00:00Hello, I'm Jeremy Vine, and this is the show where two celebrity teams face a series of head-scratching puzzles designed to leave them and you at home, saying,
00:10Wait, what? No, hang on. Let me write that down. Give me a minute. I was just about to say that. This is Celebrity Puzzling.
00:30Hello, welcome to the show. First of all, let's meet our team captain. She's a quiz whiz with decades in the biz.
00:36It is the legendary Carol Vorderman. And facing Carol tonight, one of the most recognisable faces on the telly, esteemed actress, underrated puzzle solver, Sally Lindsay.
00:50So, two great special guests on Carol's team. It's Olympic gold medal winning hockey superstar who's here to think Quek.
00:58It's Sam Quek. And alongside Sally, much-loved comedian and writer, say a big hello to Don Jolly.
01:06I went early on the phone. I'm so sorry. Are you about to do a tour of Trigger Happy?
01:12Yeah, I am. It's the 25th anniversary of it, which just makes me feel so old, doing four massive Trigger Happy shows.
01:19Were you even born, Sam, for Trigger Happy? Oh, yeah. It was iconic, wasn't it? A big Nokia ringtone.
01:24Yeah. I thought for a while you went through a post-Trigger Happy period where if somebody said, hello, I'm on the phone, you got really cross.
01:31I still get cross about it, yeah. It's been 24 years. It's fine. For this year, it's fine. I'm celebrating it, so it's good.
01:36And you are a former diplomat, so you can't swear.
01:39I can swear. That's why it went kind of badly wrong. I was a diplomat in Prague, and while I was there, Czechoslovakia split up, but it was not my fault.
01:46So, Sam, great to have you here. Pinnacle of your career as a sports superstar, if we leave aside the gold medal.
01:54Being here today.
01:55Yay!
01:56I thought so.
01:57Silver medal will be good for you, I think.
01:58Yeah.
01:59Any medal's good for fighting, too.
02:01Let's see. And you were lucky 13, weren't you?
02:04Yeah, lucky 13. It always stuck with me. I think I used to live at 13, and then alphabetically with Q.
02:10And naturally used to just fall into slot 13, and naturally get given the 13 shirt.
02:15No superstition here.
02:16No.
02:17Well, we're both Vs. We're both Vorderman and Vine. That's unusual, I think. We're probably last to be picked.
02:21Always last.
02:22Yeah.
02:23You can have a power nap waiting for them to call you name, can't you?
02:26Okay. So, thank you, teams. This is a serious quiz. There's no prize money, though.
02:32What?
02:32There's nothing.
02:33What?
02:34There's nothing at all. And actually, it's jolly good fun.
02:37Is it?
02:37Dom, I'm reassuring you.
02:38So, our teams face a random selection of our fiendishly tricky array of go-to puzzles, meaning no two contests are ever the same.
02:46Players, you'll face a bunch of fun, if frustrating, puzzles in order to score as many points as possible.
02:51And as normally is the case, those points are important because you will want as big a lead as possible going into the final round, the memory bank.
02:58So, without further ado, time to find out the identity of round one. Let's get puzzling.
03:02The first puzzle tonight is heat map.
03:08All right. So, it's perfectly okay to be nervous ahead of your first puzzle, but try to remember it is only a game.
03:15No one will laugh at you for getting a question wrong, although that may depend on how wrong.
03:19This is how it works.
03:20For each puzzle in this round, the contestants are shown an image of a QWERTY keyboard.
03:25Above the keyboard is a category there. You can see ACTOR, and the letters used to type the answer are highlighted on the keyboard like that.
03:32The colours are important. Yellow means the letters used once, orange twice, and red three times or more.
03:39From this, you must work out the answer. Do you want to go at that, ACTOR?
03:43I always just go ROGER MOORE, whatever the question is.
03:46Well, I was looking for Sylvester Stallone, but he's not there.
03:48I've got lots of O's. Lots of O's.
03:52Val Doonica. Want to see it?
03:53Val Doonica!
03:55Val Doonica!
03:56No. Go on, let's have a look at the answer of this example.
03:59It is Woody Harrelson.
04:00Oh. Yes, of course.
04:02I'd never have got that.
04:03There we are. Cheers. Natural Born Killers.
04:05Yeah, lots and lots of films, actually.
04:06And the world's first live film.
04:10Oh, really? What was that?
04:11Last night in London, they filmed it, and it was broadcast live into cinemas.
04:15Amazing.
04:15Did you know Woody and I have something in common? Neither of us have won an Oscar or a Golden Globe.
04:21He's been nominated for a few. Just like tonight, there are no points for second place.
04:25So it is a brutal contest, this. Carol, playing alongside Sam. Here is your first one.
04:30Oh, it's a first one.
04:30Heat map. Here we go.
04:32So, it's a mammal.
04:33A mammal.
04:35With lots of R's.
04:36Three R's.
04:37And you've got, yeah, three R's at least.
04:39And a Q, so there's a...
04:41So what's got a Q? Q-U in it.
04:43Squirrel.
04:45Squirrel. Red squirrel?
04:46Yes, definitely.
04:48Red. Yeah, I think it's red squirrel. I think you're right. Yes, go on. Go on. Red squirrel.
04:54Okay, Sam says red squirrel.
04:57Well done.
04:58She's a genius.
04:59That's great. I would have...
05:00If you're a massive Liverpool fan, anything with red, I'm like...
05:02Yeah, I saw a squirrel. I thought, what's the D doing?
05:06Yeah.
05:06They brilliantly got to it. They needed a red in it.
05:09Poor old red squirrels have been...
05:10They had a horrible time, haven't they?
05:12They lost the Great Squirrel Wars.
05:13They did, yeah.
05:15The Great Squirrels took over.
05:16Sally and Dom, here is your first heat map.
05:19So, chocolates.
05:22Lots of E's.
05:24Yellow is one mention.
05:26G is two.
05:27E is three or more.
05:28Is it chocolate like it?
05:29Is it sort of...
05:30Er...
05:32Oh, is it Easter egg?
05:35Yes.
05:36Is it Easter egg?
05:37Very good.
05:37Ooh.
05:37Let's see.
