00:00G'day Gary
00:28Yeah, see you are in Fiji mate
00:32Yeah, I finally to made it
00:33Three days ago
00:34That's cool, well talk about your epic approach
00:37Yeah
00:38But anyway, how do you feel, where you're at?
00:41Yeah I'm feeling pretty good
00:42I'm still a bit sore and sorry
00:45Not sorry sorry but a bit achy
00:46Muscles and all that for getting tossed around for quite a few days
00:50Ah but no I'm feeling good, feeling fit, feeling happy
00:54My wife's here now so that's even better
00:56So, it's all good
01:31Oui, oui, c'est great.
01:32Oui, donc, tu as tu as tu as l'as vu, c'est une chose qui a l'as vu.
01:42Oui.
02:23J'ai pu mettre ça, j'ai pu mettre, on y'a pu mettre,
02:25et j'ai pu mettre ça en plus,
02:26et je me suis dit.
02:29C'est ma turn corrects,
02:31j'ai eu pris l'opportunité
02:32et je me suis dit, oui.
02:34Oh maintenant, vous avez été en voie치를
03:12Une bonne partie de l'up de l'up de l'up de l'up de l'up.
04:06pretty, ah, pretty good, and if I get around the other side I'll be a few hundred miles
04:10in front of everybody, you know. And then I got to the northern end and the wind
04:13just died and it didn't come back. I've lost the track how many days, it was eight
04:17or ten days I was floating around going nowhere basically. Yeah, I gotta say,
04:22when were doing the tracker updates I was saying, this is a bold move but it
04:24could work out OK, for a while I was the same as, and she said, that might just work.
04:28Yeah. But it just didn't work. Well when,
04:30when I hit the no wind I started drifting north towards Hawaii and I
09:41D'aller...
09:42So, you're far enough into it now to sort of have a good understanding of what the MGR
09:45means.
09:46Yeah.
09:47Even though the next leg changes again.
09:48Yeah.
09:49So, is it delivering what you expected?
09:50You know, like, has it been fun or too much hard work or you know, how do you feel?
09:54I think sometimes when you're there at you, you to think, Oh, this is too hard, you
09:58know?
09:59Then like you said to me the other week, you said you'll get to land and there'll be a
10:02few weeks a work on land and it'll all be great fun, ya know, sort of thing.
11:16Et je me disais, je me disais, je me disais, je me disais, je me disais, je me disais,
11:3630, 40 knots, you know, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, the um, uh, the Starlink, Starlink's a big issue for everyone, yeah, I think you got yours in Panama as well, yeah, I bought Starlink, well, everyone bought them in Panama, I think, yeah, 200 bucks, yeah, so, um, yeah, Starlink's good, but once again, it, it uses a fair bit of power, I think, you know, and, um, it's nice to be able to talk on the phone, you know, I didn't do video calls, I didn't do too many video calls, just mainly talking on the phone, with my wife and friends and, and whatnot,
12:06and, um, you know, you can download movies and all that sort of stuff, and I could get weather, like, from Antigua to Panama, I had no weather, because the rhythm go wasn't working properly, all this sort of stuff, you know, and, um, that's pretty important, I think, just for your psychology, you'd see in windy, you know, get a bit of idea of the weather, um, yeah, but, yeah, definitely, it's a game changer, for sure, it certainly makes your life a lot easier, yeah, but once again, it can take 40 minutes to log on sometimes, you know, and that's when you, I start abusing Elon Musk, you know, because,
12:36you know, not that he can hear me, but, you know, but, um, yeah, so, no, it is a game changer, for sure, yeah, I think they need to develop something specific for boats, though, you know, because all this stuff they've got now is basically for people who are going, you know, please put the, please put the Starling flat, you know, on the ground, all this sort of stuff, you know.
12:54Well, that's a, that's a, yeah, I mean, they've got the marine one, but it's two and a half grand, and it's big, and it's ten amps, and all that stuff.
