00:00Devin Booker just got the biggest annual extension in NBA history.
00:05Arsham Sharani reporting that it's two years and $145 million to stay with the Suns.
00:09His contract now in total five years, $316 million, and it keeps him in Phoenix through 2030.
00:16Booker has spent all 10 seasons of his NBA career with the Suns.
00:20He is now projected to make $72.7 million per year over the two-year extension.
00:26That average annual value is now the highest for an extension in NBA history,
00:31passing SGA, who signed his extension last week.
00:36Booker, of course, has meant a lot to the Suns franchise since being drafted there in 2015.
00:39He has averaged at least 25 points in each of the last seven seasons.
00:44Giannis is the only other player to do that over that time period.
00:49And how could we forget his all-time performance against the Celtics in 2017
00:55on the parquet?
00:57Booker dropped 70 points that night, the most in Suns franchise history.
01:01He's also the franchise's all-time leading scorer.
01:04You can hate him all you want.
01:06My man moves needles.
01:07This cold-ass white boy and Cooper flag never disappoints.
01:12Players fall in love with being famous more than winning in L.A.
01:17Dale Demps, I don't have a lot of people that I hate.
01:20I despise him, and I wish the worst for him in the basketball space.
01:28Here we are.

02:06I'm so stress-free.
02:08Blue water, you know what I mean?
02:11It's cheap.
02:12You get you some pesos, you can ball till you fall.
02:15You know what I mean?
02:16I got a chance to go to the ocean and jump in the water.
02:21It was, you know what I'm saying?
02:22It's been beautiful.
02:23It's been beautiful.
02:24I rode some jet skis.
02:25I'm living my best life out here.
02:27I'm living my best life.
02:30I'm living my best life.
02:31I need some videos of you on a jet ski.
02:34Oh, yeah.
02:35We got it.
02:36Please.
02:36We need those.
02:37We need those.
02:38Snorkeling and all.
02:40You know what I mean?
02:42Usually, I'm the first person off the boat, but I haven't been in a minute, so I let the
02:48guys who was on the boat go first so I could know my safety was there.
02:53You know what I mean?
02:53Yeah.
02:54Making sure no sharks was in the water.
02:57Somebody go get their ass ate up first.
02:59It's going to be there.
03:00Perk, you can swim like that, bro?
03:02You can swim like that?
03:03Like a whale.
03:05Like a whale.
03:06Shamu.
03:08Shamu.
03:09That boy buoyancy shit.
03:10You can't hit my joke before I say them.
03:16Oh, my God.
03:17I love it.
03:18Happy birthday, obviously, to your wife because we've been seeing awesome videos and photos
03:22and it looks like a blast.
03:24And you, my friend, deserve it.
03:25With that said, you got your suit sets ready because we're heading to Vegas.
03:29Yeah.
03:30Yeah.
03:31Packed and ready.
03:31We packed it right in.
03:33I'm ready to go.
03:33I packed accordingly.
03:35Bam, bam, bam.
03:36I'm good.
03:37I'm ready to sit and go.
03:38Yeah.
03:38I'm ready.
03:40Short sets available.
03:42Short sets.
03:42How many people you got in tow to Vegas?
03:45Who's all coming to Vegas?
03:47No, just me and Van.
03:48Everybody else get dropped off.
03:50Oh, okay.
03:51I know.
03:51You know what I'm saying?
03:52You always got the kids in tow.
03:53I know if this is one of those trips.
03:55One of these years, I'll bring Lil' Rich and Phoenix out to Vegas.
03:58I just.
03:59Nah, the kids don't get this one.
04:01They just got an opportunity.
04:02They just got the chance to come on this trip.
04:05You know what I'm saying?
04:06Ain't booking too many more motherfucking flight, flight, uh, flights.
04:10My miles are ready.
04:11You got too many kids.
04:12You got too many kids to be booking seven flights.
04:15And my, and my, and my flight miles are low.
04:19My miles, my miles are kind of as low.
04:22So, there ain't no more points on that.
04:23No more free flight.
04:25It's low.
04:25I will say summer league is great.
04:27Because our boys, our coaches and whatnot, uh, dude, Hendricks went and Brosley just had
04:33him with him.
04:34And he went to their little practice.
04:36He went to the, before the game, he sat on the bench.
04:38If you go the last three days, it makes it more fun.
04:41The first couple of days are a little more stressed.
04:44Yeah.
04:44The last three days, they're like, ah, fuck it.
04:47Whatever.
04:47Come sit here.
04:48You got the gear.
04:49Sat down.
04:50Got pictures of him on the bench.
04:51It was great.
04:52Well, let's dive in because we'll start there.
04:55There's a lot of other NBA stuff, including free agency and all of that jazz to get into.
04:59But we'll start with summer league, uh, because it is upon us.
05:02And Vegas summer league is starting in less than just over 24 hours, actually, which it
05:06begins with Cooper flag and, uh, Bronny James.
05:09Their summer league tickets are anywhere between 80 to a thousand dollars.
05:13The highest in summer league history.
