Le 24 juillet, l’Église célèbre Sainte Christine l’Admirable, une mystique médiévale née en Belgique au XIIe siècle. Son histoire est stupéfiante : déclarée morte à 21 ans, elle se relève au cours de ses propres funérailles et raconte avoir vu le ciel, le purgatoire et l’enfer. 00:00On July 24, we also celebrate Saint Christina the Admirable, a 12th-century mystic with an extraordinary destiny.

00:10Born in Belgium, she defied the laws of nature and still impresses today with her mad love for Christ and her mystical trials.

00:20Christine was born around 1150 in Saint-Tron, Belgium.

00:25At 21, she fell seriously ill and appeared to die.

00:31During her funeral mass, she abruptly rose from the coffin, rose into the air and recounted having seen heaven, hell and purgatory.

00:44Returned to life, she chose to live as a penitent, in atonement for the souls in purgatory.

00:52Christine withdraws into solitude and fasts.

00:55She sleeps in the woods or on stones, endures the cold, the flames, the chains, by choice, to participate in the sufferings of Christ.

01:07She is called the Admirable because of her spectacular ecstasies, her levitations, her pains offered.

01:16Some believe she is possessed, others venerate her as a living saint.

01:23She died around 1224, at the age of 74, after a life of extreme destitution.

01:32Although never officially canonized, she remained popular in Flanders and among modern mystics.

02:19Saint Christine, example of humility and living faith, keep us faithful to the Gospel until our last breath.
