00:00Saint Gaspar del Bufalo, the founder of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood.
00:06Saint Gaspar was a man on fire with zeal for Christ, and unshakable in his devotion to the
00:13Precious Blood. Born in 1786 in Rome, he grew up during one of the most turbulent times in church
00:20history. The French Revolution had shaken Europe, and Napoleon's armies were storming through Italy,
00:27suppressing the church, and silencing priests. But even as a young man, Gaspar's heart burned with
00:34courage and faith. Ordained a priest at just 25, he was arrested soon after for refusing to take an
00:41oath of allegiance to Napoleon. When the guards demanded he swear loyalty to the emperor,
00:47Gaspar boldly replied, I cannot. I must remain faithful to Jesus Christ. He was thrown into
00:55prison for four long years, but prison did not break him. It refined him. There his love for
01:02the precious blood of Jesus deepened, and his mission became clear. To spread devotion to the
01:08saving blood that poured from the wounds of Christ. When he was released, he began a mission that would
01:15span all of Italy. With unmatched passion, he preached in cities, towns, and even remote villages,
01:24often moving hearts to repentance and healing. He believed that the precious blood of Jesus
01:29was not just a symbol, it was the very source of mercy and power, capable of renewing the church and
01:36the world. He once said, would that I had a thousand tongues, a thousand hearts, to make the blood of
01:44Jesus known and loved everywhere. He founded the Missionaries of the Precious Blood in 1815,
01:51a congregation dedicated to preaching missions and calling sinners back to God. His preaching wasn't
01:58polite or passive. It was fiery and fearless. He confronted bandits, entered prisons, walked into
02:06plague-infested towns, and spoke to broken hearts with the love of Christ. Everywhere he went, conversions
02:13followed. Gaspar's devotion to the precious blood wasn't abstract or poetic. It was real, living, and
02:20urgent. He saw in every drop of Christ's blood the price of our salvation. He taught that the blood was
02:27shed for every sinner, every outcast, every person who felt beyond redemption. He often meditated on
02:35the crucifix, imagining the blood flowing from Christ's wounds as a fountain of hope for humanity.
02:42For him, the Eucharist, the consecrated blood, was the center of life, strength, and healing. His life was a
02:50sermon lived out, that no matter how wounded or lost we are, the blood of Jesus can redeem us,
02:56purify us, purify us, and restore us to grace.
02:59St. Gaspar died in 1837, exhausted from his labors but filled with peace. He had poured himself out like
03:07Christ, never holding back. Pope Pius Dent called him the true apostle of the precious blood, and he was
03:15canonized in 1954. Today, his legacy lives on through the missionaries of the precious blood, and through
03:22every soul who clings to the hope that Jesus' blood has power, power to heal, to restore, and to save.