05:16Case you didn't know courtside seats are over $2,500.
05:21What?
05:22I'm just kidding.
05:23I'm the one that said that.
05:24Ha!
05:25Hey!
05:26You can hate him all you want.
05:27My man moves needles.
05:29Who's your man?
05:31Huh?
05:32Who's your man?
05:33Who's my man?
05:34Internet?
05:35Twitter?
05:37Like, people don't get it.
05:40People don't get it.
05:40No, she's asking, is Bronny or Cooper flag your man?
05:45How did that one go over your head?
05:46I don't know.
05:47I don't know.
05:47I don't understand.
05:48I'm really tired.
05:49I've been up for a long time.
05:50Yeah, I can say it.
05:52I can say it.
05:54Yeah, yeah.
05:54My eyes look sleepy.
05:55People just don't get it.
05:57Okay, who's your man?
05:59I would say Bronny's probably my guy.
06:01Okay, okay.
06:01That's what I'm saying.
06:02Still answer the question.
06:03Okay, Bronny's my guy, right?
06:05Okay.
06:05Because, one, people took his heart issue for granted, right?
06:13And people don't understand that college basketball is different than every other basketball in the world, right?
06:19Even overseas, they are somewhat of a reflection of the NBA, right?
06:26But there's four quarters, there's halves, you know, all this, where college is smaller, it's completely coached differently, it's just its own game.
06:36So, somebody could be great in college, and then be absolutely trash in the NBA, and somebody could be trash in the NBA, and be great in college, you know, vice versa.
06:46So, for me, when people are like, well, he's averaging this and this, I'm like, so what?
06:52Like, so what?
06:54Richard's old bald head ass averaged, like, 12 points.
06:57I averaged 11 points a game my freshman year, my sophomore year, and my junior year.
07:02I would have averaged more in my sophomore year, but I broke my foot, but three straight years, my average was 11 points a game, right?
07:09Yeah, and you're a lottery pick.
07:10Yeah.
07:11And what did you average in the league?
07:13Oh, well, funny enough, I averaged 12 points a game over the course of my 17-year career.
07:19No, but I'm saying there was a stretch there where I was averaging 20 points a game, because, like, my rookie year, I averaged almost 10 points a game, but I averaged 11 in college.
07:28And it was just because the court was so much more wide open, you could use your speed, you could use your athleticism, your downhill ability.
07:36So, for me, how do you, like, I remember our old coach, Roz, called me and was like, Richard, how are you, you averaged 11 points a game for us.
07:45How are you averaging 10 points a game right now for the Nets?
07:49And it's just like.
07:49What's an NBA Finals?
07:51I was like, the court's so, as long as you run, no one gets in my way.
07:56I mean, yeah, it's a different game.
07:59It's a completely different game.
08:00And what I like about Summer League is I don't have time to watch all these college games.
08:05Like, I'll watch the good teams.
08:06But it's crazy to see the guys that were, like, okay in college, like the role players, when they get on a team, whether that's, like, Miami or Boston or San Antonio, they're put in situations to look amazing.
08:22Amazing, right?
08:23And the players that are used to, here, go shoot it 20 times.
08:28Now it's a little different because you're playing overseas, Cats.
08:31Scoring ain't as easy as it was in college.
08:34No.
08:34And so now that's what I look at.
08:35But what I'm saying, back to Bronny, I love that he balled out in the G League and that his name himself is still that crazy to bring $2,000 for a Summer League game.
08:48It's not just him now.
08:50It's not just Bronny now.
08:53There's another component here.
08:54There's another Vunderkid that just showed up on the scene, right?
08:58Because if it would have been Bronny versus Wemby, I think it would have been the same, right?
09:02I think it would have been the same kind of energy, right?
09:05But this, yeah, this is –
09:06How much for Wemby by himself though?
09:08What I'm saying is when you go watch the WWE match –
09:11Why is the NBA doing it so early?
09:12Why are they doing it so early?
09:14Because, hey, you've got to get them in and out.
09:16No, no, this has got to be the Friday night game, man.
09:19This has got to be the Friday night game.
09:22I mean, you know, or you take the college approach and have it as the noon kickoff.
09:28But here's the thing.
09:29Here's the thing, right?
09:30It's the combination of everything.
09:32It's the combination of rights of everything.
09:35It's one, yes, it's Bronny, but it's also Bronny and the organization that he plays for, right?
09:41Like, that combination in itself moves the needle.
09:46And then you add this cold-ass white boy and Cooper Flagg from Maine who never disappoints.
09:54Like, we're talking – first, let me say this.
09:57Let me send flowers to Bronny because the way that he's been handling the pressure,
10:03I got to give him his flowers.
10:04Like, people showing up to Bronny games and it's like any all-time great or any –
10:10and I'm not calling them an all-time great, but I'm saying anyone that's like the face of something.
10:15Yeah, yeah, right.
10:16They're either showing up because they want him to succeed
10:19or they're showing up because they're hating and want to say, I told you so.
10:24Either way, he's putting butts in seats, right?
