstances, you should not be here.
14:28Most smart, good-looking women become lawyers, not cops.
14:32And yet, here you are.
14:34Why?
14:35I don't know, Rick.
14:37You're the novelist.
14:39You tell me.
14:40Well, you're not bridge and tunnel.
14:43No trace of the boroughs when you talk, so that means Manhattan.
14:45That means money.
14:47You went to college.
14:48Probably a pretty good one.
14:49You had options.
14:50Yeah, you had lots of options.
14:52Better options.
14:53More socially acceptable options.
14:55And you still chose this.
14:57That tells me something happened.
15:01Not to you.
15:04You're wounded, but you're not that wounded.
15:06It was somebody you cared about.
15:10It was someone you loved.
15:13And you probably couldn't live with that, but the person responsible was never caught.
15:20And that, Detective Beckett, is why you're here.
15:37Cute trick.
15:39Don't think you know me.
15:45The point is, there's always a story.
15:46You just have to find.
15:54I think I just did.
15:56Yeah.
15:57Lab's got lifts off the letter.
15:58Who's?
15:59The system's backlogged.
16:00It'll take a week to run a match.
16:01A week?
16:02Welcome to reality, superstar.
16:03Well, I never did much like reality.
16:04Mayor's office.
16:05Hi, Denise.
16:06It's Rick Castle.
16:07Hi.
16:08Yeah.
16:09Is he in?
16:10Hold up.
16:11Thanks.
16:12Like I said, Mayor's a fan.
16:13Rick!
16:14Hi, Denise.
16:15It's Rick Castle.
16:16Hi, Denise.
16:17It's Rick Castle.
16:18Hi.
16:19Yeah.
16:20Is he in?
16:21Hold up.
16:22Thanks.
16:23Like I said, Mayor's a fan.
16:24Rick!
16:25Yo, big cheese.
16:26It's Ricky.
16:27You want okay?
16:28Yeah, of course.
16:29Well, I don't know where you went.
16:30We took...
16:31We looked all over for you.
16:32Who you took up with that girl?
16:33The man's got the mayor on speed dial.
16:35The rich really are different.
16:36You want him?
16:37He's yours.
16:38A control freak like you is something you can't control?
16:39No, no.
16:40That's gonna be more fun than Shark Week.
16:41Okay.
16:42You will have your prints in an hour.
16:45Mr. Castle?
16:49Half of the guys here are waiting for prints.
16:51You don't just jump the line.
16:52Oh, I think somebody feels threatened.
16:55I am not threatened.
16:56No, no.
16:57I get it.
16:58I can call the mayor and you can.
16:59We have procedure.
17:00Protocol.
17:01Yeah.
17:02And you always come to a complete stop at a red light and you never fund your taxes.
17:04Tell me something.
17:05You ever have any fun?
17:06You know?
17:07Let your hair down.
17:08Drop your top.
17:09Little cop's gone wild.
17:11You do know I'm wearing a gun.
17:13Back at Midtown.
17:15I just found another one.
17:28Death of a prom queen.
17:30Maintenance found her an hour ago.
17:33Kendra Pitney.
17:34She lives in the building.
17:35All right.
17:36Let's get her out of the water.
17:38Um, why don't you just stay here and don't touch anything.
17:53Hey, Pam.
17:54Hi.
17:55I'm Richard Castle.
17:56I'm consulting.
17:57Richard Castle the author?
17:58On my better days.
17:59Laney Parish, medical examiner.
18:01I love your books.
18:02You know, you have a real gift with the details of death.
18:05I thought I told you to stay over there.
18:07I got lonely.
18:09You got a COD?
18:10Not until the full exam, but this wasn't a stabbing.
18:13Lack of blood around the wound suggests she was dead before it was inserted.
18:16No foam around the mouth, so we know she didn't drown.
18:19Oh, you're good.
18:20Yeah, yeah.
18:21She was killed first and then posed, just like the others.
18:24Yeah.
18:25I know.
18:26Can I have a word?
18:27Something wrong.
18:30This is a homicide investigation, not a day at Disneyland.
18:33If I give you an order, I expect you to obey it.
18:35Then you don't know me very well.
18:37You know, in my book, the dress was blue.
18:39Don't try to change a subject.
18:40Does Tisdale and Fisk know each other?
18:42We haven't found a connection.
18:43Why?
18:44What about motive?
18:45He's a serial killer.
18:46He doesn't need motive.
18:48Beckett.
18:49Okay.
18:50They got a match of the print.
18:52Kyle Cabot.
18:53He's in Brooklyn.
18:54We got him.
18:55I'll see you later.
19:04Stay here.
