00:00Hi I'm Megan and I'm Sierra and this week's theme on 7 Gymnastics Girls is Hardest Skills Tutorial
00:06and so we're going to be showing you how to do an aerial. An aerial isn't exactly a hardest skill
00:12but it was one of the hardest skills it took to actually learn for us. So let's get started.
00:18So the first part of your aerial is the set and there's two sets that I know of. I do one, Sierra does another one
00:24so that's the two sets that I'm going to talk about but for one of them you have to be really careful
00:29because it's really easy to actually set out when you do one of these sets and you still
00:33want to make sure you're going up.
00:48Decide what set looks best for you. When you're running to do your aerial make sure you don't
00:53take a lot of steps because if you take too many you're going to lose all the power to do your
00:56aerial. So just try to take three or four steps. Now I'm going to show you guys a couple
01:01of drills that can help you want to keep your hands off the ground when you're actually doing
01:04your aerial. First one's pretty easy. You're just going to act like you're doing a cartwheel
01:09but in your head before you put your hands down you're going to count one or you can count
01:13it out loud too and just wait until after you count to put your hands down. So one and then
01:21after that capture two. One two. And basically you want to try to keep going as high as you can
01:30so now we're going to do three. One two three. So it might help you a little. For some people
01:37it might not really help or some people might just find it difficult but there's also another
01:42one you can do which is going to be like just popping off and if you want you can also like
01:47wait to put them on and then wait to put them off. So this one you're just going to put your hands down
01:52and right when you put them down try to pop them off. And if you want to combine the two.
02:05Keep in mind you're not running into these so it might be kind of difficult to actually do these
02:10but if you can also try running into them and hopefully that will get you started on knowing
02:19what an aerial feels like. So a lot of people are scared to try their aerials at the gym or even
02:24at home but this is like a great skill to practice at home because it might be harder than like doing
02:29it on gym floor but like you can't really get hurt doing them and even if something horrible is going
02:35to happen you could always put your hands down if you absolutely had to but the goal is to not put
02:40your hands down. When doing your arrow you really want to focus on kicking your back leg all the way
02:45around so that way you don't have to put your hands down and you're just all the way around really fast.
02:49So here's the drill that will help you do that. So basically what you're going to do is you're going
02:53to kind of set into a wall but I'm using a deck and you want to set and really kick your back leg up
02:59as high as you can as fast as you can.
03:04What's going to help you a lot with your aerial is if you have a spotter so I'm going to be spotting Megan
03:08on how to do her aerial and basically the spotter just wants to grab their hips so if they need to
03:13do a practice cartwheel to see kind of where they would grab their hips basically they want to hold
03:17their hips up so they don't put their hands down. So Megan's going to do a cartwheel, I grab her hips to make
03:22sure that it's in the right spot and now we're going to try to do an aerial. So basically the spotter just kind of
03:27holds their hips up so they can get all the way around without putting their hands down.
03:39Once you feel comfortable doing your aerial with the spot the next best thing is doing it on a hill.
03:44Make sure the hill isn't too like tall otherwise you can get really hurt but make sure it's actually
03:49going to be able to do something. So what the hill is going to do is it's going to give you more time
03:54to get your legs around so hopefully it should be easier to do your aerial.
04:03Aerial time!
04:24We could use that in bloopers.
04:47You can see us every Tuesday on Seven Gymnastics Girls. Bye!