10:27And then you go to Cooper Flagg, Cooper Flagg, you have to applaud him.
10:33One, he reclassified up.
10:37He's young.
10:38He's supposed to be going into his freshman year.
10:42So he ran up the chimney looking for the smoke.
10:46That's number one.
10:47Number two, like, Cooper Flagg moves the needle.
10:51Just think.
10:52Cooper Flagg went down to EYBL in Augusta, Georgia, his senior year
10:59or before he – like, as his transition or reclass.
11:02And they put that shit on NBA TV.
11:05We have never seen an AAU tournament on NBA TV.
11:10He was going at the – again, he played well.
11:15I'm not saying he did.
11:16He played well against USA Basketball, and he was 16.
11:22No, I know, but Rich, what I'm saying is –
11:24Just upset.
11:25But what I'm saying, look how powerful he is for NBA TV to say,
11:31we're going to pick up an AAU game.
11:34And he don't disappoint.
11:36Like, I think he had, like, 35, 12 rebounds, seven blocks.
11:41And he's going to put on another show.
11:43Like, Cooper Flagg is one of the ones that he's going to put on another show
11:48in Vegas.
11:49Like, the one thing that everybody told me about Cooper Flagg, they was like,
11:53man, when you go watch his practices, that motherfucker competes at everything.
11:57And I was like, well, what you mean?
11:58He was like, oh, he's the first person on a down – like, when you're running
12:02sprints, he's the first down and back, like, and yelling and screaming,
12:06like, that competitive nature.
12:08And he understands the assignment.
12:11This is just like Tim Duncan's situation.
12:13Name me another number one pick that walked into a situation that was able to
12:18compete for a championship.
12:20Magic Johnson.
12:21So he understands the mission, huh?
12:23Magic Johnson.
12:24I wasn't really – but I'm saying, Tim and Tim Duncan, even though Tim Duncan was
12:30older, like, he's walking into more pressure.
12:33I'm excited to see what the hell he's going to do.
12:35I know he's going to put on –
12:36Now, he's going to try and put on a show.
12:38He's going to – like, what's the difference between him and Wimby, Wimby just went
12:42straight from his basketball league, got drafted, and then had to show up and was
12:46playing, like, NBA American basketball, right?
12:51He didn't even know the plays yet.
12:52He was just kind of out there trying to figure it all out.
12:55He had never played American basketball with the rules.
12:58It was crazy.
12:59Yeah, and so Wimby just went, Cooper ready.
13:01Cooper, this is his scene.
13:04This is his joint.
13:05And he's like, oh, get out the way.
13:07Here, come.
13:08I'm going to hit this lane.
13:10This is where I want it.
13:11And all of Dallas Summer League, they're setting things up to help him benefit, right?
13:18So when you're a top pick, they kind of build the offense around you in Summer League versus,
13:23like, if you're the 13th pick and you're a point guard, they're like, hey, here's the
13:26sets.
13:27But if you have a big man, like a – let's say, like an Aiden or Carl Anthony Towns or somebody
13:31that comes in, you're like, all right, we're running a – we're throwing it into the
13:35big fella.
13:35He's going to work.
13:36Big fella's got to touch it.
13:38So with Cooper flag, they're going to run a quote-unquote summer league offense.
13:42And everybody around him knows the assignment.
13:45Get the ball to Cooper because he's a playmaker.
13:48He's a cutter.
13:49He can do all the things.
13:51He has all the, like, intangibles.
13:52So he's going to put on a show.
13:55Do you guys think this will be the most –
13:57Yep.
13:58Oh, go ahead, Alan, my bad.
14:00You got it.
14:01No, I was just going to say I got a feeling it's going to end up turning into the battle
14:06of Cooper flag and Dalton connect more so than Cooper flag and Ronnie.
14:11Without a doubt.
14:13Dalton connect is a dog.
14:15Like, that's what it's going to end up turning into, and it's going to end up becoming a show.
14:19If he has – the only two things that could stop him, in my opinion, Cooper flag, from putting on a show,
14:27is foul trouble or an inefficient night, right?
14:31Just a random –
14:32You can't get in foul trouble.
14:33You're welcome.
14:34You're welcome.
14:35No, but I'm saying when I say it's like foul trouble, yeah, you can't get – like, you're right.
14:39But I'm saying it's like when I say foul trouble, I mean, like, if he's, like, not – he's not moving the puppies,
14:44he's getting – you know what I'm saying?
14:46Because they will take you out for – they're not just going to be like,
14:48he's got six fouls in the first half.
14:51It's like, no, no, no, no, no, no.
14:52You just can't foul out.
14:54Fuck it.
14:54Do you guys think this will be the most watched summer league game ever?
14:57And what does this mean for the league?
14:58No.
14:59No.
15:00And in the last 10 years, it might be.
15:02Oh, last 10 years.
15:03Yes.
15:04Yes.
15:04I wonder what Wimby's numbers were, Zion's numbers.
15:09We're like, let's not –
15:10Remember Zion?
15:11Zion was that dude, man.
15:13We ripped the ball for, like – people was waiting on Zion, bro.
