00:00Gun Sportsman-like Power Rankings, brought to you by SoFi.
00:04Get your money right, Freddie C.
00:06We've had a fast and furious start to NBA free agency over the last 48 hours.
00:10Hard to hit all of the moves, but I did America a favor by filtering out
00:16the best of the best, the top five new faces, well, old faces, in new places.
00:22So that's what we got.
00:24Candy Power Rankings this week, top five NBA faces in new places.
00:27Now, we got to keep in mind that I don't have any rookies on this list, all right?
00:32So it's all veteran players when it comes to my Power Rankings this week.
00:37Top five NBA faces in new places.
00:41Pat Costello, if you will.
00:42Number five.
00:44Nikhil Alexander-Walker.
00:46He's with the Atlanta Hawks.
00:47Alexander-Walker gives Atlanta a playmaking wing who can knock down three-pointers
00:51and provide another elite perimeter defender.
00:53This puts Atlanta in position to make a big leap in the East.
00:58He pairs nicely with Dyson Daniels and can give Quinn Snyder more optionality with his lineups.
01:03Another player that can initiate offense.
01:05They can potentially play Trey Young off the ball more,
01:09and that's a good thing for Trey Young in terms of being able to free him up
01:12to do what he does best, which is score the basketball.
01:15Atlanta is trying to corner the market with dominant on-ball defenders
01:19with position versatility, Jalen Johnson, Zachary Rishishay, Dyson Daniels,
01:24all guys 6'8 or above.
01:26And then, of course, the aforementioned Nikhil Alexander-Walker.
01:29All of those guys can defend one through four.
01:32And with the Christoph Porzingis trade, they add another whim protector
01:36to go along with the bigs that they already have.
01:39It sounds a lot like what we saw from OKC
01:42in terms of what Atlanta is building defensively.
01:47Ready, C?
01:48I hear you.
01:50I just worry about the injury issue with Christoph Porzingis
01:53because whatever was ailing him last year
01:56was really debilitating in that series versus the New York Knicks.
02:00But you're right.
02:01They got those long-wing defenders that can cause a lot of problems.
02:05And if Quinn Snyder can put this together as a coach
02:08because Trey Young has no more excuses,
02:10they put that kind of team around him
02:12that should be the kind of team he should be expecting
02:14that could have a deep run in Eastern Conference playoffs next year.
02:17Well, think about it.
02:18They still got Onyeka Okungwu,
02:20and they drafted Asa Newell in the first round this year too.
02:23So they're hedging a little bit with the Christoph Porzingis bit,
02:26but from all reports is that he's going to be healthy.
02:30He's playing Euroball this summer.
02:31So I think you'll get a different version of KP
02:34than what we saw or didn't see in the playoffs in Boston last year.
02:37Next, number four, we have Desmond Bain to the Orlando Magic.
02:45Bain addresses a major need for the Magic who were desperate for shooting.
02:49They finished last in three-point field goal percentage
02:51and last in catch-and-shoot three-point percentage.
02:55Bain is 50-40-90 and a solid defender.
02:58He's one of three NBA players with 800 made three-pointers
03:01on 40% three-point shooting since entering the league in 2020,
03:06and he has shot 43.2% on catch-and-shoot threes in the past five years,
03:11which is the third-best rate among players with at least 1,000 attempts.
03:16Bain, who turns 27 next week,
03:18fits the timetable of Orlando's core of Bankero, Jalen Suggs, and Franz Wagner.
03:24All of those guys are in their early 20s,
03:26and that's better in terms of the fit and age timeline.
03:31It's better than anybody else Orlando could have gone after
03:34to fit that particular need.
03:36This is an organization that sees an opportunity in the East
03:39with all of the injuries to the top teams,
03:40and they're going for it.
03:42Freddie C., your thoughts.
03:43I love what you said about Desmond Bain
03:45because he fits what they did not have,
03:47that shooter that can knock down shots,
03:48and the guy who can also defend at the other end.
03:50If Jalen Suggs can stay healthy, he can be that terrific point guard
03:53that'll be able to get into the teeth of the defense
03:55and find him on the relocation on the three-point line,
03:58but also keep an eye on Jace Richardson.
04:00I love that draft choice they got out of Michigan State
04:03that can be that combo guard as well.
04:04They can go three guards at times,
04:06but Desmond Bain, the way he can do it at both ends of the floor,
04:09yeah, I like that piece the Orlando match
04:11we're able to pick up to make them more of a player
04:13in the Eastern Conference.
04:15Next.
04:16Number three.
