00:01Hello, I'm Jeremy Vine, and welcome to the show which tests celebrities' puzzling ability
00:06and patience to their very limits. This is Celebrity Puzzling.
00:10Good evening, welcome to the show. Let us meet our captains. First up, she's far from trivial.
00:32It's a quiz and puzzle legend, the one and only Carol Vorderman.
00:36Here she is. Up against Carol, a much-loved actor, creator of the Madame Blanc Mysteries,
00:44it's national treasure Sally Lindsay. You happy with those introductions, you two?
00:52Okay, joining Carol is the patron saint of quizzing, Paul Sinner, and on Sally's team is an actor
00:57who once played Captain Hook in Panto. Let's give him a big hand. Sean Williamson.
01:02Right, now this is interesting, because Sean, we're into puzzling here, and puzzling and quizzing are different.
01:10I know you love to quiz, don't you? Yeah, I love to quiz, and I've quizzed in the same league as the brilliant Paul Sinner
01:15and won several television quizzes, but it's a different part of the brain, you see.
01:19So how do you measure up, then, Paul, when you and Sean are up against each other?
01:23Who's got the nerves of steel?
01:25Well, the fact that I can barely remember him being there previously.
01:29Well, that might be good or bad.
01:31Ow!
01:31Oh!
01:32I think it's safe to say, normally, Paul's in the top five, and I come about number 70 when we do the National Quiz League, so...
01:38But like we say, Paul, puzzling is different, isn't it? It's not about knowledge.
01:42Totally different skills. I can't act.
01:44Join the club!
01:44Actually, I'll have you know, I played Sean's wife in a drama once, so we can act, sure.
01:50Moving on is the daytime Jimmy McGovern show, moving on. We were husband and wife, and we cheated our neighbours out of some money on a bingo win.
01:57And he went mad. Brilliant.
01:59Do you know, I actually remember that. That's fantastic.
02:01Okay, Paul, who's in charge on your side? I'm guessing Carol?
02:04Absolutely, Carol.
02:05Right, that's the right answer.
02:07I thought I was just kicking back for this show.
02:09Carol has quiz experience here as well, of course, with the puzzles, so let's see how we go.
02:13Thank you, teams. Let's get puzzling.
02:16In this game, no two contests are the same.
02:18The teams face a random selection of six, count of six, of our best brain-busting puzzles.
02:23As we play today, you'll go through each round, hoping to build up as big a lead as possible before you face off head-to-head, nose-to-nose, cheek-to-cheek,
02:31in our fantastic final round puzzle of the memory bank.
02:34So, we puzzle on, and tonight our first puzzle is Shapeshifters.
02:42So, let me explain.
02:43You will see a grid of answers, a question, and a corresponding shape.
02:47Simply give me the correct answers that fit exactly inside that shape.
02:50You cannot rotate it.
02:52For example, types of tea.
02:53It's got to be one on top of the other.
02:55Go on, anyone tell me.
02:56Earl Grey and Darjeeling.
02:57Earl Grey and Darjeeling.
02:58Exactly.
02:59There are other types of tea there, Assam and gunpowder, but they don't fit together like they're purple blocks on the right.
03:04And as we always say, you cannot rotate the shape.
03:08This is one of the best quiz show catchphrases ever.
03:13Catchy, isn't it, Sean?
03:14Honestly.
03:15It's lifting off.
03:16I can feel it.
03:17The boosters are on.
03:18Now, Sally and Sean, you're up first.
03:20Here is your first puzzle for two points.
03:23So, category, celebrity cameos in Friends, and you need two next to each other.
03:29Was Gary Oldman wasn't in Friends?
03:31No, I don't think he was, no.
03:32I think Brad Pitt and Reese Witherspoon.
03:35I think Reese Witherspoon's played Jennifer Aniston's sister.
03:39Was Danny DeVito in it?
03:40Yeah, he did.
03:40He played a bit in it, but that's not the show.
03:42But I think you're right.
03:42Your answer is?
03:43Brad Pitt and Reese Witherspoon.
03:45Brad Pitt and Reese Witherspoon.
03:47And is it correct?
03:50Yay!
03:50Yes!
03:51Good done.
03:53So, Reese played Rachel's sister.
03:56Jill was her name.
03:58Gary Oldman was in it, you know.
03:59Oh, was he?
04:00Played a British actor, co-starred with Joey in a war movie.
04:03Danny DeVito played a...
04:05Penguin?
04:05Stripper.
04:07Close.
04:07Did he?
04:08Yeah, Winona Ryder played an old friend of Rachel's.
