00:00The celebration continues, and now we go with our correspondent in Cuba, Belén de los Santos,
00:08who is in Havana, precisely with another colleague of us, Luis Alberto Matos,
00:12doing a commemorative act held by the Cuban Institute of Radio and Television to honor the 20 years of Telesur.
00:21Hello, studios. It's a pleasure to greet you from Havana, Cuba, in this case.
00:26And at such an important event at this moment, we are celebrating the 20th anniversary of our multi-platform Telesur.
00:35We are at the Cuban Institute of Radio and Television.
00:40We have just seen one of the commemorative events here take place.
00:45The authorities of the Cuban Radio and Television honored Telesur with a series of acknowledgments.
00:52And also, we are seeing right behind me just one of the moments that really honor this trajectory,
01:01this project that speaks of the global south, that speaks of the histories and narratives of our own people
01:08that we are bringing to the world and also in English to a whole new audience from the last years.
01:16Telesur English is one of the important parts of this project that was thought out 20 years ago.
01:23And I'm joined right now by none other than one of our key anchors, Luis Alberto Matos.
01:31You were also part of the ceremony.
01:33And let me ask you, Liz, what does it feel for you?
01:37What does it mean to be part of this 20th anniversary in Telesur?
01:41Thank you, Belen, for that introduction.
01:43Well, I got to say I'm a bit nervous. I'm usually on the other side of the mic.
01:47Well, to be part of this celebration, to be part of the Telesur family is something that people don't understand until you're part of it.
01:53It's a sense of pride to be doing this kind of work because once you're in it, you see the importance that the work that you're doing it has
01:59and also the result it has when you see all the people that are watching our signal across the Caribbean, in Africa, all over the world.
02:06And they continue to follow the news that are happening with us and they comment with us and they are part of our work as well
02:12because they are our voices and we are giving their voice as well.
02:15So it's a reciprocal, a two-way street going on.
02:17I've been part of the Telesur family for five years.
02:20It's turned 20 now, which I've been 20 years of hard work, of lots of learning.
02:24And in these five years I've been part of this family, I've began to learn more about the world, but also about myself
02:31because being in Telesur has given me an opportunity to expand borders that I didn't know that I even had.
02:38So to be part of this celebration, to be part of how people see Telesur and how they perceive the work that we're doing
02:44with so much pride is of great joy. I'm very proud of being part of this family.
02:50Such an important event. Thank you so much, Luis, for sharing with us your experience being part of this family.
02:57It's truly one of the most important things that we have and that we're celebrating at this moment.
03:02So this is just a little bit of what is happening, not just here in Cuba, but all over the continent.
03:08We are celebrating this 20 years together, this 20 years of a regional project that continues
03:14and vows to continue for many more years. For now we will continue celebrations, but for now we go back to studios.
03:22Thank you, El and thank you, Luis. We keep celebrating.
03:26Thank you, El and thank you, Luis. We keep celebrating.
