00:00What lies ahead for Son Heung-min at Tottenham Hotspur as a new chapter begins under Thomas
00:08Frank?
00:09The South Korean captain remains one of the most influential figures at the club and his
00:14role could evolve significantly as Spurs reshape their identity under new leadership.
00:21With Frank taking over following last season's Europa League success, there's real intrigue
00:27over how he'll utilise Son in a system known for its tactical structure and collective
00:32discipline.
00:33While recruitment is a key focus this summer, maintaining the core leadership group led by
00:38Son will be just as vital in ensuring stability during the transition.
00:43On a personal note, the forward will want to improve his form as Spurs make their Champions
00:48League return.
00:50We caught up with James Trenbath of London World to assess what Frank's arrival might
00:54mean for the Spurs skipper.
00:57Will Son remain central to the team's plans not just for his goals and assists, but for
01:02his example off the pitch?
01:04Will there be another plan in place for him this campaign?
01:08James, let's just look at Heung-min Son.
01:12We've obviously mentioned a few times last season during the campaign that there was a
01:17bit of uncertainty around his future at Spurs.
01:19He's obviously made sure he became that Spurs legend and got that tag after helping deliver
01:25that Europa League triumph at the back end of the season.
01:29What's the stance on Heung-min Son at the moment?
01:31What do you feel he's thinking as well?
01:34Obviously Spurs fans, nothing but love really for him.
01:38He stuck around when it was really tough and became this world-class player in North
01:43Under.
01:44Yeah.
01:45I mean, you know, Heung-min Son is a legend.
01:47You know, an absolute legend of the club.
01:49And actually, on the day eventually when it does come and he does depart Spurs, I think
01:54that's going to be more upsetting to a lot of Spurs fans than when Harry Kane left.
01:58And I think that tells you everything, obviously.
02:00Harry Kane, record goal scorer, absolute icon at the club.
02:02But, you know, Son is stuck with us.
02:04He came in for an absolute bargain when you look at it back in the day there over 10 years
02:09ago.
02:09You know, 22 million, I think it was at the time.
02:11And he's just been an absolute goal machine and assist machine.
02:15And, you know, just his model professionalism is just exemplary, isn't he?
02:19On and off the pitch, idolised by all the fans.
02:22And, you know, we know he struggled last season.
02:24He had a lot of difficulties.
02:26He wasn't fit.
02:27Not sure the system particularly suited him in the end that Andrew was playing.
02:32And if anybody has the right to decide what comes next, it's absolutely Hummin Son.
02:36You know, I think all fans would agree he deserves to be sort of the gatekeeper of his
02:40own destiny, really.
02:42That said, I think it's interesting, actually, that he's still here.
02:46We've obviously got the upcoming tour to Korea, where he'll obviously get a lot of love from
02:51the Spurs fans.
02:51I dare say there'll be some marketing, contractual arrangements within that as well.
02:56But I suspect, and this is just a personal opinion now, that actually Son may well stay
03:01on at least until January.
03:03I have a feeling he fancies one more crack at the Champions League.
03:06He wants to see what Thomas Frank has in store for him.
03:08And then, you know, come January, it may well be he's got six months left on his contracts
03:13at that period.
03:14You know, it may be then he heads off to the likes of MLS or Saudi Arabia.
03:19We'll obviously know where we are in terms of the Champions League all, but, you know,
03:22there'll be just one group game left after Christmas.
03:24So, come January, we'll know where we are with Spurs, and he will.
03:29And that may well be the time that he then says his farewells.
03:32But I can see him giving us another six months and just reviewing it after that.
03:35And, you know, I think that'd be a good move.
03:37He could help the transition from, you know, new manager and help bed in some of the younger
03:43players in the squad.
03:44And then he can look to decide what he's going to do in the future.
03:47But I don't see him signing another contract at Spurs.
03:49I mean, he turned 33 this week.
03:51So, he's certainly coming towards the twilight years.
03:53But, you know, the way Thomas Frank sets up may well suit him.
03:56And, you know, you've seen with the likes of Mohamed Salah.
03:58When people started doubting Salah, he comes back with a bang.
04:01And, you know, certainly very, very early to be writing Sonoff because he's a Premier
04:06League icon and a real legend.
04:08So, it'll be very, very interesting.
04:10But I suspect he might well stay on for another six months.
04:13So, you know, hopefully if he does stay with us, then we can see the best of him.
04:17Because, you know, I think if he wants to go, you've got the high of lifting the trophy
04:21in the Europa League, obviously, last season, which, you know, he absolutely deserved.
04:26But then there's that caveat around his form last year.
04:28So, you know, I have the opinion he might well want to leave, you know, with a better
04:33goal and assist record than he had last season, let's say.
04:36And, you know, leave with memories of that rather than that sort of declining form sort
04:40of mantra that people are sort of levelling with him at the moment.