12:59Oh, that's right, I saw the, a bloke who was rowing around the world, and I met in Hiva, oh, he's rowing around the world in a little boat, he had the big one, which was, he said, this one's the proper ocean one sort of thing, but.
13:09Yeah, yeah.
13:09But, yeah, no, it's good, I like, I like the Starling, and, um, yeah, no, happy with that.
13:13Yeah, so, I mean, physically, you're looking pretty cool, not that you weren't when you first arrived at your boat, how do you feel, like, physically?
13:20I feel great, yeah, I mean, I've lost a hell of a lot of weight, I've done weighed myself.
13:24How much weight do you reckon in your life?
13:25I reckon minimum 15 kilos, maybe.
13:28Yeah, 15 kilos?
13:29Yeah, possibly more.
13:31I mean, I was, I'm not tall, but I'm quite stocky, I suppose, and I was a hundred and, 104, 105 kilos when I left Sydney.
13:40I reckon now I'm, I think I'm under 90, I think, probably, maybe, maybe, yeah.
13:45You look good now.
13:46Yeah, I feel good, yeah, I mean, there's a bit of floppy skin down here where their fat used to be,
13:50No way I can beat you on that one.
13:52But, um, yeah, no, yeah, I think, and because I had my knee operations, you know, 18, well, nearly, yeah, 18 months ago,
13:59it's good for that as well, you know, they've been unreal, it's just, I'm amazed how, how good those, you know, the knees are now.
14:05Yeah, but, no, losing the weight, I've been trying to do it for years, you know, and you get off the beer, and you start to lose a bit,
14:11and, oh, it's bloody hot, Dad, like a beer, and, you know, the, you know, the beer's, like, beer and bread, that's two things for me,
14:16which are two things I love, anyway.
14:19Yeah, yeah, exactly.
14:21Okay, so, um, and what about your management of food, and, and so on, on?
14:25Yeah, I'm not real good with that, to be honest, I, yeah, I, um, lots of tin food, you know, I buy fresh food, you know,
14:32but it only lasts a week, two weeks, you know, and, and, um, I like cooking my carried sausages, I think everybody knows about that,
14:40but, um, yeah, I just seem to open up the thing, and go, oh, jeez, there's nothing to eat, nothing.
14:45Hey, Mum, what's to eat?
14:46Yeah, nothing nice to eat, you know, and I've got all these tins of bloody pasta sauce, and all sorts of stuff,
14:50which I've never bothered even opening, um, and John, John, um, Blenkinsop said to me,
14:56you've just got to get heaps of snacks, you know, just take heaps of snacks, and, so I did that last time,
15:01and they run out after about a week, sort of thing, and Eric, Eric, he just eats dried food, I don't know how he does that,
15:06for his dried food, I can't stand that stuff, it's horrible.
15:08No matter what's written on the label, it all tastes the same, you know.
15:12Yep, got the cardboard.
15:13Yeah, so, you know, I'll get better at that, but, um, yeah, it's, um,
15:17Yep.
15:17It's hard, though, it is hard, yeah, to get stuff that's good for you, number one.
15:22I mean, I've got big tins of mixed veggies, you know, all that sort of stuff, so I eat, I eat well,
15:26but when it's rough, it's really hard to cook as well, but, um, yeah, so food management could be a bit better.
15:32Yeah, so what's the key to the entertainment, what are you doing there?
15:36What are you doing there, to keep your mind sort of off the list?
15:39Oh, I've been reading lots of books, yeah, and I really, I'm not a big reader, um, I don't read at all, really,
15:45but, um, I've read, I've read five books so far, which is like a world record for me, interesting books,
15:51and, yeah, so, um, that, and obviously I've downloaded some series on Netflix, um, Blacklist, and what was the other, Yellowstone,
16:00and try not to watch too much, you sort of get into a bit of a zone, and, because it's on, you know, you get there and you watch one,
16:06oh, I've got to watch the next one, next thing you know, you've watched four in a row sort of thing, you know, so,
16:10but, um, just that sort of stuff, you know, and trying to watch the weather and watch the clouds a little bit,
16:16and I don't know a lot about that, to be honest, but you try to just look what the clouds are like today
16:22and what happens tomorrow, you know, so, a bit of that stuff.