15:17People were waiting.
15:18Let's not – I'm not saying that the number's not – I'm just – let's not –
15:21we've had some debuts.
15:23We had Wimby's.
15:24We had Zion's.
15:26We've had some debuts in the last 10 years.
15:29That's all I'm going to say.
15:30Oh, pop culture was –
15:31I don't want to be waiting for Zion so much.
15:32Wasn't there a damn earthquake?
15:33Britney Spears was chasing down Wimby.
15:37Britney Spears was chasing down Wimby in Vegas.
15:40Let's not forget what Wimby is and who, like, internationally who this dude is.
15:47Like, just before we start talking about Cooper flagging the tickets is – when Britney Spears
15:52is running you down and he's like, who are you?
15:55Who are you?
15:56We're going to keep our comments to ourselves there.
15:58No, I'm just saying, hey, Britney didn't go left or right at that time.
16:02That song came out when I was born, right?
16:05It's like, you don't know.
16:06Britney was a little helpless at that time.
16:09You know what I'm saying?
16:10We got more things to get to.
16:11But nonetheless, we are going to NBA Summer League and we'll be on Thomas and Mac, the concourse,
16:15from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday night.
16:17So if you're going out to check out Summer League, come step by, say hello.
16:20We're going to be recording an edition of Road Trip in.
16:23Please don't come by.
16:25God, Richard, you're so addicted.
16:26Don't be a Richard, people.
16:28Okay?
16:28That's your note today.
16:30Don't be a Richard.
16:32All right.
16:32Most expensive divorce in NBA history.
16:37Some of the latest news.
16:39The Suns are buying out Bradley Beal's contract.
16:41He's owed $161 million.
16:42What did he mean to me?
16:43I was like, what?
16:44I was like, hold on.
16:47Okay.
16:47$161 million over three years.
16:50He played 53 games in Phoenix.
16:53Probably headed to the Clippers.
16:56Put the money in the bag.
16:58Hang on.
16:59We'll start with this and you guys can expand.
17:02Where does this rank among the worst contracts in NBA history?
17:06Oh, I think every contract was a great contract as far as I'm concerned.
17:11I think every dollar is a great dollar.
17:13It just didn't work out.
17:15But listen.
17:16You know, get your money.
17:18Get your money.
17:19Because we got guys having to take less money, right, to play well.
17:22I feel like Perk has like a real legitimate.
17:24I know.
17:25Go ahead, Perk.
17:25Go ahead, Perk.
17:26Go ahead, Perk.
17:26Yeah, yeah.
17:28So I'm not down on Bradley Beal, right?
17:31He came.
17:31It's not like, to me, it's not like the Suns, when he got to Phoenix, they gave him this contract.
17:38Right?
17:39He earned that contract while he was with the Wizards, while he was averaging 30.
17:43And yes, it was on a bad team.
17:45But Bradley Beal was still one of those dudes.
17:48And then all of a sudden, you get to Phoenix, and it just don't work out, right?
17:52Whether it's him and KD and Devin Booker not being able to match and see eye to eye.
17:57They tried him at the point guard position.
18:00Bradley Beal is a two-guard that wants to get buckets, right?
18:04And he wasn't going to be in a role that was going to put him above Devin Booker.
18:10Or Kevin Durant.
18:11Or Kevin Durant, right.
18:13So I believe the buyout is right.
18:16I think that's the right move because he has a no-trade clause.
18:20And I think that whether he ends with the Clippers, end up with the Clippers, I think he should really consider going to Milwaukee, right?
18:29And if he does, then we're going to see the Bradley Beal that we've seen of old.
18:36Like, we all know, think about this for a second.
18:39We all know, like, it is so hard as a player when you're mentally not there.
18:43And I know people be like, oh, it's a fucking business.
18:45Do your job.
18:47Show up to work and compete.
18:48But if your headspace is not in the right space, you're not going to play at your max level.
18:54Like, we're seeing so many things.
18:56I hate to get off topic, but we're seeing so, and it's not off topic, but we're seeing so many things.
19:01Like, what's the guy Marcus Williams?
19:03That's his name?
19:04Mark Williams?
19:06Who keeps getting traded from Charlotte and they keep getting sent back?
19:10Mark Williams.
19:11Mark Williams, right?
19:11Like, what the hell is going on with Mark Williams?
19:14I bring up his name because now this is twice that Charlotte has tried to trade this man.
19:21and then you bring him back to the organization and you're supposed to, and he's supposed to be like, oh, yeah, they want me here.
19:28I'm all in.
19:29Like, how the fuck is he supposed to do with a team that they tried to trade you twice, bro?
19:35Oh, they'll try and trade you.
19:36I'll do it again.
19:37No, but to your point, though, when it comes to Bradley Beal, I joke, but I say it's like every player earned his dollar.
19:48He got that contract.
19:49We were like what the Wizards are doing, but also we were like, Bradley Beal, what are you doing?
19:53You are at the prime of your career, bro.
19:55Get out while you can.
19:56He decided to take the money.
