00:01 John Stewart is making his daily show return. After a year-long search for Trevor Noah's
00:10 replacement, the longtime host and Noah predecessor has agreed to return to host
00:14 through the 2024 election. The Comedy Central series will have Stewart back on Mondays.
00:19 The show will then rely on its newsroom of correspondents, such as Jordan Klepper
00:23 and Ronny Chieng, among others, to lead the show for the remainder of the week,
00:27 with this plan moving forward through the presidential election.
00:30 Stewart, who spent 16 years at the show, many of them Emmy-winning,
00:34 will be heavily involved as an executive producer on the other nights as well.
00:38 The move comes after Stewart prematurely exited his Apple TV+ show The Problem,
00:42 following creative differences between the streamer and host over potential topics and guests.
00:48 Stewart is also expected to be actively involved in shaping new talent for the show,
00:52 as he had done for many years before. In fact, he's largely responsible for launching the
00:57 careers of Stephen Colbert, John Oliver, Michael Che, and Samantha Bee, among others.
01:02 Plans for a permanent host for the daily show have been up in the air since Noah announced
01:06 abruptly in late September of 2022 that he'd be exiting the series and has been cycling through
01:11 celebrity guest hosts since January of 2023, including Kal Penn, Leslie Jones, Chelsea Handler,
01:18 Hasan Minhaj, and Sarah Silverman. When asked about the prolonged process to find a permanent
01:23 replacement, Noah himself has noted, "I think the strike negatively affected the show, and so I get
01:28 it. I also don't think it's an easy slot to fill." For more on this story, head to the article on THR.com.