16:24Yeah, yeah, you're a young fellow like me, how old are you?
16:2763.
16:2863.
16:2864 in August, yeah.
16:29So, you're not technically retired, you're just taking a holiday.
16:32Yeah, I, yeah, I'll go back to work, you know, for sure, um, I enjoy what I do, and, you know,
16:37I've spent a lot of money on this thing, so, all my super's gone now, so, so, uh, yeah, so, yeah, yeah,
16:44I've got no intention of retiring, I think if you retire, well, I won't work as much, I don't think,
16:50you know, and try and use the little boat when it's back home, and I said to my wife, you know,
16:54we can, I said, we've got to go one, every month, we've got to go one three-day, you know,
16:59weekend on the boat, you know, pit water or the harbour or whatever, and one Sunday, but
17:03I've got to get her a bit better, the seasickness thing first, I think, but, um, yeah, so, there'll
17:08be that, and still get into work, yeah, definitely, yeah.
17:11Yeah, cool, yeah.
17:12So, um, okay, so, uh, physically you look healthy and everything, did you dip into the first aid kit
17:17very much?
17:17Uh, I had this thing on my leg here, yeah, it started off as a little, it looked like
17:23a ringworm, and then it just started growing and going, and it got about, like, probably
17:2875 mil diameter, yeah, and it was just like, it was like a fungus sort of thing, I think,
17:34and it was eating all the dead skin, I don't know, but I just got the dactaran out and put
17:38that on, yeah, and, um, that seemed to look after it, and then it kept sort of coming back
17:42a bit, but I've got rid of it now, and it had a bit of a stuff on my feet, but, yeah, no,
17:46that's, yeah, and then my first aid kit's pretty much the only thing to come out of
17:50is the dactaran, basically, yeah, yeah, and what about your water management, what was
17:54you doing there?
17:54Yeah, what was good, yeah.
17:55Yeah, how did you carry, how much did you carry?
17:56I took 184 litres from Panama, um, yeah, about that, I think, because I had some of those
18:06four litre plastic bottles as well, and drums, yeah, no, I got in with, I mean, I had two
18:11fresh water showers, I think, and did a bit of washing.
18:14Two?
18:14Yeah, yeah, yeah.
18:16That's cool.
18:17Something like that, and I had lots of salt water ones, you know, but, yeah, with dishwashing
18:21liquid, because that's the only soap I had.
18:23Did you catch much water?
18:25No, I didn't, no, I didn't bother, I didn't think I thought I needed to, really, and, yeah,
18:30I didn't, I didn't get rained on a lot, I mean, everyone else was getting pounded by rain,
18:34they were a fair way ahead of me, especially coming off from, coming from Panama to the
18:38Marquesas, I only had rain, really, the last three days, when I was, the rest of the time
18:44was sunshine the whole way, pretty well, yeah, it would be cloudy, you know, yeah, yeah,
18:47so I didn't get a lot of rain, the whole trip I haven't had a lot of rain, to be honest,
18:51yeah, yeah, yeah.
18:52Okay, so, and, you, how do you feel now that you're here this far, what's in your thought
19:00process, because I know you haven't sort of committed to the next half, you know, you
19:03want to try and explain, you know, what's going on?