19:58They decided to give him.
20:00He wanted that security.
20:01So he sacrificed being on a good team for that level of security and that contract.
20:07So now when you trade him and he's now older, he's had a lot of miles on that body and he's not performing at that level.
20:16Now it's like, well, wait, this contract baseball signs players to 10 year contracts, knowing they'll only be good.
20:23Those first seven.
20:24They know it.
20:26They signed every player to 10, 12 year contracts, knowing that we're paying for those first seven.
20:34And then those last couple, we're going to figure it out.
20:36But you still give them a 10 year contract.
20:39So I'm not like when it comes to bad contracts, like we forget, man, we saw things that happened after that big salary cap boost.
20:48When that salary cap went up and everybody was getting all those dollars.
20:51Like, let's not forget about that, that, that summer.
20:54So respectfully, I'm Bradley Bill.
20:58I'm glad he's getting his money.
20:59I'm glad he can go to some place that because he wasn't like you think of Kevin Love being a big three.
21:04You think about the big three with, um, no, with, with Braun.
21:10You think about, uh, you think about the big three in Boston.
21:13When you start looking at like collectively all the big threes, you can say golden state, but Draymond,
21:19they had an all-star big that helped facilitate and they had facilitators around all of those scores.
21:25Phoenix didn't even have a point guard.
21:28Phoenix didn't have a point guard their first year.
21:30So Bradley Bill was never put into a position of here's somebody that can helm the ball.
21:36Okay.
21:36Hey, Bradley, here's a couple of shots.
21:38Okay.
21:38KD, let me get you going.
21:39Okay.
21:40Devin, let me drop it off.
21:41That's what, that's what, that's what, uh, Draymond does.
21:45That's what, what, uh, Andre Iguodala used to do.
21:47That's what Livingston used to do.
21:49Those guys were scoring, getting buckets, but they were facilitating, moving the ball,
21:53making sure the offense went Phoenix didn't have a point guard their first year.
21:58And then the second year they bring in a point guard, but they got a brand new coach.
22:02And it's just like, the energy just seems off on the squad.
22:05There's no vibe.
22:06I say all that to say is that Bradley Bill was never put into a position to succeed.
22:11And then the criticism, then the BS comes around.
22:15Now your headspace is messed up.
22:16But at the end of the day, I'm also going to say Bradley Bill didn't really help himself.
22:22Right.
22:22He, he, he didn't really help himself.
22:24Like he, he, and not, not from his own thing, but if you only played 50 games a year, like that, that, that's tough on your team.
22:32But really, to add some facts real quick to what you're saying, Bradley Bill, right, like his career high in scoring was in 2020 and 2021,
22:46where he averaged 31 points.
22:48And when you talk about that facilitator, you know who his teammate was at that time, at that year, under Scott Brooks,
22:56who averaged a triple-double?
22:57It was Russ.
23:00Like, so when you talk about what he needs to get him going, with Russell Westbrook in 60 games, Bradley Bill in 2020 and 2021,
23:11he averaged 31 a career high.
23:13So, yes, he's a guy that needs to have a facilitator to get him buckets the way that he plays.
23:19So, don't compare, don't compare, don't compare his 30, 31, or his 31 points a game in the $200 million contract to the environment that he's in right now.
23:28Kevin Love, same way.
23:30The way that Kevin Love could do what he was doing in Minnesota, this wasn't the same environment.
23:34Same that Chris Bosh.
23:36What he was doing in Toronto, leading teams to the postseason, and then go down to Miami, he's got a sacrifice.
23:43He's got all of these shooters and all of these dudes.
23:45He's, every situation changes into something different depending on the environment that you're in.
23:52And, like, Bradley Bill is not put in a position to succeed.
23:55Who did well in Phoenix?
23:57And this is the whole point, right?
23:58We're all saying the same thing.
24:00I don't know anybody on that team where I go, A, like, I think I'm seeing the best out of that player.
24:07That when there's dysfunction, right, from the top to the bottom, none of the players are going to be successful.
24:14So, yes, it sucks that Bradley Bill was the short end of the stick, right?
24:21But that's what happens.
24:23Now, do I think that Bradley Bill is going to go to the Clippers and make the Clippers this all-time team?
24:29Not really.
24:30Do I think he'll be better than last year?
24:33Clippers are all Bucs.
24:34Huh?
24:37Clippers are all Bucs.
24:38Yeah, I mean, Clippers or Bucs.
24:41But, like, what is that?
24:42I mean, the Bucs, what are they?
24:44Oh, you have Bradley Bill.
24:46Okay, now you're fifth, sixth, seventh?
24:49I don't know about that.
24:51Shannon, we're not going to do that.
24:52We're not going to do that.
24:53You add Bradley Bill to the Milwaukee Bucs with what they have right now.
24:58So, they're a top six seed in the Eastern Conference.
25:02Yeah, yeah.
25:02They might be that.
25:03You know, Giannis makes them a top six seed.
25:05Here we go.
25:06Okay.
25:06So, who has the Raptors and the Bucs top six in the Eastern Conference?
