00:00Hi there! This is the G sound as in the words GO, GET and GIVE.
00:13The G sound is from the Consonant Pairs group and is called the Voiced Velar Stop.
00:23This means that you use the back of your tongue to block air flow from the throat.
00:29The G sound is made through the mouth and is a voiced sound which means that you use
00:35your vocal cords to make the sound.
00:38It is defined by the position of your tongue and it is a stop sound which is a sound made
00:44by building up air pressure by stopping air flow and then releasing it.
00:50In this case you stop the air flow between the middle of your tongue and the top of your
00:56mouth.
00:57To produce the sound, push your tongue forward so the middle curls up and touches the top
01:03of the mouth, blocking the air flow.
01:06At the same time, create some air pressure by gently trying to breathe out and then the
01:12sound is made by voicing out and releasing the air pressure by dropping the tongue.
01:18The G sound is normally spelled with the letter G as in the words GOOD, GIRL, BUT it can also
01:38be spelled with the letter X as in the words EXACTLY and EXAMPLE.
