🔥 On NBA Today, analysts unpack three major headlines:
Jalen Williams has officially signed a 5-year rookie max extension worth up to $287 million with the Oklahoma City Thunder, keeping their championship Big‑3 (with SGA and Chet Holmgren) together at over $822 million total
Speculation rises over Giannis Antetokounmpo possibly heading to the Warriors, fueled by mock four‑team trades and ongoing leverage; Golden State, Lakers, and others remain in pursuit .

00:00We are live from Las Vegas for NBA Summer League.
00:04All 30 teams will be here competing at the Thomas & Mack Center.
00:07A look at this rookie class.
00:09The first game tips off in just about 30 minutes.
00:11And NBA Today is here to get things started.
00:15Here's a look at Cooper Flagg.
00:16Just a few hours away from his debut warming up on the court here in Vegas a little earlier this morning.
00:22We will have his game for you right here on ESPN.
00:26As we say hello to Vegas basketball in July, Bobby Marks, what number Summer League is this for you?
00:32Number 29.
00:33Number 29 for Mr. Marks, our elder Summer League statesman over here, Udonis Haslam, who has played in these games.
00:41Our senior insider, Sean.
00:4212 for me.
00:4312 for you, 9 for me.
00:4522.
00:4622 for you, D.
00:48We're going to get a look at Jeremiah Fears at Derrick Queen as well as Sharon Tannins Jr., Rob Dillingham.
00:53That game tips off behind us in just about 30 minutes between the New Orleans Pelicans and the Minnesota Timberwolves here.
00:59But, of course, this crowd that's already actually pretty impressive is going to be a whole lot bigger when Cooper Flagg suits up at 5 o'clock local time tonight for the Dallas Mavericks when they're in action here.
01:09If you wanted to get a ticket, Udonis, for that game, I hope you already did because they are pricey.
01:15If you want to get into the building, it'll cost you an average of $205 for today's session that's just outside the top five for a single day at Vegas Summer League here.
01:26I'm hearing great things, by the way, gentlemen, coming out of the Dallas Mavericks camp.
01:29Bobby, I don't know what you've heard about Cooper and his post-draft process here.
01:33They've been really impressed, especially with his outside shooting.
01:35Well, that's the big thing.
01:37I think defensively we know what he can do as far as impact the game here.
01:42and it's the unknown as far as the ability to kind of stretch the floor because a lot of what happened at Duke this year is kind of like a European team
01:49where everyone had to sacrifice and maybe some of the things that were not showcased this year.
01:54And I know talking with people from the Mavericks, they are through the moon as far as what we could potentially see in Cooper Flagg.
02:00Through the moon, to the roof, to the moon.
02:03Does that even make sense?
02:04I'm not sure it does, but when Cooper is coming to Cooper Flagg, it doesn't have to make sense.
02:07That's the level of talent that we're talking about here, Udonis.
02:10Expectations when you're talking about Summer League, it's a little bit tricky, right?
02:14Because we see excellent players not necessarily have an amazing first showing.
02:18What are you hoping to see from Cooper Flagg in this first viewing?
02:22Well, the expectations are a little bit different for different people in different situations.
02:26My expectations for Summer League, I had to open eyes.
02:28I had to come in.
02:29I had to get numbers.
02:30I had to turn heads.
02:31When I look at a situation like Cooper Flagg, I look at what he's able to do on the basketball court,
02:35and I say, you don't want to look at his numbers.
02:37You don't want to, per se, look at the stat sheet at the end of the night.
02:39You want to look at how comfortable he is.
02:41You want to put him in different situations.
02:43You want to maximize his minutes when he's on the court.
02:45You want to make sure he's comfortable.
02:46You want to see what he's not comfortable doing.
02:48You want to get in that frame room.
02:49You want to work on those weaknesses.
02:50So, for me, this is like a trial for Cooper Flagg to see what he maximizes and what his strengths are.
02:55I'm always interested in seeing exactly, like, the big moment.
02:58I remember seeing Zion Williamson a few years ago, and he just, like, would snatch the ball away from players.
03:03Like, I think it was Kevin Knox.
03:04He just snatched it right out of his hand.
03:06Like, I think Cooper Flagg is capable of making those, like, eyeball plays where it just blows you away.
03:12Yeah, it certainly can be eye-popping when you watch Cooper Flagg.
03:15Something that certainly made me do a double take.