19:05Scout's honor.
19:25Kyle Cabot.
19:26NYPD.
19:27Open up.
19:32Kyle Cabot.
19:33NYPD.
19:34All clear.
19:35All clear.
19:36All clear.
19:40Yes, this is 4-0 Frank.
19:55You should invite him to join your book club.
20:04Back in.
20:08You gotta see this.
20:10Oh, that's creepy.
20:24I was never a scout.
20:27Hey, Beckett.
20:31Allison's blouse.
20:32I'm guessing he kept trophies.
20:3722 caliber.
20:49Get out of my house!
20:50Show me your hands!
20:51Let me see your hands!
20:52Let me see your hands!
20:53Let me see your hands!
20:54he's still not speaking state medical records indicate he's got pervasive developmental disorder
21:06well that explains this fixation with me pdd sometimes manifests in an obsession with a
21:11single subject yeah well your superfan also has a history of delusions guess whose caseworker was
21:16allison tisdale yeah her files indicate that he was on pretty heavy antipsychotics limited
21:22intelligence thinks he has a personal relationship with his hero looks like your profile was right
21:26detective beckon so what that that's it what more do you want evidence is in his apartment we can
21:32connect him with the three victims two from the banner where he worked and tisdale was a social
21:36worker call the da get him a legal aid that's it's too easy the reader would never buy it it's in one
21:43of your books castle out here we find a guy standing over a body with a gun he's usually the guy who did
21:47you know this kid was in and out of the system for years doesn't seem like he ever got the proper
22:04treatment until allison tisdale took over his case file she's the one who got him a job at the diner
22:08and her notes seem to say he was doing okay well we can let the da worry about all that now our job is
22:15done yeah hey um can you leave the box i'll take care of it tomorrow castle i'm kind of glad that
22:27you killed off storm less competition 20 to you cattle you're bluffing patterson cough up some of that tv
22:36money and you'll find out ah bets to you ricky
22:42castle castle that's to you oh sorry i know that look story trouble you know you never should have
22:53killed off storm that was a big mistake i would have retired him or crippled him and the man was money
22:59you don't see me putting a bullet through alex cross's head and my boy shane scully is going to
23:03be fueling my private jet long after people have all forgotten about storm well you know what just
23:08for that i am going to call so what's the problem reckon maybe we can help i'm working on this thing
23:15it starts with a famous author some psycho starts staging murders like the way he does in his books
23:20that's pretty self-aggrandizing isn't it this is castle we're talking about so crime scenes are
23:27clean doesn't leave any fingerprints doesn't leave any dna but the psycho writes the author a fan letter
23:33with his prints all over it well that leads the cops to his apartment where they find enough
23:36evidence to convict him
23:37and then that's it that's it yeah they arrest him that's terrible no wonder you're blocked
23:49and here's another thing the guy doesn't leave his prints at the scene of the crime but he sends a
23:53letter with his prints on it oh you lost me there and what about a twist where's a twist yeah yeah right
23:59like uh like maybe somebody set this kid up that's what your story needs the character who thinks
24:03the kid's innocent keeps digging until he finds the truth oh i have just the guy
24:09what are you doing it's a novelist's habit poking through other people's mail checking their medicine
24:23cabinets why are you still here i just came by to give you this it was something to memorialize our
24:31brief partnership don't look so suspicious go on open it
24:37i got you an advance copy i even signed it to you
24:47not that you're a fan thanks that's actually kind of sweet
24:56well well it was nice to have met you detective beckett
25:07you
25:37He didn't.
25:42Oh, he did!
25:46Richard Castle, you are under arrest for felony theft and obstruction of justice.
25:52You forgot making you look bad.
25:54You know, for a minute there, you actually made me believe that you were human.
25:58Cuff him.
26:00Ooh, bondage. My safe word is apples.
26:03Oh, there's no need to be gentle.
26:05How'd you find me, anyway?
26:07I'm a detective. That's what I do.
26:09My mother told you, didn't she?
26:11By the way, the rose petals in the Tisdale murder, they're grandiflora, not hybrid teas.
26:16I'll make a note of it.
26:17Yeah, you probably should, since it means Kyle Cabot is innocent.
26:25Thank you, officer.
26:29Hello, father.
26:30Hello, daughter.
26:31I wish I could say I was surprised. It's my fault. Really.
26:34Really? He never had a father figure.
26:36Oh, that's not true, mother. I had lots of father figures.
26:38I see you've met Captain Montgomery and Detective Beckett.
26:41And they have agreed to drop the charges if you agree to behave.
26:44No more interference with this case, Mr. Castle.
26:47Do we understand each other?
