00:00The United Nations denounced the ineffectiveness of the humanitarian aid distribution model
00:14promoted by the United States and Israel in Gaza.
00:20Russia denounces Ukraine's non-compliance with the agreements reached at the second
00:24round of talks in Istanbul, Turquille, and in Spain, citizens take to the streets in Madrid
00:33to protest against the government's growing military spending.
00:41Hello, welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Dele Sous Studios in Havana,
00:45Cuba.
00:46We begin with the news.
00:54The United Nations denounced the ineffectiveness of the humanitarian aid distribution model
01:09promoted by the United States and Israel in the Gaza Strip.
01:12The international organization warned that the Western humanitarian model is a means of
01:16bringing death to thousands of Gazans' families.
01:20They emphasized that the only way to deliver food safely in the Gaza Strip is through the
01:24United Nations.
01:25In this regard, they recalled the organization's humanitarian work in the occupied territories
01:29and urged Dele Sous-Aviv to allow them to carry out their work.
01:38And on Friday, Volker Turk, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, said he was
01:42deeply disturbed by the U.S. government's decision to impose sanctions against the judges
01:47of the International Criminal Court.
01:49He asked Washington to withdraw these measures against the judges from Benin, Peru, Slovenia,
01:54and Uganda, who have ruled on the cases of Afghanistan and Palestine.
01:58The State Department will prevent these judges from entering U.S. territory and will block any
02:03property or other interests they have in the territory.
02:07They questioned the arrest warrant issued against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, responsible
02:12for the death of more than 50,000 Palestinians, of whom nearly 18,000 are children.
02:21In Saudi Arabia, thousands of pilgrims completed their walk around the Kaaba, Islam's holiest site,
02:30during the culmination of the Hajj rituals.
02:32The Kaaba is a cube-shaped structure and is the focal point towards which Muslims orient
02:37themselves during their daily prayers.
02:39On Saturday, pilgrims in Mina performed the ritual stoning of the devil for the second consecutive
02:44day in commemoration of the rejection of Satan by Prophet Ibrahim.
02:48Over 1.8 million people attended this annual pilgrimage, which takes place under logistical
02:53planning designed to manage heat and crowds.
02:56At the same time, in India, thousands of Muslims celebrated Eid al-Adha prayers in the country's
03:06main squares and mosques, in an atmosphere of reverence and security measures.
03:11Previously, religious authorities in Kashmir announced the first day of Eid al-Adha, June
03:167, following the sighting of the new moon of the month of Dual Hijaj.
03:21Residents hope the celebration will bring hope for peace and stability in the region.
03:25In this context, Iraqis celebrated Eid al-Adha prayers throughout various cities and provinces.
03:36Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Sheikh al-Sudani joined the faithful in prayer at the Al-Rasul
03:41Mosque in Baghdad.
03:43On this occasion, the Iraqi government declared an official holiday from June 6 to June 10 so
03:48that citizens may celebrate this religious holiday with their families.
03:55In other topics in Sudan, authorities report more than 1,000 daily cases of a rapidly spreading
04:02cholera outbreak in Khartoum, of this war-torn country.
04:05Let's see.
04:06The outbreak is centered around the capital, Khartoum, and has spread as many Sudanese who
04:15had flooded the country's war-return home.
04:16These days, the cholera situation is really bad, especially in Khartoum, which became, at
04:27the moment, the epicenter of the outbreak.
04:33So we had a wave of cholera that really increased in a few days, exploded in hundreds of cases,
04:42even getting above 1,000 cases a day in Khartoum.
04:49Most cases have been reported in Khartoum and its twin city of Omdurman.
04:53The cholera was also detected in the provinces of North Kordofen, Senargezura, White Nile
04:59and Nile River, health officials said.
05:02Obviously, regarding the consequences of the conflict on the water system, on the health
05:12system, on the hygiene of the people, a lot of people got displaced many times, so they
05:18didn't have a shelter or even a house, or they were, you know, living in overcrowded shelter.