19:06No answers, just where you're at, it's an interesting process, because I can see
19:12Yeah, it's a, it's all, Fiji's always been a fork in the road, you know, I always knew
19:18I was going to get to Fiji, and, um, make a decision then, and that's been really tough
19:23on my wife, it has, and it's been tough on me, the isolation, I have, I thought I would
19:28handle it a lot better than I did, um, and it's funny, because she was always determined
19:39that I would probably come home from Fiji, and now she's sort of started saying, if you,
19:44you know, would you go on, and I'm going, hang on, you know, you're trying to get rid
19:49of me or what, um, and I, yeah, I'm just, I'm a bit torn at the moment, to be honest, I
19:54can't, I can't give a definite decision right now, um, I've told a few people back home
20:00what my decision is, but it could change, so, yeah, I don't know, I can't, yeah, it's
20:05a nice place, this one, and it's finally catching up to the whole team, yeah, yeah, and everyone
20:10in the, everyone, everyone in the race is sort of, you know, you're with us now, we'll
20:14all be good, we're going forward, we'll all be together, and I'm going, well, yeah, maybe,
20:18sort of thing, I just don't want to, until I've made a firm decision, I'll, I'll just keep
20:23it to myself, sort of thing, you know, yeah, I know which way I'm leaning, yeah, and I
20:27do miss home a lot, a lot, and I miss my wife a lot, yeah, and my boys, you know, and everyone
20:32really, you miss a lot, but everyone's going through that as well, you know, I mean, I'm
20:35not the only one, absolutely, um, and Ertin all said to me, oh, the starting could make
20:39a difference, you know, but it's not the same, you know, as holding your wife, you know,
20:42or whatever, you know, so, yeah, you know, it's interesting, the best thing that's ever
20:46happened is that you're going home for a couple of weeks, yeah, that'll, that'll set the
20:49scene, yeah, and the biggest, the biggest challenge, you know, because I, you know, I've, as you
20:53know, I've done lots of different adventures and something other, but you're always faced
20:56with that decision, oh, something, if you pull out now, where's the regret, yeah, because
21:00I've got to tell you, you're more than capable sailor-wise, and boat-wise, you're more than
21:04capable to carry on, I mean, I, I, I, I feel in myself now, I don't have anything to prove
21:09to anybody, that's right, yeah, I've done, you know, 8,000 miles roughly, I think, something
21:14like that, and, you know, if I go home, it'll be nearly 10,000 miles, if I go around the world,
21:17it'll be 26,000 miles, I don't think I'm going to, even to myself, I'm going to prove
21:22to myself, yeah, I could, um, I think I could, I think I could be mid-range competitive, you
21:30know, I don't think I'm up with, I don't think I'm up with Renault, I'm not just not that committed
21:33as those guys are, but I think I could, I could be with the fleet, you know, um, only circumstances
21:40put me so far behind, I think, and the, you know, the other, other legs, uh, yeah, so, yeah,
21:47I'm torn at the moment, to be honest, yeah, it's good, you know, I always look at Urton,
21:50you know, because as you know, Urton joined the 20, 2018 GGR, and lasted a week, yeah,
21:55he missed the family, he then did the 22 GGR, and he sailed all the way down to Cape Town,
21:59and Cape Town, the boat's good, everything's good, he could keep going, but he said, nah,
22:03it's answered all my questions, yeah, yeah, he's still missing the family, so he, he retired
22:07in Cape Town, and then immediately got into the MGR, and I have no doubt he's going around,
22:11because he's got Starlink, you know, yeah, yeah, no, he's definitely committed, you know,
22:15and the thing is, with all the other people, like Josh, and, and all that, not so much Eric
22:20and Dan, but they're pretty close to home when they get there, I mean, with all the,
22:24oh, they're all going home, yeah, they're just across the, they're sailing home, yeah,