25:09No, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
25:11If Giannis plays 70 games, the Bucs, I believe, are a top six seed.
25:16You have Knicks.
25:17If he plays 70 games, Giannis is that great of a player at his prime and peak.
25:23Now, they might be the sixth seed, but if Giannis plays 70 games and Giannis is healthy,
25:30he's that great of a player.
25:31Same with, I would say, Jokic.
25:33Jokic, you have Knicks.
25:35Knicks and Cavs, okay?
25:36We know those two teams are going to be top.
25:39Okay, you have Orlando, but one could argue that, you know,
25:44if they saw Giannis in Milwaukee in the seven-game series,
25:49that series will go seven.
25:50We don't know how that's going to turn out.
25:52What are we talking about now?
25:53What are we talking about?
25:54No, no, no, but what I'm saying, I know, okay, Orlando, that's three.
25:58Okay, the Atlanta Hawks, in no particular order, four, right?
26:04And then I'm looking at the Toronto Raptors.
26:06I don't know what Detroit is going to be this year.
26:09I think Detroit lost valuable pieces.
26:12I think Detroit took a guy like Dennis Schroeder for granted and what he brought in off the bench.
26:17Obviously, they're not probably bringing back Malik Beasley.
26:20That's another topic, but how significant he was.
26:23Innocent until proving guilty.
26:24I'm not talking about that, Richard.
26:27I'm just talking about what he meant to the squad.
26:29Yeah, he, yes.
26:31He balled out, bro.
26:33A hundred percent.
26:34I agree.
26:34No, no, no.
26:35There's no argument there.
26:36His value off the bench.
26:37The Lakers took Dennis Schroeder for granted and they haven't replaced him yet.
26:42Who?
26:42I agree.
26:43The Lakers, they took what he brought to the table.
26:46His tenacity, his 94 feet, being a pest, being a go-getter, being able to go get a bucket.
26:51They took him for granted and they're still trying to replace him since he got trapped.
26:55Now, I'm just going to say, let me just, I may or may not believe what I'm about to say, but Philadelphia.
27:07Oh, you're right.
27:10If Philadelphia is any little bit like that.
27:12Now, this is what I'm saying.
27:14It's a what-up.
27:15It's a big war.
27:15They are who we thought they are, right?
27:18This is what I would say.
27:20There's Joel Embiid, monster, right?
27:23Whatever they decide to do, they got a lot of talent on there.
27:26If those boys, same what I said with Giannis.
27:28If he plays 70 games, they're going to be a top 60.
27:33Giannis.
27:33I said Giannis.
27:34If Giannis plays 70 games, I believe he is such a great player that whoever you surround him with, they most likely will be a top 60.
27:42Same with Joel Embiid.
27:43And I think if Paul George, but when you look at it, can they play 70 games?
27:48And that's where it's kind of like, yeah, 100%.
27:51Philly could be the best team in the conference next year.
27:53If their guys are healthy and they're clicking and locked in, they could be the best team in the conference.
27:58They could also not make the postseason.
28:00That's too wide of a range for me to try and kind of predict or understand where they are.
28:06They could be the number one seed.
28:08They could be in the lottery again.
28:11There's not a lot of teams.
28:12Deep diving into a team that didn't make the playoffs last year.
28:15And I freaking love it.
28:16Let's transition, though, because Perk made the comment, how do you go seven months being off without not being prepared for training camp come October?
28:26One guy who mentioned to the media here in L.A. yesterday was introduced as a Los Angeles Laker, DeAndre Ayton, said that he was excited to go through free agency for the first time.
28:37Our guy, Chris McGee, had a one-on-one with him and asked him, when it comes to choosing the right fit or the team that you're going to next, what do you prioritize?
28:48Is it playing time?
28:50Is it fit?
28:51Is it winning, et cetera?
28:52And he said winning.
28:53He said he's excited to get back to the player that he is.
28:57Perk went in and had a great take on him on his solo episode, Perk Unplugged, here on Road Trippin'.
29:03So I'll start with you, Rich, and Channing on just your thoughts of DeAndre Ayton and the Lakers getting him as their starting center.
29:13We always joke about, you know, J.R. Smith being kind of the throw-in in that Amon Shumpert-Nick trade, too.
29:23Like, they're like, hey, you got to take J.R., right?
29:25And J.R., he made some mistakes.
29:27We know we love J.R. for, like, all of his personalities and who he is.
29:33Like, J.R. is one of the most ultimate individuals you will ever meet.
29:36But he was younger and he made some mistakes.
29:39And then he got around Braun and there was a tangible.
29:44He became one of the most important players on that entire roster to the championship, right?
29:51There's multiple sides of J.R.
29:53And when I look at DeAndre Ayton, all of the talent, everything is there.
29:58You don't have to want to be the face of a franchise and be mad that you're not.
30:03You don't have to be mad that you are the face of a franchise, but you're a franchise.
30:07Right now, you get to go play basketball.
30:09And you get to go play with guys.
30:12And it's just your only job is to be consistent every day in your approach.
