Transcript
00:00The gentleman is recognized.
00:10Mr. Speaker, I rise today to demand that Donald Trump and our Attorney General come clean to the American people and release the Epstein files.
00:19Now, this weekend, Donald Trump said, and I quote,
00:23let's not waste time and energy on Jeffrey Epstein, somebody that nobody cares about.
00:28Well, Mr. President, a lot of people actually care.
00:32And we know that MAGA was all in on Jeffrey Epstein.
00:36Now, my Republican colleagues have sent letters, they've posted, they've demanded disclosure.
00:42Donald Trump Jr., the President's own son, has tweeted dozens of times about this case.
00:48FBI Director Cash Patel swore under oath in front of the Senate that he would be transparent with the American public and release the Epstein files.
00:57He said, and I want to quote, make sure the American public knows the full weight of what happened, that he would do that.
01:06That was his quote.
01:08Now, in February, our Attorney General, Pam Bondi, told Fox News that Epstein's client list was, again, and I quote,
01:15sitting on my desk right now to review, end quote.
01:19Now, they claim there was never a list.
01:23And this weekend, Donald Trump claimed that the files were written by Obama, Hillary Clinton, and the Biden administration.
01:30These are bizarre reversals.
01:33And it's obvious to the American public.
01:36Someone is lying, and someone is trying to hide something.
01:40So let's look at the facts.
01:42We know Elon Musk said publicly on June 5th that Donald Trump is mentioned in the Epstein files.
01:48We know that Epstein died in a federal prison overseen by Donald Trump's Department of Justice.
01:55We know that Jeffrey Epstein in 2008 was given a generous non-prosecution agreement for sex trafficking charges.
02:02Now, that agreement let him continue his criminal activities, and that agreement was offered by Alexander Acosta, who was Donald Trump's chosen Secretary of Labor.
02:13That's not all.
02:15We know that Donald Trump and Epstein had a long-standing personal relationship.
02:21Epstein told one writer, and I quote,
02:24I was Donald Trump's closest friend for 10 years, end quote.
02:30Donald Trump told New York Magazine in 2002, and I want to quote this.
02:36Quote, this is Donald Trump.
02:38I've known Jeff for 15 years.
02:41Terrific guy.
02:42He's a lot of fun to be with.
02:44It's even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do.
02:48And many of them are on the younger side.
02:51No doubt about it.
02:52Jeffrey enjoys his social life, unquote.
02:55That's disgusting, wrong, and we must inquire more information.
03:01The truth is we don't know what the facts are in this case.
03:06Now, I can't explain why the Trump administration have changed their minds on Epstein.
03:12But their behavior raises questions.
03:15This is the time that we must demand answers.
03:20And the Oversight Committee is going to do just that.
03:24And I yield back.
03:25The gentleman yields back.