22:27so they're not, and the Atlantic, it's not that far across the Atlantic, I suppose, but,
22:31well, there's a fair way, it's 3,000 miles, but, um, it's funny saying that now,
22:34it's not that far, yeah, I know what you mean, but, um, and then, I mean, John and Mike are
22:41coming here, you know, so I'm looking forward to them arriving, and, and, well, Mike's definitely
22:46not going on, I don't know about John, I don't, I think he's a bit like me, he's, he's a bit
22:49torn, you know, oh, no, I, I, it's funny, you know, I don't think I can say this, because
22:53John will probably see it, but he's lost a bit of spark at the moment, yeah, you see his videos,
22:58he's lost an element, and I, I'm convinced that he's, he's desperate to keep going, but it's a money
23:02thing, you know, that's understandable as well, well, same with me, I've got, yeah, money's
23:05important, I haven't got very much money at all, you know, and, um, yeah, I've been lucky
23:09with people, you know, so far, and, and, and, and I've been worried about telling people
23:15that, who have supported me, that I mightn't carry on, you know, I'm coming home, and, and
23:20the major guys who sponsored me, I've told them, and they've been amazing, you know, it's,
23:24it's the same thing, you've got nothing to prove, you know, if you need, if you need to come
23:28home because of your health, or your, or your, yeah, your, your, your, whatever, you know,
23:32that's, then I was worried that I might, there might be an issue there, but they've supported
23:36me, whatever way I go, sort of thing, so that's really good, you know, yeah, and friends too,
23:40same thing, I've, I've spoken to lots of people about it, you know, in, um, over the last few
23:46weeks, sort of thing, you know, and I've chatted to them on the phone, and whatnot, or emails,
23:49yeah, what's that, you know, the MGR, this is a whole aspect that we don't talk about as
23:55much as we do in the GGR, and all the big events, and this, that, and the other, because this
23:59has got stopovers, and we're all, I think we're all in awe, and amazed at the, all you guys
24:04sailing around the world like this, but yeah, there's a lot involved, and, and, um, there's
24:08a lot of pressure in terms of so many different subjects, so, but at the end of the day, the
24:13best part is throwing your hat in the ring to see what it's all about, yeah, yeah, I think
24:17finance is the biggest one, money's the biggest, biggest issue to, for most people, really,
24:23that, I've talked to everybody, and everyone's pretty tight for money, I think, sort of thing,
24:27and, um, it's a big decision for you guys, because once you get out of here, you've got
24:31to ship the boat home, it's not, you know, I could say a throwaway line, it's, oh, it's
24:35not hard to get to Antigua, you don't need a lot of money there, but when you get there,
24:37then you've got to boat over there, yeah, and no way in the world would I sail back to Australia
24:42again for Antigua, oh, why not, I mean, I would go and say, I'd go south of Galapagos this
24:48time, that's for sure, and, um, yeah, yeah, so, yeah, yeah, anyway, time will tell, you know,
24:55so, what's happened to the boat, anything broken, damaged, anything, nothing at all?
24:58No, no, nothing's broken, um, no, nothing's broken, yeah, rig's all good, so I put a hole
25:06in the main sail, yeah, being an idiot, I was shagging the reef out, you know, and I got
25:12it, you know, like, I started winding the windshield going, jeez, that's tight, because
25:16sometimes it's a bit tight in the track, yeah, and I look up, and the bloody, I had the sail
25:20tie through the sail kringle, and around the boom, and it's really tight, and I, I should
25:25have just let the jammer go, but I went up and pulled the sail tie, idiot, and it just,
25:29poof, got a hole about this big in it, you know, but, anyway, I got it fixed in Narcos,
25:33it's just a patch on it, so I'll get it, it did a good job, but, yeah, other than that,
25:37yeah, no, nothing, nothing, everything, everything, yeah, I can't think of anything, yeah.