05:27So the promiscuity, the lack of water, the lack of hygiene and the lack of access to healthcare,
05:33all that contributed to really increase the cholera and complicates the, to put the disease
05:42under control, the outbreak under control.
05:48Health workers fear the outbreak could spread quickly since many people are packed into displacement
05:53centers, making it difficult to isolate those infected.

06:23Welcome back.
06:30On Saturday, Russia denounced Ukraine's non-compliance with the agreements reached at the second round
06:35of talks in Istanbul to Kiev.
06:36The head of the Russian delegation, Vladimir Medinsky, detailed that Kiev postponed indefinitely
06:42the reception of corpses and the exchange of prisoners scheduled for this Friday, June 6.
06:46According to Medinsky, the Russian side complied with the terms of the talks and attended the
06:51humanitarian action to deliver to Ukraine more than 6,000 bodies of its servicemen and
06:57exchange prisoners.
06:58Although the dates had been announced by both sides, Ukrainian negotiators did not attend the
07:03exchange venue.
07:04Moscow urges Kiev to comply with the deadlines and agreements.
07:08And while this is happening, Russia's Air Defense Forces shot down at least 36 Ukrainian drones
07:17in one day over five regions in the southwest of the country.
07:22The Russian Ministry of Defense specified that the unmanned aircraft were intercepted over
07:28the regions of Prutsk, Priyansk, Kaluga, Smolensk, and Moscow.
07:33Local authorities in each region stated that the drones were successfully intercepted, although
07:38in Borobio, two residents were injured and one home was damaged.
07:43However, emergency services are monitoring all affected districts to quantify the damage.
07:53And the now disgraced operation, Car Wash, may be over, but the tactics taught to prosecutors
07:58and judges through an illegal partnership with the U.S. Department of Justice are still being
08:02used to try to destroy progressive governments.
08:05In Brazil, a correspondent, Bramir, has more.
08:10Six months after taking control of Pesquera Pernambuco, the Xucuru indigenous leaders running
08:15the local government are complaining that political enemies are applying similar lawfare tactics to
08:19those imported from the United States during the criminal persecution of Lula da Silva to
08:24sabotage their administration.
08:26Once again, the criminalization of the Xucuru people is intensifying.
08:33This becomes especially clear when comparing similar legal actions here in Pernambuco and
08:38across the country.
08:40The patterns in how these cases unfold and how they are portrayed in the media reveal striking
08:45parallels.
08:46The process seems standardized, echoing tactics seen in larger scale operations.
08:51It reminds me of strategies used in Operation Car Wash under Sergio Moro.
08:56Chief Marcos was first elected mayor in 2020, but enemies resuscitated a 20-year-old conviction
09:02for property damage during a protest to bar him from office.
09:06Months later, the courts admitted judicial error and annulled his conviction, enabling him
09:10to run in 2024.
09:13But since taking office, conservative enemies have filed arbitrary charges for accounting errors
09:17that occurred during the previous government, forcing him to temporarily step down for the
09:22month of April during a frivolous investigation.
09:26Stepping down for a month was legally unusual.
09:29We believe it was unnecessary, but we respected that decision, and we have complied with all
09:35the court orders.
09:37I believe that if these procedures are carried out normally, we'll not only be able to run
09:42this government, according to the goals set by Mayor Marcos and his team in their plan
09:48for the city, but he will prove his innocence once again.
09:53This isn't the only instance in which U.S. DOJ tactics taught to the Operation Car Wash Task
09:58Force have been used to damage political enemies at the local level.
10:01In 2019, 23 frivolous corruption charges were filed against former Paraíba governor Ricardo
10:07Cochino.
10:09It took him three years to prove his innocence, but that damage to his image led to his losing
10:13an election.
10:14Mayor Marcos, however, remains optimistic.
10:18In the heart of the 21st century, we are achieving many victories.
10:27We have taken on a great level of protagonism in this state and this nation.
10:33Unfortunately, the state and some people still don't understand the importance of this.