26:48Yeah.
26:50But you still got the wrong guy.
26:52No.
26:53No, no, no. Don't tell me he got to you.
27:07Please, he didn't get to me.
27:09She did.
27:10Who, Alison?
27:11Marvin Fisk first murder.
27:14Kyle knew him from the diner.
27:15And then he kills Alison, his social worker.
27:18And then he kills Kendra Pitney, also from the diner.
27:21So?
27:22So, he starts with the murder of convenience.
27:27And then escalates to a murder of somebody he knows very well.
27:30And then goes back to a murder of convenience.
27:33It doesn't make any sense.
27:34Somebody set up Kyle to take the fall.
27:36Somebody who knew enough about his fixation with me to use it to get away with murder.
27:41That means we're not looking for a serial killer.
27:43We're looking for a good old fashioned murderer. Someone with motive.
27:47You think the victims were somehow related?
27:49Police would have found it by now.
27:51Now, if I were writing the story, the killer would have only wanted one of the victims dead.
27:55He would have killed the other ones just to corrupt the crime.
27:58How do you get away with one murder by committing two more?
28:00At one death, you look for motive. At two, you look for a connection.
28:04At three, you look for someone like Kyle.
28:06At three, you don't need motive because mentally unstable serial killers don't usually have one.
28:11That makes about as much sense as Mousetrap.
28:14And did that play eight times a week for a year?
28:17I still have no idea what it's about.
28:22Castle was right.
28:24If he was trying to follow his books, then the roses on Alison's body were wrong.
28:28And Fisk should have been suffocated by a plastic bag, not strangled with a necktie.
28:32And Kendra's dress should have been blue, not yellow.
28:35For an obsessive, it would have been impossible not to get the details right.
28:37Well, if it wasn't him, then who was it?
28:39The killer had to have known both his intended victim and Kyle fairly well.
28:43The only victim that had any real knowledge of Kyle's obsessive condition would have been Alison Tisdale.
28:51If Alison's the key, she's the one that the killer is trying to hide.
28:54Well, as far as we know, she wasn't seeing anyone and none of her other case files fit the profile.
28:58Well, somebody had to know something about her.
29:00So if the killer found out about Kyle through Alison, then Alison must have been the intended target.
29:04Somebody wanted Alison dead. Just have to figure out why.
29:09If I have to keep bailing you out, you're gonna need to raise my allowance.
29:13I allot.
29:15Mine too.
29:16Hi. I'm Rick Castle. I have an appointment to see Mr. Tisdale.
29:31Yes, Mr. Castle. He's expecting you.
29:34Is he now?
29:37This is not what it looks like. This, I...
29:40Okay, this is exactly what it looks like, but I can explain.
29:43You coming?
29:48Did Alison ever mention having enemies or being threatened?
29:53People loved her. All she wanted was to make the world a better place.
29:56I told all this to the other detective.
29:58I know, sir. We're just following up.
29:59Did Alison know anybody who could have profited from her debt?
30:02Mr. Castle, I may be rich, but my daughter was not.
30:06She abhorred money.
30:08The little she had, she gave to charity.
30:11Thank you, sir.
30:13Mr. Tisdale, Fortune Magazine estimated your net worth at nearly a hundred million dollars.
30:19Is that true?
30:21I don't check day to day.
30:22But it's in the ballpark.
30:25I've been lucky, yes.
30:27Appreciate your time.
30:29What happens to all that money if something happens to you?
30:34Castle?
30:35Half of my estate goes to my charitable foundation and the rest of my children.
30:40I mean, my son.
30:46What was that all about?
30:58He's dying.
31:01Who's dying?
31:02Tisdale?
31:03You want a hot dog?
31:04I want a hot dog.
31:05What do you take on your...
31:06Apples, apples, apples.
31:07What makes you think he's dying?
31:09Okay.
31:10Huh.
31:11You see those pictures in his office?
31:12Yeah.
31:13He's much thinner now.
31:14Like sick thin.
31:15Not workout thin.
31:16His daughter was just murdered.
31:17And the way he kept touching his hair like he's self-conscious?
31:19I think it was a piece.
31:20It's a good one.
31:21But it's new to him.
31:22Chemo's relatively recent.
31:23And he was wearing makeup.
31:25He's trying to look healthier than he is.
31:26Doesn't want his shareholders to know.
31:28So he's got cancer.
31:29That doesn't mean that he's terminal.
31:30But it's a much better story if he is.
31:33You interview the brother?
31:34There was never a reason to.
31:36Well, now there is.
31:37Did you get hot, mister?
31:38No.
31:39How are you, Tizia?
31:40Yeah.