25:42What about the heat, like, it looked bloody hot on the boat, and you've got water over
25:46the boat, you've got to button it up, and, yeah, try and, you know, give us a feel for
25:51that. Well, the heat in the doldrums was unbelievable, like, my, my thermometer in the boat goes to
25:5640 degrees, and it was way past that downstairs, and I'm thinking, okay, I can sit down here
26:01in 42, 43 degrees, or I can sit up there in 45 degrees in the sun, you know, what do you
26:06do, and, um, you're always pouring different buckets of water over yourself, so that was, that
26:11was pretty impressive, yeah, but coming into here, I was freezing cold, I had, like,
26:16tracksuit pants, my full wet weather gear, jumpers, and everything on, yeah, it was
26:20funny, it was cold, yeah, Pila was the first one we saw, because it's not that hot, it's
26:24not that cold, but because you guys have been so hot for so long, Pila turns up,
26:27he's got full wet weather gear, and all the rest of it, and we're out in t-shirt and shorts,
26:30and, well, it's cool, but, yeah, yeah, well, coming through Pass of Avow, and, yeah, it was, it was,
26:35coming right across from Tahiti, it was, it wasn't hot at all, really, it was just
26:41really pleasant, really, it was nice, yeah, but then, yeah, this last, the last five or
26:45four or five days, five or six days, it was, it was cold, yeah, I was surprised how
26:49cold it was, but it was all that weather coming up from way down south, those,
26:52those winds coming from way down south, but, um, it was, it was icy, yeah, well, not icy,
26:57but, you know, a lot colder than I've been in the last, you know, 12 months, I suppose, and
27:02now we're going back to Sydney, and there's an intense low pressure, I don't know if we'll
27:05get back tonight, but, honestly, in the plane, whether they might divert us, I don't know,
27:09there's a big low, East Coast low, in the, off Sydney, so that'll be interesting.
27:13Yep, so what do you, what do you make saying, because I know you've got a, you've got a
27:17truckload of mates, you know, in the industry, and friends, and this and the other, they've been...
27:20Yeah, yeah, no, I've got so much support, it's been unreal, yeah, everyone's sending me
27:24Whatsapps, and Messenger, and, yeah, no, I think, yeah, a lot of people are, well, I'm not impressed,
27:30you know, but, yeah, pretty happy with what I've done, and, and congratulating, all this sort of stuff,
27:35you know, so... Just immediately flip it to all the people who are telling you you're crazy when
27:39they said we're doing it, like, did you tell them straight away what you're doing when you
27:42bought the plans, like... Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, you're an idiot, you know, you're gonna die,
27:48you know, I said you're a long time dead, you know, so, and, yeah, most people were, let's say,
27:56sceptical, I suppose, because I haven't done it, you know, I've sailed, I've done ocean passages
28:02and stuff before, but I'm bigger boats with other people, you know, never in command sort of thing,
28:05and, um, a lot of people sort of, were sceptical, and, yeah, that some people are great, oh, I'm
28:11really, you know, it's fantastic, what are you doing, and, and, so I haven't heard from many of
28:15the naysayers, to be honest, you know, that said I was an idiot, and, um, only the ones that jokingly
28:19said I was an idiot, you know, and, um, yeah, everyone's been really cool, it's been great, yeah, yeah,
28:24and I, I think I told you before, but my mate Kyle, who I shared a workshop with, he said no one cares about
28:29it anymore, they always ask him what it was, how's Gary going, where is he, what's he doing,
28:34yeah, yeah, that'll be, that'll be true, so, what are you looking forward to in Sydney when you get there?
28:39Oh, my, our bed, our nice bed, and just some nice home-cooked meals, because you don't have them,
28:48like in, in Hever, some Aussie guys invited me onto their boat, and they cooked dinner, and it was the
28:53first home-cooked meal I'd had since, you know, I'd left home, and, you know, well, I cooked a few things,
28:58but, you know, sausages and that, but, um, yeah, that, and catching up with friends, and I've got a lot
29:03to do, I've got a lot of stuff to do in Sydney, um, I've mainly been with my family, you know,
29:08my sisters and everything, and family coming over next weekend.