10:39With Mayor Marcos back in office for over a month, the Xucuru government has overcome
10:43its first hurdle, but the 500-year fight for autonomy continues.
10:48Brian Mir, Telesur, Pesquera, Pernambuco.
10:52Also in Brazil, experts say in less than a year there's been a 92% increase in deforestation.
11:11The National Space Research Institute reported that from August 2024 to May 2025, the increase
11:17in deforestation in the Amazon has meant the destruction of anywhere between 500 to 960
11:23km of forest.
11:25They say there are three main reasons for deforestation – mining, massive flocking
11:29wildfires.
11:30Brazil's Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry has repeatedly emphasized the importance
11:36of preserving the Amazon rainforest not just for Brazil but also for the survival of humanity
11:42its key role in the hydrological and carbon cycles.
12:02In sports, Venezuela hosted Bolivia at the Monumental de Maturin Stadium for the 15th round of the South
12:07American Qualifier where both teams needed a victory.
12:10However, Davino Tinto defended the 14th de Maturin beating Los Altiplanos 2-0.
12:15Davino Tinto started the match a little sluggishly but picked up the pace after Bolivia scored
12:22an own goal in the fifth minute when center-back Héctor Cuellar returned the ball to his goalkeeper
12:27and slipped through Vizcarra's legs.
12:30Later Venezuela continued to try and in the 30th minute of the match, Ferraresi close to
12:35Salomon Rondon who scored to make 2-0 at halftime.
12:39With this victory for Vino Tinto, Venezuela now has 18 points and Bolivia remains with 14
12:45points.
12:46Both teams still have a chance to qualify and their fate is in their own hands.
12:51Venezuela remains unbeaten at home.
12:52In another match of the day, Colombia hosted Peru in Barranquilla for a nil-nil tie.
13:03Roberto Melendez, Maturin Stadium hosted the match where both teams were held to a draw,
13:08despite the fact that the locals had 71% of ball possession and shot 15 times compared
13:13to only 4 shots by the Peruvians.
13:15With the draw, both teams added one point.
13:17Colombia is sixth in the standing with 21 points while Peru is in the next to last position
13:21in ninth place with 11 points.
13:28And the World Cup qualifiers are in the final stretch.
13:31So far, Argentina has already secured a spot in the 2026 World Cup and will defend its title
13:36one in Qatar in 2022.
13:39Round 15 of the South American qualifying rounds ended with Ecuador and Paraguay in second and
13:44third place on the list, tied with 24 points, leaving both teams one step away from qualification.
13:49Brazil is in fourth place, followed by Uruguay and Colombia, while Venezuela, after its victory
13:56is in seventh place and in the playoff zone.

14:25In Spain, demonstrations were held on Saturday in front of the Congress of Deputies in Madrid
14:34to protest against the militaristic policies and rowing military spending of the government
14:40of Pedro Sánchez in the run-up to the upcoming summit of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization,
14:44NATO.
14:45Protesters gathered in Plaza Puerta del Sol to denounce the increase in military spending,
14:50cuts in social investment and to criticize the hypocrisy of the West in the face of Israeli
14:56genocide in the Gaza Strip.
14:58Participants also demanded that the government invest money in schools and the health system
15:02and stop encouraging the Zionist plans of Benjamin Netanyahu.
15:07Protesters pointed out that Spain is not a country of wars but a peaceful nation and should not
15:11continue to favor the interests of President Donald Trump and the Israeli regime by purchasing
15:16weapons.
15:22And in China, several regions implement strategies to boost consumption during the summer.
15:27Haizu National Wetland Park in southern China hosts sports activities such as canoeing and
15:33dragon boat paddling to boost economic growth.
15:35In addition, the Hui Autonomous Region of Ningxia is experiencing a high season with desert surfing
15:41and starcasing-themed hotel accommodation.
15:43At the same time, Yangtze Province built a special pet park that attracted pet owners and
15:50animal lovers, sparking a potential for consumption.
15:53In Cuba, a percussionist Changuito considered an outstanding Cuban musician passed away.
