00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World. It's another lovely day here in the region of Greater Manchester and across the city and wider area people will be preparing themselves for days of fun in the sun and evenings and relaxing on their balconies.
00:12Everyone in the city is so unique but one thing that they'll all have in common is that at least once a day they'll be able to spot some sort of construction work going on.
00:19Whether it's a new high-rise apartment or a new set of luxury offices the city is changing a lot and that's the focus of today's video.
00:25This comes after Mike Ingle, the chair of Allied London, which is a property developer based out of Spinningfield, predicted that the city's population would rise up to a quarter of a million by 2035.
00:36That's a significant rise on the current population of the city which is just under 100,000 but while predictions like this can come a dime a dozen,
00:44Mr Ingle actually claims he's on record back in 1990 stating that Manchester would have a population of 100,000 by this year and honestly he's not far off.
00:52So why has there been such significant growth and why is more expected?
00:56Manchester's changing a lot. There was obviously a lot of progress from 1990 up to now but it does feel as though the accelerator has been hit in the last few years,
01:02particularly since the concept of a city region mayor was implemented in an attempt to start the process of devolving power in the country away from London and towards more local sources of power.
01:12This concept of devolution has allowed Manchester to direct funds towards local public transport, cleaning up some of the streets and allowing for closer relationships with the businesses who operate in the city.
01:21It's easier for people to travel into the city and there are more jobs popping up too.
01:25You're already seeing some of the London effect as house prices on the outskirts of the city are booming.
01:30The city is a better, more comfortable place to live with more employment opportunities and a seemingly bright future.
01:35So another jumping population over the next few years wouldn't be unexpected.
01:39We're looking forward to covering it here at Manchester World.