30:17They're not asking you to score 30.
30:19They're not asking you to be an all-star.
30:20They're asking you to be consistent every single day with your approach.
30:25If he takes this opportunity, right?
30:28Because you got to listen to your scouting report for, oh, I can't go left.
30:32I got to work on, I only go right.
30:34I got to work on my left hand.
30:35If there's an energy that people are saying about me, you have to be self-aware enough
30:40to be like, okay, I've got to adjust.
30:43People are questioning my work ethic.
30:44People are questioning this, my love for the game, my passion.
30:48And you get to play with guys that will just let you be you, tell you what they want from you, and just do it every day.
30:56He could have an outstanding season.
30:58He could have an outstanding season, and it could be one of the steals of the free agency.
31:04Factual.
31:05Now, there's another component to it where he doesn't take the opportunity and unrecognize and seize it.
31:13And then, you know, this is a pivotal moment for his career, in my opinion.
31:17One of the most pivotal moments that he's ever been, and might ever have in his career.
31:24It's, he is a hit or miss.
31:28And the reason why he is frustrating is because he oozes talent, right?
31:33And in the NBA, there's talent and expectations go like this, and then this is who you are.
31:39There are days where he, his talent goes like this, and then what you expect from him is way down here because he may not even try that game.
31:48Or he may not even show up to a game, right?
31:50Whatever that is.
31:52You've, it is rare to get drafted to a team like Phoenix, have an opportunity to play in the NBA championship with a guy like Chris Paul,
32:02who's a, who's an ultimate leader, whether you like him or don't, then a guy named, you know, Devin Booker, who's an ultimate competitor, right?
32:10Obviously won a gold medal, does everything that's needed to win.
32:13And these guys don't vouch for you.
32:16And the city of Phoenix wants you gone because you can't compete.
32:20You then.
32:21Hey, Phoenix knows basketball.
32:23The Phoenix Suns fans know basketball.
32:25They know basketball, right?
32:27But I think up until like five years ago, Phoenix was the fifth most winningest team in the NBA.
32:32So we know, we know basketball.
32:34Then you come to Portland where a team goes, hey, we're young and building, right?
32:39We're young and building, and we want you to be the centerpiece of this.
32:44And then within, what is it, three years, they can't get you out of here fast enough.
32:49They buy you out.
32:50They give you.
32:51They buy you out.
32:53So that's strike two.
32:54So now, because you're in L.A. where people, and I played a quick little hop and a jump back in L.A., players fall in love with being famous more than winning in L.A., okay?
33:08So if you don't have that motor, that sickness to be great in a place like L.A., right, you are going to start, well, it wasn't my fault or it wasn't this.
33:20You stopped getting on that grind.
33:22And then you're playing with Luka, and then you're playing with Braun.
33:26So now you're even more famous for doing nothing.
33:30You can do nothing and be famous.
33:31So if he's not ready to commit to the unfamous stuff, it's going to get ugly.
33:38Let's not, we could get into details, and I'm going to be quick.
33:41The Luka Doncic, DeAndre Ayton screen and roll, that's barbecue chicken.
33:46That's one of the worst ones in the NBA.
33:48So unless they want to address that.
33:49You mean like defensively?
33:51Defensively.
33:52Gross.
33:52Oh, and offensively, if he's not committed to being a every single time run to the rim guy, it's going to look even worse.
34:02That little swap.
34:02What are you saying about the pick and roll?
34:04He's saying defensively, if you were to put those two in a pick and roll, yeah.
34:09Oh, he's not on defense.
34:11Yeah, on defense.
34:12Now, offensively, that pick and roll could cause him problems.
34:15Could be.
34:16See, and that's the thing.
34:17You go, ooh, that could be nasty, or ooh, that could be nasty.
34:22It's this wide.
34:24So I'm not saying he can't do it.
34:26I'm saying you keep showing me you're inconsistent, and now that you just get to go somewhere else, I'm supposed to just believe what you say?
34:36Okay, so show me, and then I'll give you all the credit in the world, because I know that it's there.
34:41You've averaged a double-double, and I'm not going to say you're not trying.
34:44You average a double-double, and I don't know if every game you're fully committed.
34:48Like, you just are so fucking talented, the ball comes to you, and you're just like, oh, there we go, 17 and 15.
34:54Okay.
34:56Like, I wish.
34:57You know?
34:57It's crazy.
34:58So if he doesn't, they're going to be nasty.
35:01If he doesn't, it's going to be real nasty for him quickly.
35:05Never underestimate.
35:07I mean, I never took for granted how talented he is.
35:10We know that he can walk out.
35:11He can fill up the box score.
35:13Here's the thing.
35:15You can't trick a former player that was your coach.
35:19Chauncey Billups was your coach in Portland, so it's no fool's gold with him.
35:25He, like, coaches don't really look at box scores to determine whether or not you had an impact on the game.
35:33Chauncey Billups played and won a championship with fucking Ben Wallace.
35:37Ben Wallace.
35:38Yeah, Ben Wallace.
35:39A guy that did all the little things.
