'Pass It As Is': Speaker Johnson Calls On The Senate To Pass The Recissions Package

At a House Republican press briefing on Tuesday, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) spoke about the recission package as the Senate deadline looms to pass it.

00:00works. We're going to follow the rules. Mr. Speaker, what's the consternation

00:03among House Republicans about possible changes to the decisions bill in the

00:07Senate and what that would be like in terms of timing is you're up against

00:11this deadline on Friday. Yeah, the Friday deadline looms. We're encouraging

00:15our Senate partners over there to get the job done and to pass it as is.

00:19That's what we did. It reflects the the intention and the view of the house.

00:23This is this in our view was low hanging fruit. This rescission packages, you

00:27know, you're talking about funding for USAID, the egregious abuses that the

00:33Doge analysis and audits uncovered. We've got to claw that back. The American

00:37people, everybody demands that. We can't fund transgender operas in Peru with US

00:42taxpayer dollars, right? So come on. The NPR and PBS components are these are, you

00:46know, this this is in our view the misuse of taxpayer dollars. They're biased

00:51reporting. They're not objective. They pretend to be so. They have for a long

00:54time and the people don't don't need to fund that. I mean we're in an age of you

00:59all know you work in the industry. I mean media is so multifaceted now. There's so

01:03many avenues and areas for information and and while in its origination NPR and

01:09PBS might have made some sense and maybe it does now but it shouldn't be

01:12shouldn't be subsidized by taxpayers. So these are simple questions to answer for

01:16us. The House has acted appropriately and I hope the Senate will do the same. I've

01:20urged them as I always do to please keep the product on on amended because we

01:26have a narrow margin and we got to pass it. But we're going to process

01:28whatever they send us whenever they send us and I am I'm hopeful that it'll be

01:32soon. What's this say last question if you're unable to pass those things. I mean

01:36the idea that, you know, Republicans talk about cutting the spending and if

01:39there's a conflict you can't get it done through that. I don't accept feet in

01:44a chance and we'll see what happens.