05:39Easter egg.
05:40Nice.
05:40Yes.
05:42Sounds amazing.
05:43Brilliant.
05:44Very good.
05:45One each.
05:46Carol and Sam, here's your next one.
05:48Right.
05:49The category flower.
05:50A flower.
05:51A flower.
05:51A flower.
05:52Ooh.
05:53Lots of D's, lots of O's.
05:56Rhododendron.
05:58Rho-do-den...
06:01Yeah, I'd go rhododendron.
06:03That's all you.
06:04Yeah.
06:05Yeah?
06:06Sounds good to me.
06:07I'm going for...
06:08Rhododendron.
06:11You saw that almost immediately.
06:13Is it right?
06:15Rhododendron is right.
06:16Oh, you did it.
06:17I love that extra for spelling it.
06:19Yeah, a long word with not that many letters in.
06:22Different letters.
06:22Sally and Dom, your next one.
06:24Let's have a look.
06:25Dip.
06:26A dip.
06:26Dip.
06:28Oh.
06:29Oh, is it?
06:29Yeah, it is.
06:30Is it, yeah?
06:31Yeah.
06:31I think it's one, I mean, my husband argue over all the time because I hate it and he loves it.
06:36Oh, I love it.
06:36Do you?
06:37Oh, he loves it.
06:37Oh, it's his husband.
06:39Erm, Taramasalata.
06:42Taramasalata.
06:44Hey!
06:45Yay!
06:46I like it, but it's very fishy, isn't it?
06:48Oh, it's lovely.
06:49Carol and Sam, your next heat map coming now.
06:52So, the category is American football team.
06:54You love this.
06:55I love American.
06:56She loves NFL.
06:57I do, I do, but the pressure's on that a lot of letters.
07:00Kansas, okay, so.
07:01Kansas Chiefs.
07:02Kansas City Chiefs.
07:04Is it Kansas City Chiefs, is it?
07:06Oh.
07:06That's my team as well.
07:07It's my team!
07:09Go on, say it.
07:10The Kansas City Chiefs, without the the.
07:13Kansas City Chiefs, says Sam.
07:16Let's see.
07:17They're so impressive.
07:19So, that is your team, is it?
07:20That is my team.
07:21And I do have to clarify, they are a very, very popular team at the moment.
07:25They are.
07:25Because they've won a number of Super Bowls.
07:27They should have won the three, Pete.
07:28They should have won the third.
07:29They should have bought.
07:30But the best thing is, the captain is going out with Taylor Swift, is that right?
07:34Yes, so the tight end, who's the captain of that offense.
07:37Tight end?
07:38Tight end.
07:39He's a tight end.
07:40That's what first attracted her.
07:41Without going out with Tay Tay.
07:43And that's another reason why they're popular.
07:44Tay Tay.
07:45However, I did support them before Taylor Swift.
07:47But I thought they lost their last big game.
07:48Did they lose a final somewhere?
07:49Yeah, the Super Bowl.
07:50Yeah, but they won the two years before, so they're pretty, they're doing quite well.
07:53OK, Sally and Dom, children's book.
07:57Um, so G.
08:05Yeah.
08:06Um.
08:06Not G's.
08:08No.
08:08No U.
08:09Um.
08:10At least three G's.
08:12Uh, three G's.
08:13Orange is two.
08:15Yellow is one.
08:15Uh, is it a grape, um, grape something?
08:19Grape.
08:20Grape.
08:21Um.
08:22I'm thinking of Roald Dahl books.
08:24I'm thinking of Roald Dahl books at the moment.
08:27A peach.
08:28What's the chocolate one?
08:29Charlene's Chocolate Factory.
08:30It's not that.
08:31It's not, uh.
08:31Amazing peach.
08:33Amazing peach.
08:33Are we going off a bit with Roald Dahl?
08:35What about Enid Blyton?
08:36Oh, yeah.
08:37It's hard, isn't it?
08:38I can't get it.
08:39Uh.
08:40My head hurts.
08:41Yeah.
08:41Uh.
08:42I'm going to kick myself for this, because.
08:44It's, I can, I can see something.
08:47Mike's having an answer.
08:48Yeah.
08:48Yeah.
08:49Um.
08:51Ah.
08:51No.
08:52Sorry.
08:54So, nothing there.
08:55It is green eggs and ham.
08:57Ah.
08:58Never heard of it.
08:59Yeah, of course.
08:59Dr. Seuss.
09:00Dr. Seuss.
09:01Never heard of it.
09:01Yeah, yeah.
09:02Oh, my God.
09:02Green eggs and ham.
09:03Never have got that, no.
09:05Never heard of it, and I've got two very small children.
09:06Well, you need to get it.
09:07It's amazing.
09:07Yeah, I do.
09:08Clearly, it's an iconic children's book, yeah.
09:10Ooh, the first slip.
09:12How did you get on at home?
09:13Are you giving our celebrities a run for their money?
09:15At the end of our first round, Carol and Sam have got six points, and then the slip
09:20on the green eggs and ham means Dom and Sally are on four.
09:25Okay, you can fight back, though.
09:26You know that.
09:28Sally is a doughty fighter.
09:30Carol and Sam, how are you feeling now?
09:31We're up for it, aren't we?
09:32Yeah, we're there.
09:33I can see that.
09:33We're warmed up first round in.
09:35Okay, time for another puzzle.
09:36It's your first trip to the letterbox.
09:38Carol and Sam, you're up first.
09:39The game you're playing tonight is thirdle.
09:44Let's just see how it works.
09:45You're going to see three words, each with the third letter missing.
09:48You need to fill in those missing letters to spell a new word vertically, and you're against
09:54the clock.
09:54Is there any thoughts here?
09:56Yeah.
09:56Yeah.
09:56Go on.
09:57Jammy, frail, depo.
09:59Jammy, frail, depo.
10:01And you get map.
10:02Well done.
10:03So you're against the clock in this round.
10:05You'll score three points if you solve the puzzle.
10:07So, Carol and Sam, let's head over to the letterbox to play thirdle.
10:15All right.
10:15Remember, when you're ready to lock in your answer, hit the button.