31:41Hey, Mitch.
31:42Let's get these pallets on the truck.
31:43Detective Kay Beckett, Rick Castle.
31:44We'd like to ask you some questions about your sister.
31:45Yeah, anything I can do.
31:46Let's head inside.
31:47Last time I saw her?
31:48About a month ago at Dad's.
31:49You know, I still can't believe she's gone.
31:50Were you close?
31:51Everybody loved her.
31:52You know, my sister, she just wanted to see the best in people.
32:08Even that kid who killed her.
32:10You know, she did everything she could to help that guy.
32:15Even brought him around here once to see if I could get him a job.
32:19But you didn't.
32:20I can't afford to.
32:22All right, my employees mess up, I lose my bond.
32:25I don't know.
32:27Maybe if I'd helped him, things would be different.
32:30How'd your sister react when your dad told you he was dying?
32:35She was upset.
32:37We both were.
32:38Now that she's dead, your inheritance stands to double.
32:42What are you suggesting?
32:44He already caught the killer.
32:45Yeah, we did.
32:46But the first thing his lawyers will do is shift suspicion to someone else.
32:49Someone with motive.
32:50And then they'll stick me on the stand and ask me why I didn't investigate.
32:53And then the jury will have doubts.
32:55And we don't want them to have doubts, do we?
32:57No.
32:58So you'll have to excuse me for asking, but where were you the night of your sister's murder?
33:01I was traveling.
33:02On business.
33:04No.
33:05Actually, I was out of the country for all three murders.
33:09Here.
33:10Check the stamps on that if it's useful.
33:18A U.S. passport.
33:19Absolutely unassailable.
33:21I was sure it was him.
33:23Oh, don't take it so hard.
33:25After all, you're just a writer.
33:27What?
33:28Nothing.
33:29What?
33:30Oh, come on.
33:31He's lying.
33:32I mean, I get him knowing where he was the night of his sister's murder, but the other
33:34two victims, he didn't pause.
33:35He didn't ask for dates.
33:36He didn't even check his calendar.
33:37But he was ready with an alibi.
33:38In my experience, innocent people do not prepare alibis.
33:40So I was right.
33:41Okay.
33:42Give me the dates and flights.
33:43Why can't you just admit I was right?
33:44Because he totally fooled you.
33:45He totally bought the alibi.
33:46Yeah.
33:47I had a fleeting moment of self-doubt.
33:48So?
33:49His credit card company confirms he paid for three round-trip tickets.
33:51Dates coincide with the three murders.
33:52So according to his credit card company, he had a fleeting moment of self-doubt.
33:53He had a fleeting moment of self-doubt.
33:54So?
33:55His credit card company confirms he paid for three round-trip tickets.
33:56Dates coincide with the three murders.
34:09So according to his credit card, Tisdale was out of the country.
34:11Wait a minute.
34:12So now I'm not right?
34:13Which means the passport stamps were forged.
34:14I'm gonna call passport control and have him check the logs.
34:17That's not how he would have done it.
34:22You got a better idea, Ricky?
34:23Second passport.
34:24And how would he get one of those?
34:25Oh, with his money?
34:26Trust me, in the black market it'd be a piece of cake.
34:28So he leaves the country on his own, comes back with the other passport, commits murder,
34:33flies out, and then comes back in on his own.
34:36Perfect alibi, perfect murder.
34:38But almost impossible to prove.
34:40Unless you find the second passport.
34:41Gotta be freaked after your little meet and greet.
34:43Keep eyeballs on him.
34:44If he moves, I wanna know.
34:47The things that people will do for money.
34:49This guy killed his own sister in cold blood and two more people to cover it up.
34:53He's either a world-class sociopath, or there's a lot more to this story than just money.
34:57Judge Markway, please.
34:59Oh, Markway, tell him I say hello.
35:06No, seriously, they're redoing the entire back nine.
35:09Oh, man, I love that course. When are they gonna reopen it?
35:11Judge, I hate to break up Golf Digest, but I have an exigent situation here.
35:15Very well, detective. Play through.
35:17We need a search warrant.
35:19She needs a search warrant.
35:20For the home and office of Harrison Tisdale.
35:22Harrison Tisdale as in Jonathan Tisdale's son?
35:25Yes.
35:26He murdered his sister, killed two more people to cover up the crime.
35:28Murder the Tisdales?
35:30You better be long and straight on this one, detective.
35:32Harrison's father is terminally ill, sir.
35:34What? I just saw him out of benefit.
35:36Hope you took a picture.
35:38With the sister out of the way, the son will inherit all of it.
35:41Excuse me.
