01:19Since stepping into the role as a country manager in 2023,
01:22you've been instrumental in shaping strategic communication,
01:26stakeholder engagement, and expansion roadmap
01:29in one of the world's most regulated markets.
01:33Under your leadership,
01:35Fiscally has achieved key milestones,
01:37including the acquisition of DF, Deutsche Fiskal GmbH,
01:40a multi-million-euro investment from growth equity firm Verdain and strategic expansion into Spain and Italy.
01:51The innovative approach offers software-only TC compliance,
01:56cloud-native digital receipts, and unified API integration.
02:00You have now reached more than 600,000 points of sale as Fiscally together
02:06and serve more than 1,000 B2B clients,
02:10including top-tier partners like Audubird, SumUp, and ready-to-order, right?
02:16That's absolutely true.
02:17I have to correct it at some point
02:19because we as Fiscally,
02:21we hit the 600k POS recently,
02:26but with the acquisition of Deutsche Fiskal,
02:29we are close to 1 million now.
02:31So the Fiscally group itself has hit the magic 1 million barrier.
02:38So very proud of that, yes.

02:41we'll unpack how Fiscally is transforming fiscal compliance

03:06That was quite a long introduction, sorry,
03:08but you gotta set the stage.
03:14In your own words,
03:16what is Fiscally and what urgent pain points
03:18did you originally aim to solve?
03:22Well, again, thanks for having me.
03:24I think the introduction set the bridge
03:27or set the tone quite well
03:28for what we are doing
03:29and what the vibe behind it is.
03:35It's very hard to explain sometimes what we do,
03:38and I want to make it quite brief
03:39and for everyone to grasp
03:41because we are basically a B2B SaaS company
03:43building cloud-based solutions
03:45for fiscal compliance
03:46or for compliance across Europe.
03:48So, we do this like with a single API approach
03:55and I always say like,
03:56or I tend to say,
03:58our customers,
04:00like the POS providers, retailers,
04:02they build great products,
04:03great experiences,
04:05but what stands often in their way
04:08of growth,
04:08of growing across borders
04:10or entering new markets
04:11is regulation,
04:13fiscal regulation,
04:14compliance.
04:14So, it's often complex,
04:16it's fragmented,
04:17it's a blocker for innovation,
04:19and that's actually where we come in.
04:22I like to say,
04:23we reduce pain as a service.
04:25That's what we do.
04:27We make compliance seamless.
04:29Yes, that's basically like
04:31what Fiscally is,
04:32what Fiscally stands for.
04:34Pain reduction as a service.
04:36I like that one.
04:39Fiscally went from three founders
04:41in Vienna to 90 plus employees,
04:44one million POS integration
04:45in just five years.
04:47What are the key inflection points
04:49along that journey?
04:52Well,
04:53the most important milestone
04:55since we've been founded in 2019
04:59was the certification in Germany
05:00because to have a product in Germany,
05:03you have to be certified
05:04by one of the most,
05:06I would always call them
05:11the end boss of regulation.
05:13It's the BSI in Germany
05:14and they do this quite detailed.
05:18So, basically,
05:19by getting the certification in Germany,
05:21we were able to have a product in Germany
05:23and because we were the only ones
05:26doing this,
05:27we were very disruptive.
05:29It is a hardware-based driven,
05:31hardware-based industry.
05:32We set the tone
05:34doing cloud-based fiscalization
05:36as the first ones in Germany.
05:38So,
05:39that was the most important milestone.
05:41The next ones are obviously
05:42entering new markets
05:43like Spain,
05:44Italy
05:44with the same mindset
05:46being software-based,
05:48software-first
05:48and
05:49being as disruptive as possible
05:51to make it
05:52as easy
05:53and seamless as possible
05:54for the customers.
05:56Who was the entity
05:57that certified you?
05:59In Germany?
06:01Yep.
06:01It's the BSI,
06:03Bundesamt für Sicherheit
06:04in der Informationstechnik.
06:07They were,
06:07in Germany,
06:09the regulation
06:09for fiscal providers
06:11are the Ministry of Finance,
06:13BMF,
06:14and the BSI.
06:15The Ministry of Finance
06:16sets the regulatory standards
06:19when it comes to the law itself,
06:22like which is stated
06:22in the Abgabenordnung in Germany
06:24and the BSI is responsible
06:26for the technical guidelines.
06:28So, the technical solution itself.
06:31Would you say
06:33fiscal compliance
06:34is tax compliance
06:35or more?
06:37It is.
06:37Fiscal compliance is,
06:38I would say,
06:39it's a combination
06:40of
06:40technical complexity.
06:44Like,
06:44you have a product
06:47which is,
06:48in Germany,
06:50which is highly
06:51a technical product,
06:52right?
06:52but there is always,
06:54with fiscal regulation,
06:55obviously,
06:55there is always
06:56tax compliance
06:57and I think
06:58this is basically
06:59like the sweet spot
07:01where regulation hits
07:02because
07:03the regulator,
07:05the governments,
07:06have an incentive
07:07of transactions
07:09being recorded,
07:10you know,
07:10to prevent tax fraud
07:11and to prevent
07:14money laundering
07:16and all which
07:17could happen
07:18at the point of sale
07:19so therefore
07:20they want to regulate
07:20this business.
07:22But you know what?
07:23Even though the state
07:24or the governments
07:25have a very good incentive
07:26or I would say
07:29even an understandable incentive
07:31in doing that,
07:33the implementation of it
07:34is sometimes
07:35really,
07:35really complex
07:36and therefore
07:38I would say
07:40in Germany,
07:41Germany basically
07:42hit the jackpot
07:42on that.