10:18So, Carol and Sam, here's your first thirdle.
10:19Okay.
10:21Offer F.
10:22Yeah.
10:23What goes in there?
10:24Uh, light, loops, light, loops, loops.
10:29Oh, oh, oh, come on.
10:30Fog.
10:31I've got the O.
10:34There we are.
10:35That's it.
10:37So, well done.
10:37Offer, loops, fog.
10:38Yeah.
10:39Fog is the right final answer there.
10:41Very good.
10:41Let's see your next set of letters.
10:43Your second puzzle will have four words with the third letter missing.
10:46You'll need to spell a new four-letter word vertically.
10:48It is worth four points.
10:50Here we go.
10:50Here we go, Sam.
10:51Right, come on.
10:52What have we got?
10:53Uh, ice.
10:54No.
10:55Icing.
10:56Icing.
10:57Icing.
10:58Uh, what's in there?
11:00Uh, Sally.
11:01Sally?
11:02I don't know.
11:03Is it with that?
11:03Uh, c-c-c-c-c-conus.
11:06No, that doesn't work.
11:09Uh, that's, uh, oh, wow.
11:11Askew.
11:12Askew.
11:13Askew.
11:13Askew.
11:14K-I-
11:14K-I-
11:15K-I-
11:15K-I-
11:15K-I-
11:16K-I-
11:17K-I-
11:17K-I-
11:17K-I-
11:18K-I-
11:19K-I-
11:19K-I-
11:20K-I-
11:22K-I-
11:22K-I-
11:22K-I-
11:22Maybe that's not Sally.
11:23Canoe.
11:24Canoe.
11:24Canoe.
11:25Well done, Sam.
11:26Brilliant.
11:27G.
11:29The king.
11:30Your time is nearly up.
11:30No, sadly, sadly.
11:32Five seconds.
11:33Go on, just softly.
11:34S-ah.
11:35King.
11:35Sir, Sam.
11:36Oh!
11:37Sadly!
11:39Sadly!
11:39Sadly!
11:40Go on, stick it in there.
11:42So, sadly.
11:42That's it.
11:43Would have given us time.
11:45Oh, you're out of time.
11:46Let's see your next set of letters.
11:48Your final puzzle.
11:49You're going to have five words.
11:50Okay, stakes are high.
11:52Five-letter word vertically, we want.
11:54Cured.
11:54Cured.
11:54Cured.
11:55Pop that in.
11:56Marry.
11:56Yeah, marry.
11:58Marry.
12:00Vigil.
12:01Marry.
12:03Vigil.
12:05Mourn.
12:06Mourn.
12:08Sunny.
12:09Where's the N?
12:09You've got the N.
12:11Sunny.
12:12That's not vigil.
12:13That's not how you spell it.
12:14Viral.
12:15How many R's are there?
12:16No.
12:16So, what's up there?
12:18Grr.
12:19Grr.
12:20Grr.
12:21Oh, man.
12:23Maybe it's not married.
12:26Maybe it's...
12:27What else could go in there?
12:28Ten seconds left.
12:30Oh, stop.
12:32Marry.
12:33Marry.
12:33Ah!
12:35Marry.
12:35Vigil.
12:36Vigil.
12:38No, way off.
12:39I'm just wondering, one of your words would be cubed,
12:41and then you put the R in there.
12:43Yeah.
12:43You've got the R.
12:44So, the R is there, and then we go vital down there.
12:47Vital.
12:48You've got a T.
12:49Brunt.
12:49Brunt.
12:50No.
12:51We were way off.
12:52Cubed.
12:52You sort of don't mind not getting it if you're way off.
12:55Yeah, I know what you mean.
12:57We don't mind you not getting it either.
12:58We're really happy.
12:59And brunt is a funny old word.
13:01Yeah.
13:01Dom's loving it over there.
13:02I know, he is.
13:03We've seen it before, where somebody takes a decision early on the first word,
13:07sticks with it, and everything else is locked.
13:10Correct.
13:11So, your trip to the letterbox has scored you three points.
13:16Sally and Dom will get your chance for some points at the letterbox in just a moment.
13:19We'll take a quick break first.
13:21Don't worry, we're keeping the puzzles warm for you when you get back.
13:24See you in a few minutes.
13:25If you want to keep puzzling, see if you can complete the vertical word to solve this thirdle.
13:34Get puzzling.
13:46Have you completed the missing word and solved this thirdle?
13:49If you did, great puzzling.
13:56Welcome back to Celebrity Puzzling.
13:58You don't have to be a famous face with a predilection for puzzling to work here, but it helps.
14:03Okay, it's now Sally and Dom's turn.
14:05Here is your first thirdle.
14:06Angle, okay, so it's agile, isn't it?
14:09Agile, agile, silly.
14:11Silly.
14:12And angle.
14:13Angle.
14:14That's not a word, is it?
14:17Angle.
14:18Ankle.
14:18Ankle.
14:19Ankle.
14:19Okay.
14:20Yeah.
14:21There we go.
14:21Oh, nice.
14:22Well done.
14:24I was going to say straight, the angle, we hit angle too early, but that's all right.
14:28Yeah.
14:28We're good.
14:29You've got it.
14:29Let's see your next set of letters.
14:31Your second puzzle will have four words with their third letters missing, and you'll need
14:34to spell a new four-letter word vertically.
14:36It's going to be four points.
14:38Here we go.
14:39Kebab.
14:40Kebab, yeah.
14:41House.
14:43House.
14:43Yes, you.
14:44House.
14:45Finch.
14:46Finch.
14:47Or filch.
14:47Let's go N first.
14:49N.
14:50Yeah, and pipes.
14:53No, so it's P.
14:54So let's say pipes.
14:56So what's that then?
14:57Bump.
14:57M.
14:58Oh, no, it can't be.
14:58No.
15:00B-U.
15:00What did you else?
15:01What else?
15:02Filch.
15:02Filch.
15:03Bulp.
15:03No, burp, isn't it?
15:04So, furt, furt.
15:05Oh, yeah.
15:06Is that a word?
15:06Furch.
15:07Another word, but let's try it.
15:08No, okay.
15:08No, it's not a word.
15:10Okay, so house.
