Date revealed for major Monument Place overhaul

The major revamp of a busy Liverpool corridor worth millions of pounds is expected to begin at the start of next year.

00:00A major multi-million pound transformation is coming to one of Liverpool's busiest corridors

00:06right here in the heart of the city's emerging fabric district.

00:11Liverpool City Councils approved plans for a £6 million rebound of Monument Place

00:16promising better transport links, new public spaces and a boost for this growing neighbourhood.

00:21Liverpool Councils signed off on what's being described as a transformational scheme

00:26linking Lime Street to the University of Liverpool and Kensington.

00:30At the heart of it is a £3.4 million investment matched by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority.

00:37Together they'll deliver a redesigned Monument Place with dedicated bus priority lanes,

00:43upgraded traffic signals and improved reliability for key routes running through the area.

00:49Plans also include new paving, rain gardens and better walking and cycling links

00:54all aimed at strengthening the identity of the fabric district

00:57and connecting it more effectively to Liverpool's wider active travel network.

01:02The project forms part of a larger partnership between the City Council and the Combined Authority

01:07and includes improvements to public realm upgrades.

01:12The scheme's being developed by design firms Mark MacDonald and LDA Design

01:16working alongside the fabric district CIC.

01:19Designs are now at REBA Stage 2 following months of stakeholder input and public consultation.

01:25Constructions expected to begin in early 2026

01:29with the entire project set to be completed by the end of that year.

01:33And when it's done, the newly transformed Monument Place will link directly

01:37into wider city centre upgrades including the future redevelopment of St George's Gateway
