00:16The survey showed 57% of 1,104 respondents favored regulating the market through the long-proposed Residential Tenancy Act, with only 10% opposed.
00:26Views on banning racial discrimination in housing were split by age, with 50% overall believing landlords should be allowed to choose tenants by race and 31% in favor of making it illegal.
00:38Support for banning racial discrimination was strongest among Indians, those aged 18 to 24, and full-time students.
00:45Civil society group Architects of Diversity released the findings at a forum, where Executive Director Jason Wee urged the government to pass the Residential Tenancy Act with provisions against racial discrimination.
00:58Meanwhile, independent researcher Fikri Faisal noted a stark gap between the official average rent of RM608 and actual listings of RM2,200 to RM2,500 in the Kline Valley, calling for better data to guide policy.
01:12Over 50% of respondents supported creating a rent tribunal to resolve disputes, with Bukigat Singh Assemblyman Rajivvishakaran saying policy intervention was justified if even a small percentage of tenants faced racial bias.