04:11Hugh Laurie sat next to Rachel on her flight to London.
04:14Yeah.
04:14There we go!
04:15You did really well there.
04:17Don't want to worry your team, Sally, but remember, Paul is a professional quizzer
04:20who's decided to spend his free time quizzing.
04:25Carol and Paul, here is your first shapeshifter's puzzle.
04:30So, former stadiums of current Premier League clubs, and it's one on top of the other, please.
04:35Are you into football?
04:37It's, um, Highbury's now the Emirates, Arsenal.
04:40Yeah.
04:40Main road is where Man City used to go.
04:42That was Man City, old Man City.
04:43So, I think it's Highbury.
04:46I'm like this.
04:47Okay.
04:48And Main Road is the former stadium of Man City.
04:51All right.
04:51Okay.
04:52Let's see.
04:52So, Highbury and Main Road.
04:53Okay.
04:53Let's see if you're right.
04:56Yes.
04:56You're right, Highbury is the Emirates, and Main Road is the Etihad.
05:02Upton Park, Sean?
05:04It was West Ham.
05:05Yeah.
05:06They moved out to the Olympic Stadium.
05:08Yeah, that's right.
05:08The Goldstone is now called the Amex.
05:10It is now called the Amex.
05:12How interesting.
05:13Sally and Sean, let's see the category.
05:15The shape's different there.
05:16Ghosts.
05:17And it's ghosts, please.
05:19Ray Parker, Jr. sang about ghosts, didn't he?
05:22Yeah, sang about ghosts, that's not him.
05:23Timothy Claypole was a ghost.
05:25Banquo is the ghost of Scottish.
05:26We're not allowed to say what the title is.
05:28I don't know who Sam Wheats is.
05:30If you're sure about Claypole and Banquo, should we just say Sam Wheats a ghost?
05:33It was my favourite programme as a kid.
05:35Banquo, Timothy Claypole and Sam Wheats.
05:37Are you all right with that?
05:38Yep.
05:39I'm sorry if it's wrong.
05:40All right.
05:41The captain has spoken.
05:42Sam Wheats, Timothy Claypole, Banquo is your answer.
05:45Let's see if it's right.
05:48Yay!
05:49Come on!
05:50You'll love this.
05:52Sam Wheat is the character played by Patrick Swayze in the film Ghosts.
05:56Of course he is.
05:57Patrick and the Swayze.
05:58He's quite with the pottery and all that.
05:59He's quite an important ghost.
06:01Yeah.
06:01A year before, Shoeless Joe Jackson was in Field of Dreams as a ghost.
06:06You're absolutely right.
06:07That's right.
06:08Ray Liotta, yeah.
06:09So who's Clyde?
06:10It's the only Clyde I know.
06:11It's the orangutan.
06:12Clyde is the orange ghost in Pac-Man.
06:16We really did a big...
06:18That's the level we're at, kids.
06:19We did a dragnet on the ghosts for you.
06:21Carol and Paul, here's yours.
06:23Let's see the category.
06:25Rivers in England.
06:26Ah, well, there you go.
06:27I know this one.
06:28There is a river piddle.
06:29We used to talk about it all the time on Countdown.
06:32And people used to send in letters from all the villages,
06:35piddle, trend, tide, all sorts of...
06:36There is a river piddle.
06:37Look at you, you know about that.
06:38I think it's in Devon.
06:40Obviously the river Avon.
06:41I look out at it, living in Bristol.
06:44And the axe is...
06:46Well, there's like axe bridge, isn't there?
06:48So it's down there.
06:49We're in the West Country with that.
06:50That's what I'm going with.
06:51I think the piddle may do us proud here, Paul.
06:54Yeah, I think you're right.
06:55So what are you going for?
06:56We're going piddle, Devon and axe.
07:02Let's see if you're right.
07:03And the logic was good in terms of other English rivers.
07:09In E is in Cornwall and the Chew exists as an English rivers.
07:14I'm not sure where the Chew is, though.
07:16There's Chew Valley.
07:17That's like south of Bristol.
07:18Oh, Chew Magna and all that.
07:20Oh, it's all round.
07:21Okay.
07:21Piddle is in Dorset.
07:23Dorset.
07:23I was going to be right with that.
07:24And there's a couple of axe rivers in the West Country.
07:27Well, you're all playing really well, yeah.
07:29Okay, Sally and Sean, three points now.
07:31A little bit harder than your last, maybe.
07:33Characters in works by Charles Dickens.
07:35And look at the shape.