07:43It's so complex
07:44so there was actually
07:44no one
07:45able to doing it
07:48100% software-based
07:49and we were the first ones
07:51trying it
07:52and succeeding
07:52and that's basically
07:53that was
07:54not only the first milestone,
07:56that was basically
07:57what kept us going
08:00and
08:00yeah,
08:01our success story.
08:03So,
08:04what you're doing
08:05is you offer
08:07the
08:08digital
08:09recording
08:10of transactions
08:11in order
08:12for the
08:13for you clients
08:14to provide them
08:14to the tax authorities.
08:17Yes,
08:17so basically
08:18if you're
08:19SumUp
08:20or Bird
08:20Settle
08:21one of our biggest customers
08:23in order to provide
08:25a product
08:26in
08:27for example
08:28Germany
08:28you have to be compliant
08:29with fiscal regulations
08:31and that's
08:32it's
08:32we call it
08:32CTC
08:33continuous transaction control
08:35which is basically
08:36the
08:37mandatory
08:38set of fiscal regulations
08:42and
08:42we are the only ones
08:44who do this
08:44100% software
08:45and
08:46API based
08:47so therefore
08:48one time
08:49integration
08:50with us
08:51and you can basically scale
08:52and
08:54yeah,
08:55that's
08:55that's our promise
08:57and that's why
08:57we're so popular
08:58especially with those
08:59or in this kind of industry.
09:00talk a little bit
09:04about
09:04go to market strategy
09:05and innovation strategy
09:07where was going
09:08cloud first
09:09and API first
09:11in fiscal compliance
09:12such a game changer
09:13especially in hardware
09:14dominated environments
09:15like fiscal tech?
09:18Yeah
09:18I mean
09:19there are two
09:20two aspects
09:21of growth
09:23for us
09:23to growth for us
09:24one is
09:26timing
09:27timing is very
09:28very crucial
09:29because
09:30when we were founded
09:322019 in Germany
09:33the
09:34custom sets
09:35was just implemented
09:35so if
09:37we would come across
09:38right now
09:38it would have been
09:39too late
09:40because you know
09:40the go to market
09:41or the timing
09:42is really
09:44really crucial here
09:45because
09:46since 2020
09:47everyone has to be
09:48compliant in Germany
09:49right
09:50and
09:51if you
09:52are
09:53compliant
09:54with
09:55a fiscal regulation
09:56your need
09:57or your pain
09:58to switch
09:58is not that big
09:59so therefore
10:00you have to be
10:01there
10:02when the law
10:02is basically
10:03implemented
10:03and you have to
10:04have a similar solution
10:05we were
10:07the timing was
10:07perfect for Germany
10:08and therefore
10:09we did the same
10:11or we're trying
10:12to do the same
10:12for Spain
10:13and for Italy
10:13in Spain
10:14it's actually
10:15right now
10:16where this law
10:16is being implemented
10:17so in the next
10:17couple of months
10:18we're going live
10:19here as well
10:20or the law
10:20is being enforced
10:21same for Italy
10:22Italy was actually
10:23one of the first
10:24countries in Europe
10:25to introduce
10:26a fiscal regulation
10:27but as in many
10:28other countries
10:29it was basically
10:30thought very
10:30hardware based
10:31so it is a
10:32hardware based
10:33business
10:33and in Italy
10:35they basically
10:35they are switching
10:38now
10:39they are doing
10:40it basically
10:40like technology
10:43neutral
10:43like in Germany
10:44to also allow
10:45software based
10:46solutions
10:47and therefore
10:48we are also
10:49trying to get
10:51a 100%
10:51seamless
10:52and software
10:52based solution
10:53in Italy
10:53as well
10:54I see
10:58how do you
11:00sign
11:00and receive
11:02work under
11:04the hood
11:04how did you
11:06gain trust
11:07in markets
11:08like Germany
11:09where regulatory
11:10compliance
11:11is complex
11:12and strict
11:13trust
11:14that's actually
11:16a very good
11:16question
11:16because trust
11:17is
11:18I would say
11:19it's one of
11:20the most
11:21important
11:21aspects to
11:23our business
11:23that we gain
11:24trust
11:24and you know
11:25what
11:26we're a startup
11:26now a scale-up
11:27you could say
11:28obviously
11:28because of the
11:29size we have
11:30and the growth
11:31and the sheer
11:32numbers
11:33and to be
11:35being able to
11:36do that
11:36to gain that
11:37trust in that
11:37industry was
11:38I would say
11:39one of the
11:39biggest challenges
11:40but the promise
11:41was so
11:43like
11:44what we promised
11:45was so good
11:46right
11:46because
11:47it is such
11:48a pain
11:49fiscalization
11:50is such a pain
11:51to do it
11:53like hardware
11:53based
11:54and stuff
11:54like that
11:54so we said
11:56you know
11:56what
11:56we take
11:57this complex
11:57regulation
11:58and we
11:59will transform
12:01it into a
12:01seamless
12:02cloud-based
12:03solution
12:03trust us
12:05right
12:05so that was
12:06basically the
12:06promise
12:06and you know
12:07what
12:07until the
12:09certification
12:102021
12:11it was like
12:14it was like
12:15sometimes
12:18you know
12:18you tell
12:20yourself
12:20things like
12:21that often
12:21enough
12:22that you
12:22will make
