00:00as we know you can gamble on what feels like just about everything and depending on where you live
00:05there's a growing menu of items including of course micro betting for people that don't know
00:10what micro betting is i mean you're like you might enter a game saying ah i want to you know i like
00:16this team on the money line i like this team with its total i like this player prop we're talking
00:21about extreme in-game betting like the next pitch is going to be a strike or a ball or it's going
00:27to exceed 87 miles an hour next play in a football game all of that and you know it it does introduce
00:34a question i suppose of you know when is enough enough what's too much in new jersey one lawmaker
00:40is looking at micro betting wants it banned doesn't see any place for it in uh in that state how do you
00:45see that uh just that market and and its future ultimately in that state and elsewhere yeah i
00:52remember when i first started covering this industry you know when not every state i mean not every state
00:57is legal still but you know when just a few states were legal you had a lot of operators talking
01:02about the potential and the engagement that you could get with micro betting but on the flip side
01:07you do see the people like this lawmaker saying i don't know that's a lot of engagement that's more
01:12increasing for increases the impulsiveness of it you know yeah when you're watching a football game
01:17you're like oh is this a run two seconds later is it a pass what uh you know so it is that kind of
01:23thought process kind of similar to the online casino aspect of if you can place i don't know
01:29how many you know yeah to your point pitches how many pitches are there in a game if you can
01:33place that many bets that quickly where is that going and that is what this lawmaker is thinking
01:38and it does just kind of go along with a huge array of bills that have passed in new jersey this year
01:45they're taking a hard look at the gaming industry and saying let's change it they increased
01:50taxes a little bit they banned the sweepstakes operators uh they also passed a bill that
01:56prohibits advert sportsbook advertising on college campuses and so that's what you're looking at is
02:02just a lot of kind of furthering the regulations on sports betting and gambling as a whole which i think
02:09kind of again looking back at ohio you're going to see more and more states kind of look harder at
02:15placing a little bit tighter guardrails uh because you know there is a lot of national nationwide
02:20headwinds uh against online gambling whether it is sports betting or online casino and you're starting
02:25to see things at the federal level going maybe we need nationwide uh framework on advertising on
02:32problem gambling you know things that need to be in place to make sure this is a safe industry safer
02:38than maybe it is regulated state by state so you're seeing some states including new jersey which of
02:43course has a long history of gambling industry kind of tighten it up a little bit and it will be
02:49interesting to see because i think you know now that you have these micro bets on legal sports books
02:54yeah what does it do ultimately to maybe send people back to the offshore books if you're banning it
03:00legally so kind of there are things to weigh uh whether or not it passes or not at the legislative level
03:07in new jersey
03:07you