07:38Okay, well, Stockbury is in Much Ado About Nothing.
07:41Dick Swivelliner, there was a character.
07:45I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
07:46I can't join in.
07:47Family show, family show.
07:49Cora Flange, come on.
07:50So, it's not Flange, Swivell or Dogbury.
07:55What about Archbishop's group, Mr Pumblechook and Francis Feeble?
07:59Or Pumblechook, Pecksniff and Chollop?
08:01Go on, you go for this one, because I don't know.
08:03Yeah, I don't know.
08:04We'll go Mr Pumblechook, Charity Pecksniff and Hannibal Chollop.
08:08Okay, Pumblechook, Pecksniff, Chollop.
08:11Let's see if it's the right answer.
08:13Oh, yes!
08:15Great!
08:18What a quiz you are.
08:19Well, virtually every other answer was a sort of slightly obscene...
08:24You say that Fanny Cleaver and Dick Swivelliner are Dickens' characters.
08:28Fanny Cleaver is in Our Mutual Friend, and Dick Swivelliner is in Old Curiosity Shop.
08:34There we are.
08:35This is yours, Carol and Paul, for three points.
08:37Okay.
08:38Category, let's see.
08:40Species of Armadillo.
08:41Oh, no.
08:42I don't want to look at that.
08:43Right, I have a thought.
08:45Do you recognise any one of those?
08:47Yes, Pink Fairy is definitely correct.
08:51And I think Nine Banded is definitely correct.
08:53So we'll go with that pattern then.
08:55Then perhaps Screamy Hairy.
08:57Little Armoured is, I think, correct, possibly.
09:01So what goes with the pattern is Pink Fairy...
09:03Pink Fairy.
09:04...Screaming Hairy.
09:07Nine Banded.
09:08That was a good night.
09:11You're telling me.
09:12Do you want to go with that?
09:14Pink Fairy, Screaming Hairy, Nine Banded?
09:16Yeah.
09:16I mean, if it is Pink Fairy, that's a great place to start.
09:19So put the answers down.
09:20Yeah.
09:21Now let's see if you're right.
09:22Come on.
09:24Yay!
09:26You're brilliant, sir.
09:27Well done.
09:28So, Cory Longnode is also a type of Armadillo.
09:31Any others you want to ask me about?
09:33Star-nosed is a mole.
09:34Hermit crab?
09:35Hermit's a crab.
09:36Hermit is a crab.
09:37Boop Boops is a type of sea bream.
09:39Hellbender is a salamander.
09:41And star-nosed is a mole.
09:44At the end of our first round, we can see the scores.
09:46Carol and Paul.
09:47This is going to be close.
09:48Seven.
09:49Sean and Sally.
09:53What a quiz you've done here.
09:55Two brilliant quizzers.
09:58And Sally and Carol, sorry.
09:59I'm not back to that.
10:00Four brilliant quizzers.
10:01Four.
10:02I knew four.
10:02Four brilliant quizzers.
10:04Okay.
10:05Time for round two.
10:06It's your first trip to the letterbox.
10:07In this round, only one team plays.
10:09So provided they don't mess it up, it's the chance to grab points without the distraction
10:13of facing the other team.
10:14So, going first, Sally and Sean.
10:17And Sean, you used to be a postman, is that right?
10:19I was.
10:20I was a postman, yes.
10:21So the word letterbox is immediately, you're thinking this is my round.
10:25I'm just remembering all the dogs that bit me.
10:28So, former Soapstars, the game you're playing tonight is called Pathwords.
10:35This is how it looks.
10:36You're going to see three rows of five jumbled letters, which must be rearranged to complete
10:40three words.
10:42Letters highlighted are locked in place.
10:44The letters on physical tiles, the darker ones, can move, but they can only move in their
10:48vertical lines within their own column.
10:51So, here it is.
10:52It's coming together.
10:52As you move them, you'll see, oh, quote, very cruel.
10:57There we are.
10:58Is that okay?
10:59Is that it?
10:59Have we got the points now?
11:00Yeah, that's it.
11:01You can stay seated.
11:02You've done it.
11:03You're against the clock to complete all three words.
11:05So, Sally and Sean, let's head over to the letterbox now.
11:10Sally and Sean, in your first puzzle, the first letter of each word, plus two extra letters
11:14will be locked.
11:14Once you're happy, press the buzzer for three points.
11:17Here is your first path words.
11:20Oh, okay.
11:21It's all K, C, T on the left.
11:23The K can't move.
11:25So, let's put the, uh, that there.
11:29Um, and because we can't do anything else, can it?
