At a House Democratic press briefing on Tuesday, Rep. Pete Aguilar (D-CA) was asked about NYC Democratic nominee for mayor Zohran Mamdani ahead of his visit to DC.
Transcript
00:02Zora Mamdani is going to be here in Washington tomorrow, and Republicans have been saying
00:07that Mamdani is going to be a liability for Democrats next year.
00:11I know that you guys are trying to focus on the issues and this bill and Medicaid cuts,
00:16but they're saying that he's going to be the issue for you in elections next year.
00:20Are they wrong?
00:22What I'm more concerned about when you're talking about elections coming up,
00:26I'm concerned about I'm looking at Virginia and New Jersey more than I'm looking at the city of New York, New York City.
00:34So that's what I'm interested in looking at.
00:37Medicaid will be on the ballot in those gubernatorial elections, and that's what we'll be looking at.
00:42But broadly, what Assemblymember Mamdani has talked about are the rising costs that people face.
00:49I think there's a lesson to be learned there.
00:51He's talked about rising grocery costs that people face, bus fares, those types of things.
00:58He's not campaigning on impeaching Donald Trump.
01:01He's campaigning on reducing costs that people face.
01:04And I think there's a lesson for us there, too.
01:07Cassie.