03:17Can I tell you all a quick story?
03:18We land yesterday at the airport here in Las Vegas, right?
03:22And I'm going over to carousel number 16 to gather my bags and get set for this trip here.
03:28And I look across the way, and there is the entire Dallas Mavericks team who flew commercial here, including Cooper Flagg,
03:37waiting like the rest of us to grab his bag off of the carousel with his teammates.
03:42He did get a first-class seat on the flight.
03:44But, again, usually we're not used to seeing these guys in that sort of environment.
03:47And for Cooper, he kind of has just taken this I'm-every-man approach.
03:52But when he's on the floor, it's out of this world in a lot of ways.
03:55And I'm curious if we're going to see him playing point guard at all tonight here, Bobby.
03:59That's what I've circled.
04:00That's what I'm most interested to see.
04:02Because we saw Jason Kidd, when Cooper was introduced in his press conference, come out and say,
04:07we're going to throw him into the fire here in this Lakers game,
04:10and we're going to have him play a little bit of point guard.
04:12And I think that's going to be important because Summer League is all about experimenting
04:16as far as putting in guys in uncomfortable positions,
04:19especially for a Mavericks team that will not have Kyrie Irving to start the season.
04:23They recently signed D'Angelo Russell.
04:25I'm intrigued to see Cooper flag with the ball in this game later today.
04:28Certainly it's the lottery picks that all of us have our eyes on.
04:32But also this is a time for guys who maybe were undrafted,
04:35who aren't necessarily on a roster spot yet,
04:37to prove themselves to general managers around the league.
04:39That's kind of one of my favorite parts about this.
04:41It's the first action and the biggest action for a lot of these guys in their career.
04:44Guys land contracts from what we see in these games.
04:48Who are you telling me?
04:50UDB and probably one of the major ones that's had a championship-level impact.
04:54But this is a great place when you see players stand out
04:56and players get two ways off these deals, partial guarantees,
04:59and they end up being players that make factors come regular season.
05:02But Malika, honestly, what I look at, you have – it's a melting pot,
05:07what's going on in Vegas right now.
05:08You have agents.
05:09You have team execs.
05:10So you have team owners all on site here.
05:13We see on camera some of them meet on camera.
05:16But there's so many behind-the-scenes meetings that take place.
05:19The NBA's moratorium is over.
05:20So guys are now officially able to sign.
05:22They're able to meet with teams.
05:24And I think a lot of that happens in back hallways of hotels
05:27and back rooms, restaurants, and things like that.
05:31So that's what I have also got my eye on as well.
05:35And there still could be a lot of movement in the league right now.
05:37This is when I start singing Hamilton, right?
05:39We're in the room where it happens when we're here in Las Vegas.
05:42Well, to be a good company, man, this is Disneyland in the NBA version.
05:46Right.
05:46If you want to come to Disneyland for the NBA, come to Las Vegas for the next 10 days.
05:51It's 29 years in a row like Mr. Marks has over here.
05:53But it doesn't mean that news around the association has stopped here.
05:57In fact, just before we came on air, Shams, you had some breaking news out of Oklahoma City.
06:01What more can you tell us about Jalen Williams?
06:03Malika, all NBA, Oklahoma City Thunder star Jalen Williams has agreed to a five-year maximum rookie contract extension
06:11worth up to $287 million.
06:13His agents, Bill Duffy and Justin Haynes at WME Basketball told me.
06:17So that means Shea Gills-Alexander, Chet Holmgren, J-Dub all under contract together
06:22through the rest of the decade as they enter the primes of their career.
06:26They're not even technically in their prime.
06:28Shea Gills-Alexander, 26.
06:30You have J-Dub being 24, Chet Holmgren, 23, all maxed out, all under contract through
06:37the rest of the decade, up to $287 million for J-Dub.
06:42But in total here, $822 million in projected extensions for these three players.
06:49This is their core three guys moving forward.
06:52Yeah.
06:52This is about to be their third straight season as a non-tax-paying team.
06:57Yep.
06:58But clearly, the bills are going to keep getting higher.
07:00They're going to be entering the first and second apron starting in a couple seasons now.
07:03Right.
07:04But this is their core three.
07:05These are the players that are committed.
07:07That word commitment is big in Oklahoma City.
07:09These three players being committed to being there for the long haul.
07:11I don't know if I've seen $822 million of anything.