35:42There's also a twisted emotional angle in there.
35:45I don't want to bore you with the details, but family and vengeance.
35:47It's Shakespearean.
35:48Harrison just left work.
35:49He's probably headed home to destroy the evidence.
35:52Are you sure you can tie him to the other victims?
35:55Through a patient of his sister's that he was trying to free.
35:58If it stays like this, I wish I was back in civil division.
36:03Thank you, sir.
36:05Thanks for the consumer.
36:10You're home early, Mr. Tisdale.
36:29Got a listing siren.
36:30Yeah, thanks for your help.
36:35What do we got, guys?
36:38Get this.
36:39Junior's business is going under.
36:41He's tens of millions in debt.
36:42Well, with his sister's share of the Tisdale fortune,
36:44he stands to pay off his debt and then sign.
36:46Castle, if you're going in, you should be armed.
36:49My backup's in the glove compartment.
36:54I can't find it.
36:56This time you're staying put.
36:59Oh, okay.
37:01Second.
37:02Very funny.
37:03Joke's over.
37:04Come on!
37:13Cuff me once, shame on you.
37:15Cuff me twice, shame on me.
37:18Hmm.
37:19Harrison Tisdale, NYPD.
37:20We have a warrant.
37:21Just a minute!
37:25Harrison Tisdale, NYPD.
37:26We have a warrant.
37:27Just a minute!
37:28Harrison Tisdale, NYPD.
37:29We have a warrant.
37:30Just a minute!
37:31Just a minute!
37:45Open the door, Harrison.
37:46Open the door.
37:47It's NYPD.
37:48We have a warrant.
38:01Hey!
38:15Hey!
38:16He's coming to the fire escape.
38:18He's out back.
38:19Cover the front.
38:28Stop!
38:29Police!
38:30Castle!
38:32No!
38:34I got him!
38:36I got him!
38:38Castle!
38:54Stay back!
38:56Stay back! Don't come anywhere closer!
38:58Stay back! Stay back!
39:00Don't move!
39:02Let him go, Harrison!
39:04Castle, you okay?
39:06Yes! Psycho here needs a breath mint.
39:08Shut up! Okay?
39:10Harrison, you know what's bugging me?
39:12If you were that deep end dead,
39:14why didn't you just ask your father for your money?
39:16Castle, you are not helping!
39:18You know what I think?
39:20I think you did ask.
39:22I think you asked and he said no.
39:24I think he always said no.
39:26Self-made man like that, I bet he thought you were weak for asking.
39:28He's the one who was weak.
39:30I was trying to make something with my life and all he cared about was her.
39:34That's why you killed her.
39:36It wasn't just for the money.
39:38You wanted to punish him before he died.
39:40Take away the old thing he loved.
39:42That's a pretty good story.
39:44Who are you?
39:46No, it's over.
39:47It's not over!
39:48It's not over!
39:49Drop that gun or I swear to God I'm-
39:52Tell me you saw that!
39:56You're gonna put that in your report, right?
39:58Can I see the cuffs, please?
40:00Yeah.
40:04What the hell were you thinking?
40:06You could have gotten yourself killed.
40:07Well, the safety was on the whole time.
40:10You know, you could have told me.
40:12Where's the fun in that?
40:24Well, guess this is it.
40:26Well, it doesn't have to be.
40:27We could, uh, go to dinner.
40:29Do you brief each other?
40:30Why, Castle?
40:31So I can be another one of your punk quests?
40:33Or I could be one of yours.
40:37It's nice to meet you, Castle.
40:41It's too bad.
40:43It would have been great.
40:48You have no idea.
40:50regions, just take the wheel
40:54live a glance
40:56sukleLE
41:04time to make one last appear
41:06for the life I live
41:09Stop and stare
41:11I think I'm moving
41:13but I'll go nowhere
41:15Yeah, I know that everyone gets scared
41:21But I'll become what I can't be
41:26You wanted to see me, sir?
41:29Yeah. I just got a call from the mayor's office.
41:33Apparently you have a fan.
41:35A fan, sir?
41:36Rick Castle. Seems he's found the main character for his next set of novels.
41:40A tough but savvy female detective.
41:45I'm flattered?
41:46Don't be. He says he has to do research.
41:49Oh, no.
41:49Oh, yes.
41:50No way.
41:50Becky, listen.
41:51Sir, he is like a nine-year-old on a sugar rush, totally incapable of taking anything seriously.
41:55But he did help solve this case.
41:57Oh.
41:57And when the mayor's happy, the commissioner's happy.
41:59And when the commissioner's happy, I'm happy.
42:02How long, sir?
42:04Well, it's up to him.
