00:22On Comedy Central's The Daily Show, which shares a parent company with The Late Show, Paramount Global,
00:27Stewart broke his silence about CBS abruptly announcing an end date to his friend and former colleague Colbert's top-rated show.
00:34First, he acknowledged that the show was losing money.
00:37Late night TV is a struggling financial model.
00:41We're all basically operating a blockbuster kiosk inside of a Tower Records.
00:47He went on to say,
00:48The fact that CBS didn't try to save their number-one-rated late-night franchise that's been on the air for over three decades
00:56is part of what's making everybody wonder.
00:58Was this purely financial?
01:01Or maybe the path of least resistance for your $8 billion merger?
01:07Stewart then specifically called out President Donald Trump.
01:10Was killing a show that you know rankled a fragile and vengeful president so insecure?
01:18But Stewart didn't stop there.
01:20I believe CBS lost the benefit of the doubt two weeks prior when they sold out their flagship news program
01:27to pay an extortion fee to said president.
01:30Over on NBC's The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, the host kicked off his Monday night show like this.
01:35I am your host, well, at least for tonight.
01:38I don't like it. I don't like what's going on one bit. These are crazy times.
01:45Fallon went on to directly address the cancellation of Colbert's show and say this.
01:50And many people are now threatening to boycott the network.
01:54CBS could lose millions of viewers plus tens of hundreds watching on Paramount+.
01:58He also shouted out the years of quote incredibly smart and hilarious television Colbert had made
02:04and his 10 Emmy Awards.
02:06Trump heard and was like, big deal, last week I just won a FIFA World Cup trophy, so...