07:14I don't know if I've seen a blade of grass, pennies.
07:15That is a whole lot of money right there.
07:18It's not going to kick in immediately, but you're talking about having three max players
07:21in the era of the dreaded second apron.
07:23How does this work, Bobby?
07:24Because you told me not to be afraid.
07:26Everything you've told me is numbers like this, is what teams are trying to avoid.
07:29I think the biggest thing is that there's three players 26 years or older, or younger.
07:34There are not three that are in their mid-30s here.
07:36I think when you look at Oklahoma City, certainly there's the off the court.
07:40They're getting a new arena in 2028.
07:42We have a new television deal here, potentially expansion in a few years.
07:46So the revenue stream is going to be coming in.
07:48And then you look at the resources they have.
07:51The potential of four first-round picks next year to maybe offset some of these contracts.
07:55Sam Presley's done a terrific job staggering money here.
07:58Listen, two years from now, we might see a little bit of a different iteration of this
08:01roster.
08:02But like we saw with the 90s Bulls, Jordan and Pippen were there during those six championships.
08:08And I think we're going to see that with these three players here for the foreseeable future.
08:11Yeah, and I think they have a culture.
08:12So you understand that those three guys are going to be there, and you continue to build
08:16around those guys in the future.
08:17But the thing is, when you walk in that locker room, you understand you've got to be four
08:20feet in.
08:20You can't be halfway in.
08:21You can't be halfway out.
08:22You've got to be four feet in.
08:23This is these guys' team.
08:25They have created that cornerstone.
08:26They have created that OKC.
08:28So when you walk in that locker room, nothing changes.
08:30So even though the pieces around them are probably going to change in the future, I think they have
08:34a culture.
08:34I think they have things built, and they have things in the right place for them.
08:36One of the things that was so impressive, Shams, about this team is that it's so clear that
08:40every guy on this roster, even though they are young, knows exactly what their role is,
08:45what their space is in this pecking order, if you will.
08:48It's a special team.
08:49And this core, particularly with Shagos Alexander, Chet Holmgren, and Jalen Williams, they're so
08:54connected.
08:55They all celebrate each other's success.
08:58Jalen Williams, Chet Holmgren, they both have the same agent, Bill Duffy.
09:00So Sam Presti and that Thunder organization working with Bill Duffy over the last week
09:05or so, reaching agreement on two separate extensions.
09:08Yesterday, Chet Holmgren up to $250 million, and now today, Jalen Williams up to $287 million.
09:13So those negotiations were about as smooth, I think, as you could probably have under
09:18the circumstances.
09:19This is big business that went on after becoming the second youngest team ever to win
09:23a championship.
09:24When you have results like that, this is what comes with it.
09:27These three guys have done something that you think about over a decade.
09:30A decade ago, Kevin Durant, James Harden, Russell Westbrook, that whole core, they got close.
09:36They couldn't push through.
09:37This group did push through.
09:39And what you're going to see now is these guys stay together, and they have dozens of
09:43first-round picks.
09:44Bobby has all that.
09:4514.
09:46I don't have to speak to it.
09:47They've got all those firsts.
09:48They have, and think about the guys like Aaron Wiggins.
09:51Think about guys like Isaiah Joe.
09:53Jalen Williams, the other Jalen Williams on their bench.
09:55Yeah, J-WO.
09:55Those are the types of guys where, as you see the roster potentially shift in two, three
10:00years, not those three, but other guys, you see other players stepping in on contracts
10:05that you already have under team control.
10:07I'm just hoping as they celebrate with each other here, they've learned from their run
10:11to the championship, and now they can pop bottles just a little bit easier because
10:14we saw them struggle just a little bit after they won the title.
10:18So the Oklahoma City Thunder, their core is set.
10:20The Milwaukee Bucks, though, they still have questions as the summer progresses here because
10:25another big question still, what is happening with Giannis Antetokounmpo?
10:30He's been in his home country of Greece.
10:31He's living his best life as he always does.
10:34And fellas, he's been active on social media as well.
10:37He joined the popular streamer Show Speed, and he had this to say about whether or not he
10:42will stay in Milwaukee long term.
10:44Take a listen here.
10:45LA, the tax is bad.
10:48New York, the tax is bad.
10:50Yeah.
10:51Hell no.
10:51A lot of people have tried to convince me, tried to convince me to go and play there and
10:57stuff.
10:57Oh, no.