15:11Do you have house?
15:12It's got to be house.
15:13Piles, it could be.
15:14Piles.
15:14Right, trail.
15:15Ten seconds.
15:16Okay.
15:17Burl.
15:17No, so what's the other one?
15:19Finch.
15:20Finch.
15:20Your time is nearly up.
15:21No.
15:21Filch.
15:22Um.
15:24Um.
15:24Yeah.
15:25No.
15:26It's interesting.
15:26Because if you could, if you've got Filch L in there, Filch is a word.
15:30Oh.
15:30Yeah, but you only got one L, right?
15:32Yeah, I only got one L, yeah.
15:33So you can't do that.
15:34So let's put in N for Finch.
15:38S.
15:38Do you get it?
15:39No.
15:39Yeah.
15:39What?
15:40I think it's Pikes.
15:42It's a K, guys.
15:43Pikes.
15:43Pikes.
15:44And Pikes.
15:45Let's stick the K in.
15:46Yeah, yeah.
15:46There we go.
15:46Yeah.
15:47Okay, so bunk it was.
15:48Happens to the best of us, Dom.
15:50There we go.
15:51I wouldn't have gone with Pikes.
15:52I wouldn't have thought of Pikes.
15:53Well, it's getting lively this round.
15:54Let's see your next set of letters.
15:57Your final puzzle has five words to solve.
15:59You'll need to spell a new five-letter word.
16:01It's worth a bumper.
16:02Five points.
16:03Here we go.
16:05Okay, decoy.
16:05Decoy.
16:06Let's try with that.
16:07Grain.
16:08Grain.
16:09Sorry.
16:10Yeah.
16:11Novel.
16:12Noble.
16:12Novel.
16:13Yeah, go on.
16:15Flack.
16:16Civil.
16:17Or flick.
16:19And apply.
16:20P.
16:22That's not a word.
16:23Apply, it is.
16:24Okay.
16:25Double P.
16:25We've got a P.
16:26No, that's not a word.
16:27Yeah, we've got a P.
16:27Apply.
16:28Oh, I see.
16:28Yeah, okay.
16:29Civil.
16:31Grain.
16:31Fleck.
16:32No, Gryan is not a word.
16:34Gryan.
16:34Yeah, I saw Gryan.
16:35So, what's that, then?
16:36Got in there.
16:37Grr, grr, grr.
16:38Grown.
16:38Grown.
16:39Your time is nearly up.
16:40Grr.
16:40Coven.
16:41No, coven.
16:42No, it's coffee.
16:43Covet.
16:44Covet.
16:45Covet.
16:45Yeah, fleck.
16:46Fleck, yes.
16:48And.
16:48T.
16:49Covet.
16:50Covet.
16:51Oh!
16:51Time ran out.
16:54But hang on.
16:55Do we even know what it is?
16:56So, you were wanting to go...
16:58Aptly, it is.
16:59It's a T.
16:59What?
16:59Aptly.
17:00Aptly.
17:01Aptly.
17:01It's covered.
17:02So, let's put that there.
17:03So, the T goes there and it's covered.
17:04But I was going with you on a ply.
17:06I thought it's got to be a ply.
17:07When we actually play the game, though, we're going to get it.
17:09Yeah.
17:10So, decoy, grown, novel, fleck, aptly.
17:14It's not all words that we use all the time.
17:16We're reaching here.
17:19Please head back to your seats.
17:20Oh, never mind.
17:25Well done, Sally and Dom.
17:27Your visit to the letterbox scores you three points.
17:30Let's have a look at the overall scores.
17:32What's happening here?
17:33It's a very tight game.
17:34Again, Carol and Sam on nine.
17:37Dom and Sally on seven.
17:40It doesn't feel tight.
17:42Well, it feels tight.
17:44Does it not feel tight to you?
17:45It's not tight enough.
17:48We did talk about a tight end.
17:50Kansas City.
17:50I did a tight end from Kansas City.
17:52It's not that tight.
17:54Sam, how are you feeling about puzzling?
17:56Puzzling as opposed to quizzing.
17:57I am naturally more of a quizzer.
17:59Yeah.
18:00General knowledge.
18:01I feel a lot better than I am sat next to Carol.
18:05We met, when was it?
18:072016.
18:09You just won the gold.
18:10Yes.
18:11Yeah.
18:11And I was at Pride of Britain.
18:12And you were in the jungle, correct?
18:13Yeah.
18:13And we've been very good friends ever since.
18:16I was at Sam's wedding.
18:17Yes.
18:19We bonded over throwing bar nuts into each other's mouth.
18:22Did you ever eat anything disgusting on the jungle?
18:27Pork testicles.
18:28Oh, gosh.
18:29Yes.
18:29I think you got worse.
18:31No, didn't you?
18:32Haven't eaten some funny things.
18:33What about you, Tom?
18:34Have you ever tried those?
18:35No.
18:35I mean, I was in the jungle, but I didn't eat anything.
18:38I didn't want to.
18:38But I did have to hang out a little bit opic.
18:41So...
18:41Springs and roundabouts.
18:43So, next up is all about how great, masterly, stroke talented, stroke gifted you are at, you guessed it, synonyms.
18:51So, this is, in other words...
18:53I'll show you an example here, particularly for our visitors.
19:00So, I show you initials to an answer and written beside each initial, you'll see synonyms for the word.
19:07And from the synonyms, you work out the answers.
19:09Let's have a look at this and see what we think.
19:12Tomb Raider.
19:13Tomb Raider.
19:14Mmm.
19:15The famous video game.
19:17We call it a video game?
19:18I don't.
19:18Do we do that anymore?
19:19Oh, yeah, I do.
19:20The kids do.
19:21Belt a fancy dress, Tomb Raider.
19:22I still play it.
19:24Oh, do you?
19:24I still play Tomb Raider.
19:25Fantastic.
19:26I still like playing Quake.
19:28That's enough of our...
19:29Quake, yeah, yeah.
19:29That's old school.
19:30Yeah, it is old school.
19:31Yeah.
19:32So, Carol, Sam, I'll let you start.
19:34Okay.
19:35In other words, one point, if you can get this, it's P.S.
