Police will facilitate the Himpunan Turun Anwar rally set to take place in Kuala Lumpur on July 26, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
Speaking after the Home Ministry’s monthly assembly on Wednesday (July 16), Saifuddin said the move is to ensure the safety and security of all participants, even though organisers are no longer legally required to notify police in advance, following a recent Federal Court ruling that deemed Section 9(5) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 — which penalised failure to give advance notice — as unconstitutional.
While acknowledging that the ruling poses challenges for security planning, Saifuddin assured that the police will manage the situation professionally and responsibly.