04:17Cam Johnson to the Denver Nuggets.
04:20Look out now.
04:20Listen, this is a massive move for the Denver Nuggets front office.
04:23Huge when it comes to roster building.
04:26Michael Porter Jr. was owed $78 million over the next two seasons,
04:30and Johnson is due $44 million in that same time frame.
04:34For $17 million less per season,
04:37Johnson is a similar on-court fit to Michael Porter Jr.
04:40and a much better defender.
04:42The move takes the Nuggets away from the second apron
04:44and now gives them a lot of breathing room
04:46for fleshing out what was a top-heavy roster
04:49over the last two seasons.
04:51Remember, Jokic was critical about the team's depth or lack thereof.
04:56This trade allowed for the subsequent moves
04:58of adding Jonas Valanciunas, Tim Hardaway Jr.,
05:02and bringing back Bruce Brown.
05:03The 2032 first-round pick that's going back to Brooklyn
05:07will likely sting in the post-Jokic era in Denver,
05:09but that's a tomorrow problem.
05:11I love Cam Johnson fitting in as one of the starters for the Denver Nuggets.
05:18His best ability is availability,
05:21which is something you cannot say about Michael Porter Jr.,
05:23either when he was on the court
05:24or being injured off the basketball court.
05:26This looks very similar to the Nuggets team
05:29that won the NBA championship,
05:30where you got guys that can defend.
05:33You got a Christian Brown together with Cameron Johnson.
05:35They're going to play for each other extremely well.
05:37You're right about Valanciunas.
05:38That's an underrated pickup signing by the Nuggets,
05:40but now you got a backup center who's had playoff experience
05:43and can really anchor your front line
05:45when Jokic is on the bench.
05:46But yeah, Cameron Johnson being available,
05:48that's the best ability that they did not see in a lot
05:50in the last couple of years from Michael Porter.
05:52These are the Candy Power Rankings,
05:54top five NBA faces in new places.
05:57Cam, can we get the number two?
05:59Number two.
06:01Miles Turner.
06:02Mm-mm.
06:03The Milwaukee Bucks.
06:04Mm-mm.
06:06Miles Turner is one of the best 3 and D bigs in the NBA.
06:08Turner shot 39.6% from three last season,
06:12totaling 156 makes from deep to go along with 144 blocks.
06:16Wasn't great in the postseason,
06:18only hit 13 of his last 50 from three,
06:20but he basically slots into that role
06:22that Brooke Lopez occupied,
06:24and if we're keeping it a buck,
06:26he's an upgrade over what Lopez has been
06:28over the past couple of seasons.
06:30But this move is all about convincing Giannis
06:32to stay in Milwaukee.
06:34The move makes that a more viable option
06:38to compete now and into the future.
06:41They brought back Torian Prince,
06:43Bobby Porters, Kevin Porter Jr.,
06:45and Gary Trent Jr.
06:46not hard to imagine this team being top six in the East
06:50and going on a deep playoff run.
06:52And you weaken a rival in the Indiana Pacers
06:55by taking away their guy,
06:57because now, how's Indiana going to play?
07:00Not just without Tyrese Halliburton,
07:02but also a Miles Turner,
07:03who was the longest tenured player
07:05with the Indiana Pacers.
07:07Guys like that,
07:07even though he may not be Kareem Abdul-Jabbar,
07:09but he was the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the Pacers,
07:11that's going to be very hard to replace
07:12in the way that they play,
07:13the way they want to get up and down the court.
07:15So, yeah, it's a great move for Milwaukee,
07:16but it's an awful move for the Indiana Pacers
07:18losing him for that kind of scratch
07:20that he's going to get paid
07:21by the Milwaukee Bucks over four years.
07:23Well, here's the thing.
07:24If you're in the Pacers,
07:24do you want to go into luxury tax
07:26for the first time in the last 20 years
07:27with a team that can't win
07:28because of the Halliburton injury?
07:29Yeah, that's fair.
07:30Answer is probably not.
07:31Nope.
07:32Which makes it make sense
07:33to let the door open for Miles Turner to walk.
07:36I think it's a good move for both sides, oddly enough.
07:39Good people on both sides
07:40when it comes to the Miles Turner
07:42to the Milwaukee Bucks transaction.
07:46Next.
07:47Number one.
07:48Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets.
07:51Absolutely.
07:52Houston, we have liftoff.
07:54Durant is exactly what Houston needs.
07:56The Rockets rank 24th in effective field goal percentage
07:58and 27th in points per direct isolation.