19:39Gander, Spy, Glintz.
19:41Spy.
19:42Pageant, Spectacle, Presentation.
19:45Peep Show.
19:45Peep Show.
19:46Yeah?
19:47Yeah?
19:47You happy with that?
19:48I'm happy.
19:49You say it.
19:50Peep Show.
19:51Peep Show.
19:53It's right.
19:54Yay.
19:54Welcome, Carol and Sam.
19:56Bad lady.
19:57Sally, Dom, here's your first.

20:04Regal Sovereign Kingley.
20:07Seafaring, Nautical, Aquatic.

20:09Go on, you say.
20:10Royal Marine.
20:11Royal Marine.
20:14Yeah, very good.
20:15Yes.
20:16Yes.
20:17Nice.
20:19So level on this round so far.
20:21Carol and Sam, you're going to get fewer synonyms this time, but it is worth two points.
20:26Let's see.
20:28So P.O.
20:29O.
20:30Pole job.
20:32Your office.
20:33Something.
20:33Bureau department.
20:35Something office.
20:36Post office.
20:37Post.
20:37Post.
20:38Can I?
20:38Yeah.
20:39Ah, you have a post.
20:41Post on a job.
20:42And a pole.
20:43Yeah.
20:43Is a post.
20:44Yeah.
20:45Go on.
20:46Oh.
20:46Post office.
20:48Post office.
20:48Well done, both.
20:54So now Sally and Dom for two points.
20:57DM.
20:59Absolutely, certainly, possibly, perhaps.
21:02Yeah, got it.
21:02Yeah.
21:03Yeah.
21:04Definitely, maybe.
21:05Definitely, maybe.
21:08Very good.
21:11We've got a little Oasis connection, haven't we?
21:14Yeah, my brother-in-law played for them, yeah.
21:16Alan White.
21:16He plays for them?
21:17He did, Alan White, yeah.
21:18Really?
21:19That's good.
21:19So you managed to get tickets then?
21:21Did you get tickets at undynamic?
21:22No.
21:23No.
21:24So Carol and Sam, just one synonym per word now, the trickiest yet, but it's worth three points.
21:30Let's have a look.
21:31We've got SS.
21:32Sports.
21:33Athletic excitement.
21:34Sport.
21:36Sport.
21:37Sss.
21:38Show.
21:40Excitement.
21:41Excitement.
21:41Sparkle.
21:43Excitement.
21:45Sporting.
21:46Sporting.
21:47Athletic.
21:47Excitement.
21:50Joy.
21:51Have you got it there?
21:52No.
21:53But here we go.
21:53Sports.
21:54Sports.
21:55Science.
21:55Sports.
21:56Show.
21:56Sports.
21:58Super.
21:59Superstar.
21:59Might need an answer.
22:02Sports celebration with an S.
22:05I love it.
22:08Sports.
22:09I think the time is going to go.
22:10Sports star.
22:11Sports star.
22:12Sports.
22:13Oh.
22:14No.
22:14That could have been gone.
22:15Go on.
22:15You do know.
22:16I can't work it out.
22:17I wonder if it might be sporty spice, but I don't know.
22:19Oh, it is.
22:20Okay.
22:20Well done.
22:21That's unlucky.
22:22That was really hard.
22:22That was really undust.
22:23You got a hard one like that.
22:24Yeah, don't be that upset.
22:25That was bad.
22:26Okay.
22:26Dom.
22:27Sally.
22:27Yours.
22:28This is going your way now.
22:30So it's harder.
22:31Just one synonym.
22:32Typical citizens.
22:34MP.
22:34People.
22:36Oh.
22:36Wasn't that a program, Normal People?
22:39Yeah.
22:39That's what I feel it is.
22:41Well, that was a...
22:41Wasn't that a...
22:42Yeah.
22:42Let's go with it.
22:42Normal People.
22:43Normal People.
22:44Normal People.
22:46Go on.
22:48It was a TV drama.
22:50It was written by...
22:52What?
22:52Sally Rooney.
22:53Normal People.
22:53Is it a book?
22:54Yeah.
22:54Well, it was, and then it became...
22:56It was an everything.
22:56Book.
22:57Yeah.
22:57TV series.
22:58So, at the end of that round, Carol and Sam have got, let's see...
23:0312.
23:04Dom and Sally.
23:0613.
23:07Oh.
23:08Lucky for Sam.
23:1013.
23:1113's our number.
23:12There we are.
23:14Yeah.
23:14So, Team Carol, if you wanted to use one word to describe your performance there, what would
23:18it be?
23:19Spicy.
23:20Yeah.
23:21Right.
23:22The letters.
23:24V-A-R.
23:25Time for our celebs to unpuzzle themselves over the break.
23:28We'll see you soon.
23:32Have a go at this Path Words puzzle.
23:34Swap the letters in just one column to reveal the answers.
23:38Best of luck.
23:39Here's the solution to your Path Words puzzle.
23:55If you got it right.
23:56Well done.
23:56Welcome back to Celebrity Puzzling.
24:02It's safe to say our team captains, Carol and Sally, have their eyes on the prize, which
24:06is a shame because there isn't one.
24:07So, time for our next round, shape-shifters.
24:10Have a look at the screen.
24:15You will see a grid of answers, a category and a corresponding shape.
24:18You've got to give me correct answers that fit exactly inside the shape.
24:22So, here it would be two squares next to each other.
24:24You cannot rotate the shape.
24:26So, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
24:29Yes.
24:29Where would you go here?
24:31Donatello.
24:31Raphael.
24:32Raphael.
24:33Okay, Donatello, Raphael.
24:35Let's have a look.
24:36There we go.
24:37Perfect.
24:38So, because it's gone orange, Leonardo, Michelangelo, they're right, but obviously they're not next
24:42to each other like the purple blocks are.
24:44So, Sally, Dom, first.
24:47Shapeshifter for real.
24:48Here we go.
24:48The points.
24:49Yep.
24:50Countries that border France.
24:52Okay.
24:53We want...
24:54We want...
24:55We want Italy.
24:57No, we want...
24:58Croatian...
24:59Baltimore.
25:00What?
