During a press gaggle on Wednesday, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson was asked about subpoenaing Jeffrey Epstein accomplice, Ghislane Maxwell.

00:00Speaker, based on what?
00:01Can I just ask you, do you feel like your Republican conference has gotten away from you on this Epstein issue?
00:08You saw yesterday Comer announcing that there is going to be a subpoena for Galeen Maxwell.
00:13Do you support the House Oversight Committee's work, and do you support the work of your members who do want more transparency on this issue?
00:20Of course. Look, there's no daylight between members of the House Republican Conference, or, for that matter, between us and the White House.
00:25I fully support my committee chairs. Jamie Comer is a trusted friend. He's an excellent chairman of the Oversight Committee, and he has a duty and responsibility to follow the truth where it leads.
00:33And so every single one of us are for maximum transparency, and we'll use every power that we have to ensure that that's done.
00:40If they see fit to bring in Galeen Maxwell for testimony, that's fine.
00:43I will note the obvious concern, the caveat that Chairman Comer and I and everyone has, that could she be counted on to tell the truth?
00:51Is she a credible witness? I mean, this is a person who's been sentenced to many, many years in prison for terrible, unspeakable conspiratorial acts and acts against innocent young people.
01:02I mean, can we trust what she's going to say? Even if she raises her hand and says that she'll testify under oath, is that something that can be trusted?
01:08You know, that's a reasonable question. Is that credible evidence? I don't know.
01:12But we'll have to see. We have to, you know, uncover everything that we can and let the American people evaluate.
01:16They're concerned.
01:17They're concerned.