10:58No.
10:59So you're saying in Milwaukee?
11:02Probably.
11:03Probably.
11:04We'll see.
11:07See.
11:10Probably a lot of Milwaukee.
11:11So Giannis says probably, probably we'll see him back.
11:17But sometimes I say, yeah, well, what are you going to eat for dinner?
11:19I say probably a salad.
11:20And then I give myself an out for the burger.
11:21How do you read this here, Udonis?
11:23I'm happy.
11:24I'm happy he's finally come out and said it.
11:26And even though it's a probably, we're going to take the probably out, he's going back to
11:28Milwaukee.
11:29And it's not a failure.
11:30I think you said this when we were on set.
11:31It's not a failure to go back to Milwaukee.
11:33You've had success there.
11:34You've had the championship.
11:35You've had individual success.
11:37You've had team success.
11:38This organization has tried to do everything possible to give Giannis the opportunity to
11:42be in the best position.
11:44It just has not happened.
11:45So for him to say, I'm going to sit and look, and for there to not be too many options out
11:49there to change and put them in a championship situation, something had to happen.
11:53You're comfortable in Milwaukee, Giannis.
11:54You don't owe anybody an explanation for that.
11:56Go be comfortable and enjoy the rest of your basketball career.
11:58You work hard and you earned it.
12:00I wish I had a degree in body reading body language.
12:03I don't.
12:04But I just look at what Milwaukee was able to do this offseason.
12:06They've gone full steam ahead of building this roster around Giannis.
12:10You don't go out and wave Damian Lillard and take a $23 million cap hit or go sign Miles
12:14Turner and bring back some of the players, Bobby Portis and Gary Trend and sign Gary Harris
12:20here to think that they're going to potentially lose Giannis here.
12:23You go full steam ahead to try to build a roster around him.
12:27And if we get to the point he goes into the front office and says, I want out, we'll address
12:31that later.
12:31But I'm looking at it that Giannis is going to be on this roster when the season starts.
12:34Giannis, we'll see.
12:38We'll see him in Milwaukee.
12:40We'll see you in Milwaukee, Giannis.
12:42We still have a couple of months, a couple of weeks for Giannis to marinate on this, of
12:47course, before the beginning.
12:48It'll be more time than that.
12:49It'll be more time than that.
12:50It wasn't the draft, clearly.
12:52Yep.
12:52It wasn't free agency.
12:53It's not going to be summer league.
12:54The next two months is when Giannis Antetokounmpo, his inner circle, they're going to have to
13:00have some real conversations.
13:02Until then, continue on the jet skis because that looks like a whole lot of fun still to
13:06come here on NBA Today.
13:08Reed Shepard is going to be joining us live to talk all things Houston Rockets ahead of
13:13taking the floor in his second summer league here.
13:16And we are just about 15 minutes away from the Timberwolves and the Pelicans here.
13:22Remember, Derek Queen, the Pelicans made a move to jump up in the draft to be able to
13:26grab him, Bobby.
13:27Oh, they sure did.
13:28And it cost them potentially a top pick next year's draft.
13:31And we'll wait and see what happens.
13:33But I love Derek Queen, everything about him there.
13:35We're going to get to see him in action coming up at the bottom of the hour.
13:37It has been a busy summer for Houston.
13:41Of course, KD is the headline.
13:42But this is a group that has a lot of depth as well, especially in the frontcourt.
13:46Here's a look at the Rockets' potential rotation here.
13:49Second-year guard Reed Shepard poised to play a key role off of the bench, especially with
13:54Jalen Green, Delta Phoenix, in the trade that brought Durant to Houston.
13:58And joining us now at Summer League, it's last year's number three overall pick.
14:01Reed Shepard.
14:02Reed, thank you so much for spending a little time with us today.
14:04Thank you guys for having me on.
14:05We really appreciate it.
14:06I'm always excited.
14:07We were talking in the break when a player, especially a top pick, decides to come back
14:11and play a second year at Summer League, no matter how big or how small their role was
14:15in the regular season and playoffs for their team the year before.
14:18What made you want to come back and play again and work on that skill set?
14:22Yeah, I think the biggest thing is just I love basketball.
14:24Yeah.
14:24You know, being able to come back and play is just a lot of fun.
14:28You get a workout all summer, be in the gym, doing that.
14:31But being able to come out here and play against different players and just get up and down
14:34the court is always fun.