11:32So, what about putting the...
11:34Okay, so, so, so, so, what if that's a V and that's...
11:37Can I put that on top of the O?
11:38Yep.
11:42Okay, so, um, Q.
11:48Let's put the B down here.
11:49So, we've got Funder.
11:50Oh, yeah, there.
11:51Uh, Clove.
11:52Clove.
11:52And...
11:53Kazoo.
11:54Press the button if you've finished.
11:55Well done.
11:56Done, Clove.
11:57Kazoo.
11:57I'm a wolf.
11:59I was like a rabbit in the headlights.
12:01For me, I thought, have we started yet?
12:02I was gently pushing things around.
12:04Okay, we're going to reset the tiles and play again.
12:07It's going to get harder as we lock one letter fewer.
12:10For your trouble, this one is worth four points.
12:12And your time starts now.
12:14Right.
12:15S-T-A.
12:16Uh...
12:16S-T-A.
12:17Down the left.
12:18Down the left.
12:18So, let's...
12:19I think the top word's stamp.
12:21Okay, let's do it.
12:22You do the shift and about, because you're good at that.
12:24Well done.
12:24That was straight there.
12:25Right, it's quick.
12:26He went straight there.
12:27Okay, so, what have we got here?
12:29So, it's got to be topple.
12:30Toxic.
12:31Uh, no.
12:32An ample.
12:32Toxic and ample.
12:33Toxic.
12:33Toxic in the middle.
12:34Very good.
12:36Look at this.
12:37Yeah, toxic.
12:39Yeah.
12:40Yes!
12:41Well done, eh?
12:42Toxic ample.
12:43Hey?
12:44A very strange collection of words, that.
12:46But I like the way you played there.
12:47I've tuned in there.
12:48You're on it.
12:49I've done it.
12:49Sean on the word.
12:50You doing the movements.
12:52Yeah, I didn't.
12:52I wasn't even quick enough there.
12:53For the first game, you did the words and the movements, so I thought...
12:56Okay.
12:56Okay.
12:57I'm liking it.
12:58That was a perfect, perfect play.
13:00And we play again.
13:02Here's your next set of tiles.
13:03We're cranking up the difficulty in your third puzzle.
13:05We will only lock the first letter per word.
13:08The correct answer's worth five points now.
13:10Your time starts now.
13:11Right, let's say...
13:15Oh, that can go anywhere I call it.
13:16Fl...
13:17Fl...
13:18Flank.
13:19Top word, flank.
13:20Yep.
13:23Flank.
13:26Right.
13:26So what's left?
13:28That's good.
13:29What's it?
13:30One word's probably going to end in Y.
13:32Y.
13:33Um...
13:33Doug.
13:35Okay.
13:36Do...
13:36Do...
13:37Do...
13:37Do...
13:38Let me see.
13:40Um...
13:41Oh, maybe it isn't flanked.
13:43Dutchie.
13:44Dutchie.
13:44Brilliant answer.
13:45Are you moving them right, though?
13:46Are they staying in the vertical?
13:48And magma.
13:49Magma from a volcano.
13:50Yep.
13:51No, no, no.
13:52Sorry.
13:53Sorry.
13:53Very good.
13:54The back...
13:55Oh, you've got it.
13:56Very good.
13:56That was so weird, because...
13:58There was a moment there where the letters were out of their verticals, and I thought you're
14:03not going to rescue it.
14:03You're being very polite.
14:04There was a moment there where we were a total mess.
14:07No, very good.
14:08But listen, three out of three.
14:09Very good, eh, Karen?
14:10Very good.
14:10No messing here.
14:12Okay.
14:13Let's head back to our seats.
14:18So how did you get on and home with that?
14:20Did you manage to beat Sally and Sean?
14:21They were fast, actually, weren't they?
14:23If you didn't, don't get two down.
14:25One or seven across?
14:29Come on.
14:30So, well done, Sally and Sean.
14:31Your trip to the letterbox scored you 12 points, and we should look at the scoreboard
14:35and see where that leads us.
14:36Obviously, a bit of an advantage for Sean and Sally, because they've been to the letterbox.
14:39Carol and Paul on seven.
14:41Sean and Sally, 19.
14:43Oh, it's not the go-right.
14:45We have got the show right now.
14:47What's the title of your autobiography, Paul?
14:49Oh, that's very kind of you to ask.
14:50It's called One Sin Her Lifetime.
14:54Yay!
14:54It's never been nice.
14:55A better title, everyone.
14:57Nice.
14:58That is a pun to die for.
