The story revolves around Max Baron, a young advertising executive played by James Spader, who is still grieving the loss of his wife. He meets Nora Baker, a beautiful waitress in her 40s played by Susan Sarandon, at a diner called White Palace. Despite their age difference and contrasting backgrounds, they form a deep connection over their shared experiences of loss.
