00:00In Brazil, the summit of heads of states and government of BRICS begins on Sunday.
00:22The Episcopal Conference of Panama has expressed concern over serious events that put at risk
00:26the environment, national sovereignty and, in general, the lives of the citizens of the country.
00:35And in Palestine, the United Nations World Food Programme has called for more safe routes
00:39to be opened immediately to deliver aid to residents in northern, central and southern
00:43Gaza.
00:50Hello, you're watching Teresor English, I'm Luis Alberto Matos, these are the headlines
00:53at this hour.
01:08The Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro, Southeast Brazil, hosted the 17th Annual BRICS Summit.
01:13The event will also welcome new members and formalize the role of partner countries.
01:17For 11 nations as full members and 10 guests, partner states the group is now the largest
01:23player in terms of decision-making power on the international stage.
01:26According to official figures, the BRICS account for 39% of global gross domestic product, 43%
01:32of oil production and almost half of the world's population.
01:36The slogan of the grand event is strengthening southern global cooperation for inclusive and
01:40sustainable governance.
01:42By the absence for the first time of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President
01:46Biden Putin, the BRICS Summit is considered a strategic milestone.
01:57In this context, activities in Rio de Janeiro intensified in the days leading up to the meeting.
02:01While the business sector met in a forum to discuss the challenges facing the sector, our correspondent
02:06Andre Vieira and Sebastian Soto with the details.
02:11Rio de Janeiro is the capital of the BRICS for the next few days.
02:18The streets are with reinforced security to receive the leaders of the bloc who will meet
02:22this Sunday and Monday.
02:23Prior to the summit of presidents, different sectors hold meetings to formulate proposals for
02:28this international articulation, as in the case of the BRICS Businessmen's Forum held
02:31this Saturday.
02:35Brazilian President Lula da Silva, who is also the pro-tempor president of the BRICS, participated
02:40in the business meeting.
02:42During his speech, the president stressed that there is no environment for negotiations without
02:45peace.
02:46The end of wars and accumulating conflicts is one of the responsibilities of heads of state
03:02and government.
03:03It is clear that the vacuum of leadership aggravates multiple crises faced by our societies.
03:09I am certain that this forum and the BRICS Summit, which begins this Sunday, will provide solutions.
03:14The meeting was also accompanied by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Anwar Ben Ibrahim.
03:28Without mentioning the United States, the Asian leader reinforced the importance of multilateralism
03:32in times of the economic war imposed by Donald Trump.
03:36I see this conference in a very positive light.
03:41We are not complaining, complaining about those who believe in unilateral measures, tariffs,
03:46protectionism.
03:47Here we have a voice for multilateralism.
03:52Also this Saturday, the board of directors of the New Development Bank, a financial institution
04:00of the BRICS, held a press conference with a balance of its activities.
04:04Bank's president, Dilma Rousseff, pointed out the fragility of the United States dollar since
04:08the announcement of Donald Trump's tariff cuts.
04:11Denied that there is a de-dollarization, but stressed the importance of using local currencies
04:16in business in the global south.
04:17What is it that they started to say in the United States?
04:27That the safe harbor status of the dollar was being questioned by the market.
04:31Whether it happens or not, you cannot tell just by a movement and you have to wait and see.
04:36Although I don't see clearly any sign of de-dollarization, I don't see it.
04:41What I see are other things where many countries are using their own currencies to trade.
04:52As chair of the BRICS, Brazil will focus on six themes at the heads of state summit.
04:57Global health cooperation, trade, investment and finance, climate change, governance of
05:01artificial intelligence, reform of the multilateral peace and security architecture, and institutional
05:06development.
05:11André Vieira, Sebastian Soto, Telesur, Brazil.
05:39In St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the carnivals moved forward in the last weekend.
05:43On Saturday night, one of the most famous events took place at Victory Park, a contest
05:47to elect the Soka Monarch.
05:49People gathered at this event, with several artists fighting to take home the highest title
05:53of this carnival 2025, the title of the Soka.
05:55This is one of the most awaited events of Vincent Mass Carnival in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
06:00The carnival will continue until Sunday, with the election of the Calypso Monarch, another
06:04major event of these carnivals.

06:41Welcome back to From the South.
06:43Today, as Minister of Hydrocarbons and Energy, Alejandro Gallardo warned that the country
06:46could lose an opportunity to position itself in the international lithium market if progress
06:51is not made with the approval of the agreement signed between Bolivian lithium deposits and
06:55the Chinese Consorption Broadband Capital.
06:58As he explained, projections indicate that the price of lithium would reach its highest point
07:02between 2031 and 2032.
07:04So it is essential to start now with the construction of the plants to take advantage of that scenario.
07:10The contract with CBC includes an investment of more than $1 million for the installation
07:15of two industrial plants with the capacity to produce between 10,000 and 25,000 tons of lithium
07:20carbonate per year.
07:22Some parliamentarians have also expressed the importance of the bill advancing in the legislature.
07:34The China-Venezuela Expo Fair consolidated the strategic alliance between both countries.
07:38More details in the following report with Leonardo Rieta.
07:41This is for the world to know not only about China, but also to know the potential that
08:00this country has and that as the era is advancing, technology is changing and that is why we are
08:04all here in exchange and learning.
08:11The mining engine has made vital alliances with Chinese entrepreneurs for the production
08:15of bauxite, aluminum and other minerals for the economic development of the country.
08:20It is good that our Chinese brothers and sisters give us the opportunity to include us
08:27and give us this technology that we need so much.
08:29What for?
08:30For our growing population, for our children to learn about technology, to learn about the
08:34artificial intelligence, which are completely necessary.
08:41China has been with our country in the most difficult moments and is currently maintaining
08:46significant investments, especially in the aluminum sector, which already has investments
08:51of great importance for development and to continue leveraging our country's industrial
08:55engine.