15:00Okay, it is time for us to rest our weary brains for a few minutes.
15:04We're going to take a quick ad break, and we'll see you after this.
15:07APPLAUSE
15:08Have a go at this path words puzzle.
15:12Swap the letters in just one column to reveal the answers.
15:16Choose wisely.
15:17Did you manage to solve this path words puzzle?
15:32If you got it right.
15:34Well done.
15:34Welcome back to Celebrity Puzzling.
15:40Our captains, Sally Lindsay and Carol Vorderman, have been joined by some true big hitters of Quiz World.
15:45Paul Sinner and Sean Williamson.
15:47What a line-up.
15:48If you saw these four stroll into your local pub quiz, chances are you'd sup up and head home.
15:54Right, Carol and Paul, you now get your chance to bank some bonus points by taking your turn at the letterbox.
15:59To make sure things are fair, you'll also be playing path words.
16:03So, Carol and Paul, join me now at the letterbox.
16:08So, Carol and Paul, in your first puzzle, the first letter of each word plus two extra letters will be locked.
16:14When you're happy, press the buzzer.
16:16For three points, here's your first path words.
16:19O-M-R.
16:20A C and an R.
16:26Where are we?
16:26O-T.
16:30Mound.
16:33C.
16:33Oh.
16:35So, that goes in there.
16:37I haven't lost that.
16:38So, we've got other.
16:39Then, we want...
16:41Oh, heck.
16:42I'm not sure it is other.
16:43Maybe it isn't other.
16:46Erm...
16:47What is...
16:49Heck.
16:50This has to be Y, doesn't it?
16:52Yes, that has to be Y.
16:55Mercy.
16:57Mercy.
16:58Mercy's me.
16:59I actually you were convincing me that you've got astray there and it was all
17:11yeah part of the plan of course yes it wasn't it this is why this game makes me
17:15very nervous okay well done you've done it here's your new set of letters as we
17:21saw earlier the difficulty increases as we lock the first letters and only one
17:24extra letter so for four points your time starts now VBL and an A
17:33hack voter oh where did that go that went in there that went oh my lordy
17:47voter bland B-L-A-N-G and later and late oh oh this is a can't move it if it's a
17:59lighter towel let's locked in position Blair Blair to the land Blair ten seconds
18:07left oh it defeated you so let's just see what went wrong there because voter look
18:20good to me but you moved out of the vertical so yeah because when you were
18:27doing that brilliant thing you do which is a must say a absolute highlight of the
18:31whole show something went out of position basically it should have been here so
18:39let me show you so this the D was here actually the D slipped so it would have
18:44been played and learn there we go oh what a shame that is what what a shame
18:50no it is though I would have totally done that yeah you did sound like you meant it
18:54for a second okay we're having a lovely time but listen lessons are learned here's
19:02your new set of letters it gets harder again this time I will only lock the first
19:08letter of each word but solving the puzzle is worth a huge five points so your time
19:12starts now RTF all right so it can't be W so it has to be U up there yeah yeah so do
19:23that roughs is that a word yeah R U F F okay I'm not don't do yeah don't do that
19:33thing slide it up the bottom that's it yeah okay I'll do that Paul you carry on with that all right
19:42you've got roughs yeah I've got roughs flex flex tweak tweak
19:51I've done the same again the thing something went wrong yeah if you swap the A and the E here
20:07yeah you get flack and tweets yeah so you actually you didn't move them out of the vertical this
20:13wasn't that error it was just one of those those two that things the game that I feared all along
20:19it's been a lot of shocker but it's been difficult it has been a shocker the situation is serious but
20:25it's not yet grave please head back to your seats thank you
20:30so how many points did you rack up at home Carol and Paul your visit to the letterbox has scored you
20:39three points don't worry Paul it was tough it's the one you dreaded isn't it it's the one I looked at
20:44I thought I'm not going to be very good at this and so it turned out well I mean I felt for you I
20:50think it was just a series of different things happening all at once so for our next round I've
20:55poured some pop into the puzzles this is our song cipher time to find out who's top of the pot and
21:03who's more bargain bin so here's an example where the category is the Beatles I'll just show you this
21:09and each cipher is a letter and therefore a well-known song title is concealed by the code
21:17anyone want to have a go Eleanor Rigby let's see if you're Eleanor Rigby
21:21how did you do that well I got that one how did you do oh I see it's the baby bottle yeah okay
21:29clever clever so if you get it straight away you get three points if you're struggling I reveal one
21:34of the ciphers and the points on offer drop to two if you still can't get it a second cipher letter
21:39will make the puzzle easier to solve but then it's worth just one point so I would have given you B
