00:00 Manchester is a major city in the north-west of England and a place over half a million people call home.
00:07 The city is notable for its many museums, media links, architecture, music, famous sports clubs and its universities.
00:15 The ten surrounding boroughs make up the county of Greater Manchester, with a population of almost three million.
00:22 We asked local Mancunians what they love about living in the area and what improvements they would make to the city region.
00:29 I've never known it to be any different, you know. It's always been the same, so I don't know what more we can continue and keep doing,
00:36 apart from the promises that already get given. And these improvements have been made, but there's always going to be room for improvement,
00:41 so you're never going to please everybody. So, yeah, there's some beautiful buildings around here.
00:46 Would it be nice if they could be polished up and the units that maybe are not taken over get looked after?
00:51 Yeah, absolutely, but I think there's other things that you should be doing within your community, more about engagement than anything like that first.
00:58 I always think they could get more green spaces. I'm thinking about the town hall regeneration that they're doing.
01:04 It looks really nice, but if they could incorporate a lot more green space there, it would be a lot better.
01:09 Piccadilly Gardens, if they could keep that cleaner, that would be a bit better, yeah, definitely.
01:13 I don't know what it was like beforehand, but I generally tend to stay away from there.
01:20 I'll probably go over to Freight Island instead if I need to find any green space.
01:25 I was working in Manchester on the day of the bomb, and that was kind of the resurgence of Manchester, the renaissance.
01:32 It's carried on. Beautiful city, beautiful people, none better in the world.
01:38 I think we've got a lot going for us now, but I used to love it more a long time ago.
01:43 But, yeah, I mean, we have to move with the times, but, yeah, I like it. I mean, I'm happy to be a Monkeynian.
01:51 I think on Market Street, litter, it seems quite dirty.
01:57 I mean, this part of town is much tidier, but Market Street looks a mess sometimes, and we're quite ashamed of it as a city.
02:05 Everything that's going on, you would think that individuals would be able to take responsibility for that,
02:10 but perhaps put more litter bins around and perhaps empty them,
02:16 because sometimes you can see people have attempted to put their stuff in, but they've been full, so they've just, like, dumped it, really.
02:26 I think we need more quality shops, to be honest.
02:30 A John Lewis would be great if it could move into Debenhams or something, or even into Kendal's if they should.
02:38 I think the Piccadilly Gardens area needs to be cleaned up, and more quality shops,
02:44 because they're closing a lot of the shops, and lots of people don't like to do online. Love it.
02:49 Love Manchester, love coming into the city.
02:53 I live, when I say Rochdale, I live in a little village called Wardle, which is in the hills,
02:58 and it's nice to come and have a different perspective.
