00:00I completely agree with the network's decision to remove me from the villa.
00:04I think that this is something that deserved punishment,
00:07and the punishment has absolutely been received for sure.
00:11Sierra Ortega is owning up to her actions.
00:14After the Love Island USA contestant was removed from the show on the July 6th episode,
00:20she is speaking out to address the circumstances surrounding her departure.
00:25Sierra says this in a video she shares to Instagram on July 9th.
00:30I've been back in the U.S. for about 48 hours, and I've had the chance to process.
00:34I now feel like I'm at a space where I can speak about this without being
00:38highly emotional because I am not the victim in this situation.
00:42The 25-year-old acknowledges that she had used a racial slur for Asian people in a past social
00:48media post, which resurfaced when she appeared on season 7 of The Peacock Dating Show.
00:54While I was in the villa, there were some posts that resurfaced from my past where I was
00:58very naively using an incredibly offensive and derogatory term.
01:04And before I get into the details, I want to first start by addressing not just anyone that
01:08I have hurt or deeply offended, but most importantly, the entire Asian community.
01:14I am deeply, truly, honestly, so sorry.
01:19I had no idea that the word held as much pain, as much harm, and came with the history that
01:27it did, or I never would have used it.
01:30I had no ill intention when I was using it, but that's absolutely no excuse because intent
01:37doesn't excuse ignorance.
01:39It just doesn't.
01:40Sierra goes on to say that what has been the most difficult is how her family is facing
01:45backlash for her actions.
01:47And, you know, I can do my best to drown out the noise and pay attention to the truth,
01:52but what's been extremely, extremely difficult is the way people are approaching my family
01:56and my loved ones.
01:58Um, you know, they have had ice cold on them.
02:01My family doesn't feel safe in their own home.
02:04I'm receiving death threats.
02:05Like, it's, there's no need to fight hate with hate.
02:11I don't think that that's justice.
02:13And if you want to know that you're heard and that I'm sorry and that I will move differently,
02:17I promise you that's what will happen.
02:20Sierra adds on her Instagram story,
02:23While I'm heartbroken my journey had to be cut short,
02:26I understand that mistakes, especially ones like this, deserve consequences.