21:44and then E as we went through any favorite karaoke tune for you Sean it's got to be something inside
21:50so strong oh yeah was it the Obama inauguration where somebody somehow cut you into it it was
21:56better than that or worse it was Donald Trump very quickly I sang the song at the world bowls
22:01indoor championship yes and it went viral yeah and then some bright spark made it look like I was
22:06singing at Donald Trump's inauguration the idea being because no one wanted to touch with a barge pole
22:11the idea being the only person desperate enough to sing it Trump's inauguration was Barry from
22:14Istanbul okay Carol and Paul here's your first song cipher Carol and Paul what have we got here
22:23so it's a sugar babe song everybody I literally don't know any of them sugar babe I can't name
22:29either a song or a sugar babe do you want me to give you a letter yes yeah okay reveal a cipher
22:36letter right so the trumpet is an R not a clue did that help a bit no I'm thinking that the guitar
22:43might be an E but yeah or an N do you want a second letter yes please okay wow we're stumping you here
22:51the drum the snare drum is K got a couple of drums in there freak like me yeah let's see if that's oh
22:59wow wow so well done Sally and Sean your first song cipher they're putting on the star the other team
23:09there it is it's an Elvis Presley song all right okay Elvis Presley yeah got it I've got it yeah
23:15fly me okay yeah three points if you got it we think it is we think it's an inverted green thing is is
23:22oh oh and and there's exclamation marks of D go on hound dog is it hound dog yes it is well done
23:30all three points that's a good score how did you get there straight away uh-huh I'm a big fan I'm too
23:39it's brilliant isn't it yeah hound dog well done mate brilliant but he has probably got 400 songs Elvis
23:44so yeah yeah but there's not many that are that short and only have a three-letter word clever it is
23:50clever it's almost clever one getting a bit harder now for your next puzzle I'm not going to give you
23:54the artist ah just the decade here we go Carol Paul the decade and the cipher we're using flags it's an
24:0480s song what's that last word gonna be you why three points on offer if you can get this without any
24:15clues I can see no patterns here anything we've got is that the first two letters of the first one
24:20and I'm just trying to think what the three-letter word is okay let me give you a letter here so I
24:27could tell you why are you that the Jamaica flag is the a jam another one gosh I know you want to get
24:36it Paul I could see you just surging there I will offer you another cipher thank you okay down to one
24:43point there we are w a says war so what you got it do you want to guess before Sean says I've no idea
24:50Paul no okay Sean walk this way walk this way walk this way I suppose there's a little pattern there
25:02with w a isn't there that's what can go the end of after w a year don't get any points for though do
25:07you you don't get any points but it's good showing off yeah very good showing off yeah very good so
25:14okay Sally and Sean got to put your money where your mouth is now here's yours we only give you
25:19the decade oh my it's a horrible word oh it's a 2020 song that's it over okay so there's every chance
25:27that the gray hexagon is a vowel 20 song oh my oh and there's three yellow ones um it's gonna sound
25:35silly I know it's a really well-known 2020 song you know it do you need a letter do you need a cipher
25:39I think I think we do yeah okay let's give you one there so down from three points to two now if
25:43you get it right and that is an I so you correctly said the gray hexagon is a vowel the decade is the
25:51biggest problem for me because my musical knowledge stops in about 1987 when the smiths broke up
25:58I don't think we're gonna rain raining let me give you one more yeah okay so reveal another cipher
26:06please so the one that you mentioned the yellow one is the e but the last word ending ence
26:12e-n-c-e i'm just clutching the stores here really see if you can give me something no it's the 2020s
26:20we've done yeah no okay go on you tell us but I've got it by thinking name a 2020 song that I've heard
26:28of and the only one I've heard of is driver's license by olivia rodriguez that's exactly right
26:32oh my god I've never got it in a year
26:34the ence and you've got to be the UK spelling wouldn't it have license so that was very smart of
26:39you sean to say ence at the end because you're sort of there with that now tougher still no artist
26:45or decade I know you're looking forward to this pulsa okay so what song title is this carolyn paul
26:54so so one of them appears four times yeah so what kind of letter can that be an e okay I'll take it
27:06eye of the tiger let's see eye of the tiger for three points oh my goodness me I'm wondering if
27:15you're doing that by saying the most common letter is e yeah so you see what appears the most is that
