00:00Stage four of Giro d'Italia women and it would be a testing and demanding summit finish in
00:10prospect. First of two summit finishes along the way from Castello Tessino to Pianese. 142
00:16kilometers in prospect, four tough climbs along the way. A second day in pink for Anna Henderson
00:22of the Lidl Trek squad. Lorena Vivas the European champion after her stage three victory. Looking
00:29forward to a day in the sun once more in northern Italy. Elisa Longoborghini the Italian
00:34champion and reigning champion of the event. Interested in trying to find a way up a general
00:40classification from third position. Anna Henderson all smiles at the start as 148 riders representing
00:47the 22 teams raced into action and it was a very fast and frenetic first hour of racing eventually
00:55after 30 kilometers. A very strong breakaway group of four emerged out front including stage
01:01three winner Lorena Vivas of the team SD works pro time squad. Clear of the field with Eleonora
01:06Gasparini of UA team ADQ. Alessia Vigilia of FDJ Suez and Lika Noyen from team Visma Lisa bike.
01:13Lorena Vivas taking the first position at the intermediate sprint and with a 12 bonus points
01:21towards the points classification. That would draw her within four points of the lead of the
01:27Maglia Rosa competition held by Anna Henderson.
01:32On to the testing and demanding climbs along the way. The second of the four climbs in prospect. The
01:42daunting Muro de Ca del Poggio and Lorena Vivas leading the quartet across the 1.1 kilometer climb with a reduced
01:51advantage. One stage three and a half minutes in hand for the four riders up front and Vigilia the race leader on the road that was pared back by the sustained push from the main peloton behind and as they approached the penultimate climb of the day with 15 kilometers remaining on to Santo Stefano. Vigilia decided to strike out for glory. The local rider with the FDJ Suez squad claiming the top points. That's the third
02:20climb of the climb of the climb of the day. Keen to become the last rider standing as behind Rivas and friends toiled in the sunshine to try and make it through to the bottom of the final climb clear of the field.
02:35The main peloton loomed as the 11.1 kilometers of the Pianetze climb loomed in the distance and 7.2% average, 11% maximum gradient was going to prove too challenging for last year's runner-up and world champion Lotto Kopecky among many others.
02:57A really strong injection of face by the Movistar squad at the bottom of the mountain could pay to Anna Henderson's chances of retaining the Mallorosa.
03:06Marlon Roycer was on the attack having pared the group down to just a handful of favorites.
03:13She throttled back a little bit allowing other riders to regroup and regain.
03:17into the final five kilometers.
03:21Roycer and others on the front.
03:23Anna van der Breggen with a sustained pull to try and thin out that group.
03:28The four-time champion not able to follow when Roycer launched her second attack.
03:34And then within a couple of kilometers off the finish line,
03:37Sarah Gigante of the AG Siddal squad surprising Roycer, Longo Borghini and Niedermar
03:43Niedermar with a really impressive effort that drew her clear.
03:49She would expand her advantage all the way to the finish line.
03:53Behind Alisa Longo Borghini, the reigning champion,
03:56looking to limit her losses to the flying Australian rider
04:00and also potentially put Marlon Roycer under a bit of pressure.
04:04Niedermar fading a little from the two chasers.
04:07It's up front and into the final couple of hundred kilometers.
04:10Into the final couple of hundred meters.
04:12Sarah Gigante across the line to scoop her first victory in Giro d'Italia.
04:19Behind Alisa Longo Borghini, 25 seconds back.
04:24Named the bonus seconds for a second and paired her deficit to Marlon Roycer.
04:31It's behind Anna Henderson, 10 minutes in her ears.

04:41And Marlon Roycer back in pink.
