Late last night, Speaker Johnson was asked about the Epstein Files.
Transcript
00:00There's no daylight between the President and House Republicans on transparency, and
00:23he's been very clear that he wants all credible information, credible evidence to be turned
00:28over to the people so that the people can decide.
00:30We trust the American people and their judgment, and we're for that.
00:34The President is for that, and there's different ways everybody expresses the same truth, but
00:38I would tell you that there's a unified opinion on that.
00:41Mr. Speaker, in the Rules Committee tonight, you guys advanced a rule with the Epstein
00:45resolution that you guys crafted.
00:47Do you commit to putting that on the floor for a full chamber vote?
00:50The Rules Committee turned into a bit of a debacle this week because the Democrats were
00:54trying to politicize this.
00:55We were working on cutting fraud, waste, and abuse, and wasteful spending, and they
01:00kept trying to hijack that and derail it and turn it into Epstein hearings.
01:04That's not what the subject was.
01:06So the Republicans on the Rules Committee, most of them that were present, voted against
01:11Democrat amendments to try to hijack that.
01:13That was the right thing for them.
01:15They were wrongfully tarred and feathered by people who did not understand what was happening
01:20and said that they were covering up for ... They were in favor of concealing Epstein files.
01:24Simply not true.
01:26So the resolution that was advanced tonight in the Rules Committee was for them to go
01:30on record and say, no, of course we're for transparency.
01:32Of course.
01:33Every single one of the Republicans on the Rules Committee are for transparency and for
01:37releasing the files, just as the President of the United States is.
01:41And they wanted that to make crystal clear.
01:43Make it crystal clear.
01:44I think their vote tonight did.
01:45We'll determine what happens with all that.
01:47There's a lot developing.
01:49The President made his statements this afternoon.
01:51He's asked the Attorney General to release the information.
01:54I'm certain that she will.
01:55And everybody can make their own decisions about that.
01:57So we have a long list of priorities.
01:59Mr. Speaker.
02:00Will you commit to putting the Epstein Rule on the floor?
02:03Are you going to put that on the floor?
02:04We will see how all this develops.
02:05We're in line with the White House.
02:08There's no daylight between us.
02:09We want transparency, and I think that will be delivered for the people.
02:11Mr. Speaker won.