14:35We mentioned Kevin Durant.
14:37We were all watching the highlights together leading into this segment.
14:41What did you think when you heard he was going to be your teammate?
14:44How do you think you could compliment him?
14:46Yeah, I mean, obviously when I saw it, it was really cool for me.
14:50And I grew up watching him my whole life.
14:52So it's kind of crazy now that I'm going to be playing with him.
14:55You know, he's just a tremendous, great score, really can do anything.
15:00He's a great winner.
15:01So it's going to be really fun.
15:03I'm really excited to play with him.
15:04But Choms, in bringing Kevin to the Rockets, there were certain players that Houston said,
15:09no, no, they cannot be a part of this deal.
15:11Yeah.
15:12So, Reeve, now that we have you here, I'd love to get your take.
15:14So, obviously, you were top pick last year.
15:17Your role ebbs and flowed.
15:19You had injury as well.
15:20But you're on a top two seed finding your place.
15:23Now you're going to enter this year in a bigger role.
15:25But this offseason, teams inquire with the Rockets, ask about you.
15:29The Suns, I was told, asked about you.
15:32You were made untouchable in those conversations.
15:34So what do you feel when you hear that?
15:37What kind of motivation does it give you?
15:39How do you feel just about where you stand right now?
15:41Yeah, I think it's really cool.
15:43You know, for me, this is my first year dealing with all the offseason, the trades.
15:48So it's kind of crazy seeing all of it go down.
15:51But like you said, hearing some of that stuff is pretty cool.
15:53It gives me a lot of confidence just going into the gym,
15:57continue to work on everything I've been working on this summer,
15:59just getting better and just really looking forward to the season
16:02and trying to help as much as I can.
16:04Is that something like the GM tells you, like, hey, listen,
16:06a team called about you, but we're not trading you.
16:09Like, you're good.
16:10You're untouchable.
16:10Like, did you hear that verbatim?
16:12No, not really.
16:14All right, so I'm telling you.
16:15Go now.
16:16You get to break that news.
16:17That's why he's smiling.
16:17See, this is, I mean, I want that moniker, right?
16:20You are untouchable as a player.
16:22You are one of the best shooters that we've seen.
16:24You were incredible last year.
16:25It was so much fun to watch you.
16:27Now, Kevin Durant's on your team.
16:28Are you still the best shooter here on the Houston Rockets?
16:31I don't know.
16:32I got to prove it a little bit first.
16:35He's proved it for a while.
16:36So it'll be fun to have some shooting competitions with him, though.
16:38Well, Reed, I want to give you your flowers because I'm a huge fan.
16:41I know about your 49 points in 37 minutes in the G League.
16:45I cook it with no grease out there.
16:46But as great of a scorer as you are, I look at that roster.
16:49I look at Kevin Durant.
16:50I look at Jabari Smith.
16:52I look at Sangroon.
16:52I look at other guys that can put the basketball in the hole.
16:55You do not want to be a guy in this league that if he's not making shots,
16:58we have to take him out the game.
16:59What are you looking to add to that team?
17:01If it's a night where it's not your night, it's Kevin's night, it's Van Fleet's night,
17:04it's this guy's night, what are you looking to add to make sure,
17:06hey, I'm still in the rotation.
17:08I'm still going to help us win this basketball game,
17:09and I'm going to prove that to the coaching staff.
17:10Yeah, for sure.
17:11I think the biggest thing this summer was getting in the weight room
17:13and defensively just working on defense.
17:16Like, we had probably a two- to three-week stretch.
17:19That was just my workouts were straight defense.
17:21I love that.
17:21I wasn't touching the basketball the first 40 minutes.
17:23It wasn't very fun.
17:24But, you know, some things, we got it done.
17:27So, like, just working on that stuff, you know,
17:29still getting up shots and ball handling and all that,
17:32but really just working on being stronger and getting more physical.
17:35By the way, that footage we were just showing was from him cooking in the G League
17:38in that game, Udonis.
17:39Listen, and I love that you're working on your defense
17:41because I'm going to tell you a secret in this league.
17:43We pick on white shooters.
17:45No, we do.
17:45We hunt you guys.
17:46We hunt you guys.
17:47You know this.
17:48We will hunt white shooters in the league,
17:49and we'll pick on you defensively.
17:51So I love that you're working on defense or something.
17:53I never heard about that.