08:56In technology, the alliance between China and Venezuela is playing in favor of the development
09:04of artificial intelligence.
09:11We are also involved in all the developments related to the expansion of Ford coverage,
09:16which in its first phase was achieved in 60%.
09:19We are implementing all this technology throughout the national territory and we are at an advanced
09:23stage to develop new things at a satellite level as well.
09:30This exhibition served as a framework for cultural and commercial exchange between the two nations.
09:36In our news, the Episcopal Conference of Panama has expressed concern over serious events that put
09:46at risk the environment, national sovereignty and in general the lives of citizens of the country.
09:51The Panamanian media has focused exclusively on highlighting the call made by the search to teachers, inviting
09:56them to return to academia.
09:58Religious leaders have made serious allegations regarding the militarization of rural areas
10:02around the Indian River.
10:04It was within the framework of the 223rd Ordinary Assembly where the bishops also made urgent calls
10:10and expressed concern about the surrender of national sovereignty, interference by the United States
10:15government and the possibility of establishing foreign bases in the national territory.
10:22The issue of the multi-purpose reservoir that the Panama Canal Authority has planned for the
10:36the India River is becoming a big problem.
10:40Because there have been communicative vacuums and there has also been, from our view as pastor
10:46of this region, manipulation of information, what you have said about the census, they use it as a
10:53means to say that the people have accepted the reservoir.
11:00I think that is precisely where one of the main manipulations lies, and I say this with full
11:06knowledge of the facts.
11:08Many farmers have refused to take the census to receive the survey in their homes.
11:13The government is entering.
11:15Those who are doing the census are entering the communities with police, which is militarizing
11:21the area.
11:26And in Buenos Aires, Peronism reached out the first deal at the brink of provincial elections.
11:32Subsequently, a commission for making up a Peronist front was authorized.
11:36The agreement was sealed at a congress in the Municipal Theatre of Merlot City, where officials
11:40gave the green light to form electoral fronts with other forces.
11:44In this way, after much work and tense meetings, three days before the deadline to
11:48register alliances, they unanimously passed the creation of a local government committee
11:52made up of Maximo Kirchner, alongside four other leaders aimed at forming a new coalition
11:57to enter the September and October contest.
12:00Therefore, the majority of Peronist leadership celebrated a deal dubbed the Merlot Agreement.
12:10We now have our second and final short break coming up.

12:54Welcome back.
12:55In Palestine, the United Nations World Food Programme has called for more safe routes
12:59to be opened immediately to deliver aid to residents in northern, central and southern Gaza.
13:04In a post on exit, the WFP stressed that humanitarian aid must reach those in need without obstacles or risks,
13:11also renewing its call for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and warning of an imminent humanitarian catastrophe.
13:17In this regard, and reiterating its alarm at the situation, the WFP stated that one in three people in Gaza spent several days without food,
13:26underscoring the severe levels of hunger and deprivation among the population.
13:30An early Sunday morning, at least 17 Palestinians, including children, were killed and several more were injured
13:43when Israeli fighter jets launched a series of airstrikes across the Gaza Strip.
13:47The deadliest attack took place in north of the city of Gaza, where an Israeli airstrike targeted a house sheltering displaced members of two families.
13:55In this context, medical sources confirmed that at least 10 civilians were killed in the attack.
14:00Others were wounded and several people were still missing on the rubble.
14:05In another attack, four people were killed and others wounded when Israeli planes bombed a house in Al Tufa neighborhood east of the city of Gaza.
14:13Meanwhile, in southern Gaza, an Israeli drone strike targeted tents in the Almawasi area of Hanjunis, killing three civilians.
14:25And on Sunday, Houthi forces launched a hypersonic missile designated Palestine 2 at Ben Gurion Airport, Israel's main airport.
14:34Syrians were heard throughout the occupied territories, Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, the Dead Sea, and the West Bank.
14:40The Israeli Defense Force claims the missile was intercepted and caused no damage.
14:44Brigadier General Jaya Zari, military spokesman for Ansar Rollah, said the attack was launched against the Jaffa area,
14:50stressing that thousands of Israelis had run to save heavens.
14:54He also reported that the operation, the fourth in a week, is a response to the brutal war crimes the Israeli occupation forces commit against the Palestinian people.
15:11In France, police fired tear gas to disperse hundreds of protesters who gathered in Moritz-Capone on Saturday to oppose the construction of the A69 Express motorway.
15:20The A61 motorway project, which aims to link Castres and Toulouse, has faced fierce opposition from environmentalists, farmers, and local residents.
15:29Despite a ban issued by the Tarn Prefecture, demonstrators blocked access roads and clashed with authorities near the Chateau du Capon,
15:37leading to several injuries among both police and protesters.
15:41Critics argued the project threatens wetlands, farmland, and biodiversity, while supporters claimed it would boost the regional economy and reduce travel times.
15:49Constructions began in 2023 and is scheduled for completion in late 2025, while protests and illegal challenges continue to disrupt progress.
16:15Meanwhile, in the United States, flooding in Kirk County, Texas, caused the death of at least 43 people, including 15 children, and at least 8 people died in nearby counties.
16:24Rescue teams searched for 27 girls missing from a riverside summer camp Saturday after the racial rains triggered devastating floods.
16:31The destructive, fast-moving waters rose 8 meters in the Guadalupe River in just 45 minutes before dawn Friday to bring away homes and vehicles.
16:40Authorities have not yet said how many people are still missing, other than the children in the camp, but other people who were in the area but not in the camp may also be unaccounted for.
16:49Authorities reported that some 850 people have been rescued so far, and more than 1,700 were taking part in the search and rescue operation.
16:59Let's go.