25:00Is it not...
25:01No, no, no, no.
25:01No, no, what are we talking about?
25:03Oh, well, it's got to be in that way, okay.
25:05Yeah, it's got to be that way, you see.
25:06Yeah, yeah.
25:06Germany, Italy.
25:07This is crazy.
25:08Germany, Italy.
25:09No?
25:09No.
25:09No, it can't be Germany's over there.
25:11Well, it's...
25:12The only one it can be is...
25:14What?
25:14This is crazy, I know this.
25:16It has to be Italy and Germany, but Germany doesn't.
25:18Of course it does.
25:19It does, it does, yes.
25:20Of course it does.
25:20Sorry, I'm being crazy.
25:22Germany and Italy, yeah, of course.
25:23But you were...
25:24Were you a European-based diplomat?
25:26Yes, I was, yeah.
25:28I just went completely blank.
25:30Well, so, okay, well, let's see if you're right.
25:31Germany and Italy.
25:33Yes.
25:34Well, what caused the system to seize up there?
25:36We only did it to get them excited.
25:38Okay, there we are.
25:40So, yes, Germany and Italy, well done,
25:42and not Netherlands, Croatia, Portugal, Denmark, Liechtenstein.
25:46All right, Carol, are you feeling happy about this, Sam?
25:48You've got the measure of it?
25:49Yes.
25:49Okay, here it is yours now.
25:54Colors of faces on the original 1980s Rubik's Cube.
25:58The original.
25:58So, here we want one above the other, please.
26:01It was definitely a white.
26:03I don't think those are silver.
26:06I've got a feeling it's orange and yellow.
26:08What do you think?
26:10I never knew there was an original Rubik's Cube.
26:12Well, neither does it I really.
26:12To the original of what is now.
26:14I think there is a...
26:15You see, I'm so old, Sam, that I only know the 80s one.
26:19I only know that one.
26:20Yeah.
26:20Orange and yellow feel...
26:22It feels right.
26:23Yeah.
26:24Are we going strong on that?
26:26Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
26:28Orange and yellow.
26:29Orange and yellow.
26:31Let's have a look.
26:32The original Cube.
26:33Yes.
26:34Yes.
26:34Yes.
26:36They did a more complex one once Carol had cracked the original.
26:40I was juggling.
26:41Yeah, yeah, yeah.
26:41I used to take the stickers off.
26:43I used to do it blind.
26:43I did that.
26:44I used to take it apart and then put it together.
26:46Yeah, yeah.
26:46Oh, my Lord.
26:47I still can't do it.
26:48So, white and green as well, but obviously they're not next to each other like the purple blocks are.
26:54So, Sally and Dom, next up, here we go with your shapeshifter, fictional spies.
26:59Oh, Dom will love this.
27:01I will.
27:02Look at the shape, though.
27:03Okay.
27:04And you can't rotate the shape.
27:07So, it's got to be neck-shaped.
27:08Alex Ryder.
27:10Josh Miley, Austin Powers.
27:11Austin Powers is a spy.
27:12Yeah, he's an international op-site.
27:14So, you're definitely George.
27:16Yeah.
27:16Alex Ryder.
27:17I don't know Alex Ryder.
27:18Alex Ryder is as well.
27:19Yeah, I'd go with that.
27:20Would you?
27:20Isn't that Jackson Lansom?
27:22How about Jackson Lam?
27:23I don't know.
27:23She's got a room to her.
27:24She was a spy, so she's not fictional.
27:26Oh, she was an actual spy?
27:27Yeah, yeah.
27:28So, I think it's...
27:29Okay, because Jackson Lam is the guy Gary Ellman plays in Slow Horse, isn't it?
27:33I think it is that.
27:34Can we go with that?
27:35Okay.
27:35Alex Ryder, George Smiley, Austin Powers.
27:37Yeah.
27:38Okay.
27:38I'm just slightly worried about Alex Ryder, but I think it's right.
27:42All right.
27:42Let's see if you've got the right answer.
27:45Oh, you really doubt yourself on this.
27:50I wanted to go Bond, and I wanted to go Austin Powers.
27:52Jennifer Honey?
27:53She sounds like a Bond girl.
27:55She's the schoolteacher...
27:56Of Matilda.
27:57That's it.
27:57Oh, is she?
27:58Alex Ryder is the teenage spy created by Anthony Horowitz.
28:02Smiley is in John le Carré.
28:04Austin Powers, yeah, the famous movie.
28:06Modesty Blaze was originally in a cartoon strip.
28:09Oh.
28:10Carol and Sam, here's your second puzzle for three points now.
28:15Okay.
28:15Yeah.
28:16So, ballet terms.
28:17Oh.
28:18And look at the shape.
28:19You cannot rotate the shape.
28:20Okay.
28:22Right.
28:22So, arabesque is a definite one.
28:25Yes.
28:25A plié is one, isn't it?
28:27Definitely.
28:27A bain-marie is something they do in cookery.
28:29Yeah, and a roux as well.
28:31Anna roux is the same.
28:32Oh, okay.
28:33And a julienne, it sounds like a...
28:35That's julienne vegetables.
28:37Yeah.
28:38So, we've got plié.
28:39And fricassee.
28:40That was on my word and menu.
28:42It wasn't?
28:42It was on the posh side of the menu.
28:45I love attitude.
28:48Take an attitude.
28:49We did it back.
28:50Why do we know the food longer?
28:51So, we know the others don't work in that type of pattern.
28:55So, by a sense of deduction.
28:59Mmm.
29:00So, we're going arabesque plié entrescha.
29:03Yeah?
29:04If that's how you say it.
29:05By a process of elimination from the other food-esque words.
29:09Correct.
29:10Let's have a look.
29:11Plié arabesque entrescha.
29:13And it's right.
29:16Jeremy, could you demonstrate, please?
29:18Yes.
29:19Entrescha is a...
29:19I will not demonstrate.
29:20It's a jump with the feet crossing over in mid-air.
29:23Oh, come on.
29:24You can do that.
29:24Come on.
29:25A deep bending of the knees is the plié.
29:28Yes.
29:28The arabesque is standing on one leg with the other leg straight.