35:42Yes, a guy that did all the little things.
35:44Can you front?
35:46Can you meet early?
35:47Are you going to battle on the low block so a guy can't get an easy catch, and when he does, are you going to take the hit, take the hit?
35:53Are you not afraid of embarrassment?
35:56When I say not afraid of embarrassment, are you going to go contest shots?
36:00And although you may get put on the highlight rim, a coach don't give a damn about that shit.
36:05They want to know that every single time DeAndre Ayton is going to meet you at the run.
36:11I think the Lakers, honestly, let me say this.
36:13People are saying or waiting to see because, I guess, you know, the story or whatever the comments Rich Paul put out there about, you know, is it a championship caliber roster, right?
36:26I actually think the Lakers have some great pieces there.
36:30I really do.
36:31I think they have great pieces there.
36:33I think Dawson Connect is a fucking piece that could come in off the bench consistently, right?
36:38I think Jared Vanderbilt, when healthy, is one of the high-motor guys in the NBA.
36:45I think they have a lot of guys that when J.J. Redick is walking into training camp, he's walking into training camp with guys that are ready to compete inside the locker room.
36:56Competition inside the locker room is healthy as hell.
36:59So, what happens, what didn't happen is Indiana, Coach Rick Carlisle, and Coach Dagnall then set a bar, not only for player development, but maxing out your guys.
37:13J.J. Redick did a hell of a job his first year as a head coach, especially walking into that job with the Los Angeles Lakers.
37:22That is, you talk about pressure.
37:24He handled that well, 50-plus wins.
37:26They finished number three in the Western Conference.
37:29No one could knock that.
37:31How do you get to the championship level?
37:33Like, can he challenge him?
37:35Right?
37:35Can Luka, we're hearing Luka being ripped up.
37:38I want to see what Luka looks like.
37:41Right?
37:41Can Luka, is Luka sitting back and is he being jealous right now of SGA?
37:46I hope he is.
37:48I hope he is.
37:49I hope all these young guys have some type of envy towards SGA and what he just did this past season, because the man just went platinum.
38:00Forget platinum.
38:01He really went diamond.
38:03If you want to talk about, like, stacking accolades and the shit that he done.
38:07And so, if I'm a young guy, I'm jealous and I'm empty.
38:11I'm like, I could go out here and get this work out, too.
38:14I could give you this work.
38:15I can give you this effort.
38:16I could give you this leadership.
38:18And I could deliver a championship.
38:20I just don't.
38:21I think everybody's wondering, like, if the Lakers are going to go for a big piece.
38:26Like, no, they have pieces.
38:28They have pieces.
38:29They have pieces.
38:30They got a lot.
38:32They got a lot.
38:33They got a lot of pieces.
38:34Yeah.
38:34It's because those guys are going to max out.
38:39I'm rooting for the Andre A.
38:41And this is one thing we both know, is that he is so lucky to have such an understanding and calm coach like J.J. Redick, who, when it comes to understanding of lack of effort, J.J. is very chill about those things.
38:59He's very calm.
39:00He's very relaxed.
39:01When he sees a lack of effort, J.J. is very just like, hey, son, I'd really like you to work a little bit harder.
39:07We really take your time.
39:09Be patient.
39:10But J.J. is one of the most patient and relaxed people that I've ever worked with.
39:15So I think that's great for DeAndre Aiden.
39:17That is a sarcasm.
39:18That's next year.
39:21That's next month.
39:22I was like, hey, who the fuck?
39:23I said, who?
39:24J.J. who?
39:25J.J. Hickson?
39:27J.J.
39:28Barea?
39:28Well, he'd be raging like a motherfucker.
39:31I know what I'm saying.
39:32J.J.
39:32going to lose his shit.
39:34He rages at alignment.
39:35J.J.
39:35J.J.
39:36Oh, my God.
39:36Could you imagine the first time, J.J.?
39:38Seriously.
39:39The amount of timeouts that J.J. will call, like, it gives me anxiety because it takes
39:45me to, like, playing for Pop and, like, the minute you fucked up, he, like, loses shit.
39:50And J.J., J.J. will call so many timeouts if you aren't doing what the game plan.
39:56Oh, my God.
39:57Hang on, though.
39:58I did it last year in Summer League when J.J. joined us.
40:01Yeah, I'm saying we keep talking about Braun and it's like he got to play for J.J.
40:05Yeah, seriously.
40:06Remember when you were sitting there, to your point, Shane, about the wine menu, when the
40:09wine wasn't correct?
40:11Oh.
40:12Well, he ordered.
40:13God love him.
40:13So, he ordered.
40:15So, there's two producers.
40:16Usually, they have an off-brand that's just as good, different region.
40:20So, J.J. ordered the off-brand, which is usually, like, $150 to $200 cheaper.
40:25They tried to okey-doke J.J. and bring the expensive.
40:29And he looked at it and goes, hey, what?
40:32No, absolutely not.
40:33Come here.
40:33And, like, it ran down the whole thing of why this isn't right.
40:38Don't try to be taking money.