17:54You didn't know that?
17:5540 minutes.
17:55No, no, no.
17:5540 minutes of just straight defense and workouts.
17:58I knew about that part.
18:00That sounds like Amy and Dokuno.
18:01I'm not surprised with Amy.
18:02That's tough.
18:03Can we hit you with some quick hitters before we let you go here, Reed?
18:06We know you've got some stuff to prepare for here.
18:08All right.
18:08I'm wondering, since we're here in Las Vegas, nightclub, pool party.
18:13What's the vibe?
18:15Pool party.
18:15Pool party.
18:16You've got to have a pool here.
18:17Especially here.
18:17It's 110 degrees here in Las Vegas.
18:19If you needed a game winner, if you needed a walk-off shot,
18:23both of your parents played college ball.
18:25You're handing the rock to mom or you're handing the rock to dad?
18:27I'm giving it to mom.
18:28There you go.
18:29Good ass.
18:29Good ass.
18:30Respect.
18:30I'm a mama's boy, too.
18:31Shout out.
18:32Shout out all the moms.
18:33Reed, we really, really appreciate the time.
18:35Thank you so much for stopping by NBA today.
18:37We wanted to, Reed has seen so many highlights from Summer League, but now that it's here,
18:42we thought we'd take a look back at some of the best plays of Summer League all time and
18:46see what could be added to the collection here.
18:48First, in 2007, this is Rudy Gay going baseline for the poster on the defender.
18:54Watch this, Donis.
18:56It's grainy, but it's good.
18:57Rudy Gay.
18:58That's Wayne Gigi.
19:03He used to play with us for a while.
19:05Damn, my bad, Wayne.
19:07And then we go to 2010 here.
19:09JaVale McGee.
19:11Young JaVale.
19:12That was nice.
19:13That was nice.
19:15And then this is 2019 here.
19:17Jackson Hayes with some hang time.
19:20I think I saw that live, actually.
19:21Yeah, you don't take charges in Summer League.
19:24Next, in 2012 here, Damian Lillard.
19:27We certainly hope he gets better soon.
19:29We should have known at this point, Dame time was here.
19:32It was before he could afford the roley, though.
19:34It was before he could afford the roley.
19:36Nothing wrong with a little starter watch, right?
19:38We go to 2016 here.
19:40D-Lo's had some clutch shots, too, over his career.
19:42This is a little foreshadowing.
19:43D-Lo, 2016 Summer League was like the first enormous Summer League.
19:48Ice in his veins.
19:492017, Jason Tatum.
19:51Shooting the game-winning jumper.
19:53And then he did the Kobe.
19:54Would you hit the Kobe in Summer League?
19:57Did I do it?
19:58No, I didn't.
19:58Would you do it at the celebration if you hit a big shot like that?
20:00I'm not a celebrity.
20:01All right, let's go to 2012 here.
20:04Ooh, ooh, ooh.
20:06Ooh, bag work.
20:08That's like the...
20:09Yeah, Jeremy.
20:10That's tough.
20:11That's nice.
20:12That's tough.
20:12That's like a street ball move right there.
20:142010, J.R. Smith.
20:17Ooh.
20:18Ooh, showing his hand.
20:20Ooh.
20:20Tough layup there.
20:22Put him in a blender.
20:232024.
20:25Man, man.
20:26Oh, this was nice, too.
20:27I saw this one.
20:28Yes, sir.
20:29I remember that one.
20:30That was insane.
20:34When the announcers are reacting like that...
20:37That's when you know.
20:38That's when you know that you really got it.
20:40Reed, what are you...
20:42Just your mindset before we let you go officially heading into these Summer League games.
20:45You're about to suit up.
20:46You're coming up.
20:47Yeah, I think just coming out and playing with a lot of confidence.
20:50Yep.
20:50Having fun.
20:51You know, this is so much fun being able to play in this environment.
20:54So just coming out, having fun, just enjoying every minute of it.
20:57I think if you were to have a dunk like that or a game winner, Udonis, I mean, it might be doing laps around the building, running around.
21:04Oh, for sure.
21:05I mean, look at this building.
21:07I mean, when I was playing Summer League, it was just maybe your mom or your daddy and your agent.
21:10Now you look at this crowd that's in here right now and the energy.
21:13Of course, I'm definitely running around.
21:14It's certainly grown, and it's been so much fun to see.
21:16Reed, thank you again.