08:02Put simply, they needed shooting
08:03and they needed a closer.
08:05And they added a two-time champion
08:07that is the best bucket getter
08:08over the last two decades in the NBA.
08:10According to ESPN Bet,
08:12Houston has the second-shortest odds
08:13behind OKC to win the title.
08:15The Rockets now check every box for a team
08:18that has a chance to win it all.
08:20Great coach, outstanding depth,
08:21top-end talent,
08:22and championship experience in that locker room.
08:25So there it is.
08:26The Kennedy Power Rankings.
08:28Top five NBA faces in new places
08:30off of free agency the first two days.
08:33We got number one, Kevin Durant
08:34to the Houston Rockets.
08:35Number two, Miles Turner
08:36to the Milwaukee Bucks.
08:37Number three, Cam Johnson
08:38to the Denver Nuggets.
08:39Number four, Desmond Bain
08:40to the Orlando Magic.
08:42Number five, Nikhil Alexander-Walker
08:44to the Atlanta Hawks.
08:46Freddie C, typically,
08:48Wiggy Smalls, a.k.a. Michelle Smallman,
08:50is my accountability partner,
08:52but she's not here.
08:53So I gotta give that responsibility to you.
08:56Yep.
08:57When it comes to my power rankings,
08:58top five NBA faces in new places.
09:00Right.
09:01Any objections, any omissions?
09:03The only one I would have,
09:04I would have flipped around
09:05Cam Johnson to the Nuggets.
09:06I might have put that at number two
09:08and move Miles Turner of the Bucks
09:09down to number three.
09:10Here's why.
09:11Because I think Cam Johnson
09:12makes the Nuggets more of a threat
09:13in the Western Conference
09:14to compete more than Miles Turner
09:16with the Milwaukee Bucks.
09:18The Bucks still have a lot of holes
09:19that they have to fill.
09:21And Miles Turner can only fill
09:22a couple of those.
09:24But you have a Cam Johnson.
09:25This Nuggets team looks eerily similar
09:27to the team that we saw
09:29that won the NBA Championship
09:30versus Miami.
09:31And to bring some memory
09:32to everybody's memory,
09:33they did take the Oklahoma City Thunder
09:35to a seven-game series
09:36when you think about
09:37what kind of a weakened squad
09:39that pushed them to the limit.
09:41This squad's a lot better
09:42and a lot more fortified CC
09:44to have a deep run
09:45in what's going to be
09:46another load of Western Conference.
09:48So that's the only disagreement.
09:50I might have flipped number two
09:51and number three,
09:51but the rest of your list,
09:53top shelf, my friend.
09:54Top shelf.
09:54The only reason that I had
09:56Miles Turner over Cam Johnson
09:59is because the presence
10:01of Miles Turner gives the Bucs
10:03a better chance
10:04of keeping Giannis.
10:05Okay.
10:06All right.
10:06So that's the only reason why.
10:07That's completely fair.
10:08You know what I mean?
10:08Nikola Jokic ain't leaving
10:10the Denver Nuggets.
10:10He ain't going nowhere.
10:11I mean, don't let the owner
10:14talk about it.
10:15He's entertaining the thoughts.
10:17Let's not go there,
10:18but I'm just saying.
10:19Yeah.
10:20He was SOS stuck on stupid
10:21by saying something like that.
10:22I don't know what that was about.
10:23That was wild.
10:24That was wild.
10:24That's what happens
10:25when you have a guy
10:26in front of the grill
10:27of the cookout
10:27and too much smoke
10:28gets in his nose.
10:29And all of a sudden
10:30the brainpower goes
10:31completely opposite way
10:32about, yo,
10:33if the second apron happens,
10:34we might have to think
10:35about trade number 15.
10:37Stay out talking idiotic
10:39stuff like that.
10:40If you're an owner
10:41of an NBA franchise
10:42about traded Nikola Jokic,
10:44he is Chris Canty
10:45and Freddie Coleman
10:45together on a sportsman
10:46like at ESPN radio
10:47and the ESPN app
10:49as well as ESPN news.
10:50And my man,
10:50Chris Canty wonders
10:51if the Oklahoma City Thunder
10:53will be the Boston Celtics
10:54next season
10:55in terms of avoiding
10:57not repeating.
10:58I will tell CC
10:59why that will not
11:01be an issue.
11:02Keep it here.
11:03This is on Sportsmanlike.
11:04The next chapter in this.
11:06I'll be back.
11:07I'll be back.
11:07I'll be back.
11:08I'll be back.

Recommandations