29:32Yes.
29:33And the attitude is just where you tell the teacher to take a running jump.
29:37Oh, actually, it's the position.
29:39Standing on one leg with the other leg bent.
29:41Oh, okay.
29:42Well, there we are.
29:43It's the flamingo, isn't it?
29:44Exactly.
29:45It is.
29:46Sally and Dom, your next one.
29:50Bands that had a UK number one hit in the 80s.
29:53It's going to be good here.
29:53And look at the pattern.
29:56It's a purple box with two diagonally up and down.
29:59It's not 80s.
30:00So, number one hit.
30:02Ultra box with Vienna, Daphne.
30:04The jam would have had a number one hit.
30:07That's not the same shape, though.
30:08No, no.
30:08And I'm thinking pulp didn't, so they...
30:10Oh, we're going through everyone.
30:11Yeah, no, I'm just going through the...
30:12U.K. number one in the 80s bands.
30:15Soft sell, Daphne.
30:16I'm thinking it's soft sell, starship, and spandard ballet.
30:19Was starship, Daphne, 80s?
30:21Yeah.
30:21It was.
30:21Yeah, because I meant...
30:22Soft sell, definitely, spandard, Daphne, and starship...
30:26No, the other ones.
30:27So, the thing is, if we look at the other shapes, it doesn't work.
30:29So, take that's 90s, Daphne, soft sell, UB40 is the 80s, but that shape, Oasis, wasn't...
30:35Oasis wasn't the...
30:36We know this for your connection.
30:37Yeah, so that's...
30:38Yeah, 100%.
30:39Spandard ballet, starship, soft sell.
30:40Are we happy?
30:41Yes.
30:41Yeah.
30:42Let's see.
30:43Soft sell, starship, spandard ballet.
30:45Come on.
30:46Is it right?
30:46Give me good news.
30:50Nothing's going to stop us now.
30:51Soft sell, tainted love, spandard ballet, gold, all of them.
30:55Karen and Sam, here's your next.
30:56This category is Real Live People, played on screen by Michael Sheen.
31:01Ah.
31:02So, one up, one down, one diagonal.
31:05You can't rotate the shape.
31:07Yes, definitely did Brian Clough.
31:09He did Brian Clough.
31:11I think he did Chris Tarrant, you know, in the coffee major.
31:14Yeah.
31:15On Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.
31:17I can't remember him doing Kenneth Williams.
31:19Yeah.
31:22Wasn't Winston Churchill?
31:23No, and that doesn't fit in the shape anyway.
31:25David Frost.
31:27Tony Blair.
31:30So.
31:30I don't know what's going on, is that?
31:31With Tony Blair.
31:32For me, it's either David Frost.
31:37Because he loves his politics, obviously.
31:38David Lloyd George Welsh.
31:41Carrie Grant.
31:42No.
31:43I'm tending to.
31:45Go for it.
31:45You said Cloughy.
31:47Go for the gamble of Kenneth Williams.
31:48Should we go for that?
31:50Yeah.
31:51You happy with that?
31:52Yeah, I just have to hope Brian Clough is right.
31:54Yeah, yeah.
31:54Cloughy, Chris Tarrant, and Kenneth Williams, although I can't remember that.
32:01Well, certainly the shape is the right shape.
32:03Brian Clough, Chris Tarrant, Kenneth Williams.
32:05Is it right?
32:06I don't remember Chris Tarrant.
32:12He's done Frost.
32:14He did Frost in Frost Nixon.
32:15Yeah.
32:15Yes.
32:16The movie, remember the movie that Clough was in?
32:18Yeah.
32:18Yes.
32:19The Damned United.
32:20Oh, yeah.
32:21And Tarrant was in a show called Quiz, which was a TV dramatization of the famous coughing
32:25incident.
32:26The weird one that nearly tripped you up was Kenneth Williams in Fantabulosa, which is nearly
32:3120 years ago now.
32:32Ah.
32:33So, yeah, there we are.
32:35I can't imagine having to do an impression of Kenneth Williams because it's so difficult.
32:38Oh, no, no, no.
32:40That's it.
32:41No, I'm like her.
32:42You've got nailed that.
32:44See, I'm just a Monke impressionist.
32:46That's it.
32:47OK, let's take a look at the scores at the end of that round.
32:50Carol and Sam have got how many?
32:5319.
32:53Dom and Sally, 20.
32:58And that felt like quite a sort of trench warfare there.
33:02We were fighting hard there.
33:03Are you beating our celebrities so far?
33:05There's still plenty to play for, as before, our final decisive round, Memory Bank.
33:10There's time for one last letterbox round.
33:12Now, in this one, both teams will be tackling the infamous letterbox again, but there's a twist.
33:16The fastest team to solve the puzzle will earn two bonus points, so it's all up for grabs.
33:22In this round, it is Fernandrum.
33:26Let me just show you how it works.
33:28Have a look at the screen here.
33:28You're going to see three anagrams, each a letter longer than the one before.
33:32It's straightforward.
33:33It's anagrams.
33:33You've got to rearrange the tiles to solve the five-letter one first, then the six, then the seven-letter.
33:38As ever, you'll be against the clock.
33:40You'll score two points per solved word.
33:43If you do all three faster than your opponents, you'll earn two bonus points.
33:48Let's just have a look at this, then.
33:50First one.
33:51First one.
33:54Tiara.
33:55Trait.
33:55Trait.
33:56Trait, Carol.
33:57Trait.
33:57Second one, anyone?
33:59Could it be skates?
34:00Skates.
34:00I'm just thinking.
34:01Oh, casket.
34:03Casket.
34:04Yes.
34:05And finally, do I have to draw you a...
34:07Diagram.
34:08Diagram.
34:09Very good.
34:09So there we are.
34:10There is...
34:10Well, we did well, lad.
34:11Yeah.
34:12Now there we are.
34:13You'll be helping us through our round as well, yeah?
34:15Yeah, I will help you.
34:16Yeah, of course.
34:17OK, Sally and Dom, you can go first, because for no other reason than I just said so.
34:21So please join me at the letterbox to face your fenundrum.
34:24As soon as you've solved the third anagram, hit the button to stop the clock.