27:20right is that your that's very much the way in yeah quizzy way of doing it I also figure that might
27:24be the third word might be the with the pattern very good very very good 1982 for survivor UK number
27:32one okay nice while it lasted yeah he is a quiz we're in a nice place from Sean's a quizzer too
27:41here's yours then Sally and Sean oh good lord so lovely animals for you right I don't give you a
27:47decade I don't give you an artist a double letter it could be double s ending of in cloth cloth in
27:54pretty in pink there's no one in the end no that's the only one tell me if you need a cipher revealed
28:02in on in on double letter uh b c top of could be s but s but I don't know what that would be
28:11grass of oh got it let's give it a go should we go brass in pocket let's see if it works because
28:18there's nothing else to go on yeah I think I think he's got it brass in pocket brass in pocket let's
28:24see wow yes well done brass in pocket which of course was a 1979 hit for the pretenders it's a
28:33little bit um supernatural you two when you're on form my goodness well done oh that's extraordinary
28:40both of you at the end of that round Carol and Paul have let us see 14 Sean and Sally 25
28:48so it's time for another break I can already tell that Paul is going to spend these few minutes
28:56productively by revising every winner of the men's French Open I'll probably go and raid the
29:02green room fridge I'll see you soon if you want to keep puzzling see if you can complete the vertical
29:09word to solve this hurdle get puzzling have you completed the missing word and solve this hurdle
29:28if you solved it well done welcome back to celebrity cousin I'm still Jeremy Vine and my guests are
29:38still looking for answers both in our games and I like to think in some larger philosophical sense
29:42too time to get on with the action and we know Paul and Sean can answer questions on the history of
29:48Shetland hand knitting but this one is going to test them in a different sense we are going to play
29:53join the dots okay you like this one Sally yeah she's good at it she's got a sense of it so it's
30:03played on the buzzer which always adds a certain free song try not to abuse your your buzzer please
30:09not afraid to have them turned off if there's any buzzer abuse in this round you'll be shown a puzzle
30:14consisting of a category and a series of dots let's just give you an example
30:19we see bird here and we're looking for a bird you start to try and identify the bird give me a shout
30:26if you can kookaburra well done is that you sure
30:30so the first player to buzz in and give the correct answer will score one point if a player buzzes and
30:39is wrong the animation will freeze the opposition have the chance to score a point instead okay so
30:45you see how it works time for a proper one now Carol Paul Sally Sean fingers on buzzers here we go
30:51it's a tree
30:57Carol silver birch let's see silver birch is right
31:04yeah she's good at this you see it it's the motto of southern united one of my favorite football teams
31:11the fans shout we see things other people don't see
31:14it's a great motto Carol has that this round next one fingers on buzzers here we go this is a game
31:25Sean trivial pursuit
31:33wrong right you two can have a look at what we've got so far and try and answer it
31:40Tiddlywinks Tiddlywinks Tiddlywinks is right
31:44here's the next one category world leader
31:52Paul Justin Trudeau yeah Justin Trudeau
32:08is the right answer time for another so capital city
32:16yes Sally Buenos Aires yes very good
32:22well done
32:23Buenos Aires is right
32:25okay next one please this is now church
32:33Paul
32:44Sagrada Familia yeah Sagrada Familia yes you have it right well done
32:51fingers on buzzers who is the next one scientist
32:57Carol
33:01no I know it's wrong I was going to say Albert Einstein but it's a bit too obvious
33:05what do you do Paul what do you do Paul when you're in a TV quiz to go over to the others and go over to the others it's wrong
33:07what do you think
33:08what do you think
33:10you've gone for it very early Carol haven't you
33:12it's like an A
33:13yeah
33:15is it Alistair no there's an R at the end is there an Alistair
33:17that's an S
33:18who invented penicillin Alexander Fleming Alexander Fleming Alexander Fleming yeah
33:21Alexander Fleming Alexander Fleming
33:24Alexander Fleming very good
33:25it's nervey what do you do Paul when you're in a TV quiz to keep yourself calm
33:37I sort of have a sort of micro sleep really fall asleep nobody notices it's great
33:44like 10 seconds yeah just have you done it already today three times I'd worry that I wouldn't wake up if I
33:53more than one game
33:55at the end of that round let's see the scores
33:58so
33:59Carol and Paul
34:0118
34:02Sean and Sally
34:0427
34:06still a bit to go because you've got your letterbox to come of course
34:11are you beating our celebrities so far
34:13there is still plenty to play for ahead of our final decisive round memory bank
