US sanctions UN expert critical of Israel's war in Gaza

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Wednesday announced Washington was sanctioning Francesca Albanese, the United Nations special expert on the occupied Palestinian territories, following her criticism of Washington policy on Gaza.  Albanese, an Italian lawyer and academic, has called on states at the U.N. Human Rights Council to impose an arms embargo and cut off trade and financial ties with Israel while accusing the U.S. ally of waging a "genocidal campaign" in Gaza. 00:13U.S. ally Israel's war in Gaza.

00:16Rubio posted on X that Francesca Albanese's campaign of political and economic warfare

00:22against the United States and Israel will no longer be tolerated.

00:26Albanese, an Italian lawyer and academic, has called on states at the U.N. Human Rights

00:31Council to impose an arms embargo and cut off trade and financial ties with Israel while

00:37accusing the U.S. ally of waging a genocidal campaign in Gaza.

00:42The situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory is apocalyptic.

00:47In Gaza, people continue to endure suffering beyond imagination.

00:52Israel is responsible for one of the cruelest genocides in modern history.

00:56Official figures count over 200,000 killed or injured.

01:01Leading health experts estimate that true toll is far higher.

01:06As the cost to the Palestinian people grows, Israel has dismantled the last function of

01:11the U.N. in Gaza, humanitarian aid.

01:13Its so-called Gaza humanitarian foundation is nothing else than a death trap engineered to

01:20kill or force the flight of a starved, bombarded, emaciated population marked for elimination.

01:26As I conclude, let me say, Member States must impose a full arms embargo on Israel, suspend

01:32all trade agreements and investment relations, and enforce accountability, ensuring that corporate

01:38entities face legal consequences for their involvement in serious violations of international law.

01:44And corporate entities must urgently cease all business activities and terminate relationships directly linked,

01:51contributing to and causing human rights violations and international crimes against the Palestinian people.

01:57Albanese also released a damning report denouncing companies, she said,

02:01profited from the Israeli economy of illegal occupation, apartheid, and now genocide in the occupied Palestinian territories.

02:11The 40 entities named in my report, alongside their parents, subsidiary, licensees, and franchisees,

02:18are just the tip of the iceberg, illustrative of this system that entangles many, many more.

02:23What I exposed is not a list, it is a system, and it is to be addressed.

02:30Now, my expectation is that the OHCHR database, the Working Group on Business and Human Rights,

02:37and lawyers, investigative journalists, and prosecutors globally will take this framework

02:42and secure what states have failed to achieve, accountability.

02:47And we must reverse the tide.

02:49While not responding directly to Rubio's announcement, Albanese posted on X that she stands firmly and convincingly

02:57on the side of justice.

02:59She also references the Rome Statute, which established the International Criminal Court,

03:04and defines crimes like genocide and apartheid.

03:07So, if I do not understand that partly, when you are Hebdo's disagreement,

03:11you will be able to stabilize the generation of the Russian states and the Republic of the United States.

03:16And that you will be able to assume that there is an interesting conversation with you about the world for about whether you don't know or not,

03:21which is the country of the United States, the Republic of the United States has failed to be able to find a lot more.

03:27So, the importance of that there is the European nation to protect people from the United States.

03:30And it is very important that the media and other countries have not changed that nature and the United States has won the power of the world.