34:30Your time starts now.
34:31OK.
34:32Er, cable.
34:34Right, you look at the next one.
34:35OK, sorry.
34:35Er, er, furt...
34:38Buffet.
34:40You haven't solved the first one yet.
34:42Cable.
34:42Sorry, sorry.
34:43I'm wrong, Sally.
34:44Buffet.
34:44Er, yep.
34:46Yep.
34:47And, er, trivial.
34:51Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh.
34:52No, it's not, it's not.
34:53Is it not?
34:54Wait, let's try.
34:55Let's try.
34:55Triv.
34:57Triv.
34:59Trivvy.
35:00Oh, no.
35:00Triv.
35:01Er, travail.
35:02Travail.
35:05Sorry.
35:05Sorry.
35:06Oh, sorry, I didn't mean to...
35:07No, no, you absolutely did.
35:08Trav.
35:08No!
35:09Ah.
35:10Er, OK.
35:11Woooah.
35:12Trav...
35:13So there's a V?
35:15Yeah.
35:15Trav, er, veil.
35:18So it has to be a veil, I think, something like that.
35:21Er, ale.
35:23Let's try that.
35:25Triv.
35:25Travail.
35:26Travail.
35:27No, no, it's Travail.
35:28Oh, Travail, of course it is.
35:29Er, Travail.
35:30Er, ver.
35:31Mm, rival.
35:33Right, no.
35:33Right.
35:34Your time is nearly up.
35:35OK.
35:35Er.
35:36Av.
35:37Av.
35:38Let's try and start with an A.
35:40Av.
35:41Are they...
35:42Ten seconds.
35:43That wasn't...
35:44No.
35:46No.
35:46Travail.
35:47Trav.
35:47Oh, I'm in pain here.
35:54Did you get it?
35:55What?
35:55You got it.
35:57Did I?
35:57You misspelled it.
35:59What?
35:59You had it, and then something weird, and I don't even know what happened.
36:03What?
36:03Travail.
36:03Travail.
36:04Travail.
36:05Triv...
36:05Trivial.
36:05Oh, Trivial.
36:06Why did we not spell that?
36:07No, you said it.
36:08Oh, my God.
36:08You said it.
36:09You said it, and then I tell you what happened is that for some reason when you were spelling
36:13Travail, you put the A there, and you said, oh, no, it's not that, and then you said the
36:18correct answer, well, she was still doing Buffet.
36:20I know, but then I couldn't spell it.
36:21Oh, lordy.
36:22I think everyone watching knows we won.
36:24Yeah.
36:26You still got four points there.
36:27You didn't solve all three anagrams, so you won't be in line for the bonus points, and
36:32it's almost time for Carol and Sam to face the fenundrum, but first, you've twisted
36:36my arm, so go on, have another ad break, and join us for more celebrity puzzling after
36:40this.
36:43Why don't you try unscrambling this fenundrum during the ads?
36:51Get puzzling.
37:04Did you successfully solve this fenundrum?
37:08If you did, great job.
37:13Welcome back to Celebrity Puzzling.
37:15I'm your host, Jeremy Vine, and you can tell that because all of our guests are looking
37:18at me while I say this.
37:20You join us as a pivotal part of puzzling proceedings as Carol and Sam are about to take
37:26on the fenundrum.
37:27Three new anagrams to solve.
37:29So head on over to the letterbox for your turn at fenundrum.
37:32Best of luck.
37:33Remember, as soon as you've solved all three anagrams, hit the buzz that have stopped the
37:39clock.
37:39Your time starts now.
37:40Fence.
37:41Fence.
37:42I'll do it.
37:43You can get on to the next one.
37:44Fence.
37:45There we go.
37:46Fence is good.
37:47Ing.
37:47Is it an ing word?
37:49Is it luring?
37:51No.
37:51Is it a...
37:52Grieger.
37:54Put that up there.
37:56Right, come on.
37:57Keep moving.
37:58Ein.
37:59Grin.
38:00Gion.
38:03Grieger.
38:03Is it in er? Let's have a little look. Linger. Linger. Linger. Linger. Linger. You go on to
38:18the next one. Linger. Linger. There we are. Right. Where are we here? We're on the B normally
38:29it'll be somewhere up here. Yeah. Eint. What about Eint? Eint. Febint. No. Right. Okay. Febint.

38:55Not writing on this. Okay. Right. Okay. Eint. Is it Eint? Find Eint? It's just a B. Isn't it a B?
39:02Beginning with B. Oh. I got that one. You're going to be so. What was it? Benefits. Benefits.
39:09Oh no. I was nowhere near. It's dead easy here isn't it? It's dead easy. We had it in
39:14three seconds. Benefits. Benefits. We had a cup of tea and everything. Benefits. Well done.
39:18Yeah. So. Okay. I was nowhere near. Benefits. So you timed out like them. Yeah. It's hard
39:25under pressures. No doubt. Yeah. Please head back to your seats. Well that means going into
39:33the final the scores are as follows. Starting with Carol and Sam. 23 points. Dom and Sally.
39:4024. It's so tight. It's so tight. Dom what do you think? You can take it. Don't
39:49know. I don't know. It's not really about the winning to be honest for me. Okay. It's all
39:55been leading to this and now I'm going to put your powers of recall to the test. It is time
39:59for Memory Bank. In a moment I'll show you a grid of 12 words. Try your best to memorize
40:07those words and their positions before they are covered up by the numbered tiles. I will
40:12then ask questions against the clock. You must buzz in and give me the number concealing the
40:17correct answer. If an answer has more than one word you must give all the corresponding numbers
40:23in the correct order. You'll score a point per word. So if you're already 3-2-1 reveal the memory bank.
40:31Lee. Hamilton. Dallas. Castle. Warwick. Lewis. Springer. Bryce. Jerry. Davis. Enfield.
40:52Howard. I'm about to cover the words with the numbers. Okay. You're going to have 5 seconds

43:23Strong play from Sally. That's your best memory bank I think.
43:26Yeah you were on it.
43:28So let us have a look at the final scores. Something quite interesting has happened here.
43:32Oh.
43:33So Carol and Sam.
