The United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territories called the US sanctions against her as a clear violation of the UN Convention on Privileges and Immunities that protect UN officials.

"It's a very serious measure, it's unprecedented, and I take it very seriously," said Francesca Albanese in Bogota during an emergency meeting of The Hague Group on Tuesday (July 16).

00:00It's a very serious measure, it's unprecedented, and they take it very seriously.
00:26It's a clear violation of the UN Convention on Privileges and Immunities that protects UN officials, including independent experts, from words and actions taken in the exercise of their functions.
00:43This is something that could lead to the United States to face the ICJ if there were one member state bringing the case before the court.
00:55But look, I'm not asking for anything like that. I don't want member states to distract their attention from where it should be right now.
01:04Ending the genocide in Gaza, this is what matters. And then ending the ethnic cleansing of Palestine, which is advancing at an incredible speed.
01:14Look, these attacks, these sanctions and what has preceded should not be seen necessarily as an attack directed against me personally.
01:26This is rather a warning to anyone who cares to defend international law and human rights, justice and freedom. And I think that in the face of this, we cannot afford to be silenced.