21:17We appreciate the time and sticking with us as we watched a couple of those highlights.
21:20We're actually about to head over to ESPN because just in a couple of minutes over on ESPN2, we have the Timberwolves and the Pelicans over on ESPN.
21:30We're counting down to Cooper Flagg's debut as well, the number one pick from the 2025 NBA draft.
21:36We also have a live report on Dallas's play.
21:38Yep, we're used to it.
21:39Temperature is at about 110 all week, but that doesn't matter because come inside the basketball is going to be super chill.
21:45Remember that guy, Victor Wemenyama, a couple of years ago to his right, Cooper Flagg, will be the big number one pick coming in this year
21:52as the fans are making their way inside Thomas and Mack to see among the players, Jeremiah Fears,
21:59the outstanding number seven pick for the New Orleans Pelicans, and two lottery picks.
22:04They traded up ten spots to get this gentleman, Derek Queen, Derek Queen, rather, of New Orleans.
22:11Here's a look at our schedule.
22:12First two games on ESPN2, then we're over to ESPN starting at 8 Eastern.
22:16Talked about Cooper Flagg, he and the Mavs take on the Lakers before the Spurs and the 76ers.
22:22We welcome everybody to Summer League 2025.
22:26Mark Kestesher and Seth Greenberg to get you underway here this afternoon for the first two games.
22:30Dave McBeniman will be with us in just a bit.
22:32Always love Summer League.
22:34We just had the draft recently.
22:36Get to see some of those guys on display as well as some second and third year guys and guys that are trying to find jobs, Seth.
22:41And that's the big thing.
22:42You've got first-round draft choices, you've got guys trying to get G League contracts,
22:45and also guys being evaluated overseas.
22:48The most important thing for all of those players, show what you can do and not what you can't do.
22:52Play to your strengths.
22:53Be a winning player.
22:55Control your controllables.
22:56Play hard.
22:57Be a great teammate.
22:58But most importantly, play to your strengths.
23:01And we're looking forward to seeing these teams.
23:02Let's start with the Pelicans and Jeremiah Fears, who went number seven out of Oklahoma.
23:05He is a dynamic point guard.
23:07Reminds me of Kyrie Irving.
23:09His ability to change speeds, change directions, get in the lane, finish with either hand.
23:14He can play start.
23:15He can play late.
23:16But most importantly, a year ago today, he was playing an EYBL in Augusta, Georgia.
23:22Today, he's walking on here at Thomas and Mac in his first NBA opportunity.
23:27Well, so is Derek Queen, whom the Pelicans went ten spots up to grab.
23:31And the number 13 pick spoke a moment ago with our Dave McManaman.
23:36Here with Derek Queen before your summer league debut.
23:39I know you're a Baltimore guy, not a D.C. guy, not a DMV guy.
23:44What does that mean in how you approach the game?
23:47I mean, it's definitely different.
23:50Everybody from Baltimore say that it's like its own little state or like our own little place.
23:56But, like, we bring a lot of toughness, a lot of grit and stuff.
23:58And I'm going to bring it out here tonight.
24:00I was talking to Troy Weaver before the game.
24:03He's known you a long time.
24:04And he said the way you play with joy and your personality kind of reminds him of Carmelo Anthony.
24:10Are there any bits of Carmelo Anthony's game that we can see in yours?
24:14Probably footwork and how to score.
24:18And, I mean, I feel like he was a good rebounder.
24:20I'm a good rebounder.
24:21So a little bit of pieces.
24:23Yeah, go out and have some fun tonight.
24:25Thank you.
24:25Nice to meet you.
24:26All right, let's swing it over to the Minnesota Timberwolves now, Seth.
24:30And we've got a couple of guys.
24:32They're not rookies.
24:33They did this last year.
24:34But Terrence Shannon Jr. and Rob Dillingham looking to crack the rotation.
24:38They've got an opportunity.
24:39They've got to seize this opportunity.
24:41It is important for both of these players.
24:42Terrence Shannon, a world-class athlete.
24:44Physical tough.
24:45Can rebound the basketball.
24:46Can defend it.
24:47Really score it.
24:48All right.
24:48But he's got to be a lockdown defender.
24:51And he's got to also be more efficient offensively.
24:54And then for Rob Dillingham.
24:55Dynamic on the ball.
24:56But can he settle into running an offense?
24:59Making good decisions.