29:13Yeah, cool, okay, so, uh, we're all just about to wrap it up, anything else you want to get across,
29:19you know? No, just thanks to everybody, you know, who supported me, even people I don't know,
29:23you know, like, so many people want to become your friend on Facebook, and you can't friend
29:28everybody, you know, so, sorry to all those people that I didn't, um, yeah, just everyone that supported
29:34me more than anything, whether it be moral support, financial support, gear support, all that sort of
29:40stuff, you know, and it's been great. Yeah, yeah, well, you've done really well, eh, it was an interesting
29:45story, because I've said it before in the last one, a few months before the start of the race,
29:50there's no way you could have made it, I looked at it, I said to Jane so often, like,
29:54oh, poor Gary, not going to make it, you know, but you did, and you're here. I'm pretty, I'm pretty,
29:59I'm a pretty determined person, and persistent, my wife will tell you that, and I was, yeah,
30:04according to her, I was really persistent, but, um, yeah, so, you know, it's, um,
30:11yeah, I doubted myself a lot along the way too, you know, and when I rang you and said,
30:15look, I'm not going to make Portugal, and, um, I don't think I'm going to make it,
30:19and then you gave me the offer of going to Antigua, I thought, right, all guns blazing now,
30:24you know, get the boat finished, so, yeah. Yeah, well, I'm really glad, because, in fact,
30:27I feel quite, I feel for some of the 580 builders that were also trying to get to the start, yeah,
30:33and just physically they missed out, yeah, and then they've got to look at the transit, yeah,
30:38or like Alenka, you know, in Australia, yeah, she was, she was trying really hard, and, and same
30:43thing, it all comes down to finances, and then she had, she got a job, you know, and she was just busy,
30:48busy, busy, busy, and, yeah, I've seen where she was building the boat, oh yeah, under a tarp now,
30:52yeah, under a tarp in a swamp, basically, absolutely, it's an amazing story, yeah, you know, um,
30:57I forget what her Facebook thing is, but anyone following this wants to see an amazing epic,
31:01this is a young lady who's, yeah, never really, I think she said she'd never built an IKEA table before,
31:07yeah, yeah, she's doing it all solo, yeah, yeah, and the boat's looking good, and she's had floods,
31:11and the boat literally floated away, yeah, yeah, well it is, it's, it's literally a swamp, when she,
31:16when she's building it, and there's, you know, there's tea trees everywhere, yeah, well she's a,
31:19she's a prime example, but there's many out there, yeah, building their boats, so, yeah,
31:23anyway, we'll see what happens in 29, yeah, there's lots of guys at the start that I thought were
31:28going to do the MGR, and, and they just thought they didn't hear from them for all, again, I suppose,
31:33and, and, um, yeah, but there's, as you said, there's a few more in Australia building at the moment,
31:39yeah, yeah, yeah, there's a heap there, I've lost track, I think there must be 15 boats building in Australia,
31:43yeah, yeah, and you become friends with people, it's nice, you know, like, we went up to Brisbane to, um,
31:48because all our masks come in together to Brisbane, so, I met Robert, Robert Millard, Millard,
31:54he's, so I picked him up at the airport, yeah, and then we met Alank and John and, and John and Mike,
31:59and then we went up to Noosa and saw their boats, and yeah, it was really, it was a nice, it was a nice day
32:03sort of thing, you know, so, and you come, and all these people in the race, it's nice, you become
32:08friends with these people, and you've all got a similar outlook on life, I suppose, and even though
32:12you're totally different people, but you've all got this outlook. Yeah, right there, everyone's in it for
32:17similar but different reasons, and the whole builders group, and they're building internationally,
32:21like the global network of builders, it's quite phenomenal, yeah, so, uh, and it's encouraging,
32:26because there's a very low dropout rate, yeah, very low rate of someone who buys a set of plans,
32:32starts building their boat, and then decides that it's not for them, yeah, it's hugely low,
32:35usually it's massive, but it's fun, anyway, that's another story, we digress, yeah, yeah, yeah,
32:40anyway, congratulations, Gary, good job, well done, mate, thank you, and we'll, uh, because either way,
32:45you're coming back, because your boat's here to see you, yeah, yeah, yeah, whatever happens,
32:48I'm going to be here till, yeah, yeah, yeah, if I kick off again till the 26th, if I don't kick off
32:53again, whenever Mike's ready to sail back to Australia, and depends on, maybe John, if John's
32:58going to do the same thing, yeah, yeah, we'll go together, okay, Jane, should Gary continue on to Antigua?
33:04Yes, he said yes, you're going to be in trouble if you don't, yeah, all right, thanks, mate,
33:09we'll, uh, we'll look forward to, uh, your decisions later, okay, good, thanks, Don, thank you.
33:39Thank you.