34:17so it's time for one last trip to the letterbox to play
34:20Fenundrum
34:22this puts the fun into conundrums although it's a lot more fun if you actually get things right
34:28and the fastest team to solve their puzzle in this round will get two bonus points
34:32so this is how it works you will see three anagrams each a letter longer than the one before
34:38you must rearrange the tiles to solve the five letter anagram then you do the six letter one and so on
34:44the correct answers here anyone shout them out if you can just for our example
34:48harmony
34:50harmony at the bottom you're solving them in reverse order I like that
34:54first one
34:56decay
34:58and the second one is sailor
35:00and then harmony
35:02okay so decay sailor harmony
35:04sounds like a sort of poem doesn't it
35:06yeah sounds like a really bad hairspray
35:08yeah
35:10so as ever you'll be against the clock as soon as you've solved the third anagram
35:14just hit the button to stop the clock
35:16but how fast will you be
35:18Usain Bolt
35:20or couch to 5k
35:22two points for solved word
35:24solve all three anagrams faster than your opponents
35:26and you will get a precious two bonus points as well
35:28and Sean please meet me at the letter box to face your fate and your fenundrum
35:32we're now going to solve them in order
35:36and hit the buzzer when the third one has gone green your time starts now
35:40bones

36:24hit the buzzer
36:26well done
36:28i love that
36:30you can see the way these letters are laid out
36:32there was a certain speed
36:34yes there was a little bit
36:35you got a speed on
36:36i do apologize
36:37well done
36:38so you put the y at the end Sean that's a good tactic
36:40well yeah it could have gone horribly wrong but most words with a y an end and a y
36:42okay you got three bones misery alchemy so well done Sally and Sean you scored six we'll see if you get the bonus points after your opponents have played but before Carol and Paul face their fenundrum we'll take a short break for them to gather their thoughts and for you to gather a cup of tea and a biscuit join us after the break for another celebrity puzzling climax
37:02why don't you try unscrambling this fenundrum during the ads
37:12best of luck
37:16did you successfully solve this fenundrum
37:30if you did great puzzling
37:32welcome back to celebrity puzzling you join us as we reach the denouement of a truly epic battle of brains between Carol and Paul and Sally and Sean
37:44it's been great to watch the four of you playing
37:46let's get right back into it Carol and Paul
37:48it's time for you to face the fenundrum
37:50you'll have three new anagrams to solve
37:52remember you must solve them in order
37:54you need to solve all three faster than
37:56Sally and Sean in order
37:58to earn the two bonus points
38:00so let's head on up to the letterbox for your turn to play fenundrum
38:06remember to solve them in order
38:08and hit the buzzer when the third one turns green
38:10and your time starts now
38:12black
38:14wile
38:26black
38:28well done
38:30while is right
38:32black
38:34black
38:36peel
38:38Oh, look at this. Look at this.
38:42Well done.
38:45I mean, ache was beguiling, wasn't it?
38:48Because ache looked right.
38:49But it wasn't nickache, was it? Or sinache?
38:51No, sinache. Well, sinache.
38:53It could be a sinache.
38:56I like the way also just, you know, not critiquing here,
38:59but the way while was gradually sliding off the table.
39:02We got our green notes and we were all right.
39:05It was an internationally recognised distress signal.
39:06All right, so you've got while, plaque and chicane.
39:09That's a very good play, because chicane is not an obvious word.
39:12And that's a great effort. Please head back to your seats.
39:19Well, I mean, both of you were no slouches there.
39:22You solved your fenundrums, but the fastest
39:24and therefore the winners of the two bonus points.
39:27Anyone take a guess?
39:29It was very close.
39:31Well, you were both very fast, but the winners were Carol and Paul.
39:34Yay!
39:36So, that means going into the final.
39:39The scores are as follows.
39:41Carol and Paul, who did well in that last round.
39:4426.
39:45Now, are Sean and Sally close?
39:4833.
39:49That's not a lot, bud.
39:5233.
39:53Not a lot, innit?
39:54Playing well.
39:55So, it's all been leading, inevitably, to this, our final round.
39:58Memory bank.
39:59The whole thing can flip around in this round.
40:04This is for all four of you to play.
40:06And I'm going to show you 12 numbers.
40:08Underneath those numbers are 12 words.
40:11Try your best to memorize those words and their positions
40:13before they are covered up again by the numbers.
40:16I'll then ask questions against the clock.
40:18You must buzz in and give me the number concealing the correct answer.
40:22If an answer has more than one word, you must say all the corresponding numbers in the correct order.
40:29You'll score a point per word.
40:31If you're ready, I won't say any more to distract you.
40:343, 2, 1, reveal the memory bank words.
